LastFM Alert:
In a heartbeat of passed moments, The Big 4 (Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, Florence + The Machine and The Killers) welcome a new act among their elite clique that surpassed the 1.000 plays barrier. For months and months Madonna and Coldplay were neck on neck to break into the big numbers, but unfortunately failed. So who is the new legendary entry that completes the Big 5? It is a band, an act from the United States, that amassed more than 949 plays in 7 weeks and therefore becomes the fastest act to ever reach the quadruple digits. And it is the Kings of Leon. The winning song that made it happen for the Kings of Leon was "Sex on Fire" - their 1.000th play, registered a few minutes ago. The big return of Kings of Leon was fueled by their 2013 return and comeback single Supersoaker which amassed 26 plays since release - which can only be interpreted as a warm-up because follow-up single Wait for Me surpassed all expectations, shattered records and became my 9th most played track ever according to LastFm. The song amassed 153 plays alone. The new album Mechanical Bull - only in its second charting week, has already smashed the 270 plays barrier altogether.
The complete BIG 5 will forever be:
01 - 2.753 - Mariah Carey*
02 - 1.737 - Robbie Williams
03 - 1.156 - Florence and the Machine
04 - 1.088 - The Killers
05 - 1.002 - Kings of Leon
* Mariah Carey remains the only artist in the group to not have released a new album during the LastFm era (2011-)
Kings of Leon's Biggest Hits:
01 - 153 - Wait For Me
02 - 90 - Knocked Up
03 - 79 - The End
04 - 77 - Fans
05 - 58 - Tonight (#1 midweek)
06 - 52 - Milk
07 - 32 - Coming Back Again
08 - 26 - Supersoaker
09 - 26 - Comeback Story
10 - 25 - Don't Matter

MPSA #40 of 2013
Walking on shattered Hopes
Katy Perry makes the impossible possible. Her newest promotional single Walking on Air amassed massive airplay and overtakes the Killers and Kings of Leon this week. Walking on Air is Perry's 2nd chart topper and the first one since E.T. peaked at #1 for three weeks. Comeback Kid Justin Timberlake debuts at #2 with the second version of his mega hyped 20/20 Experience. Mechanical Bull still is in a league of its own. Drake rises to #3 and places 2 singles off his new album in the top 20.

Wow. Impressive debut for Katy. Perhaps I should give that track another try. Is it just a promotional single? JT had bad timing now twice. The first album came out when Imagine Dragons were the biggest act of the moment, while this week (and for the past month) Kings of Leon smashed harder than any act ever before.
JT became the first act this week that has amassed over 200 charting points for the year end chart. (almost 50 points more so far than what Whitney achieved last year and therefore topped the year end chart).
Look ahead:
Next week is a busy week: KIngs of Leon's Mechanical Bull, Justin's 20/20 part 2 and Drake's Nothing was The Same are in a close race for the #1 position. Can Katy defend her #1 position? Lorde's Royals leads Midweek so far. Drake/JT and Kings of Leon aren't far behind either, and of course Katy and Brandon Flowers' background band!My ChartComment
