Paolo's Iron Sky makes headlines this week and becomes one of those very rare enduring #1's with at least 3 weeks at the top or more. Paolo is the biggest artist of the moment. Today, his new album Caustic Love was released. Over the past weeks and with the lasting success of all of its three leaked singles so far, the album became one of the most anticipated releases of 2014. Paolo goes nuclear

Never before has one artist dominated my chart as Paolo Nutini did the past 7 days. He becomes the first act in the 4 years chart history of my singles chart to place all titles from a studio in the top 20, including Interludes. He joins Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, John Mayer, The Killers, Mariah Carey and Kings of Leon on the list of acts who charted 3 or more albums in the top 10 of the albums chart in a single week. Paolo's 7 day playcount rose to 385 on LastFm, exclusing an additional 93 plays from other medias, hence giving him the highest ever total of one-week-spins in the 10 years timeframe of the albums chart. Due to his unparalelled success and impact, it was hard for other new entries to actually make any kind of impact. That is why Lana's debut of #12 might seem a little bit disappointing, given that Born To Die (single) and Summertime Sadness were huge #1 singles, with additional top 10 debuts from both her albums, BTD and BTD: Paradise. The biggest non Nutini related entry, however, goes to Germany, as Max Herre and Philipp Poisel enter at #11 with a song, I consider one of the finest Rap/Pop/balladry fusions I've ever heard.

LastFM Alert:

With 310 plays in just 7 days for Caustic Love, and over 380 plays including all of his catalogue, Paolo Nutini becomes just the 3rd male and 10th overall act to cross the 1,000 LastFm Scrobbles mark. Assuming that the second week will see a moderate decline, he may advance as far as #4 on the alltime most played acts list of the LastFm era next week. Apart from Nutini, Lana Del Rey made headlines with her new single which finally pushed her upward of 400 plays. The Lumineers and German Rapper Marteria join the Club 100 of artists with at least 100 scrobbles or more as well. Week #16 was pretty outstanding, pushing the entire month to over 1,000 scrobbles already.

For the first time in the 10 year history of my albums charts and in the 4 year history of the singles chart top 20 does one active solo artist hold the top 3 positions simultaneously on both charts. Paolo Nutini continues to rewrite history. For the second week in a row, he smashed the 300 spins barrier. His catalogue was played 333 times in the past 7 days. Caustic Love decreased by 30% in the second week to 217 spins.
