Inductee Miss Aretha Louise Franklin


The era we are living in today cannot be understood without the musical catalogue of the greatest female vocalist of all times, Miss Aretha Franklin. From the moment she demanded R. E. S. P. E. C. T. she opened the gates for every woman of colour who dared to break free of a still racially divided reality. Aretha Franklin gave the world timeless music, but above all, she became a role model - a trailblazer for everyone who was willing to not just accept the reality they were living in, but for those who had the courage to create opportunities for themselves.

The world and its audience stood up in awe whenever she stepped up to the microphone and gave a performance. Aretha didn't just sing, she lived the songs she was performing. She captivated us. She opened our minds and souls and above all, made us dream of what is and what could be.

Aretha's career spanned 63 years and so it is only natural that her peak was decades before most charts were even created. The first and most successful Aretha song on the MPSA chart was Chain of Fools in 2004 - a song she had released 39 years prior. Everyone has their favourite Aretha moment even if it occured before our parents were born. There is a story everyone can tell. And that is the stuff only true legends are made of.

And with that being said, Aretha Franklin is inducted in the 2018 MPSA Music Hall Of Fame becoming the first artist with two individual song entries.
