  • Year End Chart: Top Artists of 2012: Top 80 of 89 artists that reached my top albums chart

    #28.(new) Emeli Sandé

Emeli Sandé is one of the best newcomers of 2012. Her music is so deep and heartfelt that it made me an instant fan of hers. Maybe, Clown, Heaven; all of those songs became huge hits in 2012.

    #27.(15) Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson is the everlasting King of Pop. The late icon is still amassing many charting points 3 years after his death. The Bad 25 edition spawned 2 new top 20 hits, while Smooth Criminal actually peaked at #1 in 2012.

    #26.(60) Linkin Park

Linkin Park released another highly anticipated album in 2012 which didn't perform as well as A Thousand Suns. However, they collected 36 charting points, placing them at #26.

    #25.(24) Matt Cardle

Matt Cardle is one big surprise of 2012. Lately became a monstrous hitsingle and his album went Gold. He is one of my alltime favourite casting show stars.

    #24.(re) The Ting Tings

It took them more than 5 years to finally re-appear on my chart. The Ting Tings are my 21st most played band of all times.

    #23.(new) Roman Lob

Roman Lob doesn't only look like a model, his music is equally cute and outstanding. I was so surprised by his debut album, which became a huge hit and spawned several top 10 hits. I just hope, he can release a second album as good.

    #22.(re) Silbermond

Himmel Auf finally made Silbermond my 10th alltime most played band. The German pop/rockers released one of the best albums of German language of all times.

    #21.(38) Ed Sheeran

Ed's success is divided between 2011 and 2012. The majority of the Plus era's charting points came from 2012 though. Ed Sheeran collected 48 charting points.

    #20.(22) Mumford and Sons

I didn't just anticipate Babel, I lived for its arrival. Gladly, the album didn't disappoint but hard too strong competition of make it to the top. Babel went Gold in 2012.

    #19.(2) Will Young

What a drop from last year's runner-up Will Young, whose album Echoes is one of the top 5 most played and most successful albums of the new decade. The Echoes era kept him alive in 2012 and stopped him from free-falling. It's his second consecutive stay in the year end top 20. In march 2012 Echoes received 6 times platinum status.

      • MPS/A #4 of 2012

Unbelievable, but you can't hold a great album down for long. For the first time in almost 7 years, one of the top 3 alltime best charting and most played albums, re-peaks at #1. This week marks the 10th non-consecutive stay at #1 for FS/LS placing it at 5th place of the alltime longest running #1 albums list, tied with Nelly Furtado's Loose. His new track, Suit and Tie, which re-ignited the Justin Timberlake craze in my world, moves up 1 position to #2.

1.(6) Justin Timberlake - My Love
        2.(3) Justin Timberlake ft. Jay-Z - Suit & Tie

dahling, wait until I reveal my alltime best charting albums since 2004... you will see how much I adore Willicious. He had the most played/successful album of 2011. being #19 in 2012 on the back of that album and his catalogue is an amazing achievement.

                      • Year End Chart: Top Artists of 2012: Top 80 of 89 artists that reached my top albums chart

                        #18.(33) Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj released one of the most successful albums of 2012. Va Va Voom, Starships, Gun Shot and many more songs from that era reached my top 5. Roman Reloaded is ranked 38th on the most successful albums of the decade list.

                        #17.(re) Usher

Usher is one of the most enduring artists on my chart. Despite the fact that his Confessions era never made any huge impact on my chart, the king of R&B rose to fame with his 2008 album Here I stan which became his first platinum album on my chart as well. Raymond vs. Raymond is my 23rd most successful album of the decade, while Looking for myself is ranked 35th on that list.

                        #16.(new) Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean brought R&B back. At first, I couldn't get into the album but then, pow: Pyramids became a huge hit and the album rose to new spheres, eventually peaking at #1. Channel Orange is the 31st best charting album of the decade so far.

                        #15.(new) Lana Del Rey

Lana is another new-comer who dominated my airwaves at the beginning of 2012. Born to Die peaked at #1 and stayed there for two consecutive weeks. The album received a platinum award shortly after. She managed another top 10 entry with the Paradise EP, which peaked at #6.

                        #14.(12) Mariah Carey

Once Miss Carey dominated my chart like no one else. Last year she missed the top 3 for the first time since I compile my chart (2004). 2012 has been a quiet year again, despite her tremendous success with her new song Triumphant, which peaked at #1. Her two christmas albums have been her biggest hits during 2012. In week 51 of 2012 Mariah became the first artist ever to amass more than 2,000 charting points, despite being only second on the run to the first 1,000.

                        #13.(30) Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado's career is odd. The Canadian once broke records with her 2006 smash album Loose, which to this day is ranked inside the top 10 most successful albums of all times on my chart. However, 6 years between Loose and 2012's were too much to continue where she once left. The Spirit Indestructible spawned several top 10 hits though. The album ended 2012 as my 22nd most successful album of the decade. In 2012 Nelly Furtado became just the 10th artist ever to amass more than 500 charting points.

                        #12.(75) Alicia Keys

What can I say about Alicia Keys? She is one of the biggest stars from day 1. She had the first #1 album on the very first edition of my albums chart (2004) as well as the first chart leader of the current decade (2010). The Element of Freedom is still ranked the most successful album of the decade. Her 2012 release Girl on Fire had just 6 weeks to amass chart positions and points. In 2012 the album never left the top 2 and peaked at #1 for 2 weeks. GOF is already the 48th most successful release of this decade.

                        #11.(43) Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen is the favourite artist of the Rolling Stone Magazine. The Boss is a prominent and essential artist on my chart as well. His 2012 release Wrecking Ball spawned a #1 song and stayed at the ultimate top for 2 weeks as well. Wrecking Ball became the 32nd most successful album of the decade.

Coldplay manage to stay in the top 10 and finish one of their best years on my chart. Mylo Xyloto continued to smash the first half of 2012 while their Live album became the best charting live set of the 4th quarter, topping Robbie's Live at the O2. Mylo Xyloto has advanced to 5th place on the best charting albums of the decade list. Coldplay made the year end chart every year since 2005. In 2004, they did not chart!

Alanis Morissette once was my queen. No one would believe it now. But Alanis Morissette was the artist with most charting point up until TEOM was released in spring 2005. Since being one of my earliest favourites, Alanis had some tough times as well. Last year she barely made it to the year end list and 2009 didn't look good as well. However, in 2012 Receive became one of the biggest hits of the year and the album Havoc and Bright Lights is currently ranked the 29th best charting album of decade.

yes, i started my own chart (an album chart) in february 2004. I published it first on UKMIX in October 2006 (in this very thread) and since february 2010 I also have a singles top 20 chart. Once the 2012 year end lists are done (singles, artists) I will present my consistently updated (weekly) alltime lists (albums and artists).

Olly Murs is such a huge surprise. His fluffy, sweet, cute pop tunes give me a warm feeling. Haha. He's so adorable and best buds with King Robbie these days! What more proof of his character and talent do I need. Oh yeah, the music is awesome as well! RPRT peaked at #1 in 2012 and received a Gold award.
