Year End Chart: Top Artists of 2012: Top 80 of 89 artists that reached my top albums chart

      2010: #10
      2011: #7
I hope the message comes across that I am the biggest Florence Welch mega fan on this forum. In less than 3 years, Miss Welch became my soulmate. Her music is the best by any new artist that emerged since she came along, in my opinion. Ceremonials was released in 2011 and helped her to rise on the year end chart, and it was obvious that this monstrous smash would guarantee her the first year end medal (one of many that will follow in the coming years). Florence ended 2012 with the Bronze medal. Among all acts (male, female and bands) Florence and the Machine is currently ranked 22nd on the combined artists alltime list and 10th among female acts. Ceremonials is currently certified five times platinum and is ranked 4th on the decade-to-date list while Lungs is ranked 25th.

      Charted albums during 2012:

Robbie Williams is undoubtedly my number one male artist. He became the first artist whose combined charting total for individual albums exceeded the 1.000 points barrier. He was the only male solo artist to have ever won this countdown and he has more albums in my albums alltime list than any other artist. 2012 marked another return for the unquestioned king of chart success. Take The Crown spawned the #1 smashes Reverse, Into the Silence and Soul Transmission. Several other songs from the era peaked in my top 10 as well. Take The Crown attained a double platinum award in december of 2012 and is currently ranked 20th on the decade to date list. His comeback brought several of his previous chart-toppers back in the top 10. Among them, the current #2 of my alltime list: Intensive Care. Since 2004 Robbie Williams amassed 1.663 charting points, more than any other male singer and overall second to Mariah Carey.

February 11th 2012 was the day when one of my alltime favourite artists and one of the biggest music icons of all times died. I met Whitney Houston when I was 7 years old. I sat in front of my cassette recorder - the cassette already in my hand - waiting for the radio dj to play I will always love you - which became one of my all time favourite songs. I did not have to wait long. I recorded the timeless classic and played it over and over until it became the first english song that I knew by heart.

Whitney Houston was my first love. I would just smile when she appeared on TV somewhere, I would just lipsync her latest hit and I would just try to feel a connection to her. That is what my first musical love was all about. It helped me building up myself, discovering me, discovering music, discovering the world. And all she had to do was sing. The epitome of vocal ability that is what she is to me. The best female singer that has ever graced the world. Her music influenced not only me but millions of people who suddenly dressed like her, and who began to imitate her singing. Of course no one could sing like her but her influence stays unmatched in music history. Many people might think: Oh he's a Mariah Carey fan - what does he know. No! I was a Whitney fan first. She opened my mind for female artists. She opened my mind for ballads, for R&B and Pop music andfor Dance remixes. It is true that Mariah took what Whitney build as a basis in my character and took it to another level, but Without Whitney I couldn't cherish Mariah the way I do.

By 1998 I finally bought my physical copy of The Bodyguard - the first Whitney album I ever owned - and by 2004 I completed her discography. As a kid of the 90's I spent all my pocket-money on CDs. I couldn't afford much. But completing her discography was a must, an urge I had to go after. One Wish was the first Whitney release I bought in the year of release. So, no one waited more anxiously for her 2009 comeback album than me. I Look To You became the first non-seasonal studio album by Whitney which was released during the time of my chart (2004-2013). It debuted straight at #1 and stayed there for three consecutive weeks (and 5 weeks overall), spawning several #1 hits, I Got You being the biggest among them.

In the wake of her untimely death, several of her albums and singles charted on my singles and albums chart. She instantly broke the record in the week of her death, when she occupied 17 out of 20 positions on my singles chart and placed 7 albums in my albums chart top 10 the week thereafter (another record). Whitney was soon placed at #1 on my year-to-date chart, a position she practically held from february until december which expanded the record - formerly held by Mariah Carey in 2005.

So what will stay? The music, her smile, her kindness, her influence, her genius and most importantly her love. Whenever I see her picture, whenever I listen to one of her classic songs, whenever she is in my thoughts, I will look up to the sky - I look to you - and I will say a prayer - secretly, almost shy and I will thank her for being a part of my life, for having shaped me, for being by my side for so long, for letting me experience love, sadness and happiness through her music. What better words can express my gratitude and eternal love for her than the title of my favourite and the first of her classic hits since I can remember:

Whitney, I will always love you! R.I.P.

We are here to speak your name
because of the way you made for us.
Because of the prayers you prayed for us.
We are the ones you conjured up, hoping we would have strength enough,
and discipline enough, and talent enough, and nerve enough
to step into the light when it turned in our direction, and just smile awhile

We are the ones you hoped would make you proud
because all of our hard work, makes all of yours part of something better, truer, deeper.
Something that lights the way ahead like a lamp unto our feet,
As steady as the unforgettable beat of our collective heart.

That Whitney write-up actually made me tear up.

I agree wholeheartedly that she was the greatest singer to have ever graced this planet. Her voice transcended genres, generations, broke down barriers, and ultimately became a global treasure. I think I took her for granted in her final years of life but February 11th, 2012 hit me like a brick. I still cannot believe she is gone. A part of me refuses to accept that the last of the two artists I grew up loving has now passed.

I know the music will never ever die. She'll forever live on through her timeless classics. Her talent will continue to amaze and inspire countless other artists. She's a legend amongst legends and I miss her dearly.

                        MPS/A #7 of 2013

                        The explosion of M83

Much like Rudimental, we might have found another smashing newcomer band in 2013 with M83. The French band amassed more spins this week than the rest of the top 10 combined. The only thread for the crown could be Josh Groban who not only is one of my chart's most enduring and successful artists. His new album All That Echoes is a nice return to form after the not-so-well received Illuminations era. Next week, the return of Mariah Carey could stir up the trinity of Groban, M83 and Jessie Ware.

I need to check out that JT song. His performance at the Grammys was a bit boring though. Great to see "I Look To You". There's this place my friends and I go for lunch and they play that song every time.

It looks like Mariah Carey has not lost her magic. The empress of my chart - the first artist ever to pass total charting points of 2.000 with her catalogue - is set to debut at #1 with her song Almost Home. The main version received 168 spins on LastFm since its tuesday release, debuting at #3 on my alltime most played songs list. Unfortunately, Mariah has two versions of the song on LastFm for a combined total of now 201 scrobbles. It's Mariah's second highest debut on LastFm ever. Last august, Triumphant debuted at #2 with a couple of spins more.
