NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE MUSIC & RANDOM ENGLISH-LANGUAGE INDUCTIONS PART 1 of 40
So since the countdowns of my two favourite artists of all time are done, time to turn my attention into my favourite songs of all time... So this is how it's gonna look like: There's gonna be 40 different segments (10 songs each) which are gonna focus on one or two different themes each time. It's gonna be either a specific artist focus (and here is where the divas come in) or world music focus or both on the same day (albeit on two separate segments). I am not sure if I am making much sense but it is a chance to look back at some of my favourite songs and acts of all time. And let's begin right away. I hope nobody minds I start with my own country and five Greek songs I simply adore followed up by 5 english-language female songs I also adore. All you have to do is say a YES or a NO depending on whether you like the song in question to be inducted in my personal Hall of Fame:
A.RANDOM GREEK SONGSSo we start with five random greek songs. Making the cut today is a late '70s/early '80s soft rock classic, a '90s greek-italian duet, a '90s greek-american duet, a '90s pop/jazz song and a classic '60s instrumental. Hear them and can't wait to know what you think
-Fatme: Eida Ta Matia Sou Klamena (I Saw Your Eyes Crying)
-Stefanos Korkolis & Fransesca Schiavo: Se Thelo/Ti Voglio (I Want You)
-Sofia Arvaniti & Bonnie Tyler: The Desert Is In Your Heart
-Nama: Odysseas (Odysseus)
-Manos Loizos: To Zeimbekiko Tis Evdokias (Instrumental)
B.RANDOM ENGLISH-LANGUAGE FEMALE SONGSAnd on the international stage we got five songs including a very classic 80s R&B hit by Rick James' protege girl group, an underrated 1990 soul classic, a '90s club banger and two album tracks featuring the fab voices of Caron Wheeler and Rozalla. I love all of them, what about you?
-Innocence: Let's Push It (UK #25)
-Soul II Soul feat. Caron Wheeler: Take Me Higher
-Todd Terry feat. Martha Wash & Jocelyn Brown: Something's Goin' On (UK #5)
-Rozalla: The Storybook Of Love
-Mary Jane Girls: All Night Long (UK #13)jio CHARTS NOW:09/04/2024: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...8#post11345288Comment

I like the Greek songs!
Stefano Korkolis and Francesca Schiavo: good song, she's been inactive for ages.. I remember her in Sanremo.
Sofia Arvaniti and Bonnie Tyler: didn't know about this song! Interesting duet.
Nama: I really like this song, it sounds so happy! I don't understand all the lyrics, she mentions Odysseus and Ithaca so I don't know if the lyrics are actually happy but the song sounds so!
Manos Loizos: like this instrumental, what movie was it taken from?Comment

I haven't seen the movie that instrumental is from but I believe it's called "Evdokia". It must be from the '70s
The Nama song has bittersweet lyrics, not really sad. She basically says that he abandoned her and now she's lonely and sad and can't stop thinking about him but she keeps on waiting for him until he makes his rounds, experience what he wants to experience and then come back to her (like Penelope of Odysseus)
Was Fransesca a famous singer? Stefanos was extremely famous in the '90s until he got accused for paedophilia and then his career ended. Now he composes songs for other artists but I don't think he sings anymore (or perhaps he does but he is not getting any airplay)jio CHARTS NOW:09/04/2024: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...8#post11345288Comment

NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE MUSIC & RANDOM ENGLISH-LANGUAGE INDUCTIONS PART 2 of 40

A.ARABIC TOP 10 CLASSICSAnd now I turn my attention to Arabic-language music. I am not extremely familiar with the music of that nation but those are definitely the 10 Arabic-language songs (which is why Arabic songs in French are not included) which I heard the most in my life. The Israeli song included is performed in both Arabic and Spanish which is why it's here. If anyone has any other suggestions, especially of raj music, please I'd love to hear them
-#1.Dalida: Salma Ya Salama (Egyptian)
-#2.Rasha: Salib Fuadi (Sudanese)
-#3:Rohff & Mohammed Lamine:Mon Bled (Abdel Kader) (Algerian)(click here for the Cheb Khaled original)
-#4.Cheb Khaled: Didi (Algerian)
-#5.Amr Diab:Tamally Maak (Egyptian)
-#6.Saber El Robaey:Sidi Mansour (Tunisian)
-#7.Faudel: Tellement N' Brick (Algerian)
-#8:Yuri Buenaventura & Faudel: Salsa Rai (Colombian/Algerian)
-#9.Amr Diab & Angela Dimitriou: Habibi Ya Habib Alby Yadoob (Egyptian/Greek)
-#10.Alabina & Ishtar: Yalla Beena Yalla (Israeli/Spanish)jio CHARTS NOW:09/04/2024: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...8#post11345288Comment

Great choice with Dalida, she's one of my favourite singers! I also love Helwa ya baladiComment

NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE MUSIC & RANDOM ENGLISH-LANGUAGE INDUCTIONS PART 3 of 40

A.'90s R&B CLASSICS TOP 10OK I had been kind of an R&B/Hip-Hop freak in the '90s (the best time to be that) so it's only natural that this genre would be the focus of my next Top 10, albeit an extremely difficult one as it could have easily been a Top 100. Well in the end I chose the 10 songs that I probably have listened the most and bended the rules somewhat so: Only one song per artist is allowed (En Vogue, Aaliyah and SWV would have easily had many more songs otherwise), Janet, TLC, Mary J. Blige and Brandy are all excluded as they will all probably get their own countdowns. Rap songs are also excluded (they'll definitely get a countdown too). So here it is (and as always you can hear the song by clicking on the song's name):
-#1.En Vogue: Hold On (USA #2---UK #5)
-#2.Jade: Don't Walk Away (US #4---UK #7)
-#3.Johnny Gill: The Floor (USA #56)
-#4:Ginuwineony (USA #6---UK #16)
-#5.Aaliyah:Are You That Somebody (USA #21---UK #11)
-#6.SWV: I'm So Into You (USA #6---UK #17)
-#7.Tony! Toni! Tone!:Feels Good (USA #9---UK #85)
-#8.Adina Howard: Freak Like Me (USA #2---UK #33)
-#9.R. Kelly & Public Announcement: She's Got That Vibe (USA #59---UK #3)
-#10.Zhane: Hey Mr. DJ (USA #6---UK #26)jio CHARTS NOW:09/04/2024: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...8#post11345288Comment

Great selections there. Were you a fan of the Soul of MTV or Pop FM back then?
Love all your arab selections too, especially Khaled (I believe they drop the "Cheb" after a certain age) and Saber El Robaey.
Odysseas was my 2nd choice for the Retro FSC, it's a classic.I haven't seen the movie that instrumental is from but I believe it's called "Evdokia". It must be from the '70sComment
