I'm not from the UK I live in the US. I couldn't find a decent place to talk to other fans about Madonna, I stumbled on this site and liked what I read, so I decided to post despite not actually being from the UK LOL. I know she has alot of fan forums and stuff but I didn't like the people there.

and the Nic actually LOL..thats short for my gf's name - Nicole I call her Nic

My name is Sabrina...I just shortened it to 'Sabzi' ..hence my username Sabzi Nic lol. I know its very lame but haha....what can I do? I'm a hopeless romantic

Secret - one of her best songs. Its surely in my top ten.

Dress you up - fun song. I listen to it alot.

Wow 'everybody' is so high! Amazing song ..it gets to you instantly and doesnt let go. Good choice I say.

"Secret": Beautifull song although I have to admit it was not love at first listen: I had up and down about it untill the "Drowned World Tour": after seeing it live I was hooked completely!! The backdrop video of the tour is gorgeous and meaningfully touching.

"Dress You Up": Solid track...but too high in the list for my taste!! I would've love you to put "The Virgin Tour" performance instead of that bland remix,LOOOLLLL!!!!

"Everybody": It is surprising for me to see that many hardcore fans are not very fond of this track: It is a very underrating song,IMO. Love its beat,its mood,her voice....everything! She should perform it way more on tour just like she usually do for "Holiday", IMO!!

So what is at #1? Well it's kind of predictable I guess but it is the song which turned me into a Madonna fan in the first place. I remember I must have been 10 or 11 and my parents used to sometimes employ a babysitter from the UK and she used to bring along videotapes of video-clips, totp shows etc. And it was there that I saw the video of Papa Don't Preach for the very first time... and I was hooked. The song, the style, the storyline, Madonna's looks... everything was just great.

I didn't know it back then of course, but Papa Don't Preach was of course a revelation for many people. Although Madonna had been extremely famous for three years already, this was the song that convinced the public that she was more than another passing trend, that she was here to stay. It also featured her strongest vocals up to that time (by far), her first extreme change of looks and her first forray into a controversial subject (teenage pregnancies). All in all a massive single and one of her most 80s sounding tracks, I chose the extended remix for my #1 and you can listen to it by just clicking on the pic above whereas a live version of the song is shown if you click on the pic below. And a small mention to the hits which didn't make it. First of all, as a rule, no covers were allowed in the countdown. As for the rest:
Material Girl: It's a classic and a good song, yet one that I almost never look forward to listen to

Crazy For You:Same as above but (far) better.

Open Your Heart:I do know that a number of Madonna fans are absolutely in love with this one, I find it pretty much the least interesting Madonna single up to that time.

Cherish:Her worst '80s single IMO

Oh! Father:It's a charming ballad on the style of "Live To Tell" and it has a gorgeous video, yet she has so many good ballads that this somehow gets lost (at least for me)

Deeper And Deeper:I remember back in 1992 I made serious efforts to convince myself that this is a great song. I guess it isn't (although she certainly made serious efforts to make it one by giving it a great video, great latin break and great Vogue-ish ending). It's quite pleasant though

Rain:Madonna's return back to romantic ballads for the first time since CFY. It's OK but kind of elevator music for me

Take A Bow:Same as above

Human Nature:This is a case of the video made the song. The song is pleasant enough but upon listening to "Bedtime Stories" album, I was certain that this was the most likely song to remain an album track.

One More Chance:Unlike most Madonna fans I love this one, just there are over 100 Madonna songs I love more

Gary Barlow's "Love Won't Wait":Madonna's demo is good, Gary's version is garbage

Ray Of Light:Never been a big fan of this one, I hope it leaves her setlists soon

The Power Of Goodbye:I like it quite a lot, yet it's "Ray Of Light"'s worst ballad IMO

Nothing Really Matters:I did love it in the beginning, yet by the time it was released it had become my least favourite "Ray Of Light" song and it's the only track in that album I actually skip

Music:Loved it like crazy, still love it but it's waaaaay overplayed

Don't Tell Me:Also love it, just I love other Madonna songs much more. Plus no matter what people say, IT IS A COVER.

Kelly Osborne's "Papa Don't Preach":I adore her version, I just thought not to waste two slots on the same song. Mind you, I hate every other cover of a Madonna song which has become a hit over the years.

Die Another Day:I do like it (not love it), yet it was extremely dissapointing as a comeback single and as a James Bond theme. Plus the beat is too close to the beat of "Music". Fantastic video though

Me Against The Music:Em, no

Sorry:I loved this one in the beginning, it was my absolute favourite "Confessions" song, yet I got tired of it way too fast and (unlike "Hung Up" which I never liked in its album version) Madonna never updated it on tour. It's the exact opposite of "Get Together" for me which I didn't like at first but has grown on me a lot over the years.

Give It 2 Me:pleasant enough to listen to and forget it the minute it's over

It was long ago since I didn't look at this video....I did it and I was like: this is Pop History! I remember how I was shocked at the time to see her with a completely different look (I mean: unlike nowadays, that was a big shock too) short blond hair and casual clothes: a punch in the face after "the Virgin" era: she was a model of style and a trendsetter since day one!!
The remix version you posted is awesome (just put it on my FB profile, lol)!!

2 words must be spent about this countdown too, which is for me the best one I've seen untill now under every aspect and form, love its picture and the choices of the video, I appreciate the effort you put in; not counting that finally we have a countdown without THE boring predictable end, and for predictable you know what I mean...(Frozen, LAP, LOL)!!!!

Totally agree with this!

We may agree or disagree on a number of songs but the bottom line is this is a very interesting way to present your chart (more entertaining than the other charts on this forum), and you've made a lot of original choices. I, for instance, didn't know of some of the demos/unreleased tracks so I was pleasantly surprised!!
