yeah, the mixtape turned up on their YT channel that i'm subscribed to - it was aired on internet radio a few months ago, It's rather odd and full of rap and not a lot of their old sound though it's kind of still there. It also only lasts about a minute or so on each remix or snippet. The new single is more like a Justin Bieber demo!

    • I meant to make a mention of The Flaming Lips - American Head not charting because it's shockingly bad for them. I forgot.

even the stuff with Kesha and co was better.

I quite enjoyed some of their whimsical singles. For instance, "Mother Please Don't Be Sad" reminded me of some 90s Crash Test Dummies songs or even Super Furry Animals' older albums. Almost child-like naivete.

          • Pretty average stuff for Dagny and especially Annie.
Great #1 though, I think it's the strongest song by Ellur so far.

I tried the Bright Light Bright Light album and let's just say, it wasn't my thing. However, I probably enjoyed the Napalm Death one more than I should have.

Good to have Royal Blood back. I still prefer Death From Above (1979), but this song is nonetheless pretty good.
Mr. Bungle is just a legendary outfit.

                        • TONY'S HITS CHART: 3rd OCTOBER 2020

                          1 3 Ellur - Alive (5 weeks; PEAK)
                          YOUTUBE - VIDEO

This will be on her EP out on the 9th along with IDKWWA and a new song Monochrome (but sadly not Reflection). For the purposes of this chart, all the songs will remain separate, i'll just treat Monochrome EP as a regular single with 2 old songs on it.

Great pop-dance tune (produced by her fellow band member Jamie XX). Bit strange how it's underperforming on iTunes, it's really very commercial.
                          8 5 Steps - What The Future Holds (4 weeks; peak #4)
9 NE Mallrat - Rockstar YOUTUBE - "BUNNY" VIDEO

Theme to BBC drama series Life (starring Garvey's wife Rachael Stirling). Like a better version of AWOLnation's Sail.

Big Tall Wall, Eggplant and Wally stand out among all the unreleased tracks (despite some suspect lyrics!).

Not saying i'm a fan yet but there's a welcome change of style on here into a more refined heavy rock sound and at least 3 tracks would be big hits on my chart if chosen as singles.

                          • 7 NE Romy - Lifetime - unjustly overlooked by the general public, it has some serious radio airplay potential
9 NE Mallrat - Rockstar - not a fan of the "bunny" approach, but the song is quite cosy
10 NE Meg Myers - Any Way You Wanna Love - the chorus shines through
42 NE Purity Ring - Better Off Alone - the original is nothing to me without the music video
                            ALBUMS
ShitKid should have done slightly better maybe. I need to take a bit of time and listen to Sylvan Esso album.

                              DEEZER

I missed the release of this but saw it chart at #63 in Germany. Robin Proper-Sheppard (The God Machine) returns with his collective. The lightest most accessible stuff he's done - even has synths on it!

11 RE Marina and The Diamonds - Froot (43 weeks; peak #1)

12 NE Pauline Murray - Elemental DEEZER

Made with members of her famed bands Penetration and The Invisible Girls and sounding most like the latter.
13 NE Jonsi - Shiver DEEZER
14 NE Roisin Murphy - Roisin Machine DEEZER

The full album is less impressive than the earlier "Side A".

25 NE Marty Wilde - Running Together DEEZER

His cover of Kim's Cambodia is better than their duet.

I was a big fan when they released "Demanufacture" and "Obsolete". Will check this one for sure.

Try the Sophia album. It does a more successful job of what the Pumpkins are attempting. Though it's not all synth - but my #5 song is exceptional. Best thing he's done since The God Machine.
Pauline Murray's Secrets is a bit Ladytron. Her album would have been higher if i hadn't decided to go through all of Marina's catalogue in one go.

And that Ellur song will climb - i was charting it on the basis of a session version and was just waiting for the video premiere to complete my chart. Had to get the chart done before 10 as the guy on Haven is closing his compilation early this week.

                                        • 24 NE Laurel - Best I Ever Had - since you didn't chart the previous single, I wasn't sure if this one is particularly impactful

I've not been impressed with Laurel recently but this one is a proper pop song. Future Islands - their best so far. Even though i've only charted one single.

No opinions on Mylene reworking Ulay, Oh or the Clipping tracks?

With Mylene it's just not the same for me, not like it used to be in the 1990s or 2000s.
Clipping instrumentals sound like Curve circa 1996 with the rap bits over it. Not bad.

I was hoping you'd know Ulay, Oh and be able to compare both tracks. Here's my post on it from mid '15 when the video was a viral hit - in this same thread. You were a lurker, then. Couldn't get anyone to comment on it then, either! (Bill said he would but never did)

The video and everything else by HIBTB has been removed online but i posted a user upload this week. And as i said, they are coming back with a new release - the same release they meant to release 4 or 5 years ago!

I don't really enjoy the original because of the lacklustre and sleepy vocal.
