Liked Electric Youth & The Rua, Holly Johnson not so much!
Try Holly's Europa title track - with Vangelis. If you like electro/synth...
Alas couldn't find it on youtube I'm indeed more of a FGTH-fan, although Americanos was great too!
It's on Deezer and Spotify - in my album chart links.
I'm one of the few people, who don't use neither, did have a Deezer-account, but decided to quit it.
YouTube, buying actual CD's and sometimes an illegal download, my listening agenda is full enough without those services

    • MY CHART OCTOBER 12th 2014

1 NEW Sky Ferreira - Heavy Metal Heart
AUDIO - FAN LYRIC VIDEO / LIVE VIDEO

Video is coming for the fan fave - the most alternative style of the big hitters on the album - think Sleigh Bells producing Katy Perry (with better vocal, obviously).

2 NEW Charli XCX - London Queen AUDIO STREAM VIDEO / LIVE VIDEO

Terrific new wave punk pop. Talking about her move to the US and her surprise at "living the dream like a London queen", it's far more honest and timeless than the forced rebellion of Break The Rules which is now languishing on my chart before tomorrow's/today's release.

3 NEW Clare Maguire - Boomerang AUDIO STREAM (language) / FASHION VIDEO featuring half of song

Another Soundcloud demo - but this one has a thumping modern beat and a powerhouse vocal. Surely a single in the future?

      4 2 Electric Youth - Innocence (2 weeks; peak #2)
5 NEW Marina and The Diamonds - Froot AUDIO STREAM VIDEO

No-one is sure what this is - single, buzz track, teaser, whatever! But a YouTube video and her first new music (title track to third album) has to qualify for this chart. In fact, none of these mighty top 5 entries are "proper singles" as yet but what is these days?? Great vibrant production on this, i await a better stronger song soon!

      6 4 College and Electric Youth - A Real Hero (19 weeks; peak #4)
      7 1 Leonard Cohen - Did I Ever Love You? (2 weeks; peak #1)
For the second week in a row, a number one drops to 7! A first, i think!

      8 3 Iamamiwhoami - Chasing Kites (2 weeks; peak #3)
      9 5 Holly Johnson - Follow Your Heart (2 weeks; peak #5)
10 12 Electric Youth - The Best Thing (2 weeks; PEAK)
11 6 Jessie Ware - Say You Love Me (9 weeks; peak #2)
      12 13 Jessie Ware - Want Your Feeling (6 weeks; peak #6)
      13 9 Electric Youth - Runaway (2 weeks; peak #9)
      14 14 Yelle - Bouquet Final (3 weeks; peak #14)
      15 10 Sinoia Caves - Forever Dilating Eye (5 weeks; peak #7)
      16 7 Meg Myers - Go (4 weeks; peak #1)
      17 16 Beatrice Eli - Moment Of Clarity (2 weeks; peak #16)
18 NEW Laurel - Shells VIDEO

Kuba! Lana Del Grammar - more Grammar than Lana on this current single.

19 NEW Simple Minds - Blindfolded VIDEO
Back with some of their early synth darkness and blowing U2 out of the water. This was the first of two singles released as grats from upcoming album - the other one is being sent to radio and is less impressive.

      20 8 Echosmith - Cool Kids (22 weeks; peak #1)
Now out again in UK December 7th.

21 15 Future Islands - Seasons (Waiting On You) (2 weeks; peak #15)
22 NEW Anna Calvi - Cry AUDIO STREAM VIDEO
      23 18 The Rua - Fight For What's Right (2 weeks; peak #18)
      24 11 Marianne Faithfull - Sparrows Will Sing (2 weeks; peak #11)
25 NEW The Anchoress - One For Sorrow VIDEO
Not a Steps cover but the second chart entry from alt-pop female - again produced by ex-Mansun man Paul Draper.

26 NEW K*nt and The Gang - That's Why I'm Voting UKIP VIDEO (adult content)
      K*nt returns to political satire.

27 NEW SPC ECO - Zombie VIDEO
28 NEW No Devotion - 10,000 Summers AUDIO STREAM VIDEO
29 RE Ryn Weaver - OctaHate VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #24)
Charli XCX co-write now getting pushed with a glossy video.

30 NEW Brian Wilson and Various Artists (BBC Music: The Impossible Orchestra) - God Only Knows VIDEO
This was a surprise 2-years-in-the-making allstar advert for the BBC unveiled midweek. Proceeds go to Children In Need (in the fashion of the previous allstar video Perfect Day which made my top 20) with downloads out now and CD formats out nearer the telethon. Wilson gets a main credit in listings being the writer but the artwork credits BBC Music and the BBC Music site calls the ensemble The Impossible Orchestra - a better name, i think.

Full list of stars in video:
Beach Boys star Brian Wilson, who composed the track, heads the group, and is joined by: popular music stars Sir Elton John, One Direction, Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder, Jake Bugg, Lorde, Emeli Sandé, Chris Martin, Kylie Minogue, Paloma Faith, Sam Smith and Florence Welch; rock musicians Chrissie Hynde, Brian May and Dave Grohl; classical musicians Alison Balsom, Martin James Bartlett, Danielle de Niese and Nicola Benedetti; folk performer Eliza Carthy; Senegalese singer Baaba Maal; jazz performer Jamie Cullum; British Asian Music star Jaz Dhami; the BBC's Zane Lowe*, Lauren Laverne*, Katie Derham, Gareth Malone* and Jools Holland; and the youthful vocals of the Tees Valley Youth Choir and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
*Non-musical appearances - Malone isn't actually conducting on the record! Producer Ethan Johns acts as conductor of TVYC at start of video and in group photo. And woo for Tees Valley Youth Choir - local talent! Best bit is Lorde.

31 NEW Laurel - To The Hills VIDEO
32 NEW FKA Twigs - Video Girl LIVE SESSION VIDEO
33 NEW Lovestarrs - Life Is A Bitch AUDIO STREAM VIDEO
34 NEW John J Presley - Honeybee LIVE VIDEO

          • Every week when i see your chart i got scared of great amount of new entries,
and i have so little time.
            So, quickly:
Sky Ferreira great, Charlie XCX average, Claire Maguire great, maybe the best.
Marina disappointment, Laurel great, Simple minds surprisingly good.
Also like Anna Calvi, SPC ECO and of course Twin Atlantic (have a soft spot on them).

4 NEW Taylor Swift - Out Of The Woods AUDIO

              -------------------------------------------------

MY ALBUM CHART OCTOBER 19th 2014

NO ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD DISCUSSION PLEASE. THAT'S WHAT THE STREAMS ARE FOR.

1 NEW Jessie Ware - Tough Love
              DEEZER / SPOTIFY

More "quiet storm" loveliness. Highlights: the pop blast of Champagne Kisses, the eighties smooth of Midnight Caller, the title track, Want Your Feeling, You And I (Forever) and the mega-hit in waiting Pieces. Not quite the classic Devotion was but a great set - only Sweetest Song falls a bit flat.

2 NEW Lamb - Backspace Unwind DEEZER / SPOTIFY

First one i've not bought by them (purely because of finance situation). Again, not a classic but it may be better than the previous album.

              3 1 Holly Johnson - Europa (3 weeks; peak #1)
              4 2 Electric Youth - Innerworld (3 weeks; peak #2)
5 NEW Texas Hippie Coalition - Ride On DEEZER / SPOTIFY

Bit odd how they aren't bigger - even in America - could it be the misleading name? This is balls-to-the-wall singalong southern rock metal, kind of like ZZ Top filtered through Metallica. Or Nickelback on the rare occasions they rock.

6 NEW Craig Armstrong - It's Nearly Tomorrow DEEZER / SPOTIFY
Orchestral downtempo mastermind, helped by Paul Buchanan, Brett Anderson and less famous vocalists. Incidentally Buchanan gets a thanks on Jessie's album though their work isn't on it .

7 NEW Kindness - Otherness DEEZER / SPOTIFY
Adam Bainbridge's second album of alt-dance features Robyn and Dev Hynes who is also on Jessie's album!

8 NEW Godflesh - Streetcleaner DEEZER / SPOTIFY
1989 classic by UK industrial metal act. New album is further down.

9 NEW Kleerup - As If We Never Won (MA) DEEZER / SPOTIFY
From now on MA stands for mini-album. Features Niki and The Dove as well as Susanne.

10 NEW Stars - No One Is Lost DEEZER / SPOTIFY
More synth-based than before. Haven't liked singles but there's better...

              11 4 Leonard Cohen - Popular Problems (4 weeks; peak #2)
              12 NEW The Primitives - Spin-O-Rama DEEZER
First new album of material since 1991 (excluding a 2012 covers album which i chart below).

              13 7 Banks - Goddess (6 weeks; peak #1)
14 NEW Texas Hippie Coalition - Pride Of Texas DEEZER
              15 3 Yelle - Completement Fou (3 weeks; peak #3)
16 NEW The Primitives - Echoes and Rhymes DEEZER
17 NEW Godflesh - Pure DEEZER
              18 5 The Rua - Essence (3 weeks; peak #5)
19 NEW Texas Hippie Coalition - Peacemaker DEEZER
              20 6 Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (4 weeks; peak #1)
21 NEW Godflesh - Godflesh DEEZER
              22 9 Erasure - The Violet Flame (4 weeks; peak #7)
              23 11 Lights - Little Machines (4 weeks; peak #6)
24 14 Sky Ferreira - Night Time, My Time (20 weeks; peak #1)

              26 13 Goat - Commune (4 weeks; peak #7)
              27 10 Aphex Twin - Syro (4 weeks; peak #5)
              28 15 Future Islands - Singles (3 weeks; peak #12)
              29 12 Hozier - Hozier (2 weeks; peak #12)
30 NEW Godflesh - A World Lit Only By Fire DEEZER
              The new album.

31 NEW Brandon and Leah - Together (MA) DEEZER

                • Good to see Lamb charting that high.

Although, I would classify my recently bought albums this way:

                  1. Zola Jesus
                  2. Lamb
                  3. Jessie

You should check her album, it is marvelous!

                  • For a change a few guitar songs on singles chart,
                    Slipknot and Godflesh great.
Texas hippie coalition not bad, but their styling, such a masquerade.

MY ALBUM CHART OCTOBER 26th 2014

NO ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD DISCUSSION PLEASE. THAT'S WHAT THE STREAMS ARE FOR.

                      1 1 Jessie Ware - Tough Love
                      (2 weeks; peak #1) SPOTIFY
I've dumped Deezer as it keeps skipping tracks. :x Sorry for those that only have it but you know where to look. Don't have time to post both links this week, anyway!

2 NEW Boards Of Canada - Hi Scores (MA) SPOTIFY

1995 mini album on a former label that gets reissued whenever BOC have a new album out - the latest issue being this week.

3 NEW ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - IX SPOTIFY

More melodic than past albums but all the better for it, IMO. Pity radio programmers don't agree.

4 NEW Scott Walker and Sunn O))) - Soused SPOTIFY

Second appearance for drone-rockers Sunn O))) after the Ulver collab this year and first for Walker (i will investigate his other acclaimed avant-garde albums later). Gigantic, ominous.

5 NEW Little Big Town - Pain Killer SPOTIFY

Great polished but gritty country rock with alternating female/male vocals. Modern country doesn't get much better unless you're named Underwood.

                      6 NEW Baxter Dury - It's A Pleasure SPOTIFY

As i said, fully synth-based and embracing new wave and his dad's vocal style. Past albums saw him trying not to sound like Ian - see below.
You can't escape what's inherent in you - just ask Julian, Dhani etc.

                      7 2 Lamb - Backspace Unwind (2 weeks; peak ##2)
8 NEW Mark Lanegan Band - Phantom Radio SPOTIFY
Like Dury, this is more electronic than before. Some of the best songs are on the bonus EP No Bells On Sunday on the deluxe version. Other than that, the actual album takes a while to get going.

9 NEW Half Man Half Biscuit - Urge For Offal SPOTIFY
First sales hit album in decades in the offing for veteran indie pioneers. Westward Ho! Massive Letdown is a storming opener.

                      10 3 Holly Johnson - Europa (4 weeks; peak #1)
                      11 4 Electric Youth - Innerworld (4 weeks; peak #2)

                      RIP Mark Bell.

15 RE Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman (? weeks; peak #1) SUPER DELUXE 20th ANNIV. REMASTER on SPOTIFY
6 hours of material!! Originally topped my album chart 20 years ago before i discontinued the chart that year.

16 NEW Little Big Town - The Reason Why SPOTIFY
17 NEW The Newton Brothers - Oculus (OST) SPOTIFY

19 NEW Jennifer Davies - Lapse Of Time (MA) SPOTIFY
20 NEW LFO - Frequencies SPOTIFY
Features big hit LFO. I prefer posted album above at 14 as the emotion got through and so did the pathway to Bjork...

                      21 5 Texas Hippie Coalition - Ride On (2 weeks; peak #5)
                      22 (RE) Bjork - Homogenic (? weeks; peak (#1))
Mark Bell's greatest (in terms of volume as well as content) work with Bjork.

23 NEW Slipknot - Slipknot 10th AE on SPOTIFY
24 NEW ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Source Tags and Codes SPOTIFY

26 NEW The Ting Tings - Super Critical PREVIEW STREAM ON ITUNES
Out to buy next week. Very short and flawed but at least it doesn't outstay its welcome. The group that bottled on calling an album Kunst are now followed by a group whose last album had that title...

27 NEW KMFDM - Our Time Will Come SPOTIFY
28 NEW LFO - Sheath SPOTIFY

                      31 13 Banks - Goddess (7 weeks; peak #1)
32 NEW Baxter Dury - Len Parrot's Memorial Lift DEEZER
33 NEW Various Artists - We Are Reasonable People SPOTIFY
Warp records comp from 98 with exclusive tracks by BOC, Aphex, Mark Bell etc.

34 NEW Baxter Dury - Floor Show SPOTIFY (NSFW artwork)

37 NEW Zola Jesus - Taiga SPOTIFY
I tried but i don't like her voice - never have. Find her cold, emotionless, one-note. The music is nothing Florence hasn't done better but is interesting enough to chart it here.

                      38 15 Yelle - Completement Fou (4 weeks; peak #3)
39 NEW Slipknot - .5: The Gray Chapter SPOTIFY
40 NEW Baxter Dury - Happy Soup SPOTIFY
I can hear why this was big in France. It's very Franco-pop. Bit too twee for me.

                      41 18 The Rua - Essence (4 weeks; peak #5)
42 NEW Billy Idol - Kings and Queens Of The Underground SPOTIFY
Save Me Now has a great old Idol vibe about it and hits hard but too much of this is either lapsing into self parody rock or mawkish balladry. Particularly sad given that Trevor Horn is involved.

                      43 8 Godflesh - Streetcleaner (2 weeks; peak #8)
                      44 12 The Primitives - Spin-O-Rama (2 weeks; peak #12)
45 9 Kleerup - As If We Never Won (MA) (2 weeks; peak #9)

                                      • ^I turned it off after 5 tracks. Appalling miserable dirges - same reason i don't like James Blake. I like "dirges" like Scott Walker and Sunn O))) though - dirge in a positive sense! Meaning slow but sonically and vocally powerful. Heavy guitars, heavy voice.

I also listened to / skipped Chris De Burgh (naff in the extreme), Aretha Franklin (very weak covers album), Neil Diamond (also naff).

I imagine i'll be turning off Damien Rice's new one pretty quickly too as that's so overwrought and painfully woefully drawn-out it makes Howard sound like Jive Bunny from the sounds of the tracks i heard! I used to like him a bit. I like my tortured artists to be interesting sonically, don't go for acoustic guitars and wailing.

                                          • They're not folk music to me.

The Pogues, The Dubliners, Bella Hardy, Richard Thompson, Moulettes (who i raved over earlier this year) are folk music. Howard and Rice is known in UK as singer/songwriter music.

There's far better things for you to consider in here. As well as Shy For Shore, Jennifer Davies and Tala (though i'm not sure if you'll like her if you don't like Banks). In fact, you were missed from the Forum Song Contest where Innocence (Electric Youth - my entry), Love, Again (Shy For Shore) and Alchemy (Tala) have all competed - you missed the best month it's ever had, i think.

                                              :-?

nah, I didn't want to post that I don't agree with you that Calvin latest entry is his best one. BOC - now I am listening to latest Aphex Twin sounds, no time for BOC... Above & Beyond - they didn't match the marvelousness of previous single....

Yeah, I wanted to ask about Underworld - after I had seen them charting at 80-something on OCC UK chart, but you've just answered my question.
