Jarv Is... is quite apt for today's private parties at home. The Moldovan ESC would-have-been-entry (#15) is also appropriate. #24 mentions retching but never being sick.

I would like some comments from anyone on Janet, Furs, Ren and Jarv (Jarvis Cocker!! ). - all big hits in another era.
And it's a damn shame that the rest of the forum don't seem to love Jessie's Spotlight - it's top 5 on Haven (where they count people's top 30s)! Only me and Leo have it in our top 5s. WTF? (EDIT: just saw Mike's chart - phew! It's still not enough, though, folks)

    • TONY'S HITS CHART: 28th MARCH 2020

I'll be honest, the world may be in a state of uncertainty and worry at the moment but the music scene is incredible. Some things have happened that were totally unexpected - some as a result of the self isolation and/or lockdown in place. I had a real task ordering some of this!

1 1 The Birthday Massacre - The Last Goodbye (3 weeks; peak #1)

2 22 Jarv Is... - House Music All Night Long (4 weeks; PEAK)

"One Nation Under A Roof". Little did he know how true that lyric would be. All of you who loved Pulp should be bopping to this in your rooms.

3 NE Little Mix - Break Up Song

Synthpop greatness (though it could do with a longer edit). From their first album away from Simon Cowell's label.

4 2 Janet Devlin - Away With The Fairies (3 weeks; peak #2)
Been a while since i had two X Factor acts in my top 5.

5 NE Wolfclub - All We Live For

One of those annoyingly reclusive synthwave acts with a track that has powerpop vocals that make it similar to LPX or Against The Current.

      6 NE Blanche - Fences

Back to synth for Blanche on this great song with nice flourishes. I half think she should have saved it for next year's Eurovision.

      7 3 Cam - Till There's Nothing Left (7 weeks; peak #1)
8 6 The Birthday Massacre - The Sky Will Turn (10 weeks; peak #1)
      9 4 Jessie Ware - Spotlight (5 weeks; peak #2)
      10 5 The Psychedelic Furs - You'll Be Mine (3 weeks; peak #5)
      11 18 I Break Horses - Death Engine (7 weeks; PEAK)
I think this might be the "Lonestar - Amazed" of my chart.

      12 8 Lizzy Farrall - Addict (10 weeks; peak #4)
      13 NE Sian - Electricity

      Hard techno on Mau5trap label.

      14 7 The Psychedelic Furs - Don't Believe (8 weeks; peak #1)
15 9 Clannad - Who Knows (Where The Time Goes?) (3 weeks; peak #9)
16 NE AKA George - Bad For You

The first professional promo vid directly inspired by coronavirus? (GLC's cheapo doesn't count)

      17 10 Selena Gomez - Rare (11 weeks; peak #1)
18 NE Carlie Hanson - Daze Inn

      More accidental appropriateness!

      19 12 Ren Harvieu - Strange Thing (3 weeks; peak #12)
      20 11 Taylor Swift - The Man (8 weeks; peak #4)
      21 13 Marina - About Love (8 weeks; peak #3)
      22 14 Best Coast - Different Light (8 weeks; peak #9)
23 NE Echosmith - Love You Better

      Yet another video!

24 RE Gabrielle Aplin - My Mistake (5 weeks; peak #18)

New version of the song complete with video.

      25 17 Echosmith - Stuck (8 weeks; peak #11)
26 NE Lizzy Farrall - Gas Lighting

      27 16 Lady Gaga - Stupid Love (5 weeks; peak #8)
28 NE Maya Hawke - By Myself

Stranger Things star and daughter of Uma and Ethan makes her chart debut.

      29 20 Ren Harvieu - Yes Please (11 weeks; peak #2)
      30 28 I Break Horses - Neon Lights (2 weeks; peak #28)
      31 19 Polly Scattergood - Red (7 weeks; peak #8)
32 NE Riz Ahmed - The Breakup (Shikwa)

33 NE The Weeknd - In Your Eyes

Beats Blinding Lights by 2 places. I think the warning on the video may be tongue-in-cheek.

34 NE Pound Shop Boys - Coronation Street

Pound Shop Boys are Ricardo Autobahn (Cuban Boys / Daz Sampson) and Phil Fletcher (guy behind Hacker T Dog on kids TV). This is the Corrie theme with "It's (not) Grim Up North" type vocals. More from Ricardo on albums...

35 NE Winona Oak - Another Story

36 21 Mister The Kid and Primo - Possession (4 weeks; peak #14)
      37 24 Lizzy Farrall - Knocked For Six (6 weeks; peak #24)
      38 25 Purity Ring - Peacefall / Pink Lightning (2 weeks; peak #25)
39 NE Selena Gomez - Dance Again

      40 23 Allusinlove - My Cat (3 weeks; peak #22)
      41 26 The Killers - Caution (3 weeks; peak #25)
      42 15 Natalia Gordienko - Prison (4 weeks; peak #10)
      43 27 Polly Scattergood - After You (3 weeks; peak #21)
      44 29 Keep Shelly In Athens - Horizon's Glow / Patission Street (2 weeks; peak #29)
      45 32 Millie Turner - Jungle (4 weeks; peak #24)
      46 30 Korn - Can You Hear Me? (7 weeks; peak #18)
47 31 In This Moment - As Above, So Below (2 weeks; peak #31)
48 NE Skepta, Chip and Young Adz - Waze

First grime track i've charted for a while - 2 veterans of course here.

      49 36 Maddie Medley - Buzz (4 weeks; peak #28)
50 NE Rita Ora - How To Be Lonely

I wasn't going to chart this but the video is so insane i had to!

      -------------------------------------------

      TONY'S ALBUMS CHART: 28th MARCH 2020

Top 3 are all early or unannounced releases due to coronavirus.

1 NE The Birthday Massacre - Diamonds BANDCAMP

On YouTube and Bandcamp from Monday as a gift to fans and also because they "neeeded to ship the CDs out before Pennsylvania shut down" (CDs started shipping later in the week but before 27th due date). This resulted in a #35 download position on OCC and the YouTube stream seems to have had a knock-on effect on iTunes as it roared up to a lifetime peak.

Musically it's the synth/rock mix they're known for. Highlights: Flashback, Crush, Parallel World. I'll post individual tracks from next week.

2 NE Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts V: Together
3 NE Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts VI: Locusts YOUTUBE PLAYLIST

Released on YouTube (combined playlist is linked) and free download midweek (before general release on 27th) this surprise double helping of their instrumental series are great mood music for the times. V is hopeful, VI is anxious.

4 NE Spray - Living In Neon BANDCAMP

1/2 of Cuban Boys (1 of whom is a girl!). I never liked any of the recent Spray vids posted on Autobahn's channel so i never bothered listening to their albums. Well, this 2002 release is a great set of intelligent trash-pop and i'm a bit dismayed it's taken me 18 years to hear it (to be fair, they never had much publicity and the deluxe volume linked is from 2017). I Am Gothic was a cult anthem in the US and is reworked as the kinder We Are Gothic on the deluxe (post Sophie Lancaster murder). Both versions are posted here from YT. I now understand the recent We Are Gothic vid - didn't know I Am Gothic before.

      5 1 Best Coast - Always Tomorrow (5 weeks; peak #1)
6 NE Spray - Children Of A Laser God BANDCAMP
2007 - again in deluxe form.

7 NE Baxter Dury - The Night Chancers SPOTIFY
8 NE Adamski - Revolt SPOTIFY
A 20 track set inspired by waltz music - not all of it works but the stuff that does is a real surprise. Features David McAlmont, Asia Argento, Lee "Scratch" Perry. From 2015 and 1 of a bunch of his charting.

9 NE The Weeknd - After Hours SPOTIFY
      10 NE Childish Gambino - 3.15.20 SPOTIFY
11 NE The Slow Readers Club - The Joy Of The Return SPOTIFY
      12 2 Allie X - Cape God (5 weeks; peak #2)
13 NE Adamski - Doctor Adamski's Musical Pharmacy SPOTIFY
The one with Killer, The Space Jungle, Flashback Jack.

14 NE Adamski - Liveandirect SPOTIFY
      15 3 Hilary Woods - Birthmarks (2 weeks; peak #3)
16 NE Spray - Failure Is Inevitable SPOTIFY
      2019.

17 NE Roger Eno and Brian Eno - Mixing Colours SPOTIFY
So ambient it's almost not there!

      18 5 Daniel Davies - Signals (4 weeks; peak #3)
      19 6 AXLS - First Contact (4 weeks; peak #4)
20 NE Adamski - Free To Kill Again SPOTIFY
His new album - ten versions/variations of Killer! Even has a track called Killer Virus! Features Boy George, Nina Hagen, Mykki Blanco.

      21 9 The Fizz - Smoke and Mirrors (3 weeks; peak #9)
      22 8 Mandy Moore - Silver Landings (3 weeks; peak #7)
      23 7 The Shires - Good Years (2 weeks; peak #7)
24 NE Spray - Enforced Fun SPOTIFY
      2016.

      25 11 Riz Ahmed - The Long Goodbye (3 weeks; peak #8)
26 NE Jah Wobble and The Invaders Of The Heart - Ocean Blue Waves SPOTIFY
Jah's second album in 2 weeks!

      27 4 Frazier Chorus - Sue (2 weeks; peak #4)
28 NE Adam Lambert - Velvet SPOTIFY
      29 10 Maria McKee - La Vita Nuova (2 weeks; peak #10)
30 16 Christine and The Queens - La Vita Nuova (MA) (5 weeks; peak #6)

      • Wow I need to check that new Adamski collection out!

Great to see Little Mix so high - unexpected but I also have been enjoying this.

        • The first professional promo vid directly inspired by coronavirus? (GLC's cheapo doesn't count)
sadly (or funnily) there are plenty now:
Yofrangel - Coronavirus - Reggaeton/latin/urban viral banger (7 million views)
          Brutal deathcore coronavirus song
Misty Terrace & Jurmey Choden - Corona - a song from Bhutan, Eurovision-level bewildering stuff
Jehovah Shalom Acapella - Corona - religious acapella
Pjay feat. MiJA - Corona - EDM (Martin Garrix-like) take on virus
Dee-1 - Corona Clap - of course, there's comedy rap

You've beaten me to feature all of those three good ones in your chart. Fully agree on Blanche's song.

Thanks (i think!). That last one is dreadful - trying to make a dance meme out of the virus. They're all way more irresponsibly filmed than George's vid - on his own in one room. Can't believe the first one dates back to Feb 9th!

I should have stated in the post that it's released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Killer so it was lined up before the virus outbreak. It's not a thing he did in response to it like the NIN albums. I also own those singles mentioned on the Pharmacy album but have never heard the album in full - at least not legally - till now.

                • That Pound Shop Boys song definitely would’ve been a top 10 hit in the late 80s

1 1 The Birthday Massacre - The Last Goodbye (4 weeks; peak #1) 4 WEEKS TOP!

                    ^Lyric video by BloodyMoffin.

                    2 6 Blanche - Fences (2 weeks; PEAK)

3 2 Jarv Is... - House Music All Night Long (5 weeks; peak #2)

                    ^Icarus remix.

                    10 12 Lizzy Farrall - Addict (11 weeks; peak #4)
                    11 10 The Psychedelic Furs - You'll Be Mine (4 weeks; peak #5)
12 18 Carlie Hanson - Daze Inn (2 weeks; PEAK)
13 16 AKA George - Bad For You (2 weeks; PEAK)
                    14 11 I Break Horses - Death Engine (8 weeks; peak #11)
15 NE Spray - We Are Gothic / I Am Gothic

As detailed on last week's albums. I've now decided to chart the song. 2017 rework / 2003 single remix (different to the album).

                    16 19 Ren Harvieu - Strange Thing (4 weeks; peak #12)
17 NE Elephant Tree - Bird

More modern prog-metal / space rock.

18 26 Lizzy Farrall - Gas Lighting (2 weeks; PEAK)
                    19 14 The Psychedelic Furs - Don't Believe (9 weeks; peak #1)
20 15 Clannad - Who Knows (Where The Time Goes?) (4 weeks; peak #9)
                    21 17 Selena Gomez - Rare (12 weeks; peak #1)
22 NE Dua Lipa - Physical

So i relented and submitted to the 80s vibe! Was probably the unoriginal lyrics that put me off it. The new single Break My Heart is a lousy redo of INXS though.

23 NE Sazzie - Hot Stuff

Not a Donna Summer cover! Good Natured / Lovestarrs singer is back with her best one under the Sazzie name.

                    24 24 Gabrielle Aplin - My Mistake (6 weeks; peak #18)
25 34 Pound Shop Boys - Coronation Street (2 weeks; PEAK)

Autobahn has both the highest new entry and biggest climber!

                    26 13 Sian - Electricity (2 weeks; peak #13)
                    27 21 Marina - About Love (9 weeks; peak #3)
28 NE Venus - No Signs / Amy / You're Alright, I Guess (Wicked Things EP)

^Entire EP (less than 10 minutes) is up as a YT stream from Leeds rockers.

29 NE Purity Ring - I, Like The Devil

^I added that comma as that's what they actually sing. Title could be misconstrued otherwise.

30 NE Daphne and The Fuzz - Early Morning

Rather short but nice retro feel.

                    31 20 Taylor Swift - The Man (9 weeks; peak #4)
                    32 22 Best Coast - Different Light (9 weeks; peak #9)
                    33 23 Echosmith - Love You Better (2 weeks; peak #23)
34 NE Smoke Fairies - Elevator

One of the few tracks on the album that justifies OCC including them on Rock / Metal charts.

35 NE Rekording / Chris Franklin - Stay The F*ck At Home

A poem by Franklin on coronavirus urgency became a viral hit when set to music by Bob E Kelley on his Rekording channel (he was an AOR musician in the 70s/80s).

                    36 35 Winona Oak - Another Story (2 weeks; peak #35)
                    37 29 Ren Harvieu - Yes Please (12 weeks; peak #2)

                    43 28 Maya Hawke - By Myself (2 weeks; peak #28)
44 NE GoGo Penguin - Kora

A track from Live and Stripped EP.

                    48 39 Selena Gomez - Dance Again (2 weeks; peak #39)
49 RE Snow Ghosts - Heavy Heart (7 weeks; peak #14)

                    ^Mogwai remix.

50 36 Mister The Kid and Primo - Possession (5 weeks; peak #14)

                      • 39 NE Desire - Escape - that's a cute one albeit slightly repetitive

Yay for Lizzy debut in the album top 5. Smoke Fairies' single is also enjoyable.

What about Elephant Tree? I wouldn't even know about them if you hadn't charted them!

Oh i just went on Twitter and saw what Hep is doing. Watching Eurovision 2009 again. Go back to a show i haven't seen and i might join in (pre 1986).

I have just noticed that #EurovisionAgain was treding, so I joined in.

                        • Great top 4 and great to see "Physical" finally enter. Not a fan of the Pound Shop Boy one, as interesting as it is!

                          • Sorry heppolo the comment thing was referring to me! You can't quote a comment so i removed it from that section and edited it into my next post. I realised afterwards that asking a question in a comment was a bit pointless.

My initial comment was more aimed at Thriller. You spend an hour and a half to 2 hours putting a chart post together and get a response within 2 minutes on a song everyone knows. Even the Jessie Ware remix gets not a mention.

No mentions of Birthday Massacre album - Lizzy Farrall basically nicked their purple bunny thing for her look and has some other similarities. I realise TBM have no promo videos but a comment even to say they are average/disappointing (like last time) would be good. The guitar sound at the end of Crush is the greatest musical moment of the year so far. I'm happy Ste likes them a bit but it wasn't him i was getting at.

PS: nobody likes Janet Devlin's best song in ages. Not even LastDreamer ?

Sadly this album of mainly covers is not great - but there's 3 or 4 tracks that are good (including Stones cover Playing With Fire and the doo-wop song In The Rain) and it's trying to do something at least.

                                • So nice to see the extended top 75 chart today.

You've beaten me to featuring those three songs in your chart, I definitely like them even more (all gonna be pretty high in my chart in days to come)
                                  54 NE Hania Rani - F Major
64 NE Hayley Mary - Brat
66 NE The Naked and Famous - Come As You Are

65 NE Sateen - Crystallized - what's this all about? the music video reminds me of those weird youtube channels
71 NE Beans On Toast - Strange Days - I haven't heard it before, strange days indeed but sounds weirdly cosy.

TOPS have actually been frequently featured in my chart, but are yet to peak higher than #5, yet you make me look at their catalogue once again.

                                  • Well it’s nice to see Tove Lo, albeit a lot lower than I have her this week! Also Kiesza.

Sorry, new Charli one is terrible IMO.

                                      • Nice top 6 - the Tops #1 is good. I like the Charli one but need to listen a bit more.

Good to see Tove Lo enter too.

SPC ECO - I forgot all about them but I've liked some of their stuff in the past - annoying it's not on Spotify though - I like all my music in one place. "Don't Mind Me" stands out on first listen.
