Congrats on earning all the Badges! Since you've posted the full charts, does that mean you're back from vacation now? If so, I'd love to hear how it went (especially with your partner's family) ;) Also - if you're back home again, might you challenge the Elite Four soon...?

OoOh...so did you whip up some Christmas cookies last year? Made your own gingerbread house from scratch? Or maybe a whole Christmas cake...?

Speaking of Ari - less than a week to go until the album finally drops. Can't believe we're already nearly there!
YES! I'm VERY ready - partially because it's been over two years since Dangerous Woman, but also because there hasn't been a lot of brand-new music that's really hooked me lately (so I decided to check out ABBA's Gold in the meantime...)

Makes sense, and it's often the same case for me too. Lead singles are surrounded by all that "finally-some-brand-new-material" hype, getting us ramped up for the artist's new era (plus the fact that it's just had more time to accumulate plays than anything else on the album).

There even was a new version for the German market with German music legend Nena (she's basically the German Madonna), but even that version did absolutely nothing over here. But i guess she was already too far into the era so i hope she can come back with a banger now.
Damn, so "Only You" was truly ignored everywhere :-? Didn't she also push "Don't Let Me Be Yours" after "Symphony"? Well, at least gave it a video...

As fast as my love for Blair came out of the blue, it also started to fade out of a sudden. Maybe it will come back once the tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race will be available over here.
Ah, I didn't realize that! I definitely assumed her presence on your chart was aided by you watching/following her on the show. Impressive that she managed to hook you without any exposure from the show...even if it wasn't for long.

Ari's scored a holy trinity of weeks on top now! The hype is REAL as we head into Sweetener's long-awaited, highly-anticipated release...
    • I gave "Darkside" a listen after seeing it on Jake's chart. I'm not feeling it as much as "Faded" so far (and even that one didn't make a huge impact on my chart) but there's some catchy bits, for sure!
    • It seems like we're often talking about messier/less-structured eras lately, and P!nk's certainly been providing a great example with Beautiful Trauma Now she's given us another "meh" video for a song that doesn't seem to be getting any other push as a single (at radio, or performances, etc). I like "Secrets," and I'm glad it's getting at least some attention, but if only she were treating these songs the way she did "Try," "Just Give Me A Reason," etc. I've said this before, but I guess I just need to get used to this approach to promoting an album being the new normal.
    • Damn, Anne-Marie finally hooks me with something for the first time since "Rockabye"...and you're not really feeling it Ah well, at least it debuted inside the Top 20!

Yet another almighty chart, Tansike Also - many thanks for the bday wishes on Facebook! <3

Thanks! And yes, i’m already back since last Thursday. It went very well! As expected, his family is sooo nice and warm and welcomed me so nicely. Unfortunately I’m someone who needs a lot of time to open up so it took a while to get into the whole thing, and two weeks being there (we arrived on wednesday evening and left on a wednesday evening) was just too short. One more week would have been perfect (or a whole life ). I was so looking forward to this for a while and it’s been my first real vacation in nearly three years, so I’m currently not in the best mood since it’s all already over. It was also so beautiful to be together with my partner for so long and all the time, not having to worry about things all the time. Just enjoy the time, waking up whenever you wake up, don’t have to think about what you’re gonna eat as there was always someone who cooked something, not being stressed out, not caring about when or how long you see your love the next time etc.… these two weeks were sooo good. It was rainy season though but that was actually good as I get a sunburn so fast and without clouds it would have been too hot for me, and even with clouds and rain here and there it still was warm enough to wear short pants and a T-Shirt, so that’s all I wanted.
Hmm… I don’t know. I’m really not in a hurry about that and as it was the case before my vacation, my enthusiasm for the game isn’t the same anymore as when I started to pick it up again.

I made some simple Christmas cookies last year to give away to my family. That was all, but it felt so good doing something like this again as I didn’t do it for a very long time previously.

Ah, that explains why ABBA have several entries on your charts! But yes, I’m also looking forward to this and my expectations are really big right now. But yes, it really is a quiet time at the moment with not so much new music coming out which is really good. I hope this changes soon…

Oops! How could I forget about “Don’t Let Me Be Yours” You’re obviously right, that one got a video as well, though I don’t think she really promoted it. It already was a hit in Sweden and it’s written by Ed Sheeran, which is probably why they tried to give it a go. It got released before “Only You”, but there really were two singles after “Symphony” and both pretty much bombed apart from her home country. And to be fair, before “Symphony” she released “So Good” as a single, which also wasn’t a hit… so it’s been nearly two years since she last scored a hit on her own (“I Would Like”)

No, and to be honest I don’t even remember why I checked her music out. I think it randomly appeared on YouTube and I immediately enjoyed what I heard. Well, she owns the most successful song and album by a Drag Queen on my charts now, so there’s at least two things she achieved even with a short run

Yes… but i wouldn’t say the hype is real, at least not for me. “God Is A Woman” topping my charts is more a sign of lacking opponents. Bebe Rexha still being so high is also something weird. I just feel there are not many new songs being released which are also able to make a very good impression on me. But maybe that was just the case during the last few weeks as I was on vacation and didn’t listen much to music for once & didn’t even care to follow what’s hot and what’s not.

Glad you checked “Darkside” out. I love the vocals on it. It’s nothing new for Alan Walker and “Faded” remains his best work to date, but “Darkside” is a nice song for the moment. So I guess “Faded” is his only song which entered your charts or got your attention so far, or is there something else you know by Alan Walker?

True! A shame, as P!nk’s eras used to be so well structured and with “Beautiful Trauma” she had the material to get one long, very successful era again. But apart from “What About Us”, the singles have been a mess and so was the promo. As you say, I’m also happy “Secrets” is at least getting some attention, but it deserved more. Also, I still think “Where We Go” should have been a single as it’s sooo good. I’m not sure if this is really the new normal… but I guess it’s more normal to see artists concentrating themselves on their tours and going on tour as soon as possible, as that is where they get the money these days.

I know It’s not bad, but it just doesn’t click with me the way I was hoping for. Both artists could do so much better IMO

Thank you so much – and you’re welcome <3 I hope you had an amazing day!

        • Singles Top40

[spoiler:10g8co3a]It’s summer and there really isn’t happening a lot when it comes to the Singles Top40, as only three new entries and two re-entries are able to sneak into the Top40 this week, with two of the re-entries making the upper half and all of the new entries being in the lower part of the charts. In the end, it’s still Ariana Grande’s “God Is A Woman” which tops the charts for a fourth week, making it the longest running number one song of the year so far. And with Ariana’s new album “Sweetener” coming out tomorrow, it’s likely to see the song spending another week atop the charts in a week. Due to the drought when it comes to new releases, Alan Walker’s “Darkside” (2-2), Vanessa Mai’s “Wir 2 immer 1” (4-3), Bebe Rexha’s “I’m A Mess” (3-4), P!nk’s “Secrets” (5-5), Lindsey Stirling’s “First Light” (6-6), Amy Shark’s “I Said Hi” (7-8) and Ariana’s “No Tears Left To Cry” (8-10) all don’t move a lot and make the Top10 very static. Two songs are able to bring at least some change into that part, and that are “Happy Now” by Zedd & Elley Duhé and Nicki Minaj’s “Chun-Li”. The latter is able to re-enter the charts at #9 due to the release of Nicki’s new album “Queen”, while the latter jumps 17-7 in its fourth week, becoming Zedd’s sixth Top10 entry.

Other new and re-entries this week: Following “Chun-Li”, Nicki Minaj also has a second re-entry due to the album release boost, as “Bed” featuring Ariana Grande is back at #17. The highest new entry belongs to R&B singer Ciara. While her previous single “Level Up” leaves the Top40 after three weeks this week, she already released its follow-up called “Freak Me”, which is new at #22. Two spots lower is “Was geht ab”, the new single by Swiss Schlager singer Beatrice Egli. It’s already her third entry from her current album “Wohlfühlgarantie”, making it her album with most singles entries, plus with its arrival at #24 it also becomes her third highest peaking single ever, only behind the #14 peaking “Federleicht”, which is still her biggest hit as it got certified with Gold, and the #3 peaking “Verliebt, verlobt, verflixt nochmal” from earlier this year. The third and final debut goes to singer-songwriter Jason Mraz, who is mostly famous for his gigantic hit “I’m Yours”. Shockingly, his new single “Have It All” is his very first notation ever at #36.

Other talking points this week: This week wasn’t the most exciting one when it comes to new and re-entries, but there are a lot of new certifications this time. Following a disappointing chartrun with “Stampede” and an underperformance for the Evanescence collaboration “Hi-Lo” (31-28), Lindsey Stirling still got a big hit with “First Light”, which goes Gold this week (6-6). Also being used to certifications yet having underperformed with her last few releases is Tarja, who finally gets another Gold certified single this week as “Love To Hate” (12-15) reached the mark. Halsey & Lauren Jauregui’s “Strangers” (16-18) and Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj’s “The Light Is Coming” (18-21) both go Gold as well. An important certification goes to “Solo”, the chart-topping hit by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato. The track gets certified with Platinum this week as only the fifth song released in 2018 to do so.

Zedd & Elley Duhé’s “Happy Now” goes up by ten spots as the biggest climber while Robyn’s “Missing U” falls ten spots (29-39) as the biggest loser this week.

          My Charts - week 33/2018 – 16 august 2018 - the Queen is back
          .
          • Album Top20

[spoiler:1t3xlpfk]Another week, another number one. The top albums are changing weekly lately, as this week has yet another new entry right on the top of the charts. This time it’s the highly anticipated fourth studio album by Nicki Minaj, simply called “Queen”. The Queen of Rap has released the first album in nearly four years and immediately scores her third number one album, as it debuts at number one, just like her previous two albums “Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded” (three weeks in 2012) and “The Pinkprint” (two weeks in 2014) did.

Even though Nicki got a very strong week for her album, the number one spot still wasn’t a safe bet for her, as Vanessa Mai also got yet another very strong week for her album “Schlager”, which dips 1-2 now. Tarja’s “Act II” remained strong as well, filling out the Top3 (2-3). And with the release of Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener” tomorrow, the competition definitely remains strong for yet another week.

Other new entries this week: Just one more, and that’s “Know.”, the new album by singer-songwriter Jason Mraz. Even though he’s releasing albums for quite a while now, the arrival of “Know.” at #5 is his very first notation on my album charts.

Other talking points this week: Years & Years’ “Palo Santo” leaves the Top5 in its sixth week (4-6), but it’s still charting higher than the peak of their debut “Communion”. The set also gets certified with Gold this week, being their first album certification.

So basically, you're ready to run off with your man and live there full-time now? ;) I'm glad to hear the trip was as relaxing and refreshing as you'd hoped (and that his family wasn't as difficult as you'd feared). Sounds like it was a truly proper vacation/getaway! Getting back to normal, routine day-to-day life after such an awesome experience is definitely a downer :x Maybe someday you two can retire there...? <3

It already was a hit in Sweden and it’s written by Ed Sheeran, which is probably why they tried to give it a go. It got released before “Only You”, but there really were two singles after “Symphony” and both pretty much bombed apart from her home country. And to be fair, before “Symphony” she released “So Good” as a single, which also wasn’t a hit… so it’s been nearly two years since she last scored a hit on her own (“I Would Like”)
Hopefully Zara never sees that I didn't realize it's already been THAT long since "I Would Like" was smashing, though that stretch of time does explain why she hadn't been on my mind in a while/why it felt like she'd been absent for a while (until we started having this discussion here).

But maybe that was just the case during the last few weeks as I was on vacation and didn’t listen much to music for once & didn’t even care to follow what’s hot and what’s not.
The vacation distraction totally makes sense (and I think it's a good thing that you were busy with stuff other than following new music during your stay) ;) ;) ;) It's been a similar situation with me lately. I do like "Don't Leave Me Alone," but a lack of strong/exciting new competition allowed it to stand out more than it might have otherwise.

So I guess “Faded” is his only song which entered your charts or got your attention so far, or is there something else you know by Alan Walker?

Also, I still think “Where We Go” should have been a single as it’s sooo good. I’m not sure if this is really the new normal… but I guess it’s more normal to see artists concentrating themselves on their tours and going on tour as soon as possible, as that is where they get the money these days.
YES! It's not like this is an album where there aren't many single-worthy tracks/songs with hit potential to choose from (which makes it even more frustrating that they haven't gotten a proper chance to shine) :-? It might've been tough for her anyway, given what tends to smash in the streaming era, but it felt like "What About Us" was the only single where she/her team even really tried this era.

How can you not be hyped for Sweetener when GIAW just became your longest-running-No. 1 of 2018? Not to mention, all three singles/preview tracks spent some time on top. That post-vacation-depression must've hit you hard **Hug**
                • "Darkside" has been charming me more than I initially expected. I don't think it'll shoot to No. 1 on my chart anytime soon (especially with Sweetener out now), but I've been re-visiting it more often that I would've thought after my first listen.
                • Wow, "I'm A Mess" is enjoying a VERY strong run so far! Granted, that's probably (at least partially) because of the lack of big competition lately - but still pretty impressive! Plenty of other No. 1's have fallen far faster.
                • OoOoh...I definitely didn't see that jump for "Happy Now" coming, so that's a fantastic surprise!
                • Relieved that "Don't Leave Me Alone" is still hanging in there!

I wish! No, seriously, i have to admit i wouldn't be sure if i'd like to do that. On one side, of course, as it was sooo magical there. On another side, i'm not sure if it still would have the same effect on me when i would always live there & with him. It made such a great impression on me because it was a special time and something unusual, if that makes sense. Well, yeah, the family wasn't as difficult as i feared (or the situation wasn't; i knew his family would be nice, but i didn't know how the whole situation will be), but i needed several days to open up a little bit as i was incredibly shy, and my man just admitted that it really was kinda awkward But to my defense, he knew that i'm a person who always needs a lot of time to open up, but when i do, i can't stop opening up more and more haha... plus it took me even longer because it was 1) his family 2) more than just one or two persons 3) they were speaking in another language i don't understand all the time, so it was hard to get into a talk with them.
Who knows? I always said that i could imagine living there when i retire, but this still takes 40 years

Yeah, it's been nearly two years since she released "I Would Like" i think... and "Symphony" is also already a year and a half old. Time flies by so fast! Hmm... from what i remember, Zara never was that big on your charts, right? I think "I Would Like" was quite a 'hit' for her though, or am i completely wrong?

Thanks, and yes, it really was a very good thing, even though i have to admit i still kinda missed it. But it really was the first time i didn't care for music like that, in previous vacations i always still listened to music a lot. This time i didn't... and it was nice! Anyways, things already changed fast and there will be more than 10 new entries this week

Ah okay. Well then it's quite impressive how "Darkside" keeps on growing on you. Hm... to be fair, most of Alan's songs are very similar, so if you know one of them, you pretty much know all of them. The follow-up to "Faded", "Sing Me To Sleep", was quite strong as well IMO, plus i really enjoyed "All Falls Down" with Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals.

True... i don't even get the point of the whole era to be honest. It's really one of the laziest era from a big artist of the last few years. Just when she released the album i've enjoyed the most from her (and by far!)

It really did Thankfully, i'm getting back on track and the hype came back, though the album itself isn't as amazing as i was hoping for in the end. I'm already very excited to see how she will do on your next charts & especially which tracks will be the most successful ones

Amazing news! I'm very glad "Darkside" grew on you and it's already huge to see it even charting on your charts considering nothing from Alan even made it onto your library since "Faded".

Yes, "I'm A Mess" is holding on very well and is very likely to end up at a very high position when it comes to the Year-End Charts. The crazy thing is it's only starting to do something on the official charts now, as it's still rising on Spotify and keeps on reaching new peaks there every week, so let's see how long it can hang on on my charts.

I knew you would enjoy the jump for "Happy Now" - he definitely released another nice bop

                      My Charts - week 34/2018 – 23 august 2018 - it’s Sweetener week
                      .
                      • Singles Top40

[spoiler:1nw5ibse]Forget what has been said about the charts a week ago and the drought when it comes to new releases i've mentioned - this week it's all already completely different, as an impressive 13 new entries made it onto the Singles Top40! Two events had the biggest influence on both of this weeks charts: The release of Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album “Sweetener” and soul legend Aretha Franklin’s passing.

Following a run atop the charts for four non-consecutive weeks, Ariana’s “God Is A Woman” slips 1-2 this week even though it was expected to see the song getting a fifth week due to the album release. However, it’s the previous single “No Tears Left To Cry” which is able to top the charts this week, as the song jumps 10-1 following the album release boost. It already topped the Singles Top40 for two weeks when it got released, so it becomes Ariana’s third longest running number one single with three weeks now, only behind the aforementioned “God Is A Woman” and her biggest hit to date, “Break Free”, which topped the charts for a whopping nine weeks. Ariana also becomes the first artist this year to have more than one song with more than two weeks at number one, and the first artist to be able to do so since 2016, when Kerli’s “Feral Hearts” and “Blossom” both topped the charts for three weeks each. Interestingly, both of Kerli’s songs ended up very high on the Year-End Charts 2016 (#1 and #5), and judging from how well both of Ariana’s songs are still doing, she could achieve something similar as well. To round Ariana’s week out, her promo single “The Light Is Coming” also benefits from the album release boost and rises back up 21-14.

Ariana’s biggest competition came from a band who are making completely different music: Amaranthe, a Swedish/Danish melodic metalcore band. Amaranthe are preparing the release of their fifth album called “Helix”, which will be released in October. Their fourth album “Maximalism” has spawned three Top10 entries for them, with “That Song” even peaking at #1 and “Boomerang” at #2. Their new single is called “365” and makes a similarly strong debut as it’s new at #3.

Other new entries this week: The passing of a singer doesn’t have an effect on my charts that often, but this week it had at least a little effect, as Aretha Franklin gets her very first notation with her classic “Respect” at #4. It’s her only entry on the Singles Top40 this week. She’s closely followed by Nicki Minaj, who has released a video for her track “Ganja Burn”, which enters the charts at #5. Not counting “Barbie Tingz”, “Ganja Burn” still is already her third Top10 appearance from her new album “Queen”, as “Chun-Li” (#8, down 9-16 this week) and “Bed” with Ariana Grande (#3, 17-22 this week) did it too. This means “Queen” is already tied with her second album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” has her album with most Top10 entries, as her debut “Pink Friday” and her third set “The Pinkprint” only spawned two Top10 entries each. Also arriving in the Top10 is Katja Krasavice, a very controversial German YouTube personality. Katja already peaked at #3 earlier this year with her second single “Dicke Lippen”, and even though her new single “Sex Tape” is yet again very controversial when it comes to its lyrics, it’s still a guilty pleasure and debuts at #10 – four spots lower than its debut position on the official German Singles Charts!

Still nine entries to go… Camila Cabello has teamed up with Swae Lee for a remix of her song “Real Friends” which enters the charts at #15 as the third single of her solo debut album “Camila”. All three songs have reached the Top20 now. Just missing out the Top20 is Cher. The music legend has decided to record an album full of ABBA classics, and “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” serves as its lead single, which becomes Cher’s third and highest chart entry ever at #21. New Zealand siblings Broods are finally back with new music as well, as they released the song “Peach”, which debuts at #25. Their last album “Conscious” has spawned two Top20 hits in 2016. Coming in one spot lower at #26 is “Promises”, a collaboration by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith. The debut is rather disappointing though considering how many hits both of them already collected over the past few years. Also having a rather weak start is “Girls Go Wild”, the new single by singer-songwriter LP. It’s her fifth chart entry as a lead artist, with all four previous songs peaking inside the Top5.

Four more entries to go… and Jess Glynne also owns one of the new arrivals! Her new single “All I Am” starts at #30, which is slightly better than the peak of her previous single “I’ll Be There” (#36). Jess has a very unusual discography so far, as even though she already owns nine chart entries, only two made the upper half so far with “Rather Be” (#20) and “Take Me Home” (#3). DJ and Producer Marshmello gets his fourth chart entry, as he debuts at #33 with “Happier”, a collaboration with Bastille, who get their fifth chart notation with it. George Ezra recently got his very first top hit in the UK with “Shotgun”, which finally makes it onto my charts as well at #38. It’s the follow-up to “Paradise”, which debuted and peaked at #22 earlier this year. The 13th and final arrival of the week is “Between You And Me”, a collaboration by One Bit and Louisa (Johnson). The song barely made it onto my charts, as it’s new at #40, which is quite disappointing for both artists, as both artists scored a number one single with their previous releases.

Other talking points this week: Due to all these new entries there are many big drops this week. The song with the smallest drop is “Happy Now” by Zedd & Elley Duhé, which only goes down 7-9 after reaching the Top10 a week ago.

Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry” is the biggest climber, while Twenty One Pilots’ “Jumpsuit” tumbles down 20-39 as the biggest loser this week.

                        My Charts - week 34/2018 – 23 august 2018 - it’s Sweetener week
                        .
                        • Album Top20

[spoiler:3sbjv17p]It’s Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener” release week and to no ones surprise, the album debuts right at the top of the Album Top20 this week, becoming her fourth chart topper following her “Christmas Kisses” EP (one week in 2013), her second album “My Everything” (three weeks in 2014) and her third album “Dangerous Woman” (one week in 2016). Overall, “Sweetener” is her sixth appearance on the album charts, as her debut album “Yours Truly” debuted and peaked at #3 for two weeks in 2013 and her “Christmas & Chill” EP also debuted and peaked at #2 for two weeks in 2015. All but “Christmas & Chill” are certified with Platinum or more, making her one of the most successful artists of the last few years. Her albums “Dangerous Woman” (#12) and “My Everything” (#17) are also able to appear on this weeks charts following the new album release boost.

The battle atop the charts remains really strong at the moment. Vanessa Mai continues with yet another strong week for her third solo album “Schlager”, which remains at number two this week, beating Nicki Minaj’s “Queen” which drops 1-3 and Tarja’s “Act II” which dips 3-4.

Other new entries this week: Just one more, and that’s “30 Greatest Hits” by Aretha Franklin, which arrives at #5 as her very first and probably also already last appearance ever on my album charts.

Other talking points this week: Amy Shark’s “Love Monsters” already leaves the upper half (10-11). Jason Mraz does it also, but with a much bigger drop for his album “Know.” (5-14). Also worth a mention is an album which has to leave the charts completely, and that’s “Sparrow” by Ashley Monroe. The singer has spent an impressive 17 weeks in the Album Top20 even though the album only peaked at #7. It’s currently tied with another album as the third longest charting album of the year so far.

Ah, that makes sense. It was perfect as a vacation/temporary escape, but if you'd stayed for TOO long, that effect would fade eventually. This way, it can always remain an amazing memory. Ha, hopefully your man wasn't TOO hard on you for not opening up quickly enough! It's hard to be instantly completely comfortable with total strangers (I certainly can't) - ESPECIALLY when those people are his family, whose opinions/impression of you could impact your relationship! Not to mention the language barrier too. Basically, I'm totally on your side when it comes to needing a little time to loosen up and open up ;) You can't just be totally relaxed, natural, and "feel at home" on command...

Anyways, things already changed fast and there will be more than 10 new entries this week

The follow-up to "Faded", "Sing Me To Sleep", was quite strong as well IMO, plus i really enjoyed "All Falls Down" with Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals.
Both of those titles ring some bells (probably from seeing them on your chart, and others too). Thanks for providing links! Neither sound familiar as I play through them now, so I might've only checked them out once (if that). "All Falls Down" might be my new favorite from him, though!

I didn't realize that Beautiful Trauma is your all-time-favorite P!nk album! Damn, that makes the way it's been handled even MORE heartbreaking It was actually the first album of hers that I checked out in full (I'd always just stuck to the singles before).

**Hug** Glad to hear you were able to bounce back in time for Sweetener's release! Ha, yeah, I feel you with that "isn't as amazing as I was hoping," but there were still some real gems to discover on the full album. It's probably my least favorite album of hers (so far) - but that's mostly because I loved her first three so much, there was bound to be a "dip" at some point in her career. It's a similar situation to Taylor and reputation, after she'd REALLY delivered for me with everything from Fearless ---> 1989.

Yep, that’s how I meant it. And thankfully I’ve arrived back in the ‘real life’ for 100% again now.
No, he wasn’t too hard, he just admitted that there really were some awkward situations. And there really were some moments where I was sitting somewhere and being on my phone as I didn’t know what to talk, and his mom did the same! She’s also not the person who starts a chat with someone, but in the end I actually started to talk with her every now and then & asked her some stuff, and that made my man really proud. Also very glad to hear I’m not the only one who is that way… the interesting thing is, once I have opened up to people, I can’t stop talking, so I’m going from one extreme to another

By the way, I forgot to mention that I really re-listened to some albums on the flight to the Philippines. I re-listened to most Taylor Swift albums (all except her self-titled debut and half of “Reputation”), Charli XCX’s “Pop 2” and “Number 1 Angel” and some others. Unfortunately CHVRCHES’ “Every Open Eye” wasn’t one of them. But I really enjoyed the two Charli releases this time, probably as much as never before, plus I forgot how good "Speak Now" and “Red” actually are

Thanks for writing her discography down – that’s definitely a better one than I expected. All of her entries are certified, which is quite impressive to say the least. I’m especially happy to see “Never Forget You” being Gold as well even if it peaked outside the Top10. That’s still my favorite song by Zara, followed by “Symphony”.

Also interesting that you’re mentioning Bebe & Anne-Marie, as this just made me realize that there were quite many new young pop girls appearing in the music business lately. Dua Lipa being one of them as well… and most of them even delivered (for me, at least! )

Well, both were also some minor hits here and there, especially “Sing Me To Sleep” had some charts action as it was the direct follow-up to “Faded”, while “Angel Falls Down” features Noah Cyrus which gathered some attention as well. I’m very happy to hear your opinion about the latter

Well, I have to admit I only know like four of her albums, and only own two (“Beautiful Trauma” and “The Truth About Love”). But “Beautiful Trauma” was the first time a full album of hers really got my whole attention and there were even some album tracks that I enjoyed a lot, while in the past not even all singles made a good impression for me.

True and this is actually a nice comparison. As while “Reputation” still was a good album, it’s just not as good as the others, and it’s the same situation for “Sweetener” so far. It’s a good album for sure, but Ariana already has such a strong discography so it’s really difficult to keep up on that with every release. It seems like she’s already recording her next album and she even said there will only be one more single (most likely “Breathin”) so maybe we’ll already get a new album in 2019, which would make a lot of sense as I feel like “Sweetener” is ‘just’ something like a transition album.

Yet another chart that's no crying shame, Tansike!
It really was a head-to-head race but “No Tears Left To Cry” has a nice advantage as it’s the song I use as my alarm clock, so it’s the first thing I hear every morning – which is actually also one of the reasons why it’s hanging on in the Top10 for so long I just realized once again what a perfect pop song it is. The opening so incredibly beautiful, the verses are catchy, the chorus is so strong, the video is a little masterpiece (IMO). She really delivered with that one and I wish this and “God Is A Woman” would be part of a slightly stronger album

Same for me. Before her passing, “Respect” was one of like three songs from her I could’ve named, but when I started listening to her Greatest Hits album, I realized how many songs I’ve actually already heard from her and how many hits she actually recorded – it’s incredible! Definitely a huge loss. I feel kinda bad for only discovering some songs from her now…

I already saw this weeks position for “The Light Is Coming” on your charts and was slightly surprised how high it is! As you can see, Ariana wasn’t able to repeat the Top3 slayage from a few weeks ago and even though TLIC increased due to the album release boost, it’ll fall down a lot this week as I’ve started to really get over the song now

I know! “She Loves Control” was such an obvious choice! Though I think “Real Friends” is not the worst choice either… I didn’t know (or forgot…) that it’s among your least favorite tracks on her debut, so I hope it may grow on you now that it’s an official single. And who knows, maybe she still throws out “She Loves Control” in a few months and then a new lead single in early 2019…

Nice that you’re enjoying “All I Am”!

Kinda both Well, seeing it doing so well on Jake’s chart was the reason why put it on my list of possible new entries already a while ago. But the track really started to take off in some countries, including Switzerland, and it hit #1 in the UK, so I decided to listen to it again last week and thought it’s definitely worth an entry now

One last thing… I’m surprised to see you didn’t quote Cher’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” considering ABBA made some impact on your charts lately Haven’t you heard Cher’s version yet or don’t you like it? I’d really recommend it, it’s currently a little guilty pleasure of mine

                                  Thank you so much

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! That one's the diva anthem to end all others. Such a phenomenal, enduring, timeless classic.

Lots of other fantastic debuts this week. "Ganja Burn" is my favourite of the others; you've gotten into "Shotgun" really late!

It occurs to me that Jude does this too, changes who she is depending on who she’s with. They’re like toads changing their skin colour. How come I’m always just me?

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! That one's the diva anthem to end all others. Such a phenomenal, enduring, timeless classic.

Lots of other fantastic debuts this week. "Ganja Burn" is my favourite of the others; you've gotten into "Shotgun" really late!

Very glad to hear "No Tears Left To Cry" grew on you a bit! I still prefer it to "God Is A Woman" but that one is very, very strong as well. She easily delivered two of her best songs ever with these two for me!

Yes! "Respect" is such a classic. RIP Queen of Soul

Nice to hear you enjoy many other songs as well. "Ganja Burn" is also a highlight on "Queen" IMO and i'm happy she released a video for it. As for "Shotgun"... i actually already enjoyed it quite a lot when i checked his album out months ago. It was even one of my highlights back then, but somehow it fell under the radar for me. I'm glad i revisited it lately!

[spoiler:2tbf8j2i]Ariana Grande’s album release boost is already over but two of her songs are still going on strong this week and even battled for the top spot yet again. The battle for the number one spot was even very tight this week, as there wasn’t a clear winner. In the end, it’s Danish/Swedish melodic metal band Amaranthe who takes the crown, as their single “365” rises 3-1 in its second week, with Ariana’s “No Tears Left To Cry” (1-3) and the newly Gold certified “God Is A Woman” (2-4) not being too far behind. Also part of the battle was the highest of ten new entries this week, coming from K-Pop band BTS. The band is currently having success all over the world and is definitely the biggest artist on a worldwide scale from the K-Pop genre, and this week they’re finally able to get their very first notation ever on my charts with the newly released single “Idol”, which actually features Nicki Minaj. The track starts at #2.

Other new entries this week: It’s been already a year since Nick Jonas appeared on the charts the last time with the surprising hit “Find You”, which peaked at #7. He’s finally arriving again as he teamed up with German DJ and producer Robin Schulz on the track “Right Now”, which makes a strong entry at #5 this week. With its arrival, it immediately becomes Robin’s highest charting track ever and Nick’s second highest one, as his collaboration with Tove Lo called “Close” peaked at #4 in early 2016. Cardi B has picked the next single of her debut album “Invasion Of Privacy”, and that’s the Kehlani featured “Ring”, which enters the charts at #13. French singer-songwriter Jain is back with her second album called “Souldier”, which spawned the single “Alright” so far. The track finally arrives on my charts at #15 as her second entry to date, following her breakthrough hit “Come”, which debuted and peaked at #16 in early 2016. Also arriving in the upper half are Lo & Leduc. The Swiss duo wrote history in Switzerland with the song “079” this year, as the track spent 21 consecutive weeks atop the official Swiss Singles Charts as the longest running number one single of all time. It also peaked at #2 on my charts earlier this year as their highest peaking track to date. Last week they finally chose its follow-up, and that’s “Im erschte Tram”, which debuts at #18.

There are a total of ten new entries in the Top40, and half of them debuted in the lower half. Noah Cyrus still is hit or miss, as her songs either become big hits on my charts (like the Platinum certified “Again” or the Gold certified “My Way”) or barely make it (like the #40 peaking “Stay Together” or the #38 peaking “Team”). It seems like her new single “Live Or Die” with boyfriend Lil Xan would be more in the second group, as it’s new at #23. Two legends debuted on the charts a week ago with the late Aretha Franklin and Cher, and this week it’s a third music legend who joins them, as Janet Jackson’s new single “Made For Now” comes in at #28. It’s only her third chart entry so far, following the number one hit “Feedback” (2008) and “Burnitup!” (#21 in 2015). It’s also just the second entry for Daddy Yankee following his featuring on Inna’s number one hit “More Than Friends” (2013). Liam Payne gets his sixth chart entry as a soloist with “First Time”, a duet with rapper French Montana (#34), tying Zayn as the One Directioner with most chart entries so far. Going by chart points, Liam is currently the most successful one, though nearly half of these points come from his Zedd collaboration “Get Low”. Niall Horan is close second with five chart entries, with all of them being absolutely solo. It’s a good week for Kehlani, as she’s not only featured on Cardi B’s new single, but also on “Body Count”, the very first chart notation for Jessie Reyez. The song also features former Fifth Harmony member Normani, who got her first chart entry as a soloist with “Love Lies” alongside Khalid earlier this week. Last but not least, the tenth and final arrival of the week is “Goodbye”, an all star collaboration by David Guetta, Jason DeRulo, Nicki Minaj and Willy William (#40).

Other talking points this week: Bebe Rexha’s “I’m A Mess” leaves the Top10 after an impressive ten-weeks-run (8-11). Aretha Franklin also leaves the part, as her “Respect” falls quite a lot as expected (4-17). Meanwhile, it looks like Cher may get her very first Top10 hit soon, as her ABBA cover “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” jumps 21-12. “Promises” by Calvin Harris & Sam Smith (26-22) and “Shotgun” by George Ezra (38-35), both being new entries from last week as well, also reach new peaks this time. Despite missing out the Top10, Demi Lovato still showed a strong chart performance with the ballad “Sober”, which even goes Gold this week as the first non Top10 song to do so this year (19-25). Vanessa Mai’s “Wir 2 immer 1” (6-7), Nicki Minaj’s “Bed” (22-31) and Evanescence’ “Hi-Lo” (37-32) are all certified with Gold as well.

Cher’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” is the biggest climber while Nicki Minaj’s “Chun-Li” is the biggest loser this week (16-33).

                                          • Album Top20

[spoiler:19wk9cvs]Even though Ariana definitely belongs to the biggest popstars at the moment and also is one of the most successful artists ever on my charts, her new album “Sweetener” follows the path of its predecessor “Dangerous Woman” and was only able to spend one week atop as it slips 1-2 this week. The singer was blocked by Vanessa Mai, who surprisingly gets back the top spot after being stuck at the runner-up slot for two weeks with her third album “Schlager”. It only becomes the second album this year with non-consecutive weeks atop the charts, following Auri’s self-titled album, which moved 1-2-1 in its first three weeks. In addition to that, “Schlager” makes history as the first album in German ever to spend multiple weeks at number one and Vanessa becomes only the second artist from Germany with multiple weeks on top, following Tokio Hotel, who spent two weeks at number one with their English-speaking “Kings Of Suburbia” back in 2014.

The highest of three new arrivals rounds out the Top3 this week, and that’s “Love Yourself: Answer” by K-Pop band BTS. It’s their very first appearance on the Album Top20 and immediately becomes the highest peaking album for a K-Pop act and just the fifth entry from that genre overall, following three chart entries by Taeyeon and one by Girls’ Generation. All their albums peaked in the Top10, with Taeyeon’s “My Voice” being the most successful to date with a #4 peak and seven weeks in the Top20.

Other new and re-entries this week: Jain’s second album “Souldier” arrives at #4, easily surpassing the #9 peak of her debut album “Zanaka” from 2016. Former One Directioner Liam Payne finally gets his first chart entry on the Album Charts, as the “First Time” EP debuts at #6. Interestingly, Harry Styles and Zayn also debuted and peaked at #6 with their solo debut albums, with only Niall peaking slightly higher with “Flicker” (#5) and Louis having yet to release an EP or an album. Finally, there’s also a re-entry at #15, as Cardi B’s “Invasion Of Privacy” returns to the Top20.

Other talking points this week: Years & Years’ “Palo Santo” leaves the upper half for its first time (8-11). Epica’s “Epica Vs. Attack On Titan Songs” (9-14) and Halestorm’s “Vicious” (10-16) are also falling down into the lower half of the charts, though both weren’t as successful as Years & Years’ album. Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” (12-13) and “My Everything” (17-17) both stay on the charts even a week after the new album release.

2 (NEW) BTS feat. Nicki Minaj – Idol

I've never paid much attention to BTS or mostly all k-pop music (apart from Gangnam style but that was unavoidable in 2012 ) so i checked this out as it was trending on YouTube. I thought these guys were so camp and flamboyant i was kinda loving it. The song itself is also good although i doubt it'll be this high in my chart tomorrow. I'm loving other songs a lot more atm.

3 (1) Ariana Grande – No Tears Left To Cry *P*

Wow, what a chart run. Shame there was that week at #12 as otherwise its been top 10 every other week which is incredible after 19 weeks. What's the longest a song has spent inside your top 10? No tears left to cry is surely a very strong contender for your #1 of the year.

                                            4 (2) Ariana Grande – God Is A Woman *G*

As much as i love No tears left to cry, i feel like my love for God is a woman is even greater. It's now had 5 weeks at #1 in my chart and 7 weeks so far in the top 2 which is testament to how much i adore this song. <3

5 (NEW) Nick Jonas & Robin Schulz – Right Now

This is ok, i've given it a couple of plays earlier in the week but not sure it'll be enough to secure a place in my top 20 tomorrow although if it keeps growing on me, there's every chance it could enter in the coming weeks.

                                            8 (5) Nicki Minaj – Ganja Burn

The music video was the main reason for this getting to #12 in my chart last week. It's definitely looking set for a second week inside my chart as i find the song quite captivating.

12 (21) Cher – Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)

I should love this yet for some reason i find the idea of Cher doing ABBA songs really uninspiring. I can understand recording a couple of tracks for the Mamma mia 2 ost but i feel like i just want to stick to the ABBA originals.

28 (NEW) Janet Jackson & Daddy Yankee – Made For Now

Nice to see Janet making an appearance. As soon as i checked this out i loved it from the first play and as a result, Janet stormed into my chart at #4 last weekend.

34 (NEW) Liam Payne & French Montana – First Time
40 (NEW) David Guetta & Jason DeRulo feat. Nicki Minaj & Willy William – Goodbye

These two songs really aren't very good are they? I'm not really sure what any of the artists involved were hoping to achieve. Liam is becoming more and more than american with each new single which ultimately is making him worse with each new release. Whereas David Guetta tends to be inconsistent but this Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli meets Sean Paul mash-up is really clunky.

Needless to say neither will be even remotely close to making my top 20.

Can't stand Lil Xan, even Charli XCX feature didn't save a song with him being around, so Noah is just wasting time on this.

Me neither, and i have to admit i don't really count PSY as a typical K-Pop artist. Last year was the first time i checked an album out from the K-Pop genre (from the singer Taeyeon, who is kinda huge over there) and i really enjoyed it, so since then BTS' album is 'already' the fifth i've heard in full. I'm also loving it - all the colours look amazing <3 And i can't help myself but their dancing is so sexy But i guess this means it will surely debut in your Top20? I'd love to see that

I know! I was just looking at its chartun earlier this week and thought why i let it fall down to #12 in that week! The record will most likely never ever be broken, as Ashley Tisdale's "Suddenly" spent 69 weeks in the Top10 back in 2008/2009. And yes, "No Tears" is a strong contender for the #1 this year, however, just that Ashley Tisdale is releasing a new album after nine years this Fall and so it could be likely seeing her slaying my charts soon so the race is still very open.

That's amazing! She really delivered two career-defining songs this year with "No Tears" and "God Is A Woman" IMO. As much as i love this, i still prefer "No Tears" though.

This is ok, i've given it a couple of plays earlier in the week but not sure it'll be enough to secure a place in my top 20 tomorrow although if it keeps growing on me, there's every chance it could enter in the coming weeks.
I keep my fingers crossed! This was such a nice surprise for me and could end up as my most favorite song by both artists so far

The music video was the main reason for this getting to #12 in my chart last week. It's definitely looking set for a second week inside my chart as i find the song quite captivating.
That's great considering Nicki doesn't have the strongest discography on your charts. It's a great song from a better-than-expected album, so i'm already excited to see which songs get released next.

I should love this yet for some reason i find the idea of Cher doing ABBA songs really uninspiring. I can understand recording a couple of tracks for the Mamma mia 2 ost but i feel like i just want to stick to the ABBA originals.
Aw... this is such a guilty pleasure for me at the moment However i agree with you, it surely is uninspiring, especially since she just released some tracks for that soundtrack.

Nice to see Janet making an appearance. As soon as i checked this out i loved it from the first play and as a result, Janet stormed into my chart at #4 last weekend.
I was kinda late with this which is why it only entered my charts this week but it's definitely another nice song by Janet and i hope it turns out as a nice success for her. Unfortunately, i feel like #28 will be its peak for now...

Well, yeah, kinda. I have to admit i think "First Time" isn't even that bad even though Liam has zero personality once again. And yes, David is so inconsistent and "Goodbye" is easily one of his weakest singles to date, but i still enjoyed it enough to let it debut at #40 last week... but it's likely to see it falling out next week. I can't believe they took the brilliant "Time To Say Goodbye" and made something like this :-?

Can't stand Lil Xan, even Charli XCX feature didn't save a song with him being around, so Noah is just wasting time on this.
I really can't judge on Lil Xan as this is the first time i've heard him on a song and i feel like he sounds like so many other 'rappers' these days. But overall i really have to say this isn't as good as some of Noah's previous singles and i don't see what she's seeing in him (he is her boyfriend...)

But I really enjoyed the two Charli releases this time, probably as much as never before, plus I forgot how good "Speak Now" and “Red” actually are
I've definitely been in that same situation with my bf's parents before I don't think a little quiet/peaceful time together is the worst thing either (it's not like you were deliberately ignoring her when she was trying to talk to you). It can get pretty annoying when someone feels the need to fill EVERY second of silence. Any rate - I'm glad that you fought through the fear/awkwardness and just dove right into conversations sometimes! I could learn a thing or two from you ;) I have a hard time picturing you ever being TOO talkative! Maybe what feels like "extreme" talking for you is actually perfectly pleasant/normal for the people listening to you?

That's some VERY encouraging news about Red especially! Did any certain tracks stand out/sound better than you remembered? I never actually added Number 1 Angel to my library (just "3AM (Pull Up)" and "ILY2"), but maybe I should bump that higher up my "to hear" list for when there's another new-album-release lull.

Dua Lipa being one of them as well… and most of them even delivered (for me, at least! )
No prob! Like you've said about making those discography screenshots for me, I enjoy looking up how acts have done on my chart (especially ones I hadn't thought about in a while, like Zara). Some of her certs are even higher now, since talking about her here prompted me to start spinning her stuff again! I was afraid you'd be more mad about how "Never Forget You" performed It's one of your absolute biggest chart hits ever, right?

Ha, yeah - those two ladies in particular jumped to mind because you'd asked about their history on my chart before (and they've both managed far fewer hits than Zara so far).

But “Beautiful Trauma” was the first time a full album of hers really got my whole attention and there were even some album tracks that I enjoyed a lot, while in the past not even all singles made a good impression for me.
Ah, so would you say that The Truth About Love didn't have much to offer beyond the singles (and even some of those weren't that impressive for you)?

As while “Reputation” still was a good album, it’s just not as good as the others, and it’s the same situation for “Sweetener” so far. It’s a good album for sure, but Ariana already has such a strong discography so it’s really difficult to keep up on that with every release. It seems like she’s already recording her next album and she even said there will only be one more single (most likely “Breathin”) so maybe we’ll already get a new album in 2019, which would make a lot of sense as I feel like “Sweetener” is ‘just’ something like a transition album.
I had no idea, but I certainly wouldn't mind that!

The opening so incredibly beautiful, the verses are catchy, the chorus is so strong, the video is a little masterpiece (IMO). She really delivered with that one and I wish this and “God Is A Woman” would be part of a slightly stronger album
Ha, that's some cute Tansike trivia! (Though now I'm picturing what you might wear for "pajamas"...)

I can see how it's a good selection for setting the right tone for the day right away (and just getting out of bed in the first place) "I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up, I'm lovin', I'm livin', I'm pickin' it up..."

Definitely a huge loss. I feel kinda bad for only discovering some songs from her now…
I've been in that same situation with other artists' compilation albums too (like ABBA, most recently). I might not have been able to name a ton of their songs off the top of my head, but once I heard the choruses again as I played through the album, they definitely rang some bells and I found myself singing along!

As you can see, Ariana wasn’t able to repeat the Top3 slayage from a few weeks ago and even though TLIC increased due to the album release boost, it’ll fall down a lot this week as I’ve started to really get over the song now
Aw, well, it did have a fairly-steady run inside your Top 20 for a while (especially for a song that most people, myself included, were pretty dismissive of when it first dropped. It feels kind of "fresh" for me now, since I wasn't really playing it at all between the time it came out and the album release, but you'd been hearing it pretty often during that whole stretch).

I haven't been paying much attention to her covers album The only Cher album in my collection is The Very Best Of Cher, which I bought on CD ages ago. Her "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" cover is cute, though! She puts her own stamp on it without straying too far from the original. I just gave her "SOS" cover a quick listen too, and I think I like her rendition of that one even more! I can't say exactly why, but "SOS" seems to suit her voice/style even better.

                                                    • Your new No. 1 is a VERY interesting blend I definitely wasn't expecting that shift from the one guy's very metal (throat-y?) vocals to her pretty-poppy parts, especially the first time she sings "365 in a day, that's how you know, it is hard to say no, before you learn to let go..." Props to them for creating such a fascinating fusion!
                                                    • Although "Idol" isn't clicking with me as much as some of the other K-Pop stuff I've heard in the past, BTS's success around the globe (especially in the US, which is often a ridiculously difficult market for foreign-language acts to crack) has been really wonderful to watch! I'm all for K-Pop getting more mainstream exposure/radio play/chart presence/etc.
                                                    • Poor Nick seems so lost ever since "Close" "Right Now" isn't doing much for me, but I'd love to see him score at least one more decent-sized hit on official charts...
                                                    • Exciting to see Janet collect her 3rd Top 30 hit here! I didn't realize "Feedback" made it all the way to No. 1 It's an epic track, no doubt about that, but I didn't think you were particularly interested in Janet in general.

Yet another chart that I can count on, Tansike!
