Bubbling Under

As usual, the Bubbling Under list contains album tracks by albums that do well on the Album Top20 and some singles that didn’t make it to the main charts. Less surprisingly, Nightwish also make a big impact on this list this week, as Music, the opener to Human. :||: Nature., re-enters the charts at #1. It gets joined by Shoemaker and Pan, both making re-entries at #5 and at #6.

Katy Perry is still doing fine, but this week with just two tracks as What Makes A Woman leaves the chart already (ex #5). Not The End Of The World (1-2) and Cry About It Later (2-3) are her entries, both only dipping one spot each.

Besides the three re-entries for Nightwish, there are also four debuts on the Bubbling Under chart with Paloma Faith owning the highest of those. The British songstress is finally back with a new song called Better Than This (#4). Fellow British singer-songwriter Birdy also announced her comeback with the track Open Your Heart (#9). Unfortunately, both fail to make the main charts so far and are surely under their previous charts performances at this point. Norwegian singer Aurora is new at #8 with The Secret Garden while fellow Norwegian musician Maria Mena joins her with You Live And You Learn at #10.

Kiesza’s Can’t Be Saved (4-7) completes the charts.

Wow, congrats to Halsey then! Well deserved, of course. Also nice to hear ROM has a shot for topping your Year-End Charts! Also same when it comes to the VMAs, haven't followed them in ages but I keep voting for Gaga in all categories on a daily basis lately and I really look forward to her performance. Especially because she will perform ROM together with Ariana!

Nice! You were a dutiful Little Monster I thought her VMAs performance was just going to be "Rain On Me" with Ari, so it was awesome to see her actually include several Chromatica tracks! She really delivered.

Congrats to a great #2 debut then! And "August" is a deserved #1, so if Ava didn't get the top debut, then she at least lost it against a good song by another great artist. YES finally her second Hot 100 entry. Shocking to think "So Am I" never entered the Hot 100 to be honest. Fingers crossed it goes even further. So happy for her success at the moment <3

Same! I could've sworn it at least reached somewhere in the 70's-80's range, but nope. Thankfully, K&Q finally broke her Hot 100 curse!

Last week was extremely busy and competitive, the #2 debut was surely fine especially as you say, she was up against Lindsey. Maybe I'm currently too biased with Lindsey, but it looks like she could release a fart as single and still is in the race for a #1 debut on My Charts with that Anyways, I'll post this week later today and there'll be a new #1

Where did it debut? "Midnight Sky" already sounded strong on the first spin but has grown on me even more through the week. What a strong single! And yes, I also hope another EP or full album is coming soon from her.

"Midnight Sky" debuted at No. 6 on my chart, then moved up to its peak (so far) of No. 4...then Katy's album bomb + the VMA effect shook things up a lot.

• Ava's really on a roll! I'm loving this latest preview track too, and although I'm a little sad about some of the songs she decided to leave off H&H, each new taste she gives us gets me more and more excited for the rest of the album.
• "Ice Cream" was pretty disappointing, though It's not totally terrible, but both BLACKPINK and Selena have done MUCH better before (granted, I guess that's often the case with much-hyped, big-name pop gal collaborations).
• Fabulous VMA rebound for "Rain On Me."
• OoOh, looks like both of Dua's current singles will end up with the same No. 5 peak here.
• Glad to see "Cry About It Later" among your Smile faves! I don't expect it to completely save this era on official charts/among the GP, but I'd still love for it to get a chance as a proper single. It's certainly more worthy than the title track.

I used to love Birdy, especially her last album, but this song doesn't really click with me yet. A shame, because I was really anticipating her comeback.

Haha, I usually never vote but somehow I thought Gaga finally deserved some recognition again. Same for the album, and I thought if she wins a few awards, she (or/and her team/label) may invest more into that era again, because it's been so quiet for the past months. #4 is still nice enough for someone who has been flopping/underperforming on the official charts lately.

Completely agreed on this. I'm still not over how they didn't include "Freaking Me Out", that's the biggest loss for me. But hey, every song has been good so far, so I really think she may deliver the best Pop album of the year later this week.

They also didn't meet my expectations So I agree with you when it comes to "Ice Cream". But the song still held up on my charts because it's been stuck in my head and has appeared so much even without listening to it, so that's at least some kind of a good sign...

Yes, the VMA really got me back into "Rain On Me"!

I think so, yeah. #5 are nice peaks, she's still kinda unlucky because following "Don't Start Now" & "Break My Heart", "Hallucinate" already seems to be her third single from the album that has to leave the charts while being not too far behind a Gold certification All have 210+ points (250 are needed for Gold).

Yes, "Cry About It Later" surely has the most potential for a hit on "Smile". I also hope they release it as a proper single.

Singles Top40

A new week, a new number one, and this time the race couldn’t have been clearer. Canada’s Drag Race has been a huge hit and a successful version of the original RuPaul’s Drag Race. The finale happened a week ago and as usual on the show, the finalists all wrote lyrics for and performed a remix of one of RuPaul’s song. Strangely, the track hasn’t been released on iTunes or streaming services so far, and since the song also wasn’t on YouTube yet by the time for last weeks charts, it makes a slightly delayed entry right at the top of the Singles Top40 this week. It’s called U Wear It Well and features the three Drag Queens Rita Baga, Scarlett BoBo and Priyanka, who ultimately won the show. This is already the second number one entry for one of those RuPaul remixes, as RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 5 already produced the hit Clapback featuring Jujubee, Miz Cracker & Shea Couleé (down 25-30 this week). 2020 seems to be a strong year for Drag Queens overall, as there still are further entries for Scarlett BoBo with Qu’est ce que **** (4-4), Shuga Cain’s Sweet Love (new at #25) and Jujubee & Blair St. Clair’s Tonight Or Forever (30-33). There’s one final entry for a Drag Queen, but more to that later on.

The Top3 gets completed by Ava Max’ OMG Whats Happening (1-2) and Clean Bandit, Mabel & 24kGoldn’s Tick Tock (2-3), both only dipping one spot each. Ava Max may have a shot of returning to the top next week, as she’s finally releasing her long awaited debut album this Friday.

Other new entries this week: Seven new arrivals found their way to the Singles Top40, so five more to go and first up is Romanian Dance-Pop queen Inna. The hit maker has teamed up with Colombian singer Farina on a new song called Read My Lips that debuts at #5 this week. While this is the first entry for Farina, it already becomes the 26th appearance for Inna and highest since No Help topped the charts exactly two years ago. Also making the Top10 is German Schlager-Pop princess Vanessa Mai, who put out the first single to her upcoming, yet untitled new album. The song is called Sommerwind and arrives at #7. This is already Vanessa’s tenth entry on the Singles Top40 and sixth to make the Top10, making her the most successful Schlager artist on the Singles Top40. And as if this wouldn’t be enough, there’s even a fourth new arrival in the Top10 with Marshmello & Demi Lovato’s OK Not To Be OK at #9. While the DJ and producer Marshmello already scored a Top10 hit with Be Kind with Halsey earlier this year (#5), Demi hasn’t reached that part of the charts since the chart topping Solo with Clean Bandit from two years ago - though she came close with Sober (2018, Gold) and I’m Ready (with Sam Smith, earlier this year), both having peaked at #11.

Two more new entries to go, and both of them also weren’t far below the Top10. Finnish singer, former X-Factor UK contestant and Eurovision entry Saara Aalto is back and coincidentally, she teamed up with Drag Race UK contestant Baga Chipz on her new single called When The Sun Goes Down. Saara has scored a huge hit with her Eurovision entry Monsters back in 2018, as the song not only topped the weekly chart, but even got certified with Platinum and ended the year as the #9 most successful song. Baga Chipz previously made the charts in Fall 2019 as part of the three finalists of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK on a remix of RuPaul’s To The Moon, so similar to the new entry at #1 this week, just a different country of Drag Race. That one debuted and peaked at #4. Last but not least is yet another collaboration that enters the charts at #15: David Guetta & Sia with Let’s Love. The French DJ and the Australian singer seem to be a collaboration made in heaven, as they already produced the hit singles Titanium (#1 in 2011, Gold), She Wolf (Falling To Pieces) (#1 in 2012) and Flames (#6 in 2018), making Let’s Love their fourth entry as a pair.

Other talking points this week: Three weeks until Amaranthe will finally release their new album Manifest, and it looks like they may have one of the biggest hits of 2020 in their hands, as Viral climbs back up 22-17. The songs’ follow-up single Strong performs less strong, already falling 14-22 in its fifth week. The VMA effect for Lady Gaga has ended and so it’s less surprising to see Rain On Me falling 9-18, though it’s surely a nice surprise to see Stupid Love holding up really well this week (29-28). Last but not least, even though How’s The Heart? is already about to leave the chart again (33-39), Nightwish are still doing fine with Noise (17-24) and even surpass the magical 1,000 chart points with that track this week. It’s already their second song doing so following Élan, the lead single to their previous album Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015).

Amaranthe’s Viral is the biggest climber this week while Katy Perry’s Harleys In Hawaii drops 19-34 as the biggest loser.

Album Top20

Spoiler!

A very quiet week on the Album Top20 this time, as there are no new arrivals at all and just two re-entries in the lower half of the charts. This made it easy for Nightwish to score a seventh week at number one with HUMAN. :||: NATURE. (1-1). The Finnish Symphonic Metal band ties Lady Gaga’s Chromatica for the longest running number one album of the year now and as if this wouldn’t be enough good news, the album also gets certified with 2x Platinum this week. The just mentioned Chromatica may take the crown as the longest running top album back soon though, as Lady Gaga rises 3-2 with it.

Katy Perry’s Smile dips 2-3 to complete the Top3.

Re-entries this week: No new entries, so this part of the write-up is rather short. Nightwish make another re-entry with their live album Showtime, Storytime at #11. The set has re-entered the charts a few times this year due to the hype of their current album and the fact that many YouTubers have started to react to some of the live videos from that live album, kinda giving it an unexpected hype on the video platform. The other re-entry goes to Medieval Folk band Blackmore’s Night, as their To The Moon And Back - 20 Years And Beyond is back at #15. The set has a very short lived run so far and returns to the charts as they announced their upcoming new album Nature’s Light for a release later this year.

Other talking points this week: Zella Day really pulls a Kiesza and jumps 10-5 with the Where Does The Devil Hide EP, really giving her a surprise success now. Speaking of Kiesza, the Canadian singer stays at #6 with Crave, so both of her albums peaked at #6 for two consecutive weeks now. Further shoutouts to Lauren Alaina’s Getting Over Him EP only dipping 9-10 and Jujubee’s Good Juju: Vol. 2 EP rising back up 18-16, making it the most successful album or EP by a Drag Queen this year now.

Bubbling Under

While the Singles Top40 has a few new arrivals on the charts, it’s the complete opposite on the Album Top20 with no new entries at all. The Bubbling Under chart is somewhere in between, with two new arrivals of two newly released singles that didn’t make it to the main chart and one re-entry from a successful album.

Less surprisingly, Nightwish still leads the list with the HUMAN. :||: NATURE. opener Music. Just like the album, Music also gets a seventh non-consecutive week at number one through that. Pan (6-2) and Shoemaker (5-3) even increase following last weeks re-entries, so the Symphonic Metal band owns the whole Top3 this week.

The re-entry belongs to Lady Gaga, who is Nightwish’s closest rival on the Album Top20 with Chromatica. 911 is rumored to become the albums third single soon and due to those rumors and due to Chromatica’s revival, 911 re-enters the Bubbling Under list at #5.

Next on the Album Top20 is Katy Perry’s Smile, that still has two entries on the Bubbling Under chart as well with Not The End Of The World (2-4) and Cry About It Later (3-7).

As mentioned, two new entries can be found on the chart and both are songs that were released this week but didn’t make it to the main chart. First is Icelandic band Of Monsters And Men with their new single Visitor at #6. It’s the lead single to their upcoming fourth album. The other new entry goes to Austrian singer and former Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst, who teamed up with Lou Asril on a new song called Lovemachine (#10).

Kiesza’s Can’t Be Saved (7-8) and Paloma Faith’s Better Than This (4-9) complete the Bubbling Under chart this week.

I'm glad you enjoy "Sommerwind" as well. It's probably better than everything from Vanessa's previous album (which was rather underwhelming for me).

But... no other new entry since July? Have you checked out Anna Bergendahl's latest single "Thelma And Louise" or Ulrikke's "What Would You Do For Love?" (Ulrikke would've represented Norway with "Attention" at the ESC this year), I think you may like those two.

Fewer than 20 songs from 2020 have made it to my chart, and half of those are from one album. Not sure if/when this is going to change.

But that's been the case for a while now, hasn't it? From what I remember, that was one of the reasons why you stopped compiling your weekly chart a while ago. Maybe it's just a phase. There have been phases when I couldn't enjoy music at all, but for me those phases change very quickly. But as we grow older, our interests also change, so who knows, maybe you're just in a phase in your life where you don't enjoy (new) music as much as some years ago.

Singles Top40

It was yet another huge week for RuPaul’s U Wear It Well featuring the Canadian Drag Queens Rita Baga, Scarlett BoBo and Priyanka, but the track still misses out to become the first song by a Drag Queen with multiple weeks atop the charts as it slips 1-2 due to an even bigger competition. There aren’t many singers who could have topped this track this week, but Lady Gaga being the one may be no surprise after all. The songstress finally chose the third single of her latest album Chromatica and since both - Stupid Love (out this week) and Rain On Me (18-29) - are currently two of the most successful songs of the year, it’s less surprising to see 911 immediately soaring to the top this week, especially since it was already a nice success on the Bubbling Under chart as a highlight of the album. Impressive: With 911 debuting atop the charts, Chromatica is already Gaga’s fourth album with three or more number one hits following The Fame Monster (Bad Romance, Telephone and Alejandro between 2009 - 2010), Born This Way (Born This Way, Judas and The Edge Of Glory in 2011), and ARTPOP (Applause, Venus and G.U.Y. between 2013 - 2014). Overall, 911 is already Lady Gaga’s 18th top hit out of 34 chart entries in total.

The Top3 gets completed by Ava Max, who has a huge impact on the Singles Top40 overall, as she finally put out her debut album Heaven & Hell this week. Alongside the album release, Naked was chosen as already the eighth single and debuts at #3 this week - actually being rather low, as the four previous singles Salt, Kings & Queens, Who’s Laughing Now and OMG What’s Happening all topped the charts for one or more weeks, while Alone, Pt. II with Alan Walker was another number one hit between those Heaven & Hell singles. The arrival at #3 for Naked is still good, obviously, and it’s not higher due to a very strong competition above her. Besides Naked, Ava has two further Top10 hits this week with OMG What’s Happening dipping 2-4 and Kings & Queens re-entering the charts at #10. Who’s Laughing Now jumps back up 21-13 and also gets certified with Gold, while Torn (#16) and Salt (#27) are two further re-entries for the singer, bringing the total of her chart entries to six this week.

Other new and re-entries this week: It’s been quite a while since Sam Smith has been preparing their third album, as it all started with the big hits Dancing With A Stranger (with Normani) and How Do You Sleep? in 2019. Especially the latter proved to be a success and scored Sam their first chart topper. Unfortunately, follow-up singles To Die For, I’m Ready with Demi Lovato and Oasis feat. Burna Boy were all really short lived, but it looks like Sam is back to their strength as their new single Diamonds immediately makes the Top10 this week at #9. They also finally announced a release date for their third album - now called Love Goes - for a late October release. Just missing out the Top10 is Norwegian hitmaker Kygo and his new Diva collaboration Hot Stuff. The song is obviously by the one and only Donna Summer and just like the songs with Whitney Houston and Tina Turner, Kygo uses a similar formula on his new version of the classic that is Hot Stuff. The new version debuts at #11, actually already being the highest peaking of those three remakes and the very first chart notation for Donna Summer. It’s also Kygo’s 20th chart entry to date. Justin Bieber keeps being hit or miss with his singles and this time, it looks like his new single Holy with Chance The Rapper may actually count towards the hits, as it debuts at #15 this week. Besides his work with Ariana Grande on Stuck With You (#8, such a high debut mostly only because of Ariana), he hasn’t peaked this high since Let Me Love You peaked at #3 four years ago.

Similar to Ava Max just much smaller, but Alicia Keys also benefits from the release of her new album Alicia. The R&B legend already scored two entries at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 with Time Machine and Underdog, with especially the latter having been a nice success for her compared to many singles she has released in the last few years. Both manage to come back now, with Underdog making its comeback at #17 and Time Machine being a re-entry at #24. Last but not least, Rachel Platten had two very successful eras with her two studio albums Wildfire (2016) and Waves (2017), but family has been much more important to her ever since and so she only scored one more entry following those two albums with You Belong in 2018 (#11). Two years later, she’s back with a new song that is called Soldiers but falls short by only making it to #37 this week.

Other talking points this week: Following its arrival last week, Vanessa Mai manages to climb up even higher with Sommerwind (7-5). This is a good sign, as her last album underperformed compared to the singer’s previous two efforts. Miley Cyrus’ Midnight Sky (6-12) and Anna Bergendahl’s Thelma And Louise (8-14) both leave the Top10 for their first time following a strong run up there. Unless both of them drop like stones next week, they both should end up with nice Year-End Charts positions. Talking about dropping like a stone, David Guetta & Sia’s Let’s Love (15-33), Dua Lipa & Co.’s Levitating (20-35) and Blackpink & Selena Gomez’ Ice Cream (13-36) all definitely belong to that category, as they all have huge drops this week. This comes as a huge shock especially for Ice Cream, that has been doing well for its first three weeks.

Ava Max’ Who’s Laughing Now is the biggest climber while Backpink & Selena Gomez’ Ice Cream is the biggest loser this week.

Album Top20

Ava Max finally released her long awaited debut album Heaven & Hell this week and as expected, the singer immediately scores her first chart topper on the Album Top20 with it, as it’s the highest new entry at #1. The set has already spawned a bunch of hit singles, including four number one tracks with Salt, Who’s Laughing Now, OMG What’s Happening and most notably with Kings & Queens, that is still in the run to become the most successful song of 2020. Besides those top hits, Heaven & Hell already produced the singles Sweet But Psycho and So Am I (both having peaked at #13), the Gold certified, #2 peaking Torn and the most recent Naked, that just debuts at #3 on the Singles Top40 this week. With a total of eight chart entries from one album, Heaven & Hell may already be seen as a very successful era so far even though the album just came out.

There’s a second new entry in the Top3, coming from R&B songstress Alicia Keys and her seventh studio album Alicia. The album starts at #3 as her third chart entry to date, following Girl On Fire (#3 in 2012) and Here (#9 in 2016). Nightwish’s HUMAN. :||: NATURE. dips 1-2 to complete the Top3.

Other new and re-entries this week: There are no further new arrivals besides Ava Max and Alicia Keys this week, but there’s one re-entry at the bottom of the charts. Similar to Blackmore’s Night’s To The Moon And Back... (15-14) last week, the band Auri also benefit from a new album announcement and re-enter the charts at #16 with their self-titled debut album that has been a big success back in 2018. Auri is a band formed by Nightwish mastermind Tuomas Holopainen, Nightwish musician Troy Donockley and Tuomas’ wife, the singer Johanna Kurkela.

Other talking points this week: Lady Gaga has finally chosen the third single of her album Chromatica, as she tops the Singles Top40 with 911 this week. The album still dips a little bit due to the new entries, but still holds well in its 17th charting week (2-4). Hurts’ Faith (4-5) and Pvris’ Use Me (8-7) both hold on really well in the upper half as well, even without support of a hit single. Meanwhile, besides HUMAN. :||: NATURE. still doing amazing and Auri getting a re-entry, Nightwish have even more reasons to celebrate as Showtime, Storytime makes an unexpected jump back into the Top10 this week (11-9). Violinist Lindsey Stirling leaves the upper half again with Artemis (7-11), but she may have sensed that as she just announced a video release for the next single called Til The Light Goes Out. So it’s expected to see the album being stable next week while she should have a big debut on the Singles Top40 with the track itself. Taylor Swift’s Folklore (9-13) and Lauren Alaina’s Getting Over Him EP (10-15) also leave the Top10. Last but not least, Dua Lipa’s Club Future Nostalgia recovers a little bit following a rather weak chartrun so far (19-17).

Bubbling Under

Ava Max’ release of her debut album Heaven & Hell obviously also has an impact on the Bubbling Under chart, and three songs that weren’t released as singles stood out the most and also very quickly. Born To The Night with its popular sample storms to the top very easily, being Ava’s first chart topper on this chart and one of many across all three charts. Album tracks Belladonna (#2) and Rumors (#3) make the Top3 complete. There may be even more entries from Heaven & Hell next week following its first full week after its release.

Three songs make the Bubbling Under chart that were new releases but missed out an entry on the Singles Top40. First is EDM-Duo Sofi Tukker, who teamed up with Novak and YAX.X on a song called Emergency. The song is new at #4. Former Spice Girl Melanie C is still preparing the release of her upcoming new album (release will be in October). While the first three singles all made the Top20 on the Singles Top40, Fearless with Nadia Rose falls short and has to settle down for a #6 debut on the Bubbling Under chart. Norwegian Pop singer Astrid S will also release an album next month and has a similar fate, as It’s Ok If You Forget Me also becomes her first single in a while to miss out an entry on the main chart and arrives at #8 on the Bubbling Under chart this week.

Nightwish are still charting with Music (1-5), Pan (2-7) and Shoemaker (3-9), while Katy Perry’s Not The End Of The World closes the Bubbling Under chart (4-10).

Hey! I hope you're (still) doing fine during those crazy times! It feels like the situation hasn't really changed in the US in the last few weeks. How's living for you these days?

COVID life is starting to feel more normal now (wearing a wask basically everywhere, keeping a distance from most people, etc), but there's still plenty of other craziness in the US lately (the wildfires in California - thankfully not too close to us - the looming election, etc). The bf and I found a new place that we'll move into next month, so that's provided an exciting distraction/source of hope while the world crumbles around us You and your loved ones all keeping healthy too?

Haha, I usually never vote but somehow I thought Gaga finally deserved some recognition again. Ha, well, I guess it was more of a Gaga/Chromatica effect than a full VMA effect Smile is...fine. Not terrible, not shocking/experimental, just kind of forgettable. Katy's usually so good at serving up pop that sticks in your head, but the first four Smile tracks are the only ones I kept re-visiting after the album's first week (and two of those had been released before the album anyway). I don't mind her sticking with upbeat pop, but most of Smile feels more bland than the upbeat pop she delivered pretty consistently for a decade+.

• Wow, I definitely expected an Ava track at No. 1 after the album release but "911" does have a more impressive video. It might be too soon to say, but would you have preferred Ava pushed a different album track than "Naked"? I'm really loving it, and it should debut at No. 1 on my chart this Friday. • I still need to check out Rachel's new song! She kind of fell off my radar in the years since Waves made a huge splash on my chart.
• Although Ava didn't collect another No. 1 single (yet), it's awesome to see Heaven & Hell instantly become her first No. 1 on the album chart! You'd asked about Smile earlier, and I think Heaven & Hell is a much stronger example of a "basic" upbeat pop/dance album.

Agreed. I'm expecting a similar situation like for "G.U.Y.", but fingers crossed "911" (or a possible single later in the era) may still take off. It would be sad if the era is already over, because there's so much more on "Chromatica" and the album deserves to be her biggest and most successful since "Born This Way" IMO (not counting ASIB). Aw, that kinda sums up my thoughts as well. I really enjoyed it at first, but I feel like I'm already over the album and don't think I'll get much back into it at this point. "Not The End Of The World" and "Cry About It Later" are my clear standouts, but still those are far away from her usual highlights on the albums. It's not a bad Pop album, but... it's also nothing too good, especially in a year that gave us Pop albums like "Chromatica", "Heaven & Hell", "Rare", "Manic" or "Future Nostalgia".

Haha, me too Going into this week, I was expecting Ava to make it to #1 on all three charts, especially because I also expected her to drop another video. Sadly, "Naked" is one of the weakest songs on the album (I still really like it, though) while "911" is such way too good (same for the #2, but that's less popular, of course). So it's not too soon for me to say that - she'd definitely be at #1 if "Born To The Night" or "Rumors" would have been the new single this week.

I'm low-key surprised "Torn" didn't do more for you, but I guess that was more because of how "weak" "So Am I" was as a direct follow-up to "Sweet But Psycho" and you had to get back into her at first - kinda like what happened to the GP, as "Torn" wasn't a big hit despite being so loved by the fandom, but Ava had to get back on track with "Salt" at first to really get more attention again.

Unfortunately, the same may be said about Rachel's new single. It's surely her weakest single since the big breakthrough with "Fight Song". It's cute, that's it. "Wildfire" and "Waves" are still among my most favorite Pop albums of the last few years though, so I'm happy to hear "Waves" did well for you!

Lindsey Stirling continues writing history, as the violinist scores her record-extending 22nd number one entry with Til The Light Goes Out this week. Til The Light Goes Out serves as the sixth single of her latest album Artemis and not only becomes her 22nd chart topping entry, but also her impressive 34th chart entry overall since debuting with the 4x Platinum certified Crystallize in early 2013. In addition to those already staggering stats, Til The Light Goes Out is already her eighth consecutive chart entry to directly debut atop the charts and Lindsey still has yet to release a single that fails to peak inside the Top5, making her a true charts beast. Surprisingly, Crystallize may be her biggest hit with 86 weeks spent on the Singles Top40, but it only peaked at #2. Her most successful number one hit remains Shatter Me feat. Lzzy Hale, that came out in the first half of 2014 as the second single of her second album with the same name and spent a still impressive 42 weeks on the singles charts. I Wonder As I Wander (2018), Artemis (2019) and Take Flight (2014) are next in line when it comes to Lindsey's most successful songs to date, while her collaboration with Otto Knows on Dying For You is her least successful chart entry so far (#2 and 5 weeks on the charts in 2016).

Swedish/Danish Heavy Metal band Amaranthe were Lindsey’s biggest competition this week, as they released the next single of their upcoming new album Manifest. The song is called Archangel and enters the charts at #2. It’s already the fourth chart entry for the album, making it Amaranthe’s first album ever to score this many chart entries on the Singles Top40 even though the album itself hasn’t been released yet. Their previous singles Strong (25-18) and Viral (26-21) both benefit from the new release as well and it’s expected to see some or all of them doing even better next week, as Manifest finally gets released on the 2nd October.

Lady Gaga’s 911 dips 1-3 due to the strong competition and completes the Top3.

Other new and re-entries this week: Swiss-Albanian rapper Loredana has announced her second album called Medusa for a release later this year. Its first single is called Checka, a collaboration with Delara, and immediately becomes Loredana’s highest charting track ever by arriving at #11 this week. It’s her fourth chart entry overall, with all of them having peaked inside the Top20. Zara Larsson also gets a Top20 entry this week, though as a re-entry at #13. The Swedish hitmaker has re-released her single Wow, that shortly made an appearance in early 2019 but left the Top40 rather quickly as it just came out during Eurovision craziness back then. The re-release includes a verse by Sabrina Carpenter, who had one of the biggest Pop hits in 2019 with In My Bed. Already the final new entry goes to OneRepublic, who debut at #27 with a soundtrack single called Wild Life.

Other talking points this week: Ava Max is still doing amazingly with her songs and still owns six chart entries even a week following the release of her debut album Heaven & Hell. Current single Naked still does the best, only dipping 3-4 this time, while OMG What’s Happening holds on in the Top10 as well (4-7). Her other entries are Kings & Queens (10-12), Who’s Laughing Now (13-19), Torn (16-22) and Salt (27-34). Speaking of album release effects, Country superstar Carrie Underwood just released her first Christmas album called My Gift and already scored a first entry from this with Let There Be Peace a few weeks ago. The song was just about to leave the Top40 last week, but surges back up 38-15 for a re-peak this time. In between all the usual ups and downs, Drag Queens Jujubee and Blair St. Clair rise back up 34-29 with Tonight Or Forever, that also gets certified with Gold this week. This is already the third Gold certified single by Drag Queen(s) in just a few weeks and even overall, as no other song by the queens went there previously. Even more impressively, Blair St. Clair owns two of them and is featured on this third one, making her the most successful Drag Queen on My Charts.

Carrie Underwood’s Let There Be Peace is the biggest climber while Justin Bieber & Chance The Rapper’s Holy drops 15-40 as the biggest loser this week.

No change atop the Album Top20, as Ava Max gets a second week very easily for her debut album Heaven & Hell. The singer is responsible for some of the biggest Pop hits of the last two years and since there’s also a lack of competition, it was safe for her to stay a second week atop - but she will face strong competition next week, as Amaranthe will release their long awaited new album Manifest. The band currently has three songs on the Singles Top40 and it will be interesting to see who of those two, if not even more, will finally take the top spot in a week.

Three new entries and one re-entry found their way to the Album Top20 this week, with one of the former having been Ava’s biggest competition - still, not really a competition, as Ava clearly took the lead. But coming in second is My Gift, Carrie Underwood’s first Christmas album and seventh studio album overall. There are still three more months to go until Christmas, but as every year, the first albums for the festive season already start to come out and Carrie is the first to reach the charts. My Gift becomes her fifth chart entry and also fifth to peak inside the Top3. Carrie’s fifth album Storyteller is by far her biggest success to date, having topped the charts for two weeks, spent 53 weeks in the Top20 and got certified with 2x Platinum.

Lady Gaga’s Chromatica rises back up 4-3 to complete the Top3.

Other new and re-entries this week: Melanie Martinez is back with an EP called After School and seems to continue her downward trend, as her debut album Cry Baby peaked at #2 in 2016, its follow-up K-12 peaked at #5 last year and the After School EP enters the charts at #6 now. K-Pop group SuperM own the third and final debut of the week, as their first full-length album Super One - The 1st Album arrives at #9. It’s their second entry overall, as they already peaked at #5 with SuperM - The 1st Mini Album a year ago, though it fell down to #16 in its second week and left the charts completely in its third week, so there’s at least some chance to see their debut album holding on better than that despite the lower chart entry. Last in the bunch is Canadian singer Jessie Reyez, who put out her debut album Before Love Came To Kill Us in early 2020 and following the release of a deluxe edition, the set returns to #14 this week.

Other talking points this week: With Gaga holding on well, Nightwish only dipping 2-4 with HUMAN. :||: NATURE., Lindsey Stirling rising back up 11-7 with Artemis and Ellie Goulding recovering 12-10 with Brightest Blue, four of the biggest albums of the year are currently in the Top10. A total of five albums have to leave the upper half from a week ago, with Katy Perry’s Smile (6-13) and Kiesza’s Crave (10-17) having the biggest declines. Especially the drop for Smile is shocking considering its strong start, but still not too surprising considering Katy has no hit on the charts at the moment.
