Nice to see the Eurovision slayage in March already, many songs are growing on me right now including Moldova & France.
Yay at Ava in your Top 3, think Ghost might be my favorite song from her now!
Just listened to 'Rodeo', it's cute on first listen but think I prefer 'Different Kinds of People'.

Bubbling Under
Spoiler! As if the Bubbling Under chart hasn’t been busy enough lately, it gets to a completely new level this week, as the full list is completely new and it still didn’t have enough space to let all new releases that were considered for the main chart appear.
The three biggest debuts on the Album Top20 are also responsible for the biggest debuts on the Bubbling Under chart, as some of their album tracks stood out a lot. Coming in atop is Say My Name, the opener to Leony’s debut album Somewhere In Between. Lana Del Rey debuts at #2 with Fishtail and at #5 with her album closer Taco Truck x VB. Finally, Time Wave has been a highlight on Babymetal’s The Other One and enters the chart at #3.
Ellie Goulding is still preparing the upcoming release of her new album Higher Than Heaven and while its lead single Easy Lover was a big hit for her in 2022, the other singles haven’t been all too successful so far - and now for the first time ever, one of her official singles even fails to enter the main chart, as By The End Of The Night settles down for the Bubbling Under chart at #4. Other new singles from this week were Chloë’s Body Do (#6), Demi Lovato’s Heart Attack (Rock Version) (#7), Jain’s Take A Chance (#8), Ed Sheeran’s Eyes Closed (#9) and Ciara’s Da Girls (#10). Ed Sheeran’s track is the lead single to his upcoming new album - (Subtract), so considering most of his proper singles have been big hits, this debut is also rather underwhelming.
Freya Riding’s Can I Jump? and Linkin Park’s Fighting Myself were also on the shortlist, but failed to make proper impacts.

Album Top20
Spoiler! With five new albums being released that all enter the Top10 and that are all by artists who already made some impacts previously, the album charts is rather busy this week and despite that, Renaissance Folk band Blackmore’s Night still remains in the lead with their 25th anniversary edition for Shadow Of The Moon. The album gets its third consecutive week atop, being the second longest running top album of the year and being just two weeks behind Ava Max’ Diamonds & Dancefloors (2-5) now.
The highest of all new entries comes in at #2 with Somewhere In Between, the debut album by Leony. The German singer has scored several big hits on the singles charts since having made her breakthrough with Faded Love nearly two years ago, including the two number one tracks Raindrops (alongside Katja Krasavice, certified with Platinum) and Remedy (certified with Gold). Somewhere In Between is obviously her first entry on the album charts and depending on the competition, there’s a big chance that it may also be a competitor for the top spot at some point.
Closing the Top3 at #3 is Lana Del Rey’s ninth studio album called Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. It’s also already her ninth chart entry since making her very first entry with the second album Born To Die in early 2012; her debut album never entered the chart, but the Paradise EP was an additional entry for her. Her first seven chart entries all peaked at either #1 or #2, but the eight album Blue Banisters failed to repeat that success and just made it to #8 in late 2021, so the debut for Did You Know… is a big improvement over this again.
Other new entries this week: J-Metal group Babymetal released their fourth album called The Other Side this week too and arrive at #4 with it. While their self-titled debut from 2014 never entered the chart, Metal Resistance reached #1 for two weeks in 2016 and Metal Galaxy peaked at #3 in 2019. This makes The Other One their third but lowest entry so far, though it’s worth a mention that Metal Galaxy actually debuted at #6 back then and improved to its peak in its second week. Exactly one year ago, current Nightwish frontwoman Floor Jansen debuted atop the Singles Top40 with Fire, her first proper solo single. Following a few more singles, her solo debut album Paragon finally saw the light of the day this week and enters the album charts at #7. This is probably somewhat of an underperformance, as all Nightwish associated artists and releases usually aim for the top spot, though it surprisingly fits in Floor’s case, as she also peaked at #7 with Northward in 2018, the self-titled album by a band she created while also being with Nightwish. The fifth and final debut belongs to US Electronic artist Owl City, who released his seventh studio album Coco Moon and debuts at #9 with it. It’s his first chart entry in nearly five years, when Cinematic peaked at #4 in mid 2018. Overall, Coco Moon is his eighth chart entry but first to peak lower than #4. His biggest success remains The Midsummer Station, having topped the chart for three weeks in 2012 and also being certified with Platinum.
Other talking points this week: For the first time in months, the Top10 has not even one album by Taylor Swift, as both, Folklore (7-11) and Midnights (9-12), are leaving them. Especially a big feature for the latter, as it leaves the upper half for its first time following an impressive run for 21 weeks.

Singles Top40
Spoiler! It’s been a week with many high profiled new releases, but with the Top40 being super competitive at the moment, only seven new songs enter the Singles Top40 and all other new tracks have to settle down for the Bubbling Under chart instead. One reason for its competitiveness is the early impact of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, where nearly a third of the whole Top40 is still coming from. The contest also already gets its third top hit, as following Alessandra’s Queen Of Kings (down 7-11, Norway) and Loreen’s Tattoo (2-4, Sweden), it’s IRU’s turn, as her Echo rises 3-1. It’s the tenth number one song of 2023 and second song from a Georgian artist to top the Top40 ever, following Sopho’s Visionary Dream, the country’s entry for Eurovision back in 2007.
The biggest competition comes from Leony, as the German singer just released her debut album called Somewhere In Between this week and to support that, she also chose its new single called Holding On. Leony has been scoring hits for just two years and with Holding On’s appearance at #2, she already collects her seventh Top10 entry in a row.
Ava Max’ Ghost declines 1-3 and completes the Top3.
Other new entries this week: There are three bigger debuts on the Album Top20 and coincidentally, these three are also responsible for the three highest new entries on the Singles Top40. Following Leony, Lana Del Rey is up next, as she finally released her new album called Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, where Candy Necklace with Jon Batiste serves as its new single and it makes it all the way to #5. This is a great showing for Lana, as it’s her highest peaking chart entry since White Dress also reached #5 two years and a week ago. Additionally, Candy Necklace is already the album’s third appearance, following the two #10 peaking title track and A&W. The other big new arrival goes to J-Metal band Babymetal, who are back with a new album called The Other One. The set already spawned a few singles including Light And Darkness, that benefits a lot from the album release and jumps all the way 31-9 for a completely new peak. It’s just one spot above the band’s new single Mirror Mirror at #10.
Hailee Steinfeld scored a nice summer hit with Coast last year and it seems like she wants to try it again, as her new single SunKissing definitely has a nice summer feeling to it as well and becomes her 12th chart entry ever at #13. Latin Pop stars Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro are both scoring hits all around the world and are also in a relationship. Since they both seem to have a similar musical background, they decided to release a collaboration called Beso that arrives at #19. German musicians Michael Schulte and R3hab teamed up on Waterfall (#26), while RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Bimini gets the seventh and final debut with Rodeo at #40.
Other Eurovision entries this week: Noa Kirel’s Unicorn (4-6, Israel) and Mae Muller’s I Wrote A Song (5-8, UK) hold up well in the Top10 and are still set for great results in the contest in May. Alika’s Bridges (10-14, Estonia) and Käärijä’s Cha Cha Cha (8-16, Finland) both leave the Top10, Pasha Parfeni’s Soarele si Luna reaches the Top20 for the first time (22-17, Moldova). La Zarra’s Évidemment (18-20, France) and Vesna’s My Sister’s Crown (19-21, Czechia) keep hanging around the Top20, Voyager’s Promise keeps reaching new peaks (34-28, Australia), while Andrew Lambrou’s Break A Broken Heart keeps falling down (25-33, Cyprus). Special shoutouts go to Keiino’s Alt Du Kan Se (11-18) and Patty Gurdy’s Melodies Of Hope (28-31).
Other talking points this week: Just one more thing worth a shoutout, as Zara Larsson’s may actually get a sleeper hit with her current single Can’t Tame Her on the official charts out there and the song also keeps climbing back here, up 33-29 this week.
Babymetal’s Light And Darkness is the biggest climber, while Melanie Martinez’ Death drops 20-36 as the biggest loser this week.

Impressive that you managed to keep a rotating crew of 30 all evenly-leveled! I think my stubborness with sticking to a core crew of six is a big part of why I don't enjoy modern Pokémon games as much (they definitely seem designed for us to rotate and experiment with a bigger squad).Yes, this week already looks better... still one big thing I need to deliver at work this week and I'm nowhere near to where I should be with it, but I'm sure I'll get there!
The thing with the rotating crew is that I can discover more Pokémon through this plus I get attached more to the world of Paldea. Instead of rushing through it, I stay at some places to level up my Pokémon and that's been super fun tbh.
I still think they need to install some sort of "reset" for gym / boss battles so there's a way of playing the whole game with a completely new team once you're finished without having to reset the whole game. That would be so much fun.
Originally posted by crystalphoenix View PostIt would've been nice to see some actual game footage, but the new DLC approach they started with SwSh does feel less predatory than the old "third versions" (which got us to buy basically the same game again 1-2 years after the initial paired versions, though I did like that 3rd versions gave me an opportunity to travel through the whole region again with a new team of six and some slight tweaks to the story/opponents The DLC's just feel like extra post-post game content, for better or worse). The third versions were more my thing, as I don't mind buying another game and playing through, but with SwSh I just didn't see the point of why to download that for a side storyline when I've stopped playing the main games a while ago. Overall I was slightly disappointed with the announcements on the Pokémon day, I expected more (for example also when it comes to older games being available on Switch...).
Originally posted by crystalphoenix View PostFor sure, and it's impressive that she's stayed relevant enough to be such a big touring force in 2023 (compared to other popstars who debuted in the late-90's and fizzled out before we even hit 2010). I just wish "Trustfall" was at least doing as well as "Walk Me Home" or "One Too Many" on the Hot 100 (since I like it so much better).
Ah, I can see that.... Trustfall at least seems to be a decent hit in some European countries. IMO Runaway would've been a better choice for the second single (also uptempo and IMO more modern & hit potential).
Originally posted by crystalphoenix View PostAh, if your brother was constantly blasting Funhouse, it makes sense that you wouldn't bother buying the album for yourself. (IIRC, he's straight, yeah)? Does that mean you did buy Loose?
Yep, I bought Loose back then and played it nonstop. Such a classic! Did you heard the album back then as well?

I mean there's so many crazy things going on in the US (as a big Drag Race fan I'm also super worried about all the Drag ban discussions) and yesterday I was just wondering how the heck is someone like Morgan Wallen this successful... have you heard something by him? Maybe his music is not all that bad... but the things he said & has done kinda make me want to ignore his music no matter what. Anyways, yes, Meghan is like so far away from being "bad" in that aspect. Even the opposite: It's always good to have fun pure Pop music back in the charts!

"Ghost" definitely deserves a proper video too, but at least she/her team are supporting the song in some way
- "Jaded" was my biggest ESV standout last week, but "River" might climb past it this week. "blowing bubbles in the bath, I can't stop from thinking lately, you could be the one, have the honor of my babies..."
- Wasn't expecting "Can't Tame Her" to start taking off ~2 months after it dropped (at least in the UK), but I'm rooting for it!
- Poor "Miracle"
Maybe Ellie can get back on track with "By The End Of The Night"
- Emails I Can’t Send has had a decent run on your Album Chart, but has "Nonsense" not charted at all?
Ah, love to hear that about River! I gave the album a few more chances lately... like, I really tried to spend some time with it as I was hoping for it to click more with me, it's Miley after all. But I just ended up realizing that besides the middle part with Handstand, River and Violet Chemistry, there's really nothing else that's truly above average for me on the album. It's my second least favorite album by hers, only above Breakout (though I haven't heard that one in years so if I ever check it out again, there's a chance ESV may end up being my least favorite).
Yes yes yes so happy to see Can't Tame Her becoming a sleeper hit. It's still not in the UK Spotify Top200 which is weird as it's doing well on every other platform, but fingers crossed it appears soon and also in some more countries. If something by Zara can be another hit for her, it's probably that one. She also does some promo performances in a few talk shows etc. so it's cool to see her being out there & trying it again.
I'm a bit worried when it comes to Ellie right now because I think By The End Of The Night is one of the dullest things she's ever done
Nope, Nonsense hasn't charted (yet). Emails I Can't Send is a perfect case of an album where I enjoy the songs in part of the album, but as stand alone tracks they don't have much replay value for me. But Nonsense seems to be taking off on the charts out there, so I may give it a proper ear.
Thank you

Originally posted by Tansike View PostHm, good point, that could be the case. Are you enjoying Miracle so far? I'm... not sure if I like it. I'm definitely disappointed because I Need Your Love & Outside were both awesome and among my faves by both of them.
Originally posted by Tansike View PostAgreed. Meghan is one of these artists that just get a shitstorm for existing. The song also doesn't do much for me but I still hope it becomes a hit just to shut her haters up- Ava owning 2023 so far

My Charts - week 11/2023 – 17 march 2023 - the Echo of a Ghost
.
Bubbling Under
Spoiler!Several new entries from a week ago showed great potential, but the main chart keeps being super competitive and some more new releases keep on coming out, so all of the eight new entries from last time are already falling out – plus, with Ava Max’ Ghost moving over to the main chart following a strong run, there’s just her Turn Off The Lights that survives the bloodbath that is this week (2-4).
With Eurovision taking over the main chart already now, some songs that could’ve debuted on the main chart rather easily settle down for the Bubbling Under chart now – including No Sleep, a collaboration by Regard and Ella Henderson. Both already scored some big (dance) hits in the last few years, so their collaboration was highly anticipated and debuts right at #1 on this list. It’s closely followed by The Grants at #2, a new taste of Lana Del Rey’s upcoming new album. This is also a shocking non entry for the main Top40. Romanian Dance-Pop queen usually gets high debuts on the main chart too, but her new track My Crystal Nails settles down for #6 on this list instead. Between all of these, there are two tracks from Blackmore’s Night’s currently reigning album Shadow Of The Moon, with Mond Tanz coming in at #3, and Writings On The Wall making its debut at #5.
Other debuts include Nico Santos’ Number 1 (#7), Astrid S’ **** Off (#8), Hozier’s Eat Your Song (#9) and Tori Kelly’s Missin U (#10).
Nine debuts but these were still not all new songs on the shortlist, as Lewis Capaldi’s How I’m Feeling Now plus Hozier’s other two tracks All Things End and Through Me (The Flood) fail to enter the list.

My Charts - week 11/2023 – 17 march 2023 - the Echo of a Ghost
.
Album Top20
Spoiler!Renaissance Folk band Blackmore’s Night spend a second week atop the album charts with their 25th anniversary edition of their debut album Shadow Of The Moon, joining Ava Max’ Diamonds & Dancefloors as the second album with multiple weeks at number one in 2023 now. And speaking of Ava, her current album rises back up 4-2, now that Ghost finally moves over to the main chart and makes an immediate big impact there. The Top3 gets completed by Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation, dipping 2-3.
New and re-entries this week: The highest of the new or re-entries is actually the latter, as Sabrina Carpenter released a deluxe version of last years Emails I Can’t Send, now called Emails I Can’t Send fwd:. This re-release lets the album re-enter the chart at #4, which is one spot higher than its original peak from last summer. This also means it ties the peak of Singular Act II now, her only other album entry from 2019. The only new entry is just one spot below at #5, where Aly & AJ’s new album With Love From comes in. It’s their fourth entry to date following the Ten Years EP (#10 in 2017), the Sanctuary EP (#5 in 2019), and the album A Touch Of The Beat… (#2 in 2021). The hype for Loreen’s Eurovision entry this year is huge and so it’s no surprise to see her debut album Heal finally making a comeback at #11. It charts for its 60th week now and with its 3x Platinum certification, it’s not only the most successful album coming from an Eurovision artist ever, but also among the most successful albums overall. Blackmore’s Night’s To The Moon And Back – 20 Years And Beyond also comes back once again at #18.
Other talking points this week: Rebecca Black’s Let Her Burn leaves the Top5 for its first time (3-6), but the singer’s debut has proven to be a surprisingly big success, now also being certified with Gold, getting her her very first certification ever. It was foreshadowed last week but actually happens now: With Folklore staying at #7 (7-7), it places above Taylor’s current album Midnights now (6-9). Finally, after being super stable in the lower half for over two months, Tarja’s Best Of: Living The Dream returns back to the Top10 (15-10).

My Charts - week 11/2023 – 17 march 2023 - the Echo of a Ghost
.
Singles Top40
Spoiler!Following the release of an official visualizer for Ghost, the track of Ava Max’ second album Diamonds & Dancefloors finally moves from the Bubbling Under chart to the main chart, where it immediately comes in on top. It’s already Ava’s 22nd chart entry since making her debut with Sweet But Psycho in late 2018, and also already her 11th number one track. Additionally, Ghost is already her third top hit in 2023 alone, where she remains the only artist with multiple number one songs so far.
The Eurovision takeover is in full effect and Loreen has been a huge competitor for a third week, though Tattoo ends up dipping 1-2. Another big threat was IRU’s Echo. Echo was recently revealed as the 37th and therefore final entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and will represent Georgia. IRU has already won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest a few years ago and is doing exceptionally well in the betting odds so far. With its arrival at #3, it immediately becomes the second highest peaking Georgian entry ever, only their very first Eurovision entry – Sopho’s Visionary Dream – peaked higher (#1 in 2007).
Other Eurovision entries this week: Noa Kirel’s Unicorn (3-4, Israel), Mae Muller’s I Wrote A Song (5-5, UK), Alessandra’s Queen Of Kings (4-7, Norway) and Käärijä’s Cha Cha Cha (2-8, Finland) all hold up well in the Top10, where Alessandra’s entry also gets certified with Gold as the very first certified Eurovision hit from 2023, and fourth song reaching the milestone this year overall. With Alika’s Bridges also jumping 18-10 (Estonia), there are seven Eurovision entries in the Top10 now. La Zarra reaches the Top20 for her first time with Évidemment (21-18, France), joining Vesna’s My Sister’s Crown (20-19, Czechia). Pasha Parfeni’s Soarele si Luna (29-22, Moldova) and Voyager’s Promise (37-34, Australia) also reach new peaks, while Andrew Lambrou’s Break A Broken Heart slips 22-25 (Cyprus). Also Eurovision related are Alt Du Kan Se, that leaves the Top10 for the first time following a strong run for Keiino (7-11), and Patty Gurdy’s Melodies Of Hope (25-28).
Other new and re-entries this week: Melanie Martinez is back with a new album, as the singer announced the upcoming release of Portals and starts it with the lead track Death. The song debuts at #20 as just her third entry so far, as she previously peaked at #2 with Pity Party in 2016 and at #31 with Copy Cat in 2020. Fellow American singer Bea Miller is not far behind, as her new track Jealous Of My Friends debuts at #23. It’s her fourth entry so far, where S.L.U.T. (#34 in 2018) and It’s Not U It’s Me (#17 in 2020) didn’t make too much noise, but The Baddest alongside K/DA, (G)I-dle, Wolftyla & League Of Legends was a massive hit in 2020 / 2021 (#1 and certified with Platinum). Swiss-Albanian singer Ilira owns the fifth and already final debut of the week, as her new single You arrives at #24. Another Heart (#4) and Clean Break (#1) were both big hits for her last year.
Other talking points this week: While the world keeps showing tons of love towards Flowers, it seems to be River that actually ends up as a good hit for Miley Cyrus on my charts, as the song rises 8-6 in its second week. It’s Miley’s highest peaking entry since Prisoner with Dua Lipa hit #4 in late 2020 and ties Slide Away (2019) as her third lowest peaking entry ever now. There are some more good news, as Back To You by Lost Frequencies, Elley Duhé and X Ambassadors (33-30) and 10:35 by Tiësto & Tate McRae (35-35) keep surviving at the bottom of the Top40, proving to be two of the biggest hits of the current time. Zara Larsson also recovers 38-33 with Can’t Tame Her.
Alika’s Bridges is the biggest climber, while Anne-Marie, Minnie & (G)I-dle’s Expectations drops 15-37 as the biggest loser this week.

Loreen is definitely coming strong this year and could snatch another Eurovision win. So, so exciting <3
Hm, good point, that could be the case. Are you enjoying Miracle so far? I'm... not sure if I like it. I'm definitely disappointed because I Need Your Love & Outside were both awesome and among my faves by both of them.
Agreed. Meghan is one of these artists that just get a shitstorm for existing. The song also doesn't do much for me but I still hope it becomes a hit just to shut her haters up
Not us "hating" on Miley!! Who would've seen that coming? IMO the album is slightly turning into a solid grower, but it's still definitely not as good as most of her previous albums. The A Star Is Born comparison makes totally sense here, because I felt the same during that era too (and I still think Shallow is... meh). But to be fair, there are currently a bunch of good new albums being released so I'm fine with Miley not being as good as I was hoping for, so there's more room for others
Yep, it was just a random single - no word on a new album or re-release of Denim & Rhinestones.
Thank you

So glad Loreen was chosen!
