It is, glad you're enjoying it as well! As for Amy, it's actually a best of with just two new songs, so not much new material. But I love it, it's good to have all of her hits on one record and I didn't play some of her older songs for a long time, so this best of was a good opportunity to get back into her stuff

              • "Super Queen" definitely isn't as fabulous as "Kitty Girl", but it's not awful. "Supernova" is good, though. I added it to my Spotify library. The other debuts in your top 5 are good. I was elated that Years & Years and MNEK teamed up! I don't think "365" is special, but it's cute.

"Last Hurrah" is a song I liked more than I thought I would. "Dumb Blonde" is meh. "Please Me" is forgettable.

Quite predictably, my favourite song on your chart, by some margin, is "God Is a Woman". Glad it's stuck around after all these months.

Glad you're enjoying "Last Hurrah" as well! It's another great pop song and I hope she keeps on doing these pure pop bops!
It is... though I don't like it as much as her previous albums. I probably need a few more spins

Thanks for checking a few songs out! I wasn't a fan of "Super Queen" at first. Actually, I was super disappointed, as I loved the remixes for "Kitty Girl" (AS3) and "American" (S10) so I was really looking forward to this and expected another dance banger / guilty pleasure. Thankfully, it turned out as a big grower for me, especially because of Monique Heart's parts. Love her voice <3

Very happy to hear this about "Supernova"! That's amazing news!!

Yeah, I know you are not Bebe's biggest fan, so good to hear you enjoy "Last Hurrah" more than expected. Unfortunately, I have to agree about "Please Me". Probably the first real big disappointment of the year?

Glad you're enjoying so many songs on the latest Top40!

Ah, no worries/no rush! I obviously love getting to know you better, but I don't want to pry TOO much either. I can totally understand/respect that people might want to keep UKMIX separate from their day-to-day life drama and enjoy this site as a fun, safe escape from those real-life headaches.

As you know (I guess?) my partner has an acapella band and he’s quite a big Pentatonix fan, so that’s probably one of the reasons why I got a little bit more into the band as of lately. Funny that you’re mentioning Glee as I was randomly watching a few videos about the show on YouTube over the weekend (like some ranking videos about the best performances and stuff like that). That was a hype that completely missed me back then, but it also wasn’t that popular over here while from what I remember it was HUGE in the US. As for the success, I feel like that’s also slowing down lately, I think they’re already past of their peak (it also doesn’t help they basically released or re-released a Christmas album for like five consecutive years now).
Ha, right, so I hope I wasn't coming across too harsh on acapella groups in my response to Pentatonix last week I don't think I've ever read much about how
Glee was received abroad (or if it was even aired all over the world), but a quick look at Wikipedia shows that their earlier albums did pretty well in the UK at least (with Platinum and Gold certs). A big part of the fun for me was watching the first season each week with friends back in college, so after we graduated and went our separate ways, my dedication/enjoyment dipped a lot and I stopped watching after the second season They came up with some pretty clever mash-ups and re-interpretations of classic songs, though.

You didn't join until 2010? That IS surprising! Were you deliberately refusing to use it for any reason, or was no one in your social circle using it either? I was pretty hooked on Facebook during college (constantly uploading pics), but lost a lot of interest after graduating.

Oh, I'd say it's definitely good! My CD collection isn't growing much any more, but there's still the option to buy physical copies if they really appeal to me (though some are digital-only now). The only real "down side" to steaming services is that I can feel a little overwhelmed with all the options sometimes, but I just need to remind myself that there's no rush/it's not a race (like recently, I deliberately waited an extra week to check out Avril's album so I could focus on Terror Jr/Allie X/Ari a little longer and give Meghan's EP a try). What makes you unsure about using streaming?

First, to be honest, her discography is already so strong, so it’s really tough to say which one is the best and worst. Second, it’s the most recent one (“Thank U, Next” is still too new IMO) so that usually gives it a bonus. Maybe I’ll think differently in a few years. I also need to revisit “Yours Truly” as I usually pay that one dust.
I totally hear you with struggling to say which is her best and worst, since it's a fairly close race between them all (which has helped her become one my most-played artists of the past 10 years). Her first three albums are all inside my Top 20 most-played-albums on last.fm (while her last two need some more time to catch up/compare). So you tend to give a bonus to an act's newest album? For me it seems to be the opposite (I feel like I'm often extra critical of their most recent offering, maybe just because I've had more time to grow attached to their older ones).

Looks like I don't have any of the Oh My My singles in my library The last song of theirs I added (before "Bones") was the remix of "I Lived."

                          Exactly! Well said.

I feel kinda sad these are the songs the public gets to know the most now, as she had so many gems in her discography yet it’s “7 Rings” or “Break Up…” that become her biggest hits?
Yeah. Like...I'm obviously glad that she's smashing this hard with something/anything, but I'm also shaking my head at people celebrating/worshipping these recent singles above SO many others in her (amazing) catalog. For me personally, she's done so much better before, but she's really on fire with the public right now, so congrats to her for that.

                          • Ah, both you and Akini are stanning pretty hard for Drag Race lately! I don't follow many competition shows (aside from Bake Off), but DR seems pretty entertaining, and I'm all for more positive (and popular) mainstream exposure for the LGBTQ community. I'd probably have more of an attachment to these songs if I actually watched the show and knew all the different queens, but the songs from it are usually a lot of fierce fun with a great sense of humor. The queens' confident energy is infectious!
                          • "365" has been a pretty big letdown for me, after loving a lot of Zedd's and especially Katy's stuff over the years. Props to Zedd for serving up something that doesn't sound at all like "Stay" or "The Middle," but the end result is just a tad dull to me. It also doesn't help that he dropped a song that seems more like a grower right when I'm flooded with so much amazing, instant material on other albums/EPs.
                          • I love that Years&Years teamed up with MNEK, but something's missing from "Valentino" that I can't quite put my finger on. It's upbeat, got a great guitar backing, and tells a wonderfully unambiguous gay love story...but I'm just not compelled to put it on repeat much, and idk why.
                          • I just added Head Above Water on Friday, so I'm still sorting through my feelings about all the new tracks, but the pre-chorus of "Dumb Blonde" has been standing out (in a good way): "I'm a babe, I'm a boss, and I'm making this munnaaayyyyy..." So catchy!
                          • I didn't watch the Grammys, but it was exciting to read about Kacey's huge success! She definitely pushes the boundaries/expectations of modern country music in some very endearing and entertaining ways, so it's great to see her contributions being recognized/honored. Golden Hour wasn't quite what I expected overall, since I've been drawn the most to her snarky up-tempos like "Follow Your Arrow" and "High Horse," but "Rainbow" is really lovely nevertheless.
                          • Of course, none of that matters as much as THAT TOP 5 DEBUT FOR TERROR JR'S ALBUM!!! I could really use the old UKMIX crying emoji right now, since I'm drowning in tears of joy...

                          Yet another superb chart, Tancel!

#2 sounds like a great debut on your charts. I really enjoy the new album as a whole, but it doesn't have strong standouts for me (yet).

Well, I’m always very open, especially to people I like/trust, and you’re one of them even though we only met online in our personal charts topics…

A big part of the fun for me was watching the first season each week with friends back in college, so after we graduated and went our separate ways, my dedication/enjoyment dipped a lot and I stopped watching after the second season They came up with some pretty clever mash-ups and re-interpretations of classic songs, though.
No, you didn’t They’re still far away from being one of my favorite artists as well, I just check them out more often than I’d do normally. Ah, sounds like a good success in the UK. I feel like these things (High School Musical being another similar thing) always do very well in English speaking territories such as US, UK or Australia/NZ, (mainland) Europe often aren’t the key markets. From what I’ve seen, it looked like a pretty well done series and covered many types of people (including gay storylines) so that a huge plus!

Yep. August 2010, as my ex partner motivated me to do so. You know, I was a huge introvert back then and didn’t have friends, so I kinda ignored it, didn’t need it and also avoided it because I knew I wouldn’t get many friends anyway (as it already was a ‘how many friends do you have? Oh, I have more!’-thing, if you know what I mean). I see, a lot of things changed for you once you graduated

Good to hear such a positive feedback!
Well, I used to buy so many physical CDs and my collection turned from awesome to okay over the years, and somehow this doesn’t make me happy. Two weeks ago I wanted to take a picture of all albums by Ariana Grande and noticed I never bought “Dangerous Woman”, that would’ve never happened until 2015. I used to have the whole album discographies of several artists and that’s not the case anymore. Also, I feel like I don’t enjoy music as much as I used to do, as there’s so much I want and can check out now for a low price, so the concentration on an album is much shorter these days than back then when I couldn’t afford to check everything out that I was interested in. These are the negative sides of streaming for me.

And yep, usually I love a current album so much that I’d rank it much higher than I would if I’d look at it from a neutral perspective. Of course it’s possible that I’ll still think that way in a few years and put “Sweetener” ahead of the others though. Your point makes sense, maybe I should do that as well, but I’m usually too biased to a current release…

Aw. Well, I was one of the few ones who liked it a lot. I’m surprised they never released a follow-up so far, also their singles were so random lately…

I already can see myself hearing some teens saying how awesome “7 Rings” or “Break Up” without knowing the real gems such as “The Way”, “One Last Time”, “Break Free” or others…

Yep. My favorite TV series by far at the moment. Love, love, love it! I remember that we talked about the show before and if I remember correctly, you said you also watched like one, two episodes a while ago, right? Yes, the connection with the queens and the show overall obviously helps a lot for the song, otherwise this wouldn’t be such a hit for me. And nice that you’re mentioning the confidence of the queens, as that’s the thing that impresses me the most… out of drag, a few of them are not that confident, but once in drag, they’re completely different.

Aw, sad to hear that about “365”. I immediately liked it on first listen, however, it’s obviously not the best for both, Zedd and Katy. It’s also having a rather weak start on the official charts so I wonder if this will be a grower for many or an underperformance/a flop. The best thing about it is that it’s good to have Katy back.

And again: Aw. “Valentino” was another instant hit for me, love it! I do like MNEK, but I feel like it could have been even better without him. A shame this is also flopping, even in the UK. Really makes me question a few things if this doesn’t even enter the Top100 while “If You’re Over Me” became a big hit…

Can’t wait to hear your feedback for Avril’s new album! It’s quite good as a whole but I didn’t find my highlights yet. It’s definitely not as good as her previous albums to me.

I also didn’t watch the Grammys (first time since five years I guess) but I was still happy with Kacey as the big winner of the night, though I was hoping for Brandi Carlile to be in her place. I still need to explore more of Kacey’s discography as I’m quite in the dark there except for “Golden Hour”.

<3 <3 <3 As I said in your topic, I’m really enjoying the album so thanks a lot for that discovery!

                                Thank you

That's a really interesting thing as "The Unforgiving" was my least favorite era by them so far

But that's the good thing in music. Everyone has their own taste and thoughts about the releases, that's what makes it interesting.

Exactly! So even if some viewers weren't impressed with their covers/re-interpretations, the show still offered a diverse cast of characters tackling a wide range of topical issues (with a healthy dose of humor sprinkled throughout too).

So true, which is just like what we were saying about Twitter/Instagram/etc the other week. There's so much emphasis on your number of followers (and doing whatever it takes to get as many as possible). These random strangers don't actually know/care about your life, and you don't actually know/care about theirs - the numbers are all that really matter. Damn, I sound so bitter I know that social media isn't all bad - it can be harmless fun, or a way to promote your business. I just resent the expectation that we should be/have to be using it (and we need to provide a VERY good reason if we don't).

I feel you regarding the urge to constantly move onto new albums one after another, but I think that comes from our own messed up mindset (and maybe a little peer pressure too). I have to remember to pace myself, and that I don't NEED to check out every album as soon as it drops. It'll still be available next week, or the week after. There's a lot that I enjoy about UKMIX, of course, but I think sites like this can fuel that "I must listen to and form an opinion about every new release ASAP" approach to music consumption. We become worried about "falling behind" or seeming "out-of-touch," instead of exploring music at a pace that actually feels right for ourselves.

Yeah, I've seen a few random episodes of the original, and then a few of the Thai version with my bf. Being in drag almost seems like becoming a superhero, since the transformation is SO empowering (especially for a group of people who are often beaten down, literally and figuratively...)

It’s also having a rather weak start on the official charts so I wonder if this will be a grower for many or an underperformance/a flop. The best thing about it is that it’s good to have Katy back.
Well, "365" has been stuck in my head lately and I've been warming up to it more than I expected, so I think I was a tad too harsh at first. I don't see it becoming one of my top Zedd or Katy faves, but it's not a total "pass" either.

**Nod** I was just saying in Jake's thread how Let Go is probably still my top pick when it comes to her albums. I've enjoyed at least portions of all of them since Let Go, but that one is still SO consistently enjoyable for me (with a couple of minor dips), even 16ish years later. Head Above Water certainly has some highlights, and it makes sense that she went in this direction after Avril Lavigne (on top of everything that she's been through personally since then), but some of the slower moments on HAW are pretty dull/forgettable compared to many of her older slower songs ("I'm With You," "Naked," "Why," "Nobody's Home," "Slipped Away," "Keep Holding On," "I Will Be," etc).

True. Shows like these became quite rare in my opinion yet they're the ones who would do so well on TV, as Glee showed. I love shows that cover up many storylines and themes. For example, I always wished there would have been a gay storyline in TBBT.

The bold part is a thing I've been discovering a lot lately. Sometimes I come across of profiles with TONS of followers, yet they have like one or two pictures and I'm asking myself - why? As for my own example, I kinda tried to see what's getting a good feedback also depending on the day and time I'm posting it, so I really stepped up my 'game' when it comes to instragram posts. I'm still not posting a lot (like once a week or so) but I got so many more likes for my posts this year, yet I still don't have many followers. So that's a phenomenon I'm really interested in...
Anyways, you're right. If someone doesn't have social media or isn't using it as much as 'normal', you have to explain why. That's actually a very shocking thing when you think about it, as this means social media is so important to like 90% of all people that it's expected to be used frequently.

That's true. I'm having a very weird relationship to music lately to be honest, and I'm not happy at all with that. I can't enjoy it as I did a few years ago. I guess me taking my own charts too serious may be a reason for that.

I completely get what you mean. Since "Thank U, Next" is out for a few weeks now, I really have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the era and it may end up as my least favorite era ever from her. Doesn't mean it's bad, I just enjoyed all other eras a lot more.

Being in drag almost seems like becoming a superhero, since the transformation is SO empowering (especially for a group of people who are often beaten down, literally and figuratively...)
Ah yes, now I remember you told me about the Thai version! True... I'm so obsessed with Drag Race at the moment, it's not healthy anymore

That are good news! So happy it grew on you. Yeah, it's obviously not one of Zedd's or Katy's best ones, but it's still quite enjoyable.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts about "Head Above Water" as well. But to be fair, I had similar thoughts about "Goodbye Lullaby" at first and in the end, I started to enjoy the ballads on there so maybe I'll think different on "Head Above Water" soon.

                                                  • This might be the most underwhelmed I've ever been by one of P!nk's lead singles.
                                                  • The REAL question about that concert, though: did their shirts (or more) ever come off??

                                                  Yet another legendary chart, Marsike!
Yes, Ariana and Kerli both have 16 #1s. I recently looked up who has the most #1s on My Charts and the artists with 10+ #1s are:

                                                  16 - Ariana Grande / Kerli
                                                  15 - Lady Gaga / Tarja
                                                  14 - Lindsey Stirling
                                                  13 - Miley Cyrus / Selena Gomez
                                                  12 - Lana Del Rey

All of them keep on releasing songs and will most likely release more songs in 2019, so it's currently very interesting at who as the most #1s here.

Agree about P!nk's new song. It's so weak and bland. I'm disappointed and not surprised if this will be her least successful lead single in ages.

Unlucky for you, Tyler always had his clothes on, but lucky for me, Josh was shirtless for half of the concert

                                                  Thank you

Is it just me, or does Ari seem to not be faring too well here with this new era?

Thanks for checking out "Legends". I can see what you mean with noisy

It's not just you. Even though she's still far away from flopping, this era seems to make the smallest impact on my charts since her debut. I do like it, but overall I'm not enjoying it as much as I was hoping for, especially after the strong "Sweetener" era.
