Oh, it's not flopping at all for his standards, as it already has double as many points as his second most successful album on my charts

It's a similar case with "Say Something" which is already by far his biggest hit here...

week 09/2018 – 1 march 2018 You Owe Me Mad Love

      • Singles Top40

While there were tons of new arrivals on the Singles Top40 last week, it’s slowing down a bit with eight new entries on the charts this time. That’s obviously still a big number, however, most of them appear quite low on the charts, while lots of last weeks new entries arrived in the upper half and some of them are having an amazing second week.

Nonetheless, the number one remains unchanged, with “Friends” by Mashmello and Anne-Marie being able to spend a second week atop the charts. It’s followed by Saara Aalto’s “Monsters”, which sits at number two for another week as well. Hailee Steinfeld & BloodPop climb back to their peak with “Capital Letters” (4-3), completing the Top3 this time.

The highest of the eight new entries just misses the Top10 and comes in at #11 and is the third of three possible ESC entries for Saara Aalto, called “Queens”. The second song “Domino” is falling 13-18 in its second week on the chart. Following three successful chart hits, Imagine Dragons already released a brand new song called “Next To Me”, which they added to their third album “Evolve”. It immediately becomes yet another Top20 hit for the band as it starts at #17. Completely new on my charts is Janelle Monáe. The critically acclaimed R&B singer is ready to release her third studio album soon, and “Make Me Feel” is the first track of it which becomes her charts debut as a lead artist at #28. Overall, it’s her second entry, as she was featured on Grimes’ “Venus Fly” in 2017, which debuted & peaked at #2 and got certified with Gold. Also making the Top30 is “Lullabye”, a collaboration by Sigala and Paloma Faith, which comes in at #30. It’s already their second collaboration following “Changing”, which reached #27 back in 2014.

Still four entries to go, and they’re all pretty low. Bea Miller gets her very first notation ever as the “Aurora” album release pushes the single “S.L.U.T.” onto the charts (#34), followed by “We’re Going Home” by Vance Joy (#35), which also benefits from an album release and becomes his second notation following “Riptide” (#14 in 2014). “Like I Do” by David Guetta, Martin Garrix & Brooks is new at #38 while Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Psycho” is the final arrival at #39. Post Malone had one of the biggest worldwide hits of last year with “Rockstar”, but “Psycho” is his first entry ever on my charts.

The rest of the best: Two of last weeks new entries make a big jump and reach the Top5. The first of them is “You Owe Me”, which becomes only the second Top10 hit ever for The Chainsmokers (19-4), following the Platinum certified Top3 hit “Don’t Let Me Down” (2016). Not only going by peak, but also by points this is already their second biggest hit on my charts now. The other climber is “Mad Love” by Sean Paul, David Guetta and Becky G (17-5). The rest of the Top10 remains quite stable, with “My Way” by One Bit & Noah Cyrus (3-6), “The Joke” by Brandi Carlile (5-7), “Lay You Down” by Nina Kraljic (8-8), “Sorry” by Halsey (6-9) and “We Are…” by Noah Cyrus & MØ (7-10).

“The Middle” by Zedd, Grey & Maren Morris (10-13) and Inna’s “Me Gusta” (9-20) are both leaving the Top20, the latter with a rather big drop. Meanwhile, Julia Michaels is about to get her first Top10 hit as a lead artist as her “Heaven” rises 14-12. There are a few more interesting things happening in the lower half of the Top40. “Again” by Noah Cyrus and XXXTENTACION has to leave the upper half for its very first time after an impressive 22 weeks as it falls 20-24. Madison Beer’s “Dead” recovers 36-27 after a harsh drop last week, while Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Happyland” (32-29) and Niall Horan’s “On The Loose” (38-33) both reach new peaks. Last but not least, there’s one new certification this time, and that one goes to “The Ghost And The Reaper” by The Dark Element, as it gets certified with Platinum as their second song to do so (24-25).

The Chainsmokers’ “You Owe Me” is the biggest climber while Inna’s “Me Gusta” is the biggest loser this week.

      • Album Top20

It’s not the most entertaining week on the album charts, as many albums remain quite stable. However, there were two new releases which made some impression, but not even they were strong enough to change the Top2. Brandi Carlile spends a second week atop the Album Top20 with “By The Way, I Forgive You”, which even increased its plays in the second week to another 100+ plays, while Ashley Tisdale remains at number two with the “Music Sessions, Vol. 1” EP.

The two new entries are both albums by artists who already released albums and/or EPs in the past, but none of them made it onto my charts, which means these new entries are their first notations ever. Former X-Factor contestant Bea Miller grabs the better debut with “Aurora” at #3, followed by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy who enters the charts at #4 with “Nation Of Two”.

The rest of the Top10: The Dark Element’s self-titled album goes down 3-5, Emmelie de Forest’s “History” slips 5-6, followed by Faun’s “XV – Best Of” (4-7), Rachel Platten’s “Waves” (8-8), Leaves’ Eyes’ “Across The Sea” (6-9) and First Aid Kit’s “Ruins” (9-10).

The soundtrack for ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ (10-11) and Felix Jaehn’s “I” (7-12) both leave the upper half. Meanwhile, there’s no re-entry for another week, which means the lower half of the charts also remains very stable once again. It’s worth a mention that P!nk spends her 20th consecutive week in the charts with “Beautiful Trauma” (19-17), even though only five of them were in the Top10, which is quite a remarkable feat.

the competition is so stiff and it seems like the general public already has already gone past this sound and genre in general

^ oh yeah, that genre isn‘t as popular as it was when he released „Riptide“, but i still think it‘s not one of the least popular genres. I guess he just needs a catchy, more generic song to get a hit again...

                • Hey Tansike

                  1 (1) Marshmello & Anne-Marie – Friends

A great #1 i really think FRIENDS could become Marshmello's most successful single to date. The music video to the track is amazing and really sells the song. It's currently #6 so could crack my top 5 tomorrow.

                  2 (2) Saara Aalto – Monsters

Aww Saara did take a tumble down my chart as i wasn't listening to Monsters as much. Domino was set to enter at #20 but then one particular new single came out last Friday and blew the entire chart out of the water.

4 (19) The Chainsmokers – You Owe Me

I was a bit unsure of this at first but the music video is actually pretty cool. I'm more shocked as the singer's vocals, i can't really explain it but his vocals sound so different compared to songs like Closer and Paris. It's like it's another guy doing all the vocals and this guy from The Chainsmokers is lip syncing.

11 (NEW) Saara Aalto – Queens

It's another great song from Saara and admittedly i think overall she's delivered 3/3 pure pop gems but for me Monsters is the best. If Finland opt for either this or Domino i'll be on board but admittedly disappointed that they didn't vote for the obvious hit.

                  14 (11) Leaves’ Eyes – Across The Sea *G*

Congrats on not coming last in FSC. I actually gave this 5 points as i liked the musicality and the female vocals. The man doing those growling bits hindered me from giving the song more points but overall i liked this. I also thought it was an average month and i wasn't that fussed with the australian winner.

16 (15) Sofi Tukker feat. NERVO, The Knocks & Alisa Ueno – Best Friend

Yay for stability even if it is starting to slip downwards. Still one of my favourites at the moment.

17 (NEW) Imagine Dragons – Next To Me

When this was announced my gut instinct was that it'd be very successful coming off the back of Thunder and Believer, two big hits for Imagine Dragons. But when i did check out Next to me i was kinda disappointed. Needless to say, this isn't even close to entering my chart tomorrow.

28 (NEW) Janelle Monáe – Make Me Feel

OMG this song is everything. I'm guessing you're not as hooked on Make me feel? I honestly can't fault this track, its just so powerful and amazing and i adore the Prince influences. I honestly don't know much about Janelle Monáe apart from she featured on fun. We are young which i loved from 2012.

30 (NEW) Sigala & Paloma Faith – Lullaby

This is looking set for a high entry in my chart although as much as i do love this new Sigala song, it's not quite as strong as Came here for love.

33 (38) Niall Horan – On The Loose

So nice to see my 'ickle Niall climbing up here. Its return to my top 20 was short lived but maybe if there's an official music video that could help boost the song back into my chart again. If the record label have any sense, they'll be filming the video for Seeing blind right now ready for its grand premier in a few weeks time.

38 (NEW) David Guetta, Martin Garrix & Brooks – Like I Do

Yes, this is so generic but i can't help but love it. It's all about Martin Garrix as the whole track sounds like his style. I don't even detect a hint of Guetta in this track so god knows why he's credited.

39 (NEW) Post Malone feat. Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho

Somewhat surprised as seeing this here. I've still not heard the entire track, just the iTunes preview and that failed to ignite me with any excitement. Just another US rapper doing well on Spotify.

                      Hey Jake

Glad you enjoy “Friends” that much as well, definitely an early highlight of 2018 and I’m also hoping for this to become his biggest single to date. I’m also rooting a lot for Anne-Marie at the moment, and I’m really excited for her upcoming debut album

Aww Saara did take a tumble down my chart as i wasn't listening to Monsters as much. Domino was set to enter at #20 but then one particular new single came out last Friday and blew the entire chart out of the water.
Aw. So I hope “Monsters” will make a nice comeback since it was chosen to represent Finland now. It’s definitely the best of the three songs, but the other two are nice as well. Can’t wait to see how she will do on the contest

YAS. Definitely my favorite video of the year so far! As for his voice, I already read that several times and I’m a bit surprised as for me it doesn’t sound that different to how it sounded on other songs, but to be fair I haven’t heard most of their other songs in ages so that may be why I don’t hear the difference. Anyways, I really enjoy his voice on “You Owe Me” and this is easily their second best track to date for me.

It's another great song from Saara and admittedly i think overall she's delivered 3/3 pure pop gems but for me Monsters is the best. If Finland opt for either this or Domino i'll be on board but admittedly disappointed that they didn't vote for the obvious hit.
Yeah! As I just wrote above I also feel “Monsters” is the best but all three tracks are really good.

Congrats on not coming last in FSC. I actually gave this 5 points as i liked the musicality and the female vocals. The man doing those growling bits hindered me from giving the song more points but overall i liked this. I also thought it was an average month and i wasn't that fussed with the australian winner.
Haha, thanks Also, big thanks for the 5 points, glad to hear you kinda enjoyed it. I think it was a little plus that the male vocals weren’t too present on this as they’re more in the background and the female voice is definitely the stronger/louder/more present one. Agree about the winner, it was one of the weakest entries for me, so I’m surprised. But it’s still not bad so…

Glad you’re still enjoying this so much! I also still like it and it’ll remain in the upper half this week as well, so its chartrun is already quite strong for a non-Top10 hit.

When this was announced my gut instinct was that it'd be very successful coming off the back of Thunder and Believer, two big hits for Imagine Dragons. But when i did check out Next to me i was kinda disappointed. Needless to say, this isn't even close to entering my chart tomorrow.
+1 This is far from the quality of the “Evolve” singles, which is really sad. I don’t see the point of this release as “Evolve” still has so many potential singles that could do well, plus “Whatever It Takes” is just taking off in the US…

I honestly can't fault this track, its just so powerful and amazing and i adore the Prince influences. I honestly don't know much about Janelle Monáe apart from she featured on fun. We are young which i loved from 2012.
I knew you would like the appearance for this here as I know it’s your #1 Anyways, yes and no on your question. While I’m not as hooked as some other members on the board, I’m still hooked enough and #28 is actually a great debut for Janelle as it’s the very first time she’s debuting with one of her own tracks. I never really bothered to check her out but I’ll definitely give the upcoming album a spin.

Its return to my top 20 was short lived but maybe if there's an official music video that could help boost the song back into my chart again. If the record label have any sense, they'll be filming the video for Seeing blind right now ready for its grand premier in a few weeks time.
“On The Loose” was already one of my faves back when the album came out and now I’m slowly getting back into it, so there’s a huge chance to see it reaching another new peak this week Completely agree about “Seeing Blind”. Hopefully they don’t waste its potential

Yes, this is so generic but i can't help but love it. It's all about Martin Garrix as the whole track sounds like his style. I don't even detect a hint of Guetta in this track so god knows why he's credited.
That’s a surprise! I think it’s not bad but also far from being very good. I much prefer “Mad Love” by Sean Paul, David Guetta and Becky G, which is probably the most similar new track out at the moment.

I think it’s not even that bad but it’s obviously WAY too underrated…

I think it's possible to get Hulu here as well, though not really legally… but glad to hear I'm not missing out too much. Unfortunately, there are only three seasons of 'Drag Race' available over here, and that are seasons 7 to 9. I've seen all of them at least two times and yesterday I re-started with season 7 again. It's hard to rank them, but seasons 7 and 9 are better than eight. It's definitely a very fun show to watch! As for your other question, I'm not into doing this at all, but my man would like to try it out one day, simply because he thinks doing make-up etc. is very interesting.
Guess we'll just have to wait for Gen VIII then Though I saw your comment about possibly re-watching the anime on Netflix, so maybe that'll make you want to dive into Yellow after all...? ;)

                          I hadn't been tracking the album's progress at all, but you're totally right! It's funny/impressive that it's managed to hold so steady while the singles are totally flopping Its run in the UK has been: *1* - 8 - 7 - 6 - 8 - 7 - 9 - 9 - 11 - 13 - 13 - 11 - 13 - 18 - 24 - ?

Yeah, Billboard counts an artist's guest appearances in their overall hit histories too, so I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority for being so harsh "Telephone" is a great example, since Beyoncé absolutely helps elevate that track (and that video too!)

There's just a lot of things happening right now and I barely have time just for me. Yesterday I even 'dumped' by man as I finally wanted some time for me, and usually Tuesday afternoon is our afternoon. I totally support taking some "me" time (especially when life starts feeling overwhelming.) Being an only child, I had a fair amount of time to myself as a kid, and I still find that really satisfying every so often (like going up to the city to just wander around at my own pace and play some Pokémon Go) ;) It sounds like taking a break from all that social media (and even your man for a bit) really did the trick for you, which is awesome! Where'd you go on that short trip?

Ah, so even lasting 3 weeks is more rare than I realized (and makes that nine weeks for "Break Free" look even more amazing!) That totally works for me, since I think high turnover makes charts even more fun to follow ;) It looks like every year since 2014 has included at least one hit with 5+ weeks on top, so I wonder what it might be for 2018...

Yeah, the fact that "The Middle" is out (and taking off) right now is the only explanation that makes any sense to me: not wanting Maren to have two poppier singles out at the same time/competing with each other (though they're still really different from each other...)

                          • I don't wanna get too greedy now - but could "Capital Letters" be on the verge of an even higher peak?
                          • I'd noticed comments about how Drew sounds quite different on "Sick Boy" and "You Owe Me", and he really does! I didn't mind him before (I was obsessed with "Closer", and enjoyed both "All We Know" + "Paris" a fair amount too), but it's impressive how he's managed to serve up such a different style and show that there's some unexpected versatility to his voice. (Well, unless those aren't actually his vocals...)
                          • I'd seen Janelle's name floating around for years, but it was only recently that I actually checked out any of her music after seeing "Cold War" atop Akini's chart. It made a solid first impression, but I've definitely been loving "Make Me Feel" even more! Somehow, that mouth/tongue-clicking background effect works brilliantly The video is such a visual treat too. It's unreal how she can look SO stunning in so many completely different styles! It seems to be successfully hooking people who hadn't previously paid much attention to Janelle (like myself), while still pleasing long-time fans (at least around UKMIX.) Now if only radio would get on board and spread the good word of Janelle even further! There's NO excuse for this song not to smash...
                          • Well, at least "Lullaby" managed to get Paloma back into the UK Top 40 It looks like you're feeling it less than "Guilty" and "Til I'm Done", though?

For me to play again? Well, the last Generation didn’t hold my interest for too long either, so I’m not too sure about that. But yeah, I only discovered Pokémon on Netflix now and already watched the first four episodes yesterday. Gosh, Caterpie’s scenes were sooooo cute! I think I may really start to play a game now soon, especially as my school is ending soon and I should have some more time again.

Oh well, as a singer he has to put on some make-up for video- or photoshootings, and sometimes also for performances, that’s why he’s used to put on some make-up. He never did it in a way Drag queens are doing it though, but he’s very interested in doing so. I’m not the biggest fan of make-up though, because I like it natural (and love his skin how it is).

That’s a fantastic run for an album without a hit single AND during Christmas season But I guess it looks like it’s falling a bit faster now compared to her previous albums, which isn’t the biggest surprise though. Hopefully one of the songs will get picked up by the public and becomes a hit for her…

Well, everyone should do it the way he or she thinks fits the best.

Where'd you go on that short trip?
Ah yeah, ‘me time’ is definitely underrated. Also, some stuff is taking much more time than I thought it would. Anyways, the short trip was one to Amsterdam, but with my partner, but that was one of the rare cases when we had more than just a day or so together, as it happened like 2-3 times we had a whole day together since October (with a whole day I mean waking up together and also going to bed together in the evening, plus spending the day together. I don’t see it as a whole day if I visit him in the morning and sleep at his place but woke up alone at my place, or if I spent a day at his place and go home alone in the evening. It’s just not the same). So while that trip wasn’t ‘me-time’ it still was fantastic, as I took some time off from everything else and had the opportunity to get a deeper connection to him.

It also showed me once again that I need to do way more trips as I LOVE to travel…

Thanks for the recap! Top10 is good enough, I guess. Of course it would be interesting to see how my ‘faves’ did but I wouldn’t even know what song I should ask the position for
Anyways, amazing Top10! I’m obviously VERY happy to see Rachel being there. I think I checked the #1 out when it was smashing on your charts but can’t remember it that well, so I need to listen to it again… its lead is very impressive though!
Also love the appearances for “Stay” and “Look What You Made Me Do”

                              If interested, here’s my Top10:

                              01. Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson – Symphony (686 pts)[/spoiler:33h4lr5h]

Only noticed now that there are quite a few mainstream songs / artists on there

That totally works for me, since I think high turnover makes charts even more fun to follow ;) It looks like every year since 2014 has included at least one hit with 5+ weeks on top, so I wonder what it might be for 2018...
Yes it is – and I’m also slightly surprised it didn’t happen more often. Guess checking out so much music also results in a high turnover at the top of my charts. But I agree with you that it’s more interesting and exciting that way. Will be interesting to see which song will do it this year (I think it’s pretty clear that there’ll be one doing it, otherwise I’d be shocked).

Yes – they are SO different and I don’t even see “Seeing Blind” as ‘too poppy’ or so, it actually fits very well to Maren. Also, it would be something else if Maren would be promoting her own new single or album but her album is already quite old and there’s no current single from her, so if there’s a time to have two featurings going on, it would be now.

Yes, he had “Monsters” on his chart as well. It just got revealed that Saara will represent Finland on the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with “Monsters” so I guess I just found my first favorite for that event  Glad to hear your first impression was pretty good

Yet another chart that I'd never put in the friend zone, Tansike!
Hmm… I’m afraid #3 will be its peak. Of course, never say never, but she won’t go higher this week and I already have two songs on my radar which may debut high next week so it will be very tough. Anyways, while I was jealous at you getting Carly Rae Jepsen as Katy’s opening act, the UK will get Hailee… while the rest of Europe seems to get Tove Styrke Damn. I was so excited when I read UK & Europe opening acts are Tove Styrke and Hailee and I thought I’d see Hailee and now it’s just Tove = Europe and Hailee = UK :x

I read this so many times but somehow I don’t hear such a difference in his voice But I guess that’s simply because I never got that much into their other songs and didn’t listen to them that often, except “Don’t Let Me Down” where he didn’t sing at all.

It’s the same with me when it comes Janelle. I knew who she was since her breakthrough, but never really checked her out. Funny thing is, I checked “Cold War” out when it came out a few years ago and my impression was solid, but not good enough to dive deeper into her discography. So “Make Me Feel” is her first entry as a lead artist on my charts and the upcoming album will be my first by her. Excited to hear it – and glad to hear you’re enjoying “Make Me Feel” as well

Yes, definitely. Paloma’s two singles are much better than “Guilty”. What’s your opinion on the song?

                              Thanks a lot <3

Glad you like that second week atop for "Friends". Definitely an early big highlight of 2018

I didn't realize Imagine Dragons released another single. I'll have to check this out now .
This was a rather uneventful release and i still don't see the point of it, as "Evolve" had some other songs left which deserved a proper release much more than this song. It's still nice and all.

Sad to see this pretty much on it's way out now. I feel like Iggy did an amazing job with this song.
It's definitely better than some of her other singles such as "Mo Bounce", "Switch" or even "Team" for me, but somehow it doesn't have that much replay value plus i keep on discovering songs which i like more which is why "Savior" is falling quite fast at the moment. Still deserves to be a hit for her though, she's way too underrated these days!

                                      week 10/2018 – 8 march 2018 first Eurovision #1 of 2018

                                      • Singles Top40

Saara did it! While it was already clear that the Finnish singer will represent her home country on this years Eurovision Song Contest, it wasn’t clear with which song, and the three tracks “Monsters”, “Domino” and “Queen” were all in the run to get picked. Last saturday, it was finally time for the Finnish people to choose their favorite and the uptempo song “Monsters” won their pre-selection. Due to that, it’s officially an ESC song and is not only the most successful entry from this year so far, but even becomes the first top hit from the contest as it rises 2-1 following two weeks behind “Friends” by Marshmello & Anne-Marie, which dips 1-2. It’s a fantastic week for Saara overall, as she collects a second Top10 hit with “Queens” (11-4) while “Domino” stabilizes after its drop a week ago (18-17).

After two very busy weeks, this time there are only three new arrivals and one re-entry, with each of them making the Top10, Top20, Top30 and Top40. Meghan Trainor owns the highest of these entries, as she arrives at #3 with her new single “No Excuses”, which serves as the lead single to her upcoming third studio album. It’s her third Top3 hit following “No” and “Me Too”, the first two singles of her last album “Thank You”. P!nk scores her third entry on the Singles Top40 from her latest album “Beautiful Trauma”, as “Whatever You Want” enters the charts at #15, becoming her fourth Top20 hit in a row and tenth chart entry overall. With this, it ties “The Truth About Love” as her album with most chart entries, though that one only got two Top10 hits with “Try” (#3) and “Just Give Me A Reason” (#9) plus a Top40 entry with “True Love” (#31). The third and final debut belongs to MNEK, who is new at #24 with “Tongue”. Surprisingly, it’s only his second entry ever following the 2x Platinum certified smash “Never Forget You” with Zara Larsson. The re-entry belongs to The Dark Element, as their “Dead To Me” is back at #33.

The rest of the best: Hailee Steinfeld & BloodPop’s “Capital Letters” is down 3-5, followed by The Chainsmokers’ “You Owe Me” (4-6) and “Mad Love” by Sean Paul, David Guetta & Becky G (5-7). Julia Michaels gets her second Top10 hit as “Heaven” rises 12-8, also becoming the third Top10 hit for the ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ soundtrack. Meanwhile, Brandi Carlile’s “The Joke” (7-9) and One Bit & Noah Cyrus’ “My Way” (6-10) fill out the Top10.

What else is happening on the Top40 this week? After five weeks, “Lay You Down” by Nina Kraljic (8-11) leaves the Top10 for its first time. Halsey’s “Sorry” (9-12) and Noah Cyrus’ “We Are…” (10-13) are also leaving the Top10. After leaving the upper half, Delta Goodrem’s “Think About You” makes a little leap back up the charts (21-18). Justin Timberlake may have scored hits after hits in the past years all over the world, but he had yet to do so on my charts, so it’s no surprise “Say Something” with Chris Stapleton is already his biggest hit, despite leaving the Top20 after five weeks now (19-22). Madison Beer is about to re-enter that part, as she rises 27-23 with “Dead”. Meanwhile, Niall Horan and Måns Zelmerlöw are reaching new peaks with their songs for another week, as “On The Loose” jumps 33-26 for Niall and “Happyland” is up 29-27 for Måns. Following three big hits, it’s quite a shock to see Imagine Dragons’ “Next To Me” already tumbling down 17-32.

Saara Aalto’s “Queen” and Niall Horan’s “On The Loose” share the title as the biggest climber, while Inna’s “Me Gusta” is the biggest loser for a second week (20-38), eventually becoming her least successful chart entry ever.

                                      • Album Top20

Similar to the Singles Top40, it’s also not the busiest week on the Album Top20, as only one new arrival made it onto the charts. Brandi Carlile spends a third week at number one with “By The Way, I Forgive You”, also getting a third week with 100 or more plays. Only a little bit over two months into the new year, there are now already two albums with more than two weeks atop, as “By The Way” follows “Sign Of The Dragonhead”, which topped the album charts for four weeks for Leaves Eyes’. The Dark Element’s self-titled album recovers 5-2, while Ashley Tisdale’s “Music Sessions” EP dips 2-3, completing the Top3.

The mentioned new entry is by Finnish singer Alma, who debuts at #5 with her “Heavy Rules Mixtape” EP. It’s her first notation on the album charts, which probably comes as a surprise as she has yet to get an entry on the singles charts as a lead artist, as her only entries so far are her featurings on Felix Jaehn’s “Bonfire” (#26 in 2016) and on Charli XCX’ “Out Of My Head” (#14 in 2017). There’s also another entry which makes a big impression on this weeks album charts, and that’s Madison Beer’s “As She Pleases”. The set arrived at number two four weeks ago, but has started to drop rather fast afterwards. This week, the mini album jumps back up 13-4 for a third week in the upper half.

The rest of the Top10: Bea Miller’s “Aurora” (3-6) and Vance Joy’s “Nation Of Two” (4-7) both lose three spots, Emmelie De Forest’s “History” is down 6-8, Rachel Platten’s “Waves” slips 8-9 and Faun’s “XV – Best Of” falls 7-10.

In their seventh charting week, First Aid Kit leave the Top10 for the first time with “Ruins” (10-11), but it goes Gold this week as their second album to do so. Leaves’ Eyes’ “Sign Of The Dragonhead” also leaves the upper half (9-12). Following the new single release, P!nk’s “Beautiful Trauma” recovers 17-13. Meanwhile, despite the ongoing success for “Capital Letters” and “Heaven”, the Soundtrack for ‘Fifty Shades Freed” drops 11-19 in its fourth week. Last but not least, there are two rather surprising and unexpected re-entries on the charts. The first one is Britney Spears’ “Britney Jean” at #15. Originally released in 2013, the album got certified with Gold in the US last week. A simple headline like this made me listening to “Britney Jean” a lot, which is why such an old album is able to re-enter. The other comeback does “Now” by Shania Twain, which came out last year. It’s back at #16 following its ongoing Survivor on UKMix.

She really did last week - i simply loved her ESC tracks! Though it seems i'm getting faster over them than expected...

But yeah, I only discovered Pokémon on Netflix now and already watched the first four episodes yesterday. Gosh, Caterpie's scenes were sooooo cute! I think I may really start to play a game now soon, especially as my school is ending soon and I should have some more time again.

Oh well, as a singer he has to put on some make-up for video- or photoshootings, and sometimes also for performances, that's why he's used to put on some make-up. He never did it in a way Drag queens are doing it though, but he's very interested in doing so. I'm not the biggest fan of make-up though, because I like it natural (and love his skin how it is).
Good times Have you watched any more since then? What are some of your favorite episodes from the early seasons?

Hopefully one of the songs will get picked up by the public and becomes a hit for her…
Although it's not actually on her album, "Lullaby" might still be helping a bit in terms of general exposure for her, since The Architect rebounded from No. 24 ---> No. 17 on the latest UK album chart. It's gone Gold there, which is low for her standards, but not so bad for an album whose biggest hit peaked at No. 36.

I don't see it as a whole day if I visit him in the morning and sleep at his place but woke up alone at my place, or if I spent a day at his place and go home alone in the evening. It's just not the same). So while that trip wasn't 'me-time' it still was fantastic, as I took some time off from everything else and had the opportunity to get a deeper connection to him. It also showed me once again that I need to do way more trips as I LOVE to travel…

Kidding aside, that Amsterdam trip sounds delightful! What kinds of things did you see/do? I went once with my parents when I was young (maybe 9-10 years old?), but I'd love to revisit it as an adult at some point! Huge "YES" to loving travel (but not doing enough of it) - I'm definitely in the same boat. Nearly all of my trips over the past few years have been either for a wedding or to visit family for the holidays. I haven't taken a proper vacation - specifically to explore somewhere new - in far too long!

Aw, no need for any " " about loving some mainstream stuff ;) I'm in NO position to judge about that! Besides, about half of those songs weren't big official chart hits anyway, so you've got a nice mix of recognizable hits and more personal/lesser-known selections. I'd forgotten that "Shape Of You" had done THAT well on your chart!

Also, it would be something else if Maren would be promoting her own new single or album but her album is already quite old and there's no current single from her, so if there's a time to have two featurings going on, it would be now.
**Nod** Yeah, if that really is the reason why they're holding off on "Seeing Blind" for now, it seems overly/needlessly cautious of them. I'm also worried that making "Seeing Blind" the 5th single might be too little too late if "On The Loose" under-performs the way "Too Much To Ask" did...

Of course, never say never, but she won't go higher this week and I already have two songs on my radar which may debut high next week so it will be very tough. Anyways, while I was jealous at you getting Carly Rae Jepsen as Katy's opening act, the UK will get Hailee… while the rest of Europe seems to get Tove Styrke Damn. I was so excited when I read UK & Europe opening acts are Tove Styrke and Hailee and I thought I'd see Hailee and now it's just Tove = Europe and Hailee = UK :x
Damn! Bummer about Hailee being UK-only, but no need for jealousy, since Katy's opening act when I went was actually this random duo called Purity Ring. They weren't terrible (though the singer was pretty hard to hear/understand), but it looks like neither of us will get to enjoy the top-notch openers, sadly.

Funny thing is, I checked "Cold War" out when it came out a few years ago and my impression was solid, but not good enough to dive deeper into her discography. So "Make Me Feel" is her first entry as a lead artist on my charts and the upcoming album will be my first by her. Excited to hear it - and glad to hear you're enjoying "Make Me Feel" as well

I like it, but it's not quite strong enough to stand out from all the other stuff I've been checking out lately. Apple Music has definitely made my chart more competitive, since I'm able to check out full albums so easily (and any album track is allowed to chart.) If it hadn't been so easy to check out CHVRCHES's last album on a whim after I checked out (and loved) "Get Out," "Lullaby" might be doing better now.

That Top 3 debut for "No Excuses" is a really pleasant surprise! I wasn't sure how she'd try to follow-up the under-performing Thank You era, but I'm pretty satisfied with this offering! Unfortunately, it looks like it's continuing her downward trend on official charts Maybe it'll get slapped with the "buzz single" label and she'll try again later this year...
                                              • Aw, well, you did warn me about "Capital Letters"s low chance of re-peaking - but at least it's been holding pretty steady inside your Top 5! It's hanging on better than some of your recent No. 1's, actually!
                                              • "Whatever You Want" getting announced as P!nk's next single was definitely a shocker I'm glad they finally decided on SOMETHING after scrapping "Revenge," not doing much with the title track besides a video, and then releasing a random video for "Wild Hearts..." after the Grammy performance - but WYW wouldn't have been one my top contenders. Maybe P!nk pushed for it herself?
                                              • Lovin' that little rebound for "Think About You."

I think I’m on Episode 12 or 13 now. Not sure which one exactly. Anyways, since there are only 50 episodes on Netflix, I won’t even see the whole first season (or better said the whole adventure of Kanto) which is very sad
Meanwhile, I also downloaded Yellow and also started playing it. I just beat Brock last night… gosh, I forgot how hard it is against him which Pikachu as a starter and the Pokémon which were available to catch until then. Thank god for Butterfree <3

Well he loves to try things out anyway. For example, he currently has blue hair, so he’s definitely not afraid of things like these, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s going full Drag one day just to try it out I wouldn’t know what to think about it though, I mean, I’m into men after all But it would be fun for once!

I saw that rebound too and was pleased she’s climbing again, but I guess the sales aren’t much better… but yeah, “Lullaby” most likely helps the album. The album is already quite near to Platinum iirc, which is an amazing feat since as you mention it has no hit single at all

We went to see a museum, lots of the city, lots of little shops & restaurants… and… spent a lot of time in the hotel room The coolest thing there is definitely that you can rent a bike for the whole day and drive through the city with it, so fun!
What’s also important is… I guess you know what Amsterdam is also popular for? You can smell that everywhere, especially in the ‘core’ of the town and if you’re not into it, then I’m not 100% sure if you will like it because you get confronted by it everywhere

Oh, so go book something now!!

                                                Glad you’re thinking that way!
Oh, I forgot about it too somehow I mean, I knew I loved it, but it didn’t have the best longevity and I got over it rather quickly (especially compared to most people in the world as it seemed) but it still got so many points at the beginning of the year that it stayed so high on the list through the year

I'm also worried that making "Seeing Blind" the 5th single might be too little too late if "On The Loose" under-performs the way "Too Much To Ask" did...
Agree. But it would be another picture if “On The Loose” becomes a surprise hit, so that would actually mean the chances are big for another single & that it could do well too. However, as much as I enjoy “On The Loose”, I would be very surprised it it becomes a hit… so I wouldn’t place my bet on a single treatment for “Seeing Blind”, sadly.

There’s another artist who has an obvious single on the album – Halsey with “Strangers”. But she’s going with other picks and now she just announced the next single with “Alone”, but she’s going to release a new version with Stefflon Don & Big Sean on it. I like the song but damn I hate it when artists don’t release the obvious stuff. Another artist would be Katy Perry with “Roulette” (on “Witness”) or “Legendary Lover”/”Walking On Air” (on “Prism”) :x

What? Oh my bad. I really thought it was Carly Rae Jepsen So we both are/were really unlucky there!
Though I’m not sure anymore if I’m going to see Katy as my man is having a release party on the same date for his bands upcoming new EP But I guess I’ll skip that one as I already paid for Katy & won’t get my tickets before the concert, so I have to pick them up there and can’t sell them before the concert.

Opps! I obviously meant I prefer the two singles to “Lullaby”, not “Guilty”, but it looks like you got what I meant
Well, I think there’s worse than “Lullabye” not becoming a hit on your charts…

                                                • I can't believe they re-issued Evolve for something as underwhelming/uneventful as "Next To Me" (and nothing else!) :x

                                                Yet another beastly chart, Tansike!
Glad to hear you’re liking that debut for “No Excuses”! I think it’s sad how Spotify pays her dust and doesn’t support her, most likely due to her Apple Music connections. It’s another great song from her and I think she did a great job with following-up “Thank You”. It’s typical Meghan on one side, but also something ‘new’ on the other.

True! It’s definitely shaping up to be a big hit and so far it’s also definitely a highlight of 2018

Agreed. I’m still team “Where We Go”, and while I enjoy “Whatever You Want” a lot as well, there are still some other tracks which would have been better choices. It’s quite sad how this era turned into a ‘mess’ after the success of “What About Us”, and the album deserves much more!

                                                Probably already the last rebound…

I know, right?! “Next To Me” is nice but sooo much weaker than many songs on “Evolve”. Don’t see the point of that release at all…

                                                Thanks a lot

week 11/2018 – 15 march 2018 The Space Between Decades

                                                  • Singles Top40

It’s a busy week with 11 new entries, and four of them even made the Top10, so there’s a lot going on in the Top40. The Top2 is completely new and both artists already collected a top hit earlier this year, so it’s not a big surprise to see them both having such a high entry on this weeks chart. Auri, the new project by Nightwish musicians Tuomas Holopainen & Troy Donockley and the Finnish singer Johanna Kurkela, grabs the top spot with their second single “The Space Between”. It’s the follow-up to “Night 13”, which had a brilliant start a few weeks ago as it got played 115 times in its debut week, though it showed a rather short impact as it’s already leaving the charts this week after just six weeks. Within Temptation frontwoman Sharon den Adel owns the debut at number two, as “Crash And Burn” was released as the new single from her project called My Indigo, which becomes her third arrival following “My Indigo” (#2, Gold) and “Out Of The Darkness” (#1, Gold). Both albums will be released soon, with Auri’s “Auri” coming out on the 23rd March, and My Indigo’s “My Indigo” on the 20th April.

Taylor Swift is back! After a more underwhelming success for the promo singles “Gorgeous” (#12) and “Call It What You Want” (#28) and the underperformance for “End Game” (#10), the singer has finally chosen one of the fan favorites as the next single of “Reputation”, and so it’s no surprise to see “Delicate” becoming a Top5 hit right from the start, as it arrives at #4. It’s still unclear if it follows the same path as “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready For It?”, which both topped the weekly charts for one week last year. The fourth new entry in the Top10 is “079” by Swiss hip hop duo Lo & Leduc. With its debut at #8 it immediately ties “Jung verdammt” as their highest peaking entry so far, as that track made it to #8 back in 2015. It’s likely to become their very first number one hit in Switzerland next week.

Shania Twain gets a late entry for “We Got Something They Don’t” at #15, the fourth entry of her comeback album “Now”. Also scoring a fourth chart entry are Years & Years, as they return with “Sanctify” (#18). Both, Shania and Years & Years, have three Top20 hits including one Top10 entry, which is certified with Gold. The first American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson already collected many more hits, though the new single “I Don’t Think About You” has a rather weak start at #27. There are still four more entries, and all of them are quite near to the bottom of the Top40: James Bay’s “Pink Lemonade” debuts at #36, John Newman’s “Fire In Me” is new at #37, Jessica Mauboy’s “We Got Love” arrives at #39 and Jason DeRulo’s “Colors” enters the chart at #40. The most interesting of these new arrivals is the one by Jessica Mauboy, as “We Got Love” is this years Eurovision Song Contest entry for Australia, and the second ESC entry to arrive on my charts.

The rest of the best: Marshmello & Anne-Marie’s “Friends” dips 2-3, Meghan Trainor’s “No Excuses” is down 3-6, Hailee Steinfeld & BloodPop’s “Capital Letters” drops 5-9 and Sean Paul, David Guetta & Becky G are all down 7-10 with “Mad Love”. Last but not least, the queen of last weeks chart – Saara Aaalto – still owns two entries in the Top10 as well, but all of her songs are dropping this week, with “Monsters” (1-5) and “Queens” (4-7) having a rather normal drop, but “Domino” tumbles down 17-35.

“You Owe Me” by The Chainsmokers (7-11), “The Joke” by Brandi Carlile (9-12), “Heaven” by Julia Michaels (8-13) and “My Way” by One Bit & Noah Cyrus (10-19) all leave the Top10, the latter with a surprisingly big drop this week. Meanwhile, Madison Beer reaches a new peak as her “Dead” improves 23-17, surpassing its entry position at #20 from four weeks ago. There are also new peaks for Niall Horan and Måns Zelmerlöw, as their songs are rising for the third week in a row, with Niall’s “On The Loose” climbing 26-21 and Måns’ “Happyland” going up 27-23. Other than that, most of the other charting songs make an impression with their drops, as several songs suffer a lot from the many new arrivals. The biggest and most shocking drops go to P!nk for “Whatever You Want” (15-24), Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey for “The Middle” (14-25), Delta Goodrem for “Think About You” (18-26), Sofi Tukker & Co. for “Best Friend” (19-28), Emmelie de Forest for “History” (20-31) and The Dark Element for “The Ghost And The Reaper” (21-30) and “My Sweet Mystery” (25-38).

Madison Beer’s “Dead” is the biggest climber while Saara Aalto’s “Domino” is the biggest loser this week.

There’s a new number one! Brandi Carlile got beaten in her fourth week on the charts, and the album that did it was already expected to have the top debut, as it’s “Decades”, the new best of release by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. The band is one of the most successful artists on my charts, with both of their last two albums having spent incredible ten weeks atop the album charts each. It’s their 13th entry on the album charts, not only making them the artist with most album entries ever, but also tying the entries they got on the singles charts so far. So this is a pretty successful week for Tuomas Holopainen, who is the head of Nightwish and Auri.

Brandi Carlile isn’t able to tie Leaves’ Eyes when it comes to the longest running number one album of the year so far, at least not for now, as her “By The Way, I Forgive You” slips 1-2. She’s followed by the second of two new entries of the week, which is coming from Swiss hip hop duo Lo & Leduc. They have released two proper studio albums so far, and both peaked inside the Top10, with “Zucker furs Volk” having peaked at #4 in 2015 and “Ingwer und Ewig” at #6 in 2017. Now they’re back with “Update 4.0”, the fourth release of their ‘Update’ series, which they’ve started to release before going mainstream with the two mentioned albums, and these ‘Update’ releases were always for free on streaming services. The fourth edition immediately becomes their highest entry ever on my charts as it’s new at #3, plus it’s also charting on the Swiss Album Charts as the first streaming-only release ever.

The rest of the Top10: The Dark Element’s “The Dark Element” dips 2-4, Ashley Tisdale’s “Music Sessions, Vol. 1” EP is down 3-5, Madison Beer’s “As She Pleases” falls 4-6, Alma’s “Heavy Rules Mixtape” EP drops 5-7, “History” by Emmelie De Forest (8-8) and “Waves” by Rachel Platten (9-9) both remain stagnant and Bea Miller’s “Aurora” closes the upper half with “Aurora” (6-10).

After having bad luck with cancellations and other events, it’s likely to see the first concert effect of the year on the charts next week, as Evanescence will have their Swiss concert next Tuesday. Due to the hype around that, their latest project “Synthesis” re-enters the charts at #11 this week. Violinist Lindsey Stirling is also back at #18 with “Brave Enough”. Lindsey will go on tour with Evanescence this summer, but unfortunately only in North America. “Nation Of Two” by Vance Joy (7-12) and “XV – Best Of” by Faun (10-14) fall out of the upper half. Last but not least, after an impressive 40 weeks in the Top20, Halsey’s “hopeless fountain kingdom” has to leave the Album Top20 for its first time. But she just announced the next single of it, which will be released later today, so it’s likely to come back soon again.
