        week 45/2014 – 6 november 2014 Baby, Don’t Lie, it’s 1989!

        • Singles Top40

Lindsey Stirling defends the top position this week with her latest release “Roundtable Rival” which became her third chart topper the last time and now her second hit with more than only one week at number one. It was overall a year with many singles that spent only one week on top and so “Roundtable Rival” is just the 8th song with more weeks. Clearly leading this list is Ariana Grande with “Break Free” which topped the charts for incredible nine weeks.

It was a very busy week with seven new entries and one re-entry, and while there were weeks with the same amount of new entries, most entries make a surprisingly high debut compared to these other weeks now. The highest one arrives at number two as Gwen Stefani enters the charts with her solo-comeback single “Baby Don’t Lie”. She scored several hits with her last solo album “The Sweet Escape” back in 2007/2008, including a top hit with “Wind It Up”. Rounding up the Top3 is “Master Of Tides” by Lindsey Stirling which is down 2-3.

Ed Sheeran remains stable at #4 with “Thinking Out Loud”, followed by fellow UK-star Jessie J and her “Burnin’ Up” which is actually going up (6-5). It’s the album release week of Taylor Swift’s new album and so it’s not really a surprise to see some entries of hers. The highest this week is the promo single “Out Of The Woods” which enters the charts at #6 as her 11th Top10 hit. Nicole Scherzinger reaches a new peak with “Run” (10-7), just one week after “On The Rocks” peaked there too but that one falls out of the Top10 this time (7-11). “Crystallize” remains strong and gives Lindsey a third hit in the Top10, but it decreases 3-8. Due to the UKmix Forum Song Contest, Invader Girl’s debut single “Starting Fires” comes in as the third new entry at #9, followed by “You Can Never Be Ready” by Sunrise Avenue (5-10).

Lindsey’s fourth Top10 hit from last week – “Shatter Me” – falls out of them this time (8-13). Also out of the Top10 is “Love Who Loves You Back” by Tokio Hotel which loses a lot of places (9-20). It’s now below their other charting song “Girl Got A Gun” (14-17). Taylor Swift’s lead single of her new album is called “Shake It Off” and became her tenth Top10 hit a few weeks ago, but failed to get big success. Now the song re-enters the charts at #12 and has the chances to smash again. She even makes a third appearance as album opener and second promo single “Welcome To New York” makes the charts too at #14, being her 16th song to make the charts since 2009 when “You Belong With Me” became her first charting hit – and also her first number one. As if all these high entries wouldn’t be enough, there’s even one more in the Top20. After four Top20 hits, Imagine Dragons are back with the lead single of their upcoming second album. The song is called “I Bet My Life” and starts at #16, their highest charts entry so far but currently also their lowest peaking entry.

Anastacia’s “Lifeline” (18-21), Olly Murs’ “Wrapped Up” (12-22), Tove Lo’s “Habits” (15-23), OneRepublic’s “I Lived” (20-25), Ella Henderson’s “Glow” (19-28) and Lindsey Stirling’s “Beyond The Veil” (13-33) all share the same destiny as all of them leave the upper half of the charts this week. Meanwhile, there are also two songs making a significant jump upwards: Foxes’ “Glorious” seemed to be over but it’s climbing back 34-27 while the huge worldwide hit “All About That Bass” jumps 40-30. Last but not least, scottish DJ Calvin Harris scores two new entries at once with “Outside” featuring Ellie Goulding coming in at #24 and the collaboration with John Newman called “Blame” makes a start at #38. Especially the first track will be interesting to watch as their first duet called “I Need Your Love” was the second most successful song in 2013 on my charts.

Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” is the biggest climber while Lindsey Stirling’s “Beyond The Veil” is the biggest loser.

        • Album Top20

Taylor Swift gets her third consecutive number one album with “1989”, the follow-up to “Red” (#1 for one week two years ago) and “Speak Now” (#1 for five weeks in 2010/2011). Overall it’s already her fourth notation since the album charts started in the first week of 2010 as “Fearless” made the charts for several weeks back then and peaked at #5 for three weeks. She’s now also just the seventh act with three number one albums, with Lady GaGa and Tarja being the ones with the most (five each), while Tarja leads the list as she even got another album which peaked at #5 as it was released before the album charts started.

While Taylor used to be big in 2010-2012, her lead single “Shake It Off” didn’t get that much of a success and so it wasn’t a sure debut atop as Lindsey Stirling was still very strong. In the end, Taylor made the race and so “Shatter Me” loses one place (1-2). Nicole Scherzinger remains strong with her second solo album “Big Fat Lie”, collecting a second week at number three (3-3).

Jessie J falls 2-4 with “Sweet Talker”, and despite charting for already four weeks, it’s still higher than the #7-peak of her previous album “Alive”. Sunrise Avenue’s “Fairytales” (5-5) and Kiesza’s debut “Sound Of A Woman” (6-6) remain at the same positions like last week. Lindsey Stirling’s self-titled debut falls 4-7, followed by Passenger who reaches a new peak as “Whispers” rises 13-8, surpassing the #10-debut from two weeks ago. Anette Olzon is also back in the Top10 with “Shine” (11-9) while Within Temptation close the Top10 with “Hydra”. And while Taylor became the seventh act with three top albums, Within Temptation could be the eighth as they release a live album called “Let Us Burn” next week, which has high chances to get a top debut...

Tove Lo falls out of the Top10 for the first time with her debut album “Queen Of The Clouds” (7-11). The debut album by the swedish singer did actually surprisingly good with only one moderate hit so far. Despite two weeks on top, “Kings Of Suburbia” by Tokio Hotel also already falls out of the Top10 (8-13). The third album that falls out of the upper half is “x” by Ed Sheeran, which is down 10-14 in its 20th week on the charts.

There’s one more new entry on the album charts but it misses the Top10, which actually happens only rarely. It’s the new album by scottish DJ Calvin Harris called “Motion”, which debuts at #12 as his first entry on the Album Top20.

        • Airplay Top10

Gwen Stefani’s solo comeback hit “Baby Don’t Lie” may have missed the top spot on the Singles Top40, but it gets a top debut on the Airplay Top10 with 77 plays over the last week. “Roundtable Rival” got another 68 plays, even more than last week, but Lindsey’s current single slips 1-2. Rounding up the Top3 is “Take Flight”, another song from Lindsey’s album “Shatter Me”, which is up 4-3 with 40 plays – just the same amount it had last week.

Invader Girl gets a surprising debut at #4 with her debut song “Starting Fires”. Even more than a week after her concert, Lindsey still owns the most songs on the airplay charts with five entries. Apart from the two already mentioned songs, she has “Moon Trance” (5-5), “Crystallize” (2-6) and “Master Of Tides” (3-7) charting. The last act to make an appearance on the airplay charts is obviously Taylor Swift due to her album release. The lead single “Shake It Off” is back at #8 while album track “I Know Places” enters the charts at #9 followed by the promo single “Out Of The Wood” which closes the Top10.

Taylor Swift missed the Top10 with a few other songs from “1989” by only a few plays as “Bad Blood”, “Style”, All You Had To Do Was Stay”, “Welcome To New York” and the second official single “Blank Space” all got ten plays – a good amount! Also missing the Top10 by even less plays is Lindsey Stirling’s “Elements” which got 16 plays last week.

Plays of the Top10 went up by 3 to 348 (+0.9%) compared to last week.

yes and i'm glad it did. There was a time when i was obsessed with the album and ID.

i hope their next album is as good.

The problem i had with this album was that there was (apart from "Bleeding Out" and probably "Tiptoe") no other good song on the album apart from the singles

But i'm still excited for their second album and also hope it will be good

                      • Thanks for the Lindsey concert review! I wouldn't say I'm a fan, I like her work though, and she's very sympathic.

Great to see Gwen that high

Hope to have time to listen to the Taylor album soon to see whether I like it or not. I'm not her biggest fan yet and I wouldn't go and buy her album at the moment, but I'm still interested.

I guess i have to give the album another chance. Haven't listened to it in ages...

You're welcome Oh good to know, she's really cute...

Glad you like her entry. It caught my by surprise, didn't expect such a catchy tune from her at all!

The album isn't bad at all, it's just full of pop songs, no country at all. This have a positive and a negative site; positive is that most songs are really catchy (but you need to give them 2-3 spins), while the negative is that all songs could be sung by every other pop singer out there. I still like it more than "Red", but "Fearless" and "Speak Now" as albums are better.

Fantastic to see '1989' in #1. I was afraid you might not like the album.

                            • Are you going to post your Charts on Friday from now on or was it just an exception?

Great re-entry for "Shake It Off". Although I'm not that familiar with her other stuff that much, I like that song a lot.
Great longevity for Break Free, I suppose it'll be pretty high on your Year End Charts.

The debut Position for "I Bet My Life" is really good! I'm not into that song that much at the Moment, but once it'll be up on Spotify, I will probably listen to it way more.
+ I can't wait to see how the latest collaboration between Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding will do here. At this Point, I must say I still prefer "I Need Your Love" (such an amazing achievement that it was the #2 song of 2013 here!)

Top 30 for Meghan Trainor this week! YAY. Hope it'll make it even a Little big higher in the next few weeks.

                                You loved it? That's fantastic!!

I knew you would like the album's debut. I took more time for it than usual because i didn't like it at first but in the end i have to say it's actually a really good pop record

No, thursday remains the day when i post my charts, but there's always the possibility for an exception (no time, or if i mess up with the file of my charts like i did last week )

The album really made me like "Shake It Off" again, but there are even better songs there. Hope you will like some of them.
Yes, this will definitely get a good position...

Same with me actually. Well, "I Bet My Life" isn't bad at all, but it's not what i expected. I guess it will grow on me more once the album will be released.
Both "Outside" and "All About That Bass" are likely to get a Top20 notation this week...

Taylor's new album is really great, Isnt it? I prefer the first ten songs over the rest though, I think it gets a bit boring near the end tbh.

It is. Well, i wasn't the biggest fan of her new direction when "Shake It Off" came out, but after a few spins "1989" really got me. There are lots of good, catchy pop tunes on it. You don't like "I Know Places" then? It's my favorite song

week 46/2014 – 13 november 2014 duel of the Songstresses

                                      • Singles Top40

Ariana Grande gets her fifth number one single as “Love Me Harder” enters the charts at the top as the third official single from her second album “My Everything”. It’s also already her 12th Top10 arrival overall and fifth hit this year. Her biggest competition this week came from Gwen Stefani whose “Baby Don’t Lie” remains strong in its second week (2-2).

The Top3 is rounded by songstress Selena Gomez who released the new single “The Heart Wants What It Wants” including its heartbreaking video out of the blue. It’s her tenth single to peak inside the Top3 and 11th notation overall (the promo single “Bang Bang Bang” is her only non-Top3 hit with a #5 peak). The song is the lead single of her upcoming best of “For You” which will be released in around a week and could already become her fifth number one album on the charts.

Lindsey Stirling’s “Roundtable Rival” falls 1-4 after two weeks on top while her other Top10 hit “Master Of Tides” is down 3-7. These are her only Top10 notations this week as “Crystallize” falls out of them (8-16). Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding have another hit in their hands with “Outside”. After the lowish debut the last time, the collaboration and single from Calvin’s new album increases 24-5, becoming Ellie’s tenth Top10 hit. Nicole Scherzinger is up one place with “Run” (7-6), getting a new peak again, while Jessie J falls 5-8 with “Burnin’ Up” followed by Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” which leaves the Top5 after four weeks (4-9). A third new entry makes it to the Top10 as ESC winner and queen of Austria Conchita Wurst arrives with her new single called “Heroes” at #10. It’s the follow-up single to “Rise Like A Phoenix” which peaked at #2 and stayed on the charts for ten weeks.

After just one week “Out Of The Woods” by Taylor Swift has to leave the Top10 (6-11). Sunrise Avenue also leave that territory with “You Can Never Be Ready” which is down 10-13. While Passenger’s “Heart’s On Fire” is going up 19-15, his other charting single called “Scare Away The Dark” reaches a new peak by increasing 29-18, becoming his second Top20 hit. US newcomer Meghan Trainor also gets a Top20 hit, but her first as her debut single “All About That Bass” gets another ten places (30-20).

Several songs fall out of the upper half from the charts and some of them experiences a pretty big drop. After the album release effect, both “Shake It Off” (12-21) and “Welcome To New York” (14-25) by Taylor Swift gets a big decrease. German band Tokio Hotel’s two charting songs also drops a lot with “Girl Got A Gun” going down 17-26 and “Love Who Loves You Back” losing another ten places (20-30). Nicole Scherzinger gets a big drop for “On The Rocks” (11-22), while the biggest drop goes to Invader Girl and her debut hit “Starting Fires” (9-27).

There are two more new entries and one re-entry. Nicki Minaj is back on the charts with “Anaconda”, re-entering at #23. The song debuted and peaked at #3 earlier this year and got a huge hype due to its music video. The two new entries have both a relation to X-Factor. German X-Factor 2012 winners Mrs. Greenbird are back with a new album called “Postcards”, and while their last single debuted and peaked at #2, the lead single of the album called “Everyone’s The Same” makes a lower start at #28. The last debut comes from UK X-Factor contestants One Direction as their new single “Steal My Girl” starts at #34. It’s their fourth entry on the Singles Top40 with “Story Of My Life” being the highest-peaking so far (#21).

The biggest climber is “Outside” by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding while the biggest loser is Invader Girl’s “Starting Fires”.

The competition for the top album wasn’t too big this week and so it’s probably a little surprise to see Mrs. Greenbird there. Mrs. Greenbird is a pop folk duo from Germany who won the german version of X-Factor nearly two years ago. Their self-titled debut peaked at #5 for two non-consecutive weeks despite a Top2 single hit, and while they have no big hit right now, their second album “Postcards” makes it to the top.

Taylor Swift slips 1-2 with “1989”, having the same second week drop like her previous album “Red”. Jessie J’s “Sweet Talker” shows some good stability and comes back to the Top3 by climbing 4-3 in its fifth week on the charts, followed by Nicole Scherzinger’s “Big Fat Lie” which slips 3-4. The concert effect for Lindsey Stirling is slowly but surely over and so it’s not a big surprise to see “Shatter Me” still falling, down 2-5 this week, while her debut leaves the Top10 (7-11). But even if she’s starting to fall again, she can celebrate the 80th charting week for her debut, which is immense! UK singer songwriter Passenger gets a new peak again as “Whispers” keeps on increasing, up 8-6 this week.

There are two more new entries this week and both of them are by dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation. Their debut album “Enter” which was released in 1997 was very rare to get physically for years, but now they decided to release it again this week and as a fan i got this obviously and hence it’s entering the charts at #7, followed by “The Dance”, an EP which was released in 1998 at #8 which shares the same story. The last two appearances in the Top10 are Ariana Grande’s “My Everything” (16-9) and Sunrise Avenue’s “Fairytales” (5-10).

Apart from Lindsey Stirling’s debut, there are three more albums that fall out of the Top10 this time. Anette Olzon’s “Shine” reaches a new all-time-low (9-12), newcomer Kiesza leaves the Top10 after two weeks with “Sound Of A Woman” (6-13) and Within Temptation’s “Hydra” falls 10-14.

While Ariana Grande makes a top debut on the Singles Top40, it’s Selena Gomez who gets the top position on the Airplay Top10. Her new song “The Heart Wants What It Wants” enters the charts directly on top with 51 plays over the last week. It’s followed by “Outside” by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding which makes a debut at #2 while Ariana is back at number three with “Love Me Harder” and 43 plays. Usually, the number one gets by far the most points, so having a Top3 with such a small difference is pretty rare and speaks for a good week.

Gwen Stefani falls 1-4 with “Baby Don’t Lie”, but the song got another good 35 plays. Since Mrs. Greenbird got a top debut for their new album “Postcards” it’s not that surprising to see some tracks by them entering the charts too. “Planets” got the most plays at #5, followed by album opener “Dark Horses” (no Katy cover!), the single “Everyone’s The Same” at #7, “Mr. Werewolf” at #8 and the title track at #9. The last song on the charts is Lindsey Stirling’s “Roundtable Rival” which falls 2-10.

There were some songs that were played quite often but miss the charts this week. Most other album tracks from Mrs. Greenbird “Postcards” got at least ten plays for example, while Jessie J’s album songs got around nine plays including 12 plays for “Sweet Talker and “Burnin’ Up” – one less than Lindsey at #10. Lindsey’s own “Take Flight” has to leave the charts with only one play less as well, and “Elements” missed the charts due to only three plays too less again.

Plays of the Top10 went down by 69 to 279 (-19.8%) compared to last week.

                                        • OMG your #1, I love Love Me Harder, the best song on My Everything IMO. Your #2 is great too, I really hope Gwen's album will be amazing.

                                          • YAY, awesome #1 hit! One of my very favorite Songs off her latest Album.

Awesome jump for Calvin/ Ellie, too.
Nice to see Meghan Trainor in the Top 20 this week.

As for the Albums, I'm glad to see "Whispers" getting a new Peak Position this week.

Taylor's new album is really great, Isnt it? I prefer the first ten songs over the rest though, I think it gets a bit boring near the end tbh.
                                              Glad you like their entries
It is. Well, i wasn't the biggest fan of her new direction when "Shake It Off" came out, but after a few spins "1989" really got me. There are lots of good, catchy pop tunes on it. You don't like "I Know Places" then? It's my favorite song
I didn’t like Shake It Off at first either but it’s after growing on me since I started listening to the album. It’s still one of my least favourites on the album but now I like it for what it is. I Know Places is good, It still has to grow on me a bit tbh, a lot of tracks are still growing on me. Style, Blank Space & Out Of The Woods are my favourites from the album so far.

Same with me. Actually i consider "Shake It Off" as one of the best songs from the album now
Good favorites, these are all amazing as well. I'd say "Style" and "Out Of The Woods" battle for the second most favorite song of the album for me

Glad you love Ari's new single that much too I was very happy when they announced it as the third single as it was one of my faves from "My Everything" since the first listen
                                                Hope the same for Gwen

Great you love Ari's "Love Me Harder", can't wait to see how it will do on your charts

"Outside" is fantastic! Really grew on me last week...
Same for Meghan, i heard it a lot lately and had to sing a long all the time

"Whispers" is good, still growing on me. It depends on the competition next week and it's still early, but i'd say another new peak is possible...

Good to hear that The song will probably fall out of the charts this week though... but i'll buy their album for sure so it can re-enter
