week 3/2015 – 15 january 2015 New entries for Sia, Meghan & more

          • Singles Top40

Marina And The Diamonds gets a second week on top with “Froot”, but the competition was way stronger this week than it was the previous one. Newcomer Kwabs improves a lot with his debut hit “Walk” (11-2) and nearly got the top position, and Within Temptation are back in the Top3 again as “Edge Of The World” is up 6-3.

Like last week, the highest new entry makes its appearance at #4, and this time it’s australian singer and songwriter Sia and her new single “Elastic Heart”. The song was released as the second official single of her current album “1000 Forms Of Fear”, and becomes her third Top5 hit as a main artist after “Clap Your Hands” (#1, 2010) and “Chandelier” (#3, 2014). Meghan Trainor don’t want to be a One Hit Wonder, and it really seems like she won’t be one. Beside the very good predictions for her debut album “Title” (could do around 200k in the US), the second single “Lips Are Movin’” is becoming a big hit and also becomes her highest hit on my charts, debuting at #8 and surpassing the peak of “All About That Bass” (#19, re-entry at #28 this week). Marina And The Diamonds’ “Froot” is getting some support as the promotional tracks “Immortal” (#16) and “Happy” (#19) make an appearance this time. Last but not least, Robin Schulz’ “Sun Goes Down” with UK youngster Jasmine Thompson re-enters and re-peaks at #23 due to its increasing airplay over here.

Madonna’s “Living For Love” slips 3-5 in her third week, followed by Billy Boyd who falls 2-6 with “The Last Goodbye”. Swiss band Pegasus reach a new peak with their single “Last Night On Earth” (10-7), same for Demi Lovato’s ballad “Nightingale” which becomes her seventh Top10 single (15-9). Ariana Grande’s “Love Me Harder” closes the Top10 in its tenth week (8-10).

There were quite a few more exciting movements on the charts this week. Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars soars 23-12 with “Uptown Funk”, which is their third highest placement during their 9-week-chartrun. Its parent album “Uptown Special” will make its debut next week, so it’s to expect to see the song even higher then too. Pentatonix’ “Mary, Did You Know?” reaches a new peak, up 27-17. It’s their only single entry so far and the first christmas single to reach a new peak that late.

“Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars is the biggest climber while Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” is the biggest loser (16-37).

          • Album Top20

For the third week in a row there’s a new number one, but this time it’s an old one. Within Temptation return back to the top with their live album “Let Us Burn”, up 2-1 in their ninth week. It’s already the third non-consecutive week on top, which is pretty impressive for a live record. While Pentatonix’ “That Christmas To Me” is falling 1-3, it’s Meghan Trainor’s debut album simply called “Title” which debuts at #2 between those two. That debut is better than expected, as pop acts often need a hit to score a high peaking album on my charts, and Meghan didn’t get a big hit so far, but that could change soon.

Ariana Grande continues with climbing, this week up 5-4 with “My Everything”. The next single “One Last Time” should be released soon and so it’s pretty safe to say that the album will spend some more weeks inside the Top10. Due to the new single, Sia’s “1000 Forms Of Fear” returns at #5. Shockingly, it’s also a new peak, as it only debuted and peaked at #6 last year – way lower than “We Are Born” which became a top album for her back in 2010. The soundtrack for the Hobbit movie leaves the Top3 after just two weeks (3-6), Nicki Minaj falls 4-7 with “The Pinkprint” followed by Within Temptation’s “Hydra” which is back in the Top10. Jessie J’s “Sweet Talker” (8-9) and Olly Murs’ “Never Been Better” (7-10) are the last albums in the Top10.

There are two more re-entries on this weeks charts: Lindsey Stirling’s “Shatter Me” is back at #17 after a very successful 2014, while One Direction’s “FOUR” is back at #20.

          • Airplay Top10

Marina defends her top spot on the airplay charts as well and so “Froot” spends a second week at number one. But while it got a massive amount of plays last week, it got around hundred less this time (45 plays), which was only three more than its closest rival which is – just like on the Singles Top40 – newcomer Kwabs and his “Walk”. Closing the Top3 is the live version of “Candles” from the current live album “Let Us Burn” by Within Temptation, which makes a surprisingly high re-entry.

“Candles” isn’t the only song by Within Temptation on the Airplay Top10 this week, there are a few more. “Sinιad” and “Mother Earth”, both also from the live album, are back at #4 and #5, followed by the single “Edge Of The World” (10-6) and the “Sanctuary Intro” (new at #7). Apart from Sia’s “Elastic Heart” which is new at #8, the last songs remain to Madonna. Four of her six tracks have to leave the charts, but “Devil Pray” (2-9) and “Living For Love” (3-10) both survived.

Plays of the Top10 went up down 28 to 257 (-9.8%) compared to last week.

Surprised to see "Elastic Heart" now finally starting everywhere. It charted on my Charts in November 2013 and was even #2, close to #1! ;)

(YAY for 'Like I Can' dropping 10 positions! )

Great news for Elastic Heart too, I'm a bit obsessed with it at the moment
Glad you like this Yes i did, but don't expect a big(ger) success for them as i only downloaded "Froot" so far and was listening to the other two 'only' on youtube.
Me too, was always a fave of the album so i'm really happy it's released now

Mine as well!! Well, "Ghosttown" wasn't at first, but it grew on me a lot, i'm loving it now. "Devil Pray" remains the best one though

                        Glad you like "Walk"
Well, it was released as the second single of her current album just now (in a solo version, not the version from back in 2013)

Glad you like these new entries. So i guess "Immortal" is your least favorite of these three?

Haha... you don't like the song?

                        • What an impressive jump for "Walk"! - It has grown on me lately. So it's great to see it that high on your chart!
Also, nice update for WT's "Edge Of The World" - Still waiting for a music video; so that I can finally treat it like a single as well

#4 for Sia is also amazing! - I have to say that it somehow bothers me that she releases the song... It's too "Catching Fire" for me... the music video does come 1 year and 3 months too late.

Meghan Trainor is somehow annoyin'. I think that I liked her "Bass" song for four or five minutes. Don't think that she will stay relevant

It deserves to be certified with Platinum before dropping out of your chart!

                          • Taniske your chart is amazing! So well executed! The amount of time you must put into it each week must be huge.

                            1. Froot
                            2. Walk
                            4. Elastic Heart
                            5. Living For Love
                            8. Lips Are Movin'
                            9. Nightingale
                            10. Love Me Harder

                            12. Uptown Funk
                            13. Break Free

                            16. Immortal
                            19. Happy

                            39. Something In The Water

"Froot" is nice, but I'm not liking it as much as everyone else. I suppose I might like it better if I played it more but I'm waiting for the album on C.D to buy it. "Happy" is the best song so far.

I love "Walk" - it's a great track! "Elastic Heart" is great too, but I prefer the original duet version to Sia's solo, although there's not that much difference.

Good to "Lips Are Movin'" debut, it's her best track yet imo.

"Nightingale" is a random track, but one of the best from the album. Has is just recently been released a single or something?

                            Keep up the great work!

Me as well, but i don't think there'll be one

Well, i never heard the 'original' one and i'm not a fan of these movies, so it was only an album track so far, but it was one of my faves so i'm really happy it got released
Meghan's music is more than just that 'Bass' - Her debut is actually a solid pop record
                                    Selena's song barely reached Gold...

Good to see that you like so many entries on my charts. For me it's just the other way, "Happy" is my least fave from all three songs so far But while i downloaded "Froot", i wait for the other songs until the albums comes out so maybe i'll change my mind then
Glad you like "Walk", it's a big hit over here and i hope he will release a debut album this year. Actually i haven't heard the original version of "Elastic Heart" but i should do it, as i like The Weeknd's voice on "Love Me Harder"

Oh yay, i agree about "Lips Are Movin'" but most people prefer "All About That Bass", so i'm glad i'm not the only one
As for Demi's "Nightingale" - she released a video for it, so it's a (promo?) single, and surely the last release of her album.
                                    Thanks

I really am "Mother Earth" (the song) is one of their best songs, if not the best, so i'm really glad to know you loved the album

week 4/2015 – 22 january 2015 gotta slow up and Break The Rules

                                      • Singles Top40

We’ve got a new number one! Newcomer Kwabs entered the Top10 for the first time just last week, and now his hit single “Walk” also becomes his first top hit (2-1). It’s the first time a debut single becomes a top hit since Elaiza’s “Is It Right” did the same exactly ten months ago. In their tenth week on the charts, “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars climbs 12-2, surpassing the #6-peak from their debut week. Closing the Top3 is the first of five new entries: Charli XCX. Her new single is called “Break The Rules” and actually becomes her first entry as a main- and solo artist.

Despite “Uptown Funk” being as successful as never before, the follow-up single of Mark Ronson’s new album “Uptown Special” is already ready to smash. It’s called “Daffodils”, features Kevin Parker and debuts at #14. David Guetta’s new single “What I Did For Love” enters the charts at #26, becoming also the third entry for Emeli Sandι. The UK singer songwriter scored only two hits on her own, but both, “Read All About It, Pt. III” (#4, certified with 3x Gold) and “Clown” (#7, certified with Gold), became big hits. 2015 starts with a big comeback as Kelly Clarkson is ready to release her new album soon. The lead single for “Piece By Piece” is called “Heartbeat Song” and debuts at #34. The last new entry is “Flicker” by Marlon Roudette at a disappointing #39, while Within Temptation’s “Mother Earth” re-enters the charts at #37.

After two weeks at number one, Marina And The Diamonds’ “Froot” falls 1-4. Her other songs “Immortal” (16-21) and “Happy” (19-30) are also falling several positions. Within Temptation are down 3-5 with “Edge Of The World”, followed by Sia’s “Elastic Heart” (4-6). While Demi Lovato reaches a new peak with the surprising “Nightingale” (9-7), Meghan Trainor remains at #8 with “Lips Are Movin”. The last two songs in the Top10 are Ariana Grande with “Love Me Harder” (10-9) and Madonna’s “Living For Love” (5-10).

Quite surprisingly, german DJ and producer Robin Schulz climbs into the Top20 with “Sun Goes Down” (23-11), becoming his second Top20 entry and also Jasmine Thompson’s first. A lot of places lower are two other interesing climbs. One Direction are back up 34-27 with “Steal My Girl”, becoming their longest charting single now, and fellow UK boyband Take That even reach a new peak with “These Days”, up 40-35. Two acts are currently disappointing with their charts performances. Both, Christina Perri and MarieMarie only scored Top10 hits so far, but it looks like “The Words” (22-29) and “20 Steps” (24-38) will be their biggest flop by far so far.

Robin Schulz’ “Sun Goes Down” is this weeks biggest climber while MarieMarie’s “20 Steps” is the biggest loser.

Within Temptation collects a fourth non-consecutive week on top with their live release “Let Us Burn”, also spending its tenth week in the Top5. It becomes their first release to spend ten consecutive weeks in that territory. Meghan Trainor remains stable at number two with her debut album “Title”, followed by “Uptown Special”. “Uptown Special” is the new album by UK producer Mark Ronson and becomes his first chart entry on the album charts.

Mark’s album brings the only movement in the Top5 as Ariana Grande’s “My Everything” (4-4) and Sia’s “1000 Forms Of Fear” (5-5) both remain where they were last week as well. Pentatonix’ “That’s Christmas To Me” finally leaves the Top3, down 3-6. Hozier’s self-titled debut album (11-7) and Ed Sheeran’ “x” (16-8) both climb back into the Top10, with the latter likely getting another push the next two or three weeks due to his concert next wednesday. Within Temptation’s “Hydra” (8-9) and Nicki Minaj’s “The Pinkprint” (7-10) close the Top10.

All three albums that fall out of the Top10 this week are doing it for the first time: Jessie J’s “Sweet Talker” is down 9-11 in her 15th week, Olly Murs’ “Never Been Better” falls 10-14 in his ninth week while the soundtrack for the Hobbit movie tumbles 6-15 in its fourth week. There’s one last thing worth a mention. Taylor Swift’s current album “1989” wasn’t as successful as her previous records so far, but the album re-enters the charts at #12 this time. With “Style” being chosen to be released as the third single, there’s a chance to see the album even back in the Top10 soon.

                                      • Airplay Top10

It’s a quite similar situation on the Airplay Top10 like it is on the Singles Top40. Marina And The Diamonds has to leave the top spot, but while “Froot” remains in the Top5 on the singles charts, it falls completely out of the airplay charts. It’s also Kwabs who takes the crown here with “Walk”, up 2-1. He’s followed by Charli XCX who debuts with “Break The Rules” as well. Despite being released several weeks ago, “Uptown Funk” never debuted on the airplay charts until now, as it enters the charts at #3.

Within Temptation remains the act with most entries on the charts. While their “Sanctuary Intro” leaves the charts, “Candles” (3-4), “Edge Of The World” (6-5), “Sinιad” (4-6) and “Mother Earth” (5-7) all remain pretty stable. Same for Sia’s “Elastic Heart” (8-8). The last two songs on the charts are by Meghan Trainor and Demi Lovato. While both have a new Top10 hit on the singles charts for two weeks now, both “Lips Are Movin” (#9) and “Nightingale” (#10) are now entering the airplay charts as well.

Plays of the Top10 went up down 8 to 249 (-3.1%) compared to last week.

                                        • Great to see Elsstic Heart & Lips Are Movin' in the top 10. is that the solo version of Elastic Heart? I prefer the version with The Weeknd tbh.

Thanks for your comment, glad you like them. Yes, it's the solo version = the one on the album, as that's the only one i've heard so far

OMG listen to the one from the Hunger Games soundtrack, It features The Weeknd on the second verse. It’s so much better.

                                                • Nop... I don't really like 'Like I Can'.

Amazing debut for 'Break The Rules'. I love this song so much (especially since I can relate to the 'I don't wanna go to School - I just wanna break the rules' line so much at the Moment. ).

Good to see 'Steal My Girl' climbing again + over at the Album Charts I like the re-entry for '1989'.

                                                  • Hi Tansike

I think its time i return the favour and comment on your chart, gonna start checking more charts on here.

                                                    1 (2) Kwabs – Walk
                                                    Chart Run: 14-11-2-*1*- / 4w

Such a fantastic track, so far has peaked at #5 in my chart but there's every possibility it can climb up again. I'm more amazed that Kwabs has done so well in Germany whilst his success in the UK has been really poor in comparison. I hope Walk gets re-released and becomes a big hit in the UK.

2 (12) Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
                                                    Chart Run: 6-11-20-25-28-38-36-23-12-*2*- / 10w

This is just amazing, from the first time i heard this i was totally hooked and i still love listening to this song. Its already spent 9 weeks in my top 3 alone.

                                                    6 (4) Sia – Elastic Heart
                                                    Chart Run: *4*-6- / 2w

Weird that i didn't pay much attention to this back in 2013 but i don't remember ever hearing it back then, and i had only just joined here and didn't really post here that much at first.

8 (8) Meghan Trainor – Lips Are Movin
                                                    Chart Run: *8*-8- / 2w

I like this but its not as strong as All about that bass and its so far peaked at #13 in my chart but i don't see this going much higher for me.

                                                    9 (10) Ariana Grande & The Weeknd – Love Me Harder *G*
                                                    Chart Run: *1*-3-3-4-4-5-7-6-8-10-9- / 11w

I sort of went off this quite quickly after i first entered the song. There have been one or two weeks when its got close to re-entering my top 20 but just missed out due to other newer songs.

                                                    10 (5) Madonna – Living For Love
                                                    Chart Run: *1*-3-5-10- / 4w

I think i'm now ready for the whole album to get released on iTunes. Ghosttown is still by far my fave track so far on the album whilst i'm already starting to tire of the other tracks although Living for love is still in my top 20.

11 (23) Robin Schulz feat. Jasmine Thompson – Sun Goes Down
                                                    Chart Run: 26-29-27-Out-RE 23-*11*- / 5w

This is a great track, got to #7 for me last year. Robin Schulz really was the biggest dance remix/producer of 2014 thanks to his Mr. Probz & Lilly Wood & The Prick remixes.

12 (13) Ariana Grande feat. Zedd – Break Free *2xP*
                                                    Chart Run: *1*-1-1-1-1-1-3-1-1-1-3-2-3-5-6-8-11-15-14-7-8-11-7-7-9-12-7-13-12- / 29w

Wow, still going strong here. This dropped out of my chart ages ago but then again the average number of weeks a big hit spends in my chart is 15 weeks, only Hozier has surpassed that with 18 weeks in my top 20 now iirc, although that's spilt between three seperate chart runs.

                                                    15 (14) Sam Smith – Like I Can
                                                    Chart Run: *4*-14-15- / 3w

Here's a song that i charted in November and sort of got bored of, but i've heard it quite a lot recently and i've started liking the song more again hence its re-entry in my top 20.

17 (11) Hozier – Take Me To Church

See my comment for #12. Its fantastic to see a song like this becoming so popular all over the world. To think this was #1 in my chart in May 2014 and it's still in my top 20 now.

                                                    23 (27) Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud *G*
                                                    Chart Run: *2*-5-4-4-9-10-13-15-14-17-22-23-26-27-23- / 15w

Just slipped out of my top 20 this week but Ed has had a brilliant run and it'll definitely become one of 2014's most remembered chart toppers.

25 (28) Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass
                                                    Chart Run: 39-Out-RE 40-30-20-*19*-29-38-Out-RE 28-25- / 9w

Wow, i guess you must prefer Lips are movin' then if this didn't go top 10 in your chart.

34 (NEW) Kelly Clarkson – Heartbeat Song
                                                    Chart Run: *34*- / 1w

This song entered my top 20 yesterday at #18. I've been a big Kelly Clarkson fan since her Breakaway album ten years ago (is it really 10 years? ). I think Since u been gone will always be my fave single from Kelly and i'm sure if i was doing a chart back then it would've been a chart topper for me.

Quite a few other songs i've not heard so if i get some spare time i will check out some of these tracks.
