week 15/2015 – 9 april 2015 step by step, One By One

    • Singles Top40

There’s a surprising number one this week. After debuting at a low #36 just two weeks ago, “One By One” by swedish singers Elize Ryd and Rickard Söderberg climbs 14-1 this week, pushing Lindsey Stirling away after two weeks, whose down to #3 with “Take Flight”. Marina And The Diamonds fills out the Top3 as her ballad “Immortal” is up 6-2, becoming her second highest peaking single ever, only behind former top hit “Froot” (30-39).

While there weren’t that many new arrivals on last week’s charts, there are an incredible eight new entries this week. The highest one comes from Hilary Duff, who debuts at #9 with her new single “Sparks”, being her second Top10 entry after the surprisingly successful #2-peaking “All About You” from last year. Tokio Hotel is also back with a new single called “Feel It All”. After two promotional singles and the lead single “Love Who Loves You Back” which even topped the weekly charts last year, “Feel It All” serves as the second official single from their current album “Kings Of Suburbia”, and becomes another Top10 entry for the band as it’s new at #10. Sia just released the video for her third single “Big Girls Cry”, which makes a debut at #16. Icelanding folk band Of Monsters And Men are back with a new single called “Crystals” (#28). After a very successful debut album, their second album called “Beneath the Skin” will be released in June.

Four more entries... after a very popular collaboration with Ariana Grande on the hit “Love Me Harder”, canadian R&B singer The Weeknd finally gets his first entry as a solo artist as the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack single “Earned It” debuts at #30. 2015 seems to be a good year for Charli XCX. After the two Top10 hits “Break The Rules” (#2) and “Doing It” (#6), “Famous” is already the third single from her second album “Sucker” and debuts at #31. “Are You With Me” by Lost Frequencies is a current big hit in Europe, being #1 in several countries including Switzerland, and this week it’s also entering my charts at #36. The last entry comes from UK band Muse who are new at #38 with their new track “Psycho”.

Back to the Top10. Nightwish leaves the Top3 after seven weeks with “Élan” (3-4), followed by Ed Sheeran who is down 2-5 with “Bloodstream”. Marina And The Diamonds’ second Top10 entry “I’m A Ruin” remains pretty stable (5-6), while Anette Olzon’s “Shine” is as low as never before, falling 4-7 in its sixth week. Last but not least in the Top10, Olly Murs is back up 10-8 with his current single “Seasons”.

Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” (9-11), David Guetta & Emeli Sandé’s “What I Did For Love” (8-12) and Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes” (7-14) are all out of the Top10, with the first two being down after impressive eight and seven weeks. Even more impressive is the run for Within Temptation’s “Edge Of The World”, as it leaves the Top20 for the very first time after 18 weeks (20-23).

“Ony By One” by Elize Ryd and Rickard Söderberg is the biggest climber for another week while Meghan Trainor’s “Dear Future Husband” is the biggest loser (25-40).

    • Album Top20

Nightwish gets a second week on top easily with their eighth studio album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”. Not only because it’s still very strong, but also because there are absolutely no new entries this week. Marina And The Diamonds remains at #2 with “Froot”, while Anette Olzon gets a third consecutive week at #3 with “Shine”.

The Top3 remains exactly the way as it was last week, and also the number four isn’t moving one place as there’s still Lindsey Stirling’s “Shatter Me” (4-4). Lo & Leduc are up 7-5 with their debut album “Zucker fürs Volk”, followed by James Bay’s “Chaos And The Calm” (6-6). Imagine Dragons’ “Smoke + Mirrors” is up 9-7 and gets certified with Gold this week. Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” keeps on falling (5-8), but maybe there’s a chance to see a climb next week due to the new video for the single “Ghosttown”. Brandi Carlile’s “The Firewatcher’s Daughter” slips 8-9 while Taylor Swift’s “1989” closes the Top10 this week as well (10-10).

There may be no new entry, but at least there are two re-entries. Due to their new single, Tokio Hotel’s former number one album “Kings Of Suburbia” is back on the charts at #14, while Kerli’s “Utopia” is back at #17.

    • Airplay Top10

Elize Ryd and Rickard Söderberg also climbs to the top of the airplay charts with their duet “One By One”, up 4-1 from last week. But it’s obviously still the finnish symphonic metal group Nightwish who basically owns the whole charts with the songs of their album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”, with “My Walden” still being the highest entry (1-2) and the lead single “Élan” still being in the Top3.

The heavy rock track “Weak Fantasy” is up 5-4, while album opener “Shudder Before The Beautiful” recovers 10-5. The catchy “Alpenglow” falls 2-6, “Edema Ruh” slips 7-8, “Yours Is An Empty Hope” is down 6-9 while the ballad “Our Decades In The Sun” makes an entry at #10. The title track and “The Eyes Of Sharbat Gula” leave the charts this week, but still were played a lot as they were at #11 and #12. The last missing album track “The Greatest Show On Earth” missed the charts once again by just a few plays as it would have been at #14.

There’s another new entry and it’s not by Nightwish. Hilary Duff is also back on the airplay charts, as the highest debut on the Singles Top40 – her “Sparks” – is also the highest debut on the Airplay Top10 at #7. Last thing worth a mention is Marina And The Diamonds’ “Immortal”, which was played quite a lot too and would have been at #13 this week, nearly back on the airplay charts.

Plays of the Top10 went down by 60 to 268 (-18.3%) compared to last week.

Nice entry for Sparks and Big Girls Cry too!

Crazy I know but if they actually do release a 4th single from 1000 Forms Of Fear, what do you think it should be?

        • Amazing longevity for 'FROOT' so far, very happy about this.

And Imagine Dragons' stability is amazing, too. Especially after that second week drop.

Glad you love it as well and like its position. It's becoming my clear favorite of the album now, too beautiful
Good to see you like these entries. As for the 4th single... i really wish she releases one. If i could pick one, it would be "Free The Animal"... and yours?

                  OMG! When did THIS happen?

Don't get me wrong, it's an ok-ish track but seriously, Melodifestivalen had better songs to offer and I am still disappointed that Loreen's "Paper Light (Higher)" wasn't your #1 (And now I see that this mediocre "Bring Me Back To Life" (Swedish Pop Version) wannabe is your current #1)

It's nice to see Nightwish being so stable! What's your favourite track on their latest album? Mine is "Alpenglow" It's so effing catchy

I see, Sweden is already flopping. Perhaps that's not a good sign for Vienna However, it will shine among all the ballads this year

I love the debut for The Weeknd! All in all, the Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack is freaking awesome (apart from being too Beyoncé)

                  22 (15) Loreen – Paper Lights (Higher)
                  Chart Run: 4-*2*-9-15-22- / 5w
                  :-?

Bring this back to life..... Please

Haha, actually due to lots of coincidences.
A few weeks ago, i wanted to listen to "In And Out Of Love" by Sharon Den Adel and Armin van Buuren. Somehow i ended up listening to a song by Amaranthe on youtube, and Elize Ryd is the frontwoman there, so i checked her wikipedia page (i often do that with stars ). I saw that she was part of the Melodifestivalen there, so i checked that song and thought it was catchy. I had it in my mind for over a week, so i decided to let it chart (#36). Then, i listened to it again on youtube, and liked it even more, downloaded it and it grew on me more and more and now i love it
The live performance is kinda weak once you heard the studio version though...

My faves are "My Walden", "Élan", "Weak Fantasty" and "Shudder Before The Beautiful". "Alpenglow" was one of my faves as well in the first week, but i like the other songs i mentioned pretty much more now

It's currently the only ESC entry, so it's not flopping at all. In fact i love it / him

Crazy I know but if they actually do release a 4th single from 1000 Forms Of Fear, what do you think it should be?
Glad you love it as well and like its position. It's becoming my clear favorite of the album now, too beautiful
Good to see you like these entries. As for the 4th single... i really wish she releases one. If i could pick one, it would be "Free The Animal"... and yours?
Good choice, I really like all the distortion in her voice

week 16/2015 – 16 april 2015 When it all falls down...

                                      • Singles Top40

Elize Ryd and Rickard Söderberg get a second week on top with their duet “One By One”, being even strong enough to hold Madonna’s new single back. The queen of pop releases “Ghosttown” as the second official single from her current album “Rebel Heart”, which becomes her sixth consecutive Top3 arrival (#2). Hilary Duff climbs into the Top3 with current single “Sparks”, which becomes her second Top3 hit after “All About You” peaked at number two last year.

Apart from Madonna’s “Ghosttown”, there are only two more new entries and one re-entry this week. The last froot of the month out of Marina And The Diamonds’ current and third album “Froot” was released and it’s called “Gold”, which becomes her eighth charts entry (#16). The third and last new entry comes from german DJ and producer Felix Jaehn. He already had a big european hit with the remix for Omi’s “Cheerleader”, but that one failed to make an entry on my charts so far. It’s the duet with UK singer Jasmine Thompson on the cover “Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better)”, which marks his first entry ever and her second appearance after the collaboration on Robin Schulz’ “Sun Goes Down”, by entering the charts at #22. The mentioned re-entry comes from canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen. After a disappointing run a few weeks ago, her current single “I Really Like You” is back at #10.

Lindsey Stirling’s “Take Flight” slips 3-4, followed by Marina And The Diamond’s “Immortal” (2-5). Nightwish’s “Élan” leaves the Top5 for the first time after eight weeks (4-6), while Ed Sheeran’s “Bloodstream” is down 5-7. Marina’s second Top10 hit “I’m A Ruin” falls 6-8 and Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” is back in the Top10 in its tenth week (11-9).

Anette Olzon’s “Shine” (7-11) and Olly Murs’ “Seasons” (8-15) fall out of the Top10 for the first time, and german band Tokio Hotel has to leave their place inside the ten best singles as well as “Feel It All” falls 10-13. Mark Forster’s first charts entry ever becomes also his first Top20 hit now as “Flash mich” increases 25-18. Meanwhile, after a surprisingly good run, Calvin Harris and HAIM’s “Pray To God” has to leave the upper half for the first time as it’s down 19-25.

Mark Forster’s “Flash mich” is the biggest climber while The Weeknd’s “Earned It” falls 30-39 as the biggest loser this week.

Another quiet week, and Nightwish gets a third week on top with their current album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”, becoming just the second album to spend three weeks on top this year after Björk’s “Vulnicura” and the first to spend three consecutive weeks at number one since Ariana Grande’s “My Everything” did so last summer. Former Nightwish frontwoman Anette Olzon becomes their biggest rival this week, as her album “Shine” is up 3-2 in its incredible 55th week. Closing the Top3 is Marina And The Diamonds’ “Froot” which slips 2-3.

After loosing places week by week, Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” is up 8-4 mostly because of her new single “Ghosttown”. Lindsey Stirling celebrates her 40th charting week for “Shatter Me” (4-5), but as impressive as it is, it’s still a few weeks behind her self-titled debut album which spend astonishing 81 weeks in the Top20. Brandi Carlile’s current album “The Firewatcher’s Daughter” benefits from the quiet week and is back up 9-6, followed by James Bay’s “Chaos And The Calm” which slips 6-7. Taylor Swift rises 10-8 with “1989”, Lo & Leduc falls 5-9 with “Zucker fürs Volk” and Imagine Dragons’ “Smoke + Mirrors” closes the Top10 (7-10).

After a little re-entry last week, estonian songstress Kerli is up 17-12 with her last album “Utopia”. Her debut album “Love Is Dead” is also back on the charts at #18 this week. The scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris also re-enters the album charts with his latest album “Motion” at #20.

Elize Ryd and Rickard Söderberg also defend their top position on the airplay charts, and “One By One” got even more plays this week than the last one. Its closest rival was Nightwish’s “Élan”, which is back up 3-2 and switches places with their other big airplay hit “My Walden”, which slips 2-3.

“Shudder Before The Beautiful”, the opener to Nightwish’s album, is up one position (5-4), followed by Hilary Duff’s “Sparks” which gets a new peak by climbing 7-5. “Weak Fantasy” by Nightwish falls 4-6, the ballad “Our Decades In The Sun” increases 10-8 and “Alpenglow” is down 6-9. There are two more songs on the charts, obviously, and while both are by Nightwish as well, they aren’t from their current album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”, but from their previous release “Imaginaerum”. While “Last Ride Of The Day” already made a short appearance earlier this year and re-enters the charts at #7, the ballad “Turn Loose The Mermaids” enters the airplay charts for the first time at #10.

The song “Escapist” from their live album “Made In Hong Kong” nearly made a re-entry as well, but in the end it wasn’t enough and it was just enough for a #11 notation. The track “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”, which will be the second single, is directly behind it and maybe it will climb back to the airplay charts soon after the single announcement.

Plays of the Top10 went down by 16 to 252 (-6.0%) compared to last week.

I knew you would like the entry for "Gold". Well, i guess you'd be happier if it's (much) higher, but i still think it's one of the lowlights of "Froot" But it grew a little bit on me lately...

I think AAY is much better than "Sparks" too, but "Sparks" is still a very enjoyable, catchy pop track.

                                                  • Hi Tansike

                                                    2 (NEW) Madonna – Ghosttown
                                                    Chart Run: *2*- / 1w

Amazing new entry for Madonna. Ghosttown was #1 in my chart right at the end of 2014 when the song was first released to iTunes. Still one of my fave songs of 2015 and Madonna is looking set to re-enter my chart tomorrow.

                                                    4 (3) Lindsey Stirling – Take Flight
                                                    Chart Run: *1*-1-3-4- / 4w

I checked out this the other week then forgot to comment. I was really impressed, i've never heard of Lindsay Stirling but this song is really good. I even made a note of this song so check out my next chart as this might be entering.

10 (RE) Carly Rae Jepsen – I Really Like You
                                                    Chart Run: *3*-12-25-38-Out-RE 10- / 5w

What a u-turn in popularity. Carly hasn't found herself dropping right out of my chart and its not looking likely to happen yet as i'm enjoying this song atm after my own initial novelty phase wore off.

                                                    19 (16) Sia – Big Girls Cry
                                                    Chart Run: *16*-19- / 2w

I love Sia's idea of having a trilogy of music videos but think the music video to Big girls cry is the least interesting one. I still love the song, and it was a highlight from the album so happy it was made a single. Chandelier and Elastic heart are still so much better imo.

33 (26) Jess Glynne – Hold My Hand
                                                    Chart Run: 29-*26*-33- / 3w

                                                    Still going strong.

A few others i've yet to hear so will hopefully go on a YouTube spree tonight and tomorrow and listen to some of these new songs.
