Bubbling Under

It’s also a rather quiet week on the Bubbling Under chart, as there are only three new entries and they’re from two albums that already made their impacts last week. But Miley still rules this list at least, as Gimme What I Want spends a second week at number one. Her other hits - Night Crawling (2-3), WTF Do I Know (3-4) and Plastic Hearts (6-9) - are still charting as well.

Miley’s biggest competition comes from Taylor Swift, who actually dethrones Miley on the Album Top20. She’s not able to do the same on the Bubbling Under chart, but has two strong new arrivals with No Body, No Crime feat. HAIM (#2) and Evermore feat. Bon Iver (#8).

The third and last debut goes to Loredana, who keeps doing well on the singles charts and also holds up well on the album charts with Medusa. Album track Näher zu mir stood out a bit more after a first full week and debuts at #5.

Twenty One Pilot’s Christmas Saves The Year has a surprisingly good second week, only dipping 5-6, while Big Ben (4-7) an Her Majesty (8-10) by Frock Destroyers complete the Bubbling Under chart this week.

Singles Top40

For the first time in ages, Christmas had nearly no impact on the charts at all and with Carrie Underwood & John Legend’s Hallelujah falling out (ex #35), Keiino’s A Winter’s Night (19-30) and Lil Nas X‘ Holiday (29-36) are the only two songs left on the Top40 that were made for the festive season. It’s overall a rather calm week, which is no surprise though, as just five new entries find their ways onto the list. However, none of them were strong enough to change something about the Top5, which still goes strong in just a slightly different order. Taylor Swift reclaims the top spot and rises back up 2-1 with Willow, making it only her second chart topper with multiple weeks on top following I Knew You Were Trouble. (five weeks in 2012). Rina Sawayama also nearly reclaimed the top with Lucid, but rises 3-2 in the end, followed by Blackmore’s Night’s Once Upon December (1-3), Ava Max‘ My Head & My Heart (4-4) and K/DA & Co.‘s The Baddest (5-5). The latter also gets certified with Gold this week.

New and re-entries this week: The highest new entry belongs to Swiss-Albanian rapper Loredana, as she recorded a remix for her song Uh Uh with British rapper Stefflon Don. The song arrives at #6 as the third Top10 hit for both artists, though Loredana also keeps charting with Gangster (6-9), Checka (24-28), Kein Hunger (20-29) and Rockstar (34-32). The second highest new arrival is also in the Top10 and a rather unexpected one, as it’s Katy Perry. It’s been a while since the singer has scored a big hit and her latest album Smile was a clear underperformance for her. Months after its release, she has chosen Not The End Of The World as a new single and released a video for the song. The track debuts at #7 as her highest arrival since the #3 peaking Never Really Over.

It’s also been a while since Ed Sheeran released something new, but last week saw the release of his new track Afterglow. The song is not a lead single to a new era but more like a gift to his fans, which also explains why it isn’t a banger and only makes it to #12 this week. It’s still his highest peaking chart entry ever since Happier peaked at #8 in the first half of 2018. Ofenbach & Quarterhead feat. Norma Jean Martine’s Head Shoulders Knees & Toes is a hit in several countries for months now but got lost during a busy fourth quarter on my own charts. Due to other Year-End countdowns, the song makes a late entry at #13 this week. The fifth and final debut goes to American duo Aly & AJ, who scored one of the biggest hits of 2020 with Joan Of Arc On The Dance Floor. Their new single is called Slow Dancing and starts at #15 as their sixth chart entry ever and already second highest peaking one.

Other talking points this week: With this being a rather calm week, there are a few songs that benefit from that and climb up the charts. The first one is Victoria Justice, who keeps reaching a new peak for her comeback single Treat Myself (17-14). Lo & Leduc don’t reach a new peak, but come very close as their single Tribut rises back up 33-25. Finally, Lauren Alaina and Lukas Graham may still be near the bottom of the charts, but their What Do You Think Of? rises 37-35 for a new peak. Last thing worth a mention is a second Gold certification that goes out to Little Mix‘ Sweet Melody. Even though the song falls 12-18 this week, it earns them their very first certification ever.

Lo & Leduc’s Tribut is the biggest climber while Eminem’s Gnat drops 25-38 as the biggest loser this week.

Album Top20

Christmas also has no impact at all on the Album Top20, as Tori Amos‘ Christmastide EP already leaves the charts completely (ex #13) while Blackmore’s Night’s Here We Come A-Caroling EP is the only festive release on the whole charts, dipping 5-8.

Taylor Swift spends a second week atop the charts with Evermore, making it her third album with multiple weeks atop the charts following Speak Now (five weeks in 2010) and Folklore (four weeks, up 18-15 this week). Her biggest competition was still Miley Cyrus, who continues with her strong run and stays at #2 with Plastic Hearts. Meanwhile, Nightwish complete the Top3, as their monster smash HUMAN. :||: NATURE. rises back up 7-3. The album just surpassed Walking In The Air from 2011 to become their third longest charting entry ever, only behind their albums Imaginaerum (49 weeks, 2011) and Endless Forms Most Beautiful (43 weeks, 2015).

New and re-entries this week: There’s just one new entry and that goes to Canadian singer Kiesza and her new EP Dark Tales. The set debuts at #4 this week, surpassing the #6 peaks of both of her two studio albums Sound Of A Woman (2014) and Crave (2020). The year is about to be over and as every year during that time, some albums that made a proper impact during the year benefit from all the year-end countdowns. There are four re-entries due to that, with Amaranthe’s Manifest (#13), Ellie Goulding’s Brightest Blue (#14), Lindsey Stirling’s Artemis (#18) and Ava Max‘ Heaven & Hell (#20).

Other talking points this week: Grimes also benefits from the year-end countdowns, as her latest album Miss Anthropocene jumps back up 19-6. While releases like the All Out EP by K/DA (11-9), Heartbreaker by Inna (9-10) or the What Do I Call You EP by Taeyeon (8-11) are all rather stable, there’s one bigger drop down the charts with Shawn Mendes‘ Wonder, that just doesn’t meet the expectations and already falls 12-17 in its fourth week. It looks even worse for Eminem, who just debuted at #6 with Side B of his album Music To Be Murdered By last week, but already has to leave the Top20 completely this week.

Bubbling Under

The Bubbling Under chart has a similar scenario like the other two charts, as it’s also a very calm week and probably for the first time ever, it’s occupied by album tracks only by the three most successful albums on the Album Top20.

Taylor Swift makes the triple, as in addition to Willow rising back up 2-1 on the singles charts and Evermore staying on top on the album charts, her HAIM assisted No Body, No Crime also rises 2-1 on the Bubbling Under list. Taylor also keeps charting with the Bon Iver assisted Evermore (8-8), while Champagne Problems joins the two as the only new entry this week at #9.

Just like on the Album Top20, Miley Cyrus is also Taylor’s biggest competition on the Bubbling Under chart, as Gimme What I Want nearly topped the charts for a third week but dips 1-2 now. Night Crawling (3-4), WTF Do I Know (4-6) and Plastic Hearts (9-10) keep charting as well, but are all losing some spots this week.

Nightwish’s HUMAN. :||: NATURE. completes the Top3 on the Album Top20 and the album also gets three entries on the Bubbling Under chart, as Shoemaker (#3), Music (#5) and Pan (#7) are all back on the list. All of them already proved to be big hits on the Bubbling Under chart.

Glad to hear that about "Positions", as it's been the same with me! First impression was that it's a good song, but clearly her weakest lead and overall one of her weakest singles. It's still her weakest lead to me, but grew on me a lot and now I'm loving it. Same with the same. What song would you have selected as the lead single? I probably would've go with "Motive", though I get why they didn't release one of the collaborations. Yes, "Sweet Melody" is a POP tune :cool:

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope everyone has started their new year in a positive way!
First things first – 2020 had 53 weeks instead of the usual 52 and even though the charts date is 1st January 2021, it still counts as the 53rd week of 2020 and so it’s labeled that way. Since the Year-End Charts 2020 is already going on, this charts obviously already counts towards the Year-End Charts 2021.

As usual during this part of the year, the charts keeps being rather uneventful, but there were still six songs that make their debuts on the Singles Top40 this week and surprisingly, one of them even takes the top spot this week. American Pop duo Aly & AJ had their breakthrough back in 2005 and released three albums from that point until 2007. Following a break of around nine years, the duo returned with the Ten Years EP back in 2017 and ever since that moment, they also scored six chart entries on my charts, including last weeks Slow Dancing (up 15-10 this week) and last years Joan Of Arc On The Dance Floor (#1 for one week, Gold certified). Their biggest hit was called Potential Breakup Song, a Top20 hit in the US back in 2007. Thirteen years later, the duo has decided to release a slightly different mix of the song and coincidentally with 2020 coming to an end, the new version of the Potential Breakup Song debuts at #1 this week as their seventh chart entry and second chart topper.

The top of the charts keeps being really strong with mostly still the same songs in the run for the crown, as Rina Sawayama stays at #2 with Lucid, Taylor Swift dips 1-3 with Willow and K/DA & The Co.‘s The Baddest (5-4) switches places with Ava Max‘ newly Gold certified My Head & My Heart (4-5).

Other new entries this week: Next in line is newcomer Tate McRae and her breakthrough single You Broke Me First at #12. The song has been a hit in several countries for months, but only finds its way onto my charts due to other year-end countdowns. Also making the upper half is Real Groove at #16, the next single of Kylie Minogue’s latest album Disco. The Australian legend has teamed up with British hitmaker Dua Lipa on a new remix of the song, giving them both reasons to celebrate as it’s Kylie’s tenth chart entry while Dua already scores her 20th notation with it. One Direction star Harry Styles keeps being on a high with his second solo album Fine Line, as he chose Treat People With Kindness as its sixth single and debuts at #23 with it. All five previous releases peaked inside the Top20, though only three debuted there. Justin Bieber’s Anyone (#27) and Apache 207’s Angst (#28) are the final two new arrivals of the week.

Other talking points this week: Besides the already mentioned Slow Dancing by Aly & AJ, there are some other notable climbers this week. Ed Sheeran scores his 15th Top10 hit as Afterglow rises 12-7. It’s even his highest peaking chart entry since Perfect peaked at #5 in the second half of 2017. He’s closely followed by Prisoner, that rises back into the Top10 for Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa (11-8), and Boyshit, that re-peaks for Madison Beer (10-9). Album Top20

The Album Top20 is as quiet as it only happens very rarely, as there are no new entries on the whole charts while just one album is able to re-enter the chart. The Top3 is occupied by the same albums as last week, just in a slightly different order as Finnish Symphonic Metal band Nightwish rise back up 3-1 with HUMAN. :||: NATURE. for a eighth non-consecutive week atop the charts. It continues its way to their previous two studio albums Imaginaerum (2011) and Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015), as both of them spent ten weeks on top each. Nightwish is currently the only artist with more than one album having spent ten or more weeks atop the charts and it may be possible that they extend their record with HUMAN. :||: NATURE. soon.

While Taylor Swift’s Evermore dips 1-2 after two weeks at number one, Miley Cyrus’ newly Gold certified Plastic Hearts slips 2-3 and completes the Top3.

Other talking points this week: The new year effect kicks in even more than last week and some highlights of 2020 rise even further. Grimes‘ Miss Anthropocene is up 6-4, K/DA’s All Out EP rises 9-5, Amaranthe’s Manifest jumps 13-6 and Lindsey Stirling’s Artemis surges 18-7. In the lower half of the charts, it’s Ellie Goulding’s Brightest Blue (14-11), Ava Max‘ Heaven & Hell (20-12), and to a lesser extent Taylor Swift’s Folklore (15-14) and Lady Gaga’s Chromatica (16-16) that benefit from the new year effect. The only re-entry on the charts also goes into that category, as it’s Kim Petras‘ Clarity that comes back to #15.

Bubbling Under

There are no debuts or re-entries on the Bubbling Under chart this week at all, which means that the three most successful albums of the week also occupy this list for yet another week. And since Nightwish rise back to the top spot on the Album Top20 with their latest album HUMAN. :||: NATURE., it’s also less surprising to see them back at number one on the bubbling under list. The lucky track is Shoemaker, that rises 3-1, closely followed by Music (5-2), while Pan increases 7-5 as their third entry.

Taylor Swift owns the second most successful album of the week with Evermore, and the singer also owns the next chart entry on the bubbling under list, as the HAIM assisted No Body, No Crime dips 1-3. Champagne Problems (9-8) and Evermore with Bon Iver (8-9) switch their spots, with the former reaching a new peak due to that.

Last but not least, Miley Cyrus still owns the most entries on this list, as she’s still charting with Gimme What I Want (2-4), WTF Do I Know (6-6), Night Crawling with Billy Idol (4-7) and Plastic Hearts (10-10).

Singles Top40

The first week of 2021 is over and it’s already starting to get a lot busier again, as there are ten new entries on the Singles Top40 this week. Aly & AJ are still able to defend the top spot with their Potential Breakup Song, becoming their first chart topper with multiple weeks on top now.

The highest of the ten new arrivals was Aly & AJ’s biggest competition and debuts at #2: Highway by Katja Krasavice feat. Elif. The German songstresses teamed up on what serves as the fourth single of Katja’s upcoming second album Eure Mami and while this is Elif’s very first notation, the arrival at #2 is Katja’s highest peak ever out of eight chart entries in total, surpassing Casino as her previous highest peaking chart entry (#3 in January 2020). Katja also keeps charting with the previous single Alles schon gesehen, that dips 17-18 in its fourth week. Blackmore’s Night’s Once Upon December recovers 6-3 and completes the Top3.

Other new entries this week: The second highest new arrival goes to Cellar Darling, a Folk Metal band from Switzerland. The band has released two albums so far, with This Is The Sound (2017) and The Spell (2019), both also having topped the album charts for one week each and the latter even got certified with Gold. Their brand new single is called Dance and it’s yet unknown if it’s part of an upcoming third album or just a stand alone track, though the song is a very unusual eleven minutes long. The track debuts at #6 as their sixth chart entry on the Singles Top40, and fifth to reach the Top10. Next in line is Canadian singer The Weeknd, as he finally chose Save Your Tears as the next proper single of his latest album After Hours. The song starts at #9 this week, and is already the fourth Top10 hit of the album following Heartless (#6), Blinding Lights (#1) and In Your Eyes (#2), making it his first album scoring that many Top10 hits.

Following two #5 peaking hits, German Schlager-Pop princess Vanessa Mai does slightly worse by coming in at #12 with her new single Leichter. Her upcoming fifth solo album Mai Tai still is on track to become her most successful album when it comes to single success though, plus it’s also the first time one of her album scores chart entries on the Singles Top40 in different calendar years (2020 and 2021), as her solo debut Für Dich only had two entries in 2016, Regenbogen got three entries in 2017, Schlager scored two hits in 2018 and Für immer caused two entries in 2019. Next up is Zara Larsson and her new single Talk About Love, a collaboration with Young Thug that debuts at #13. The Swedish singer has also finally announced her new album Poster Girl for a release in early March. Her last album So Good already gets four years old in mid march and was the most successful album in 2017 on my charts.

Just arriving in the upper half as well is Flames, a new single by Mod Sun featuring Avril Lavigne. The Canadian songstress is obviously no stranger to the charts and already collects her 19th chart hit with it (and all reached the Top20). However, Flames is the very first notation for the rather unknown American musician Mod Sun. American rapper Saweetie is also still rather unknown and may be one of the next big newcomers, as she’s slowly getting more and more hype with her music. For her new single Best Friend she’s teamed up with one of last years biggest newcomers, Doja Cat, and scores her very first chart notation with it, as the track debuts at #24.

The final three new entries are all somehow Drag Race related. First up is the song Cursed, by the very unknown singer Tony Ni Evans. The song features Jujubee, what is the main reason behind its chart entry, as Jujubee already scored several successful chart entries last year, also as part of the RuPaul’s Drag Race, All Stars 5 cast on the #1 hit Clapback. Gothy Kendoll was the first eliminated queen on the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in late 2019, and she’s teamed up with fellow Drag Race contestant Divina De CAmpo and fellow musician Forbid on a song called Switch, that is new at #33 this week. Last but not least, Yoncé Banks won the first season of Queen Of Drags, a German version of the series from late 2019. Even though Soldier is not her first single, it becomes her first chart entry by arriving at #38.

Other talking points this week: Rina Sawayama’s Lucid still places in the Top5, but dips 2-4. The song gets certified with Gold this week, being Rina’s very first certification ever. K/DA & Co.’s The Baddest (4-7) and Ava Max’ My Head & My Heart (5-8) have to leave the Top5 for their first time, though both keep on being very successful. Tate McRae scored a late debut for her breakthrough single You Broke Me First last week and already has even more reasons to celebrate, as the song becomes a Top10 hit this week (12-10). Following a short resurge, Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa’s Prisoner drops 8-17 this week and is as low as never before, though the song goes Gold this week.

Lil Nas X’ Holiday rises back up 40-35 as the biggest climber while Kylie Minogue & Dua Lipa’s Real Groove drops 16-39 as the biggest loser this week.

We are in the first real week of 2021 and the year already starts with three new releases, that all arrive in the upper half without making a really big splash. The two most successful albums remain untouched, as Nightwish still goes strong with their HUMAN. :||: NATURE. and score a ninth non-consecutive week atop the charts, closely followed by Taylor Swift’s Evermore, that stays at #2. Both albums are neck on neck right now.

The highest of the three new entries goes to Swiss singer Jaël and her new record called Sinfonia. The singer has re-recorded several of her hit songs with an orchestra and the album works, arriving at #3 this week. This entry solidifies her status as one of the biggest Swiss artists on my charts, as Sinfonia is already her fifth Top5 entry following the Gold certified Shuffle The Card (#3 in 2015), Acoustic (#2 in 2016), Orkestra (#5 in 2017) and Nothing To Hide (#3 in 2019).

Other new and re-entries this week: The second highest new entry goes to British singer-songwriter Passenger. He keeps being very productive, as his new set Songs For The Drunk And Broken Hearted is already his seventh entry since making his chart debut with Whispers in late 2014. His last release called Patchwork missed out on the upper half as his first album doing so (#13 in mid 2020), but Songs For The Drunk And Broken Hearted proves to be an improvement again and does better by arriving at #6. American R&B songstress Jazmine Sullivan is the opposite of Passenger, as she hasn’t released a new album since January 2015, and her new set Heaux Tales marks her comeback to the music business. Bubbling Under

Similar to the Singles Top40 and Album Top20, the Bubbling Under chart also gets a little bit busier again this week with four new arrivals, though none of them came close to the top, where Nightwish still go strong with Shoemaker (1-1) and Music (2-2), while the Finnish Symphonic Metal band also keeps charting with Pan (5-8).

The highest of the four new entries goes to Swiss singer Jaël and Reminded For Life, the opener and a single of her new album Sinfonia, that also scores the highest entry on the Album Top20 this week. She’s not too far above One Direction star Zayn, who released Vibez as his new single and debuts at #6 with it. The song was released as the second single of his newly announced third album Nobody Is Listening, that will already be released next week. Taylor Swift owns the other two new entries this week, as she released a new deluxe edition of her latest surprise hit album Evermore, including the two new songs It’s Time To Go (#9) and Right Where You Left Me (#10). The singer is also still going strong with the HAIM assisted No Body, No Crime (3-3), though she leaves the charts with Champagne Problems (ex #8) and Evermore feat. Bon Iver (ex #9) this week.

Miley Cyrus completes the Bubbling Under chart, as even though she loses two tracks with Night Crawling (ex #7) and Plastic Hearts (ex #10), she still charts with Gimme What I Want (4-5) and WTF Do I Know (6-7).

Yes, I knew you would like that debut for "Save Your Tears". Definitely the perfect single choice and most likely another hit for The Weeknd. It's kinda interesting how Italian radios are always one of the first radio stations in the world (or at least in Europe) to play new singles.

"Talk About Love" is a good single for Zara, though not her best of course. Really excited that she's finally announced her new album "Poster Girl". Also yes to the love for Taylor's new songs
