Singles Top40

Following some busy weeks due to concert effects for Lindsey Stirling and Ariana Grande – two of the most successful artists of My Charts and therefore bigger than usual concert effects – it was expected to be more normal this week with these effects calming down. Surprisingly, it turned out to be just as busy as previously, as there were tons of new releases including some very anticipated ones, but also some unexpected ones. Not all made it to the Singles Top40 in the end, but there are still ten new arrivals and one re-entry, with the Top6 being full of new entries.

New atop the charts is a cover of the classic “Phantom Of The Opera”, sung by Floor Jansen and Henk Poort. Both are part of the current season of the Dutch TV show ‘Beste Zangers’, where several popular Dutch singers come together to cover each others songs. There was an episode where they did duets and Henk Poort was known for being the singer of the ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ musicals many years ago while Floor Jansen is the frontwoman of the symphonic metal band Nightwish who is known for having covered “Phantom Of The Opera” over a decade ago as well, so they both decided to do this one as their collaboration and it ended up as a spectacle, getting tons of reaction videos on YouTube and even charted on the Dutch Singles Charts, which is not only fantastic for the artists themselves, but also for this kind of song in 2019. The song also makes a stellar start on My Charts by debuting at #1 as the first entry for both artists, though Floor already got entries as part of the bands Nightwish and Northward in the past.

This week also marks the return of Selena Gomez – but she actress-turned-singer not only released one new song, but two! The ballad “Lose You To Love Me” was first on Wednesday, with the uptempo track “Look At Her Now” having been released a day afterwards on Thursday. Both songs serve as a first taste of her upcoming third solo album. Ever since her musical breakthrough with “Falling Down” 10 years ago, Selena has become a force on the charts and so it’s less surprising to see both songs arriving in the Top5, with “Look At Her Now” being new at #3 and “Lose You To Love Me” starting at #5. Shockingly, the latter is only her sixth song to miss out a Top3 spot (so far) from 28 chart entries in total.

Filling out the Top3 is the German Pagan-Folk band Faun. The band will release their new album “Märchen & Mythen” next month and continue to be either hit or miss on the Singles Top40, as their singles usually get high peaks or don’t enter at all. Their current single “Sieben Raben” debuts at #2 as their third chart entry to date following “Federkleid” (#2 in 2016, Gold) and “Feuer” (#3 in 2018), though it’s already the second single of the album with the lead not being able to enter the Top40 so far.

Other new and re-entries this week: The Dark Element scored five back to back Top2 hits with the four singles from their self-titled debut in 2017 and their latest single "Songs The Night Sings", but "The Pallbearer Walks Alone", which serves as the second single of their upcoming second studio album, fails to continue that streak by debuting at #4. There's a chance to see the song getting a new peak with a possible album release boost though, as the record already gets released in two weeks. German Schlager-Pop princess Vanessa Mai is also part of the Top6 new arrivals, but she even gets two entries at once this week. A week ago, Vanessa announced her fourth solo album called "Für immer" for a January 2020 release. The announcement was made alongside the release of its lead single "Venedig (Love Is In The Air)", which failed to make the main chart then but finally does so now by arriving at #32. This week a second single already saw the light of day with "Ja nein vielleicht", a collaboration with German producer duo Stereoact. The track debuts at #6 as the clearly stronger tune of the two.

Kesha is back! The singer had a wild career so far, from a record-setting debut single to a streak of US Top10 hits, to several really deep lows in her career to a comeback that no one expected two years ago. Back then, the singer dropped the ballad "Praying" that got a lot of critical acclaim, but didn't get the success it would have deserved. After a short break, the singer seems to go back to the music she did with her debut, so more fun and more uptempo, which gets proven with the lead single "Raising Hell", a collaboration with Big Freedia. The song debuts at #14, making it her 16th chart entry but first lead single without a Top2 debut. The remaining two new entries and the shortly mentioned re-entry all have to do with the Eurovision Song Contest. Duncan Laurence won the crown for his home country Netherlands earlier this year with the fantastic track "Arcade" - five months later, he has finally released the follow-up single called "Love Don't Hate It", which makes a respectable debut at #13. Artsvik represented Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 and despite being a fan favorite, she didn't do that well in the Grand Final as her entry called "Fly With Me" was most likely too abstract for people who aren't familiar with the entries prior the contest. The track ended up as the only song from the ESC 2017 to top the weekly chart on My Charts and is tied with the French entry ("Requiem" by Alma) as the second most successful entry from that year, only behind Blanche's "City Lights" (Belgium). Artsvik finally gets a second chart entry this week as her new single "Bang Bang" starts at #18. Last but not least, Conchita Wurst has been preparing the release of the new album "Truth Over Magnitude" with several singles for quite a while and this week was finally the album release week, which boosted the single "Hit Me" enough for a re-entry at #22.

Other talking points this week: As mentioned, the concert effects for Lindsey and Ariana are calming down. Lindsey is still charting with "Artemis" (3-8; first week outside the Top3 after eight weeks), "Crystallize" (11-30) & "Master Of Tides" (17-39) with "Roundtable Rival" (ex #28), "First Light" (ex #34) and "Underground" (ex #34) leaving the Top40 while Ariana is still charting with "No Tears Left To Cry" (2-10), "Into You" (4-21), "Break Free" (5-23), "7 Rings" (13-24, certified with Gold ) & "God Is A Woman" (25-31) with "The Light Is Coming" (ex #32) and "Break Up With Your Girlfriend..." (ex #33) leaving the Top40. In a week with that many new entries, it's less surprising to see just one song in the Top40 actually moving up the charts and that one is even reaching a new peak: "South Of The Border" by Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello & Cardi B (20-17). The song seems to finally break the curse for Ed & Cardi who have struggled with their latest releases when it comes to success. Maren Morris' "The Bones" (12-19) and Grimes & i_o' "Violence" (16-27) may be both on their ways down, but both songs get certified with Gold this week. This is a reason for joy especially when it comes to Maren, as this is the first single certification for the Country-Pop starlet.

As the only climber this week, “South Of The Border” by Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello and Cardi B is also the obvious biggest climber while Lindsey Stirling’s “Master Of Tides” is the biggest loser this week.

Lindsey Stirling’s “Artemis” spends an eighth consecutive week atop the charts, making it the longest running number one album since Nightwish’s “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” spent ten weeks at number one back in 2015. It’s just the second album since the invention of the Album Charts in 2010 with eight or more consecutive weeks atop, following Selena Gomez & The Scene’s “When The Sun Goes Down” with ten consecutive weeks at #1 in mid 2010. Despite all that, it has to be said that this was by far the weakest week for the album since its release and with a busier schedule next month, it will be tough to get to ten weeks.

In another busy week with five new arrivals, Eliane, a Swiss singer-songwriter and winner of the second ‘Swiss Got Talent’ season back in 2012, owns the highest debut with her fifth studio album simply called “Eliane” at #2. All previous albums always got a high peak on the official Swiss Album Charts and even improved their peaks to her previous release (#4, #3, #2 and #1), so it will be interesting to see how this new record will do. As for My Charts, “Eliane” is her second appearance so far following 2017’s “Slow Motion” which debuted and peaked at #4.

Other new entries this week: Once called ‘Queen Of Europe’ due to winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 for Austria, Conchita Wurst finally returns with the third album called “Truth Over Magnitude”. The self titled debut album was released nearly a year after the ESC victory and peaked at #2 in mid 2015, while the rather special “From Vienna With Love” with the Wiener Symphoniker (an orchestra) peaked at #8 exactly a year ago. “Truth Over Magnitude” does better again by arriving at #3 with the current potential of becoming a surprise hit for Conchita. From one ESC artist to another… Michael Schulte represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 and ended up with a strong fourth position at the Grand Final. He finally released a new album called “Highs & Lows” which becomes his first album notation at #5. James Blunt also owns one of the new entries as his new set “Once Upon A Mind” debuts at #10 – slightly lower than the peak of his last record “The Afterlife”, though that one only spent two weeks on the chart overall and fell 7-20-Out. The fifth and final new entry of the week is the EP called “Hallucinations” by PVRIS. Their second album “All We Know Of Heaven…” didn’t set the charts on fire, but still made it to #6 two years ago despite never scoring a hit on the Singles Top40. The “Hallucinations” EP does slightly worse and just misses out a debut in the upper half as it’s new at #11.

Other talking points this week: Despite all the new entries, Tim Bendzko’s “Filter” (4-4), James Arthur’s “You” (5-6) and Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Time” (6-8) all have great second week drops. Babymetal’s “Metal Galaxy” already drops 3-7 after reaching a new peak last week. Similar to the Singles Top40, Lindsey’s and Ariana’s concert effects are also calming down on the Album Top20, with Lindsey still charting with “Brave Enough” (7-13), “Lindsey Stirling” (9-17) & “Shatter Me” (10-19) with “Live From London” leaving the Top20 (ex #13) while Ariana is still charting with “Sweetener” (2-9) and “Thank U, Next” (14-15). After a great start for both, Lana Del Rey’s “Norman F*****g Rockwell!” (ex #15) and Tarja’s “In The Raw” (ex #18) both leave the Top20 this week, making them their least successful studio albums to date.

Bubbling Under

The Bubbling Under chart continues with being a place for several “Artemis” album tracks, though the violinist keeps losing entries week by week. Her Amy Lee collaboration “Love Goes On And On” keeps on smashing and gets a fifth consecutive week at #1, while “Sleepwalking” (3-5) and “Foreverglow” (4-7) are the only other remaining songs by Lindsey Stirling.

As mentioned on the Singles Top40, it was a very busy week with lots of new releases but not all of them made the main chart. A few of them are arriving on the Bubbling Under chart instead with “Faith” by Galantis, Dolly Parton & Mr. Probz at #6 and Louis Tomlinson’s “We Made It” at #10. Other new releases that were expected to chart but even fail to do so on the Bubbling Under list are Coldplay with two new songs (“Arabesque” and “Orphans”), Guy Sebastian’s new mix of his single “Choir” featuring Samantha Jade, Liam Payne’s “All I Want (For Christmas)", Lizzo’s new remix of “Good As Hell” featuring Ariana Grande, Låpsley’s “My Love Was Like The Rain” and maybe even some entries from Eliane, PVRIS or James Blunt. But it has become a trend to see some new releases taking more time to fully blossom and enter the chart a week later than usual, so some of these may still arrive on the charts next week.

In addition to “Faith” and “We Made It”, there is also a third debut on the Bubbling Under chart with Tim Bendzko’s “Für immer” at #3. The song is from his current album “Filter” and has become the clear standout from the non-singles songs.

Ariana Grande’s “Bad Idea” (2-2), Babymetal’s “Oh! MAJINAI” (5-8) and Au/Ra & Alan Walker’s “Ghost” (7-9) fill out the chart.

Another week, another number one – but the crown basically stays in the family. While Floor Jansen made a top debut with the cover of “Phantom Of The Opera” together with Henk Poort a week ago (down 1-2), it’s Nightwish where she’s the frontwoman who make a top debut with “Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean” this week. The symphonic metal pioneers will release a live album called “Decades: Live In Buenos Aires” in early December and have released “Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean” as the first single this week. It becomes their seventh top hit out of 15 chart entries in total. This is a first taste of what may happen next year, as they will release their first proper studio album in five years in 2020 and the expectations are very high, as their last two studio albums spent ten weeks atop the Album Top20 each and their last lead single “Élan” topped the Singles Top40 for seven weeks in 2015, being one of the most successful singles since the singles charts became a Top40 in early 2013.

It’s a rather busy week with nine debuts in total and the second of these completes the Top3: “Island Of Doom” by Agnes Obel. The Danish singer-songwriter has announced her upcoming new album “Myopia” for a February 2020 release, with “Island Of Doom” serving as its lead single. The track is new at #3 as her fourth chart entry so far, with her last lead single “Familiar” being by far her biggest success to date (#2 in 2016, certified with Platinum).

Other new and re-entries this week: Dua Lipa is finally back and just released the lead single of her upcoming, highly anticipated second studio album. The track is called “Don’t Start Now” and has gathered a lot of hype prior its release. The song immediately becomes Dua’s second highest peaking single ever as it’s new at #4, with only “New Rules” having a higher peak from her discography so far (#3 in 2017). Overall, “Don’t Start Now” is Dua’s 11th chart entry and fourth Top10 hit (the other two being the #7 peaking “Be The One” and the #5 peaking “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris). Bastille and Alessia Cara are definitely no strangers to the charts and while both enjoyed a lot of success with their breakthrough eras, both also struggled to get a hit with their sophomore releases – until now. Sometimes two artists that start to underperform just need to collaborate on one song and that’s what they did on the song “Another Place” that enters the charts at #13. This is Bastille’s seventh and shockingly also already their highest peaking chart entry ever while it’s Alessia’s fifth chart entry to date and her highest since the Zedd collaboration “Stay” peaked at #4 in mid 2017. Also getting a Top20 debut is Jamie-Lee Kriewitz’ comeback single “Flying” at #16. Jamie-Lee won The Voice Of Germany in 2015 and represented Germany on the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The track “Ghost” not only served as the winner single for The Voice, but was also her Eurovision entry and became a big chart success with three weeks at number one and a Platinum certification. Unfortunately, her Gold certified debut album “Berlin” only spawned one more single (“Wild One”, #8 peak) and it’s been quiet ever since, so “Flying” is only her third chart entry to date. Noah Cyrus’ “****younoah” with London On Da Track is a sixth new entry in the upper half at #20.

Three more debuts to go! K-Pop star Taeyeon released her second full-length solo album “Purpose” a few days ago alongside its first single “Spark”. The track debuts at #21 as her third chart entry to date, with “Make Me Love You” (#15 in 2017) and “Four Seasons” (#37 earlier this year) being her other entries. Mike Shinoda is best known for being one of the co-founders of Linkin Park. In summer 2018 he released his solo debut album “Post Traumatic” and got surprisingly successful with it, as it peaked at #2. Despite that, the set failed to spawn an entry on the Singles Top40 but Mike finally gets his first entry on the Singles Top40 this week as his new single “Fine” arrives at #24. The ninth and final debut is “Candy” by Loïc Nottet at #30, a Halloween song by the former Belgian ESC represent.

Other talking points this week: Selena Gomez’ comeback is a huge charts success all over the world – unfortunately, it looks different on My Charts as both songs are definitely not performing as well as most of her previous single releases. Both songs spend a second week in the Top10 nonetheless, with “Lose You To Love Me” dipping 5-6 and “Look At Her Now” falling 3-7. Duncan Laurence’ “Love Don’t Hate It” (13-8) and Kesha’s “Raising Hell” (14-10) both climb into the Top10 following their debuts a week ago, giving the former a second Top10 hit and preventing the latter from her first underperformance with a lead single. Conchita Wurst’s “Hit Me” also jumps a lot following its re-entry a week ago (22-11). In its tenth week, Lindsey Stirling’s “Artemis” has to leave the Top10 for the first time (8-12). With “Crystallize” (ex #30) and “Master Of Tides” (ex #39) leaving the Top40, “Artemis” is the only charting song for the violinist now. Ariana Grande’s concert effect is also nearly gone, with “No Tears Left To Cry” dropping 10-27 and “Into You” (21-32), “7 Rings” (23-33) & “Break Free” (23-39) all being at the bottom of the chart now. Last but not least, Babymetal’s “Shanti Shanti Shanti” (7-18) and The Dark Element’s “The Pallbearer Walks Alone” (4-19) have rather unexpected big declines this week.

Conchita Wurst’s “Hit Me” is the biggest climber while Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry” is the biggest loser this week.

Album Top20

The Album Top20 continues with being busy as there are another five new arrivals on the chart this week, though this is rather normal as we’re currently in the middle of the fourth quarter of 2019. Despite that, the clear frontrunners aren’t new entries this week. Conchita Wurst had a surprisingly strong second week with his third studio album “Truth Over Magnitude”. The set nearly became Conchita’s first number one album but climbs 3-2 in the end. Lindsey Stirling continues with her amazing run atop the charts with “Artemis” getting a ninth consecutive week there, though it was close to slipping down one spot. The violinist only needs one more week to tie Selena Gomez & The Scene’s “When The Sun Goes Down” as the longest running number one album when it comes to consecutive weeks atop the chart. This may be tough for her to reach, as The Dark Element will debut with their second album next week which is expected to be a clear frontrunner based on the name, but at the same time their new singles didn’t do as well as the singles from their first record, so there will be an exciting battle for the top spot.

The highest of the five new arrivals is Miranda Lambert’s “Wildcard”. The American country superstar has released her seventh studio album that enters the charts at #3 as her second chart entry so far following her previous release “The Weight Of These Wings” (#2 in late 2016).

Other new entries this week: K-Pop singer Taeyeon continues with her Top10 streak as “Purpose – The 2nd Album” becomes her fourth consecutive album to peak in the upper half by arriving at #4. It’s her highest debuting album to date and ties “My Voice – The 1st Album” from 2017 as her highest peaking album overall. She also charted with “This Christmas – Winter Is Coming” (#7 in 2017) and “Something New” (#5 in 2018). The reboot of the famous ‘Charlie’s Angels’ movie will make its debut in the cinemas later this month, but the soundtrack just got released and makes its debut at #8. The other two new entries miss out a debut in the upper half, though they’re both EPs compared to the full-length albums that debuted in the upper half. Belgian singer Loïc Nottet is mostly known for representing his country on the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 where he ended up with a fantastic fourth place. Ever since his participation, he released some singles and a debut album called “Selfocracy” became a hit as well (#2 in 2017, certified with Gold). As a big Halloween fan, he just put out a Halloween inspired EP called “Candy” that enters the chart at #12. He’s closely followed by Gabriella Cilmi’s new EP “The Water” at #13. This is Gabriella’s first entry on the Album Top20 since “The Sting” debuted and peaked at #3 in late 2013 and her third appearance overall, as her second studio album “Ten” topped the charts for two weeks in 2010 and ended up with a Platinum certification.

Other talking points this week: James Arthur’s “You” (6-6) and Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Time” (8-9) get a third week in the upper half despite having no hit on the Singles Top40 at the moment. Besides “Artemis”, Lindsey Stirling is still charting with “Brave Enough” (13-19) while “Lindsey Stirling” (ex #17) & “Shatter Me” (ex #19) leave the chart this week. Ariana is still having two entries as well with “Sweetener” (9-15) and “Thank U, Next” (15-18). “Sweetener” even gets certified with 3x Platinum this week, making it Ariana’s highest certified album to date.

Bubbling Under

Lindsey Stirling is not only topping the Album Top20 for a ninth week with her current album “Artemis”, the album also had several strong album cuts that dominated the Bubbling Under chart over these weeks and this week marks the first time in over two months the violinist doesn’t have the number one, as “Love Goes On And On” dips 1-3 while “Sleepwalking” (5-8) and “Foreverglow” (7-9) keep decreasing as well.

New atop the chart is Conchita Wurst’s “Satori”. The song has emerged as a clear highlight from his new album “Truth Over Magnitude” and debuts at #1. The Austrian singer even gets another debut with “Under The Gun” arriving at #2.

There are a bunch of new singles that were released this week but weren’t strong enough to make the main chart. While “Sieben Raben” is still doing really well on the Singles Top40, German Pagan-Folk band Faun already put out “Aschenbrödel”, the third single of their upcoming new album. The song is new at #6. R&B singer Miguel follows them with his new single “Funeral” at #7. Also making the Bubbling Under chart is Kiesza’s new single “You’re The Best” at #10. Besides these three, HAIM’s “Now I’m In It”, Martin Garrix & Dean Lewis’ “Used To Love”, ALMA & Tove Lo’s “Worst Behaviour”, Alan Walker’s “Avem (The Aviation Theme)”, Sigrid’s “Home To You” and Saara Aalto’s double single “Tähdet, taivas ja sä / Koska et oo täällä enää” were all possible new entries for this week as well, but they failed to make a further impact so far and even miss out an entry on the Bubbling Under chart.

Tim Bendzko’s “Für immer” (3-4) and Ariana Grande’s “Bad Idea” (2-5) make the Bubbling Under chart complete.

Well, this doesn't happen that often with us two but iirc we already had a similar situation when it came to the album tracks of Britney's "Glory" But it looks like "Miss Americana" is either hit or miss for the fans, as I already saw several fans ranking it among their faves on the album while others put it at the bottom, so like you. Usually, these songs don't get a single release, so my wish most likely won't come true (but I'm fine with it, as long as the next single is a success and to be fair, there's no weak song on "Lover" so I'm fine with every song being a proper single).

Ah, I'd forgotten about that! Does that mean you hate "Man On The Moon"? I vaguely recall a lot of fans supporting "Just Luv Me" and "Slumber Party" (even before it was a single), and both of those rank toward the bottom of Glory for me.

I think this situation gets better once they know me better and vice versa. Well, it's a leading position, so that was a motivation (taking a step further with my career & more responsibility and more interesting duties) plus better salary (despite having to work less 'theoretically'). It comes out in three weeks and we still have no clue about starter evolutions etc.

Aw, thanks for taking some time to give Ariana the honor She really put on a fantastic show and performed so many of her big hits, that was really cool. A shame my seats weren't the best (I had fantastic seats for her cancelled 2017 concert). "7 Rings" may get to Gold thanks to that concert effect now, as it's really close. Ha, good observation about "Bad Idea" - it actually ended up as the best performed non-single and you know what, thanks to the concert is has become my most favorite song on the TUN album

Woah, that's pretty major! Do you mean it's become your overall favorite on the album, or your favorite non-single? It's one of my TUN favorites too, but it'd come behind the title track and "Ghostin" for me.

Hmm... "Harleys" is a tricky one. Compared to pre-NRO, it's obviously one of her weakest singles to date, but compared to "Small Talk" it's much better IMO. But then, I remember you actually enjoyed "Small Talk" and "Harleys" is another direction musically, so I get why you're not satisfied with it.

• Queen Selena's gorgeous comeback ballad entered at No. 5?! Then fell a spot?!? Well, at least it's above "Look At Her Now" this week. I really didn't expect LAHN to debut higher than LYTLM on your chart! (Too mad at all the randoms above her to bother giving them a chance now, obviously).
• I'm a little underwhelmed by "Don't Start Now," but the hype for it was incredibly high (especially after she dropped those tasty teasers). I like it, I was just hoping to LOVE it - but I'm still very excited to discover what else her second era will bring.
• Kesha got somewhat lost in the shuffle for me due to other recent releases from Selena, HAIM, The 1975, etc, but "Raising Hell" is pretty solid. It feels like a natural progression from her last album's sound/style (without sounding TOO similar to any particular Rainbow song). Catchy, rousing, anthemic fun.
• Bastille + Alessia Cara are an interesting combo, and I had no idea they put out a collabo! They blend together quite nicely.

Ah, no, I never hated it, but I still remember how it was #1 on your charts, on Jake's chart as well iirc and some others also loved it, while it was one of my least favorite songs on the record and I used to skip it at first. But it started to grow on me I think after 2-3 weeks. Sadly, looking back, the album may have been a nice listen when it came out, but nothing sticked with me at all. There's nothing I play from "Glory" these days while I still play some songs from her other albums every now and then. How about you?

Kind of, but it doesn't hold my attention for too long It definitely looks cute, but I could see myself getting really bored and/or frustrated with the many dungeon puzzles.

NoOoOoOoOo Well, I guess that (hopefully) means your life is so full of other worthwhile things now (new upgraded job, awesome partner, epic concerts, maybe some vacations too) that games just don't have the same allure anymore. Apparently there were some massive SwSh leaks over the past few days, but I'm trying to avoid them for once, since Game Freak/Nintendo did such a good job of not revealing too much in official trailers this time around.

Ah, makes sense. And that's actually also why I didn't play anymore, as I've been stuck somewhere and have no idea to solve that puzzle to go fruther, and I'm still too early in the game to get myself spoilered... but I guess I have to spoil myself with the solution, otherwise I never get further into the game

That's probably the case. I mean, the last time I was really obsessed with playing games was around nine years ago and I moved out from home im summer 2010, so that can't be a coincidence. Ah, my brother told me about those leaks as well but I'm still avoiding them too. It's a shame those leaks happened as otherwise it would have been the first time in ages we barely have informations about a new generation. Do you already know which version you will buy?

Woah, that's pretty major! Do you mean it's become your overall favorite on the album, or your favorite non-single? It's one of my TUN favorites too, but it'd come behind the title track and "Ghostin" for me.

Overall! My (clear) Top3 at this point is "Bad Idea", "Thank U, Next" and - surprise, surprise - "7 Rings"! "Ghostin" would be fourth and tied with "Break Up...". Speaking of Ariana/her album, have you revisited the album lately? Because since the concert the record grew a bit on me and I don't think it's such a huge disappointment anymore.

• Queen Selena's gorgeous comeback ballad entered at No. 5?! Then fell a spot?!? Well, at least it's above "Look At Her Now" this week. I really didn't expect LAHN to debut higher than LYTLM on your chart! (Too mad at all the randoms above her to bother giving them a chance now, obviously).
• I'm a little underwhelmed by "Don't Start Now," but the hype for it was incredibly high (especially after she dropped those tasty teasers). I like it, I was just hoping to LOVE it - but I'm still very excited to discover what else her second era will bring.
• Kesha got somewhat lost in the shuffle for me due to other recent releases from Selena, HAIM, The 1975, etc, but "Raising Hell" is pretty solid. It feels like a natural progression from her last album's sound/style (without sounding TOO similar to any particular Rainbow song). Catchy, rousing, anthemic fun.
• Bastille + Alessia Cara are an interesting combo, and I had no idea they put out a collabo! They blend together quite nicely.

Yet another angelic chart, Tancel!

Glad to hear you're actually enjoying Selena's long awaited comeback (and she also hit #1 on your charts - congrats!). Unfortunately, even though I like "Lose You To Love Me", it's definitely one of her weaker singles to date. But to be fair, most of her singles were always very good and I still enjoy most of them, so it was hard to top all that especially because my expectations were so big after that long break and after what she's released in 2017. "Look At Her Now" got stuck in my head and I played it more than LYTLM in the first week, that's why it debuted higher, but it looks like the latter will have a longer lasting effect on me.

As for the small, white part: Don't worry, I think you wouldn't enjoy most or even all entries above Selena this/last week (not including Dua obviously). They're all from the symphonic metal genre or Pagan-Folk. But if you'd still like to check out one of those, I'd really recommend you to listen to Floor Jansen & Henk Poort's "Phantom Of The Opera" - it's a flawless, must-see live performance and I'm already quite sure that I'll still love their performance in five or more years.

Aw, sad to hear that about Dua. I felt similar at first, but the song grew on me very quickly and is stuck in my head since a few days now, so fingers crossed something similar will happen with you as well!

Yes to Kesha! "Raising Hell" has been another grower. How did she do in the past for you? Is Kesha a successful artist on your charts?

Singles Top40

With eight new and one re-entry on the Singles Top40, it looks like a busy-as-usual week on first sight, but it was actually quieter than many previous weeks and some of those new entries definitely benefitted from that.

The Dark Element – a project by Swedish singer Anette Olzon, mostly known as a former Nightwish frontwoman, and Finnish musician & producer Jani Liimatainen – have released their second album called “Songs The Night Sings”. The set already spawned two singles with its title track and “The Pallbearer Walks Alone”. Both songs didn’t perform as well as the four singles from their self-titled debut album or from Anette Olzon’s work as solo artist, so the expectations to the new album lowered over the last few weeks. However, with the album being out now and exceeding these expectations by far, both singles get huge boosts this week. “Songs The Night Sings” re-enters the charts right atop, giving it a second week at number one, while “The Pallbearer Walks Alone” jumps 19-5 in its third charting week. A few days ago, The Dark Element also put out the third single called “Not Your Monster” that enters the charts at #2.

Dua Lipa completes the Top3 with “Don’t Start Now”, which rises 4-3 to tie “New Rules” as her highest peaking chart entry to date.

Other new and re-entries this week: FKA twigs isn’t known as a reliable hit maker so far. The singer got her first overall chart entry with “M3LL155X” on the Album Top20 back in 2015, while her first and only entry on the Singles Top40 so far was the song “Good To Love” (#27 in 2016). Both were her only chart appearances up until now, as she finally released her new album called “Magdalene” that has a good debut on the Album Top20 and also spawns the single “Sad Day” that enters the Singles Top40 at #13. Romanian dance-pop queen Inna is back with a new single called “Bebe”. It’s a collaboration with Vinka and debuts at #20. Having released her second album earlier this year, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea is already preparing the release of a new EP with its lead single “Lola”. The song is a collaboration with Alice Chater and makes it to #24.

There are still four more new entries to go and all of them are near the bottom of the Top40. German singer Adel Tawil debuts at #33 with “DNA”, the follow-up track to his surprise hit “Tu m’appelles” (#11 earlier this year). The Script are not only debuting on the Album Top20 with their new album, they also arrive at #35 on the Singles Top40 with their current single “The Last Time” as their second chart entry to date. The final two songs both made short appearances on the Bubbling Under chart some weeks ago but failed to make a further impact so far. Due to this being not the busiest week, they are finally appearing on the main chart now with Au/Ra & Alan Walker’s “Ghost” being new at #36 and Galantis & Dolly Parton feat. Mr. Probz’ “Faith” being new at #39.

Other talking points this week: Agnes Obel’s “Island Of Doom” remains strong and slips 3-4. Nightwish’s “Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean” and Floor Jansen & Henk Poort’s “Phantom Of The Opera” may be fantastic live performances, but as usual, live tracks don’t really do as well on the charts compared to how good the performances actually are, with the former falling 1-6 and the latter dropping 2-7. Meghan Trainor seems to have one of the biggest surprise hits of the year, as her latest release “Wave” not only became her first chart-topping entry, but also proves to have nice longevity. Originally, the singer already wanted to release her third album “Treat Myself” over a year ago but had to delay the album – until now! This week, she finally announced the final and real release date and that’s the 31st January 2020, with “Wave” being part of the album tracklist as well. Alongside the announcement, she also performed the track for the first time live and all that pushes “Wave” back up 15-8. Lindsey Stirling’s “Artemis” is also climbing back, though just one spot compared to a week ago (12-11). The song gets certified with Platinum this week, which means all singles she has released this year reached that milestone. Hailee Steinfeld may leave the Top20 with “Afterlife” (17-21), but she also celebrates another certification as the track goes Gold. Similar to the new entries at the bottom of the Top40, some other songs also benefit from a slightly more quiet week with “The Bones” by Maren Morris (26-25), “Dancing In The Smoke” by Keiino (25-26), “South Of The Border” by Ed Sheeran & Co. (28-27) and “Better” by Lena & Nico Santos (34-31) all being relatively stable.

The Dark Element’s “The Pallbearer Walks Alone” is the biggest climber while Noah Cyrus & London On Da Track’s “****younoah” drops 20-40 as the biggest loser this week.

Album Top20

With another four new arrivals and one re-entry on the charts, the Album Top20 has yet another busy week and the battle for the top spot was held between Lindsey Stirling’s “Artemis” and The Dark Element’s new record “Songs The Night Sings”. The former is still going strong even in its tenth week while the latter would have been the clear frontrunner if the two singles wouldn’t have underperformed compared to the singles from their first record, so the battle for the top spot was more interesting than initially expected.

In the end, it’s “Songs The Night Sings” that wins the race for the crown and it did it easily after all, as the full record exceeded the latest expectations. The Dark Element is a project by Finnish musician and producer Jani Liimatainen & former Nightwish frontwoman and Swedish singer Anette Olzon. While the former as never made a chart entry outside of this project so far, Anette already had big hits with her former band Nightwish, as a solo artist and obviously with this project as well. As for her solo discography, “Songs The Night Sings” is her third consecutive number one album following “Shine” (#1 for 8 weeks in 2014, back at #18 this week) & the self-titled debut of The Dark Element (#1 for 4 weeks in 2017), while “Imaginaerum” (#1 for 10 weeks in 2011/2012) and “Dark Passion Play” (#5) were successes for her as part of Nightwish. “Dark Passion Play” would have been a long-running number one album as well but it was originally released in 2007, two and a half years before the album charts started.

Lindsey Stirling’s “Artemis” dips 1-2 after nine weeks atop, followed by Conchita Wurst’s “Truth Over Magnitude” (2-3).

Other new and re-entries this week: FKA twigs has released her second studio album called “Magdalene” that becomes her second chart appearance at #4. Her only previous charting album was “M3LL155X” that peaked at #2 over four years ago. Former X Factor star Ella Henderson even took five years from her first release “Chapter One” (#4 in 2014) to her new EP called “Glorious” (new at #7). The Script own the fourth and final debut of the week as their new album “Sunsets & Full Moon” starts at #8 – slightly higher than the peak of their previous chart entry “Freedom Child” (#10 in 2017).

Other talking points this week: Miranda Lambert’s “Wildcard” (3-5) and Taeyeon’s “Purpose” (4-6) are pretty stable in the upper half, with James Arthur’s “You” (6-9) getting an impressive fourth week in that territory while still being without an entry on the Singles Top40. Ariana Grande’s concert effect is about to be completely vanished when it comes to the Singles Top40, but her albums still climb back up with “Sweetener” going up 15-14 and “Thank U, Next” even jumping 18-13, being even higher than its re-entry at #14 right after her concert. Last but not least and speaking of Ariana, even though the popular singer owns several songs on the “Charlie’s Angel” soundtrack, the set still drops 8-17 in its second week.

Bubbling Under

The Dark Element crush the Bubbling Under chart, as five tracks from their new album “Songs The Night Sings” make in onto the chart. New atop is the disco-metal track “Pill On My Pillow”, closely followed by “When It All Comes Down” at #2. “Get Out Of My Head” (#4), “Silence Between The Words” (#5) and “To Whatever End” (#6) are the other entries from the album. This is the first time an artist has that many entries since Lindsey Stirling’s “Artemis” brought several album tracks onto the chart a few weeks ago.

A sixth debut finds its way onto the Bubbling Under chart with “Workin’ On It” by Meghan Trainor, Lennon Stella and Sasha Sloan at #7. The song was released alongside the announcement of the final release date of Meghan’s upcoming third album “Treat Myself”.

Conchita Wurst entered the chart with two album tracks from his current record “Truth Over Magnitude” last week, with both of these tracks surviving another week. “Satori” is sandwiched between some The Dark Element tracks and slips 1-3, while “Under The Gun” drops 2-9.

Lindsey Stirling & Amy Lee’s “Love Goes On And On” (3-8) and Ariana Grande’s “Bad Idea” (5-10) complete the Bubbling Under chart.

Six debuts and one re-entry made it to the Singles Top40 this week, with all but one of them making it to the upper half of the charts. New atop is one of the new entries: “So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth” by Grimes. Ever since her first chart entry with “Flesh Without Blood” nearly four years ago, the Canadian singer has become a reliable hit maker and she’s got to a place where her new singles are always in for a battle about the crown from the get-go. “So Heavy” serves as the second single of her upcoming new studio album “Miss Anthropocene”, which is expected to be released on the 21st February 2020. The previous single “Violence” served as the lead single and became her very first top hit just a few weeks ago, with “So Heavy” being her second consecutive number one single now. Overall, it’s her eighth chart entry in total and sixth Top2 hit, with five of her eight chart entries being certified with either Gold or Platinum.

The Dark Element still go strong in the second week following their album release, with “Songs The Night Sings” (1-2) and “Not Your Monster” (2-3) both just slipping one spot while “The Pallbearer Walks Alone” gets another week in the Top10 as well (5-8). “Songs The Night Sings” gets certified with Gold this week.

Other new and re-entries this week: Billie Eilish is back! Her debut album “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” has dropped at the beginning of the year and clearly made a big mark on the international charts. “Bad Guy” became a huge worldwide hit, but its follow-up “All The Good Girls Go To Hell” barely made an impact most likely because people already streamed the song through the album. So it’s less surprising to see the big newcomer already moving on with a completely new single called “Everything I Wanted”. It’s currently unknown if it’s just a stand alone track, a song for a possible re-release of her debut album or already the start of a new era, but the track becomes Billie’s eighth chart entry by debuting at #10. Country trio Lady Antebellumg just dropped their new album “Ocean”, their first release under a new label. While the lead single failed to make a further impact on My Charts, the second single and title track debuts at #12 this week as only the third chart entry ever for the trio, following “Need You Now” (#3 in 2010, Gold) and “You Look Good” (#17 in 2017). Fellow Country singer Carrie Underwood debuts just a spot below the trio with her new single “Drinking Alone” (#13). It serves as the fourth single of last years “Cry Pretty” album. The Country superstar has collected eighth consecutive Top5 hits between 2015 – 2018, but failed to continue that streak ever since with previous single “Southbound” missing out a chart entry completely. With that said, “Drinking Alone” is not her lowest peaking chart entry to date and keeps her Top20 streak as her 14th entry in total.

As expected, Indila benefits from a huge and nowadays rare video release effect, as her single “Parle à ta tête” re-enters the charts at #17 following the release of its visuals earlier this week. K-Pop girlgroup Mamamoo get their first chart notation with their single “Hip” from their newly released album “Reality In Black” (#18). They prove that K-Pop is slowly becoming a common genre on My Charts, though a really big hit for that genre is still missing right now. Last but not least, Finnish songstress Saara Aalto owns the final arrival of the week with “Tähdet, taivas ja sä / Koska et oo täällä enää” at #32. This is a tricky release, as the singer put them out as a double single release and therefor I also decided to let them onto the charts as one entry. The songs are from her Christmas album “Fairytale: Joulun taikaa” that makes its debut on the Album Top20 this week as well.

Other talking points this week: German Pagan-Folk band Faun released their new album “Märchen & Mythen” (Fairytales & Myths) on Friday which boosts their single “Sieben Raben” back up the charts (10-4). Meghan Trainor & Mike Sabath’s “Wave” gets another week in the Top10 and even climbs a little bit (8-7), with the song also getting certified with Gold this week as Meghan’s third song doing so. Speaking of Gold certifications, Lena & Nico Santos’ “Better” also gets certified with Gold this week (31-36).

Faun’s “Sieben Raben” is the biggest climber while Stereoact & Vanessa Mai’s “Ja nein vielleicht” drops 18-39 as the biggest loser this week.
