    15. Sam Smith – Diamonds
    333 points

    Chartrun: 9-9-16-19-25-30-13-*5*-6-8-11-19-32-39-SC / 14w
    Certification: GOLD

This is one that I didn’t see coming, because I thought Sam couldn’t top the #20 spot for How Do You Sleep? on the Year-End Charts 2019, but they did! Diamonds is the latest single of Sam’s third album Love Goes and similar to How Do You Sleep? or Dancing With A Stranger, Diamonds is also a strong Pop tune and way too underrated on the official charts out there. This and their latest album were also the reasons why I finally connected with Sam again, and it’s a joy to see them feeling themselves as never before.

    14. Doja Cat – Say So
    345 points

    Chartrun: 13-18-12-9-6-7-*4*-5-12-15-22-28-37-Out / 13w
    Certification: GOLD

Doja Cat is without a doubt one of the biggest newcomers of 2020 and Say So is one of the main reasons. This still is her biggest hit to date on the charts out there and that’s well deserved, because it’s a fantastic combination of Pop, R&B, Disco and Rap, also covering several singing styles by Doja herself. But she had one song that clicked with me even more in 2020…

    13. Halsey – You Should Be Sad
    345 points

    Chartrun: 9-2-*1*-3-6-7-9-11-16-23-30-38-35-39-Out / 14w
    Certification: GOLD

The first two months of 2020 actually already had several huge highlights, that also remained highlights until the end. Following The Pussycat Dolls and Doja Cat, Halsey’s You Should Be Sad is another song that was already released early in the year and kept its fabulousness through the whole year. I really liked that the singer was going for a slightly different route on this one, as it’s very Country-Pop. Surely a big milestone in her discography so far.

    12. Doja Cat – Boss Bitch
    365 points

    Chartrun: *1*-3-6-8-8-11-18-23-25-21-22-22-24-26-32-Out / 15w
    Certification: GOLD

…and here’s Doja Cat’s biggest hit for 2020: The Birds Of Prey soundtrack tune Boss Bitch. I’ve read about the singer already back in 2019, but somehow failed to check something out until I randomly checked Boss Bitch out as the first song that I’ve ever heard by her, and oh my goodness, what a banger! This hits so hard, her rap is immense and I love how catchy it is.

    11. Clean Bandit & Mabel feat. 24kGoldn – Tick Tock
    369 points

    Chartrun: 6-*1*-2-3-6-6-9-11-14-21-30-35-37-35-32-39-Out / 16w
    Certification: GOLD

Just missing out on the Top10 is Tick Tock by Clean Bandit, Mabel and 24KGoldn. Clean Bandit are obviously no strangers to my charts, 24kGoldn is a newcomer who has never made an entry besides Tick Tock, while I completely slept on Mabel so far, so when this song was announced, I had no idea what to expect. Thankfully, Clean Bandit didn’t disappoint, and Tick Tock proved to be a clear highlight of the year for me. They will probably never top Symphony for me personally, but this is yet another stellar moment in their strong discography.

      • Both songs by Amaranthe are solid, maybe I should have put Amaranthe higher in my chart, 2020 was a messy year.

        111. Rina Sawayama – Lucid - almost made the top 100, it was released too late in the year, I suppose

        • Already said my thing about Broken Glass in someone else's thread. Video has great view count but he did insist on foisting those lazy remixes on us instead. Even one of the other originals was promoted on US TV instead of BG. (the OneRepublic one?)

            • Nice to see "Tick Tock", "You Should Be Sad", "Say So" (The original "Say So") and "Diamonds on here!
From your bubbling under, there are a lot of great songs!
Very happy to see "LUCID", I'm so happy to find this song thanks to a friend of mine, it could make my Year-end list next year!
Can't wait to see the top 10 of yours!
Would love to know what you think about my chart and my Year-end list, if you have the time.

2020 + mess are like the same word, aren't they? Glad you enjoy them, they still have one more to come on my countdown.

Yes, "Lucid" just missed out due to its late debut. But I'm pretty sure that it's going to be featured on my YEC 2021, it's still doing amazing on my weekly chart.

Yeah, I think it was in Carbon's YEC, as he charted "Broken Glass" as well. That really was annoying, and yes, they promoted the (rather boring) OneRepublic song instead Sometimes I don't get the choices of some artists...

Glad to see someone also enjoys (and knowns) "Lemons"

                    Some great Pop highlights there...

Ha, funny that you mention the "original Say So", because I wasn't feeling the remix that much
Very glad there are several songs in the Top20 that you enjoy as well!

Same for me when it comes to "Lucid", its late release is the reason why it's not featured on my main countdown, but it's very likely going to be featured on the 2021 countdown in a year

                      • "Physical" is brilliant. Would've liked to have seen it higher, but pleased that it's Dua's top song here, deservedly. "U Wear It Well" is good. It was in my bubbling under list. "Joan of Arc on the Dancefloor" is solid.

"Positions" is cute, but extremely sub-par for Ari. "Who's Laughing Now" is so infectious and it's weird because, like you mentioned, it is rather basic, but that didn't make it any less catchy or irresistible for me; it was actually one of her biggest growers. "911" definitely deserved way more love from the GP!

"React" is cool. "Diamonds" is a bop. "Say So" is low-key brilliance; I love how understated it is. "Boss Bitch" is great. That lyric - I chew, chew, chew 'cause they hope I choke - is actually one of my favourite lines in hip/hop from 2020.

I like these from the bubbling under sets:

                        • No Judgement, Flux, Holiday and Wave from the bubbling under are great! But I'll try and find more from the actual chart section this time!!

Tick Tock I really enjoy, it just missed my 100 rather than my 10 but I bop to it, same as both Doja tracks which are undeniably impressive.
PCD is pretty great but Diamonds is the one I love most, and I completely agree with your write up about them feeling themselves, we charted it similarly!

Glad there are a few songs on the main countdown that you really enjoy as well! Even though the year-end spot for "Physical" seems low, it's still her third most successful chart entry on my charts (only behind "New Rules" and "Prisoner"). "U Wear It Well" is awesome, those musical numbers are actually often quite an event for me, already spinning "Condragulations" from S13 a lot at the moment <3 Glad you also enjoy the underrated "Joan Of Arc On The Dancefloor"!

"Positions" had a moderate first impression on me, but it grew on me quickly. Still not among her best ones, of course. Glad we agree on "Who's Laughing Now", it probably also helps that those 'basic' Pop hits were rather rare in the last few years so it's nice to have an artist releasing those again. Yes to "911"...

"Say So" really is understated, which makes it even better. Really excited to find out what she will bring for her new album this year.
Fun fact about "Boss Bitch" (since you're also a RPDR stan), I actually imagined myself doing a performance to the song on an All Stars variety show Because it's fierce, you can dance along to, but also serve a great lipsync

Tons of songs you like from the bubbling under set, that's amazing!

Great picks from the bubbling under set. "Flux" and "Wave" were very high on my year-end countdown 2019 ("Flux" at #14, "Wave" even at #6). Definitely highlights on both artists discographies.

"Tick Tock" was such a bop for me, glad you also enjoy it. And yes to the Doja Cat / PCD appreciation <3
I knew from your countdown that you'd be very happy about the spot for "Diamonds" here. A shame Sam is so underrated on the official charts these days...

German Pop goddess Kim Petras opens the Top10 of my Year-End Charts 2020 with Icy, what can be seen as the main single to her full-length debut album Clarity. The song and the album were originally released in late June 2019, and even though I knew about this release already back then, it took me another six months until I finally checked Kim out in the final week of 2019 - and up to today, none of my other new discoveries got the same enthusiasm from me like she got. She just seems to know how Pop works nowadays and Icy is a perfect example for that. It’s beyond me how she hasn’t (way) more mainstream success, because Kim deserves to be big and Icy deserved to be a worldwide success, too.

Following Do Me at #52 and Broken Glass alongside Kygo at #19, Icy is Kim’s third and final entry on my countdown. She was also bubbling under with Reminds Me (#172) and Malibu (#104).

2020 was a fantastic year for Pop music, as it was proven by lots of entries on my countdown, the just revealed Icy by Kim Petras, and now also by Lady Gaga’s Stupid Love. The songstress finally returned to her roots with her long awaited sixth studio album Chromatica, and its lead single Stupid Love was the pure Pop hit many fans - including me - were hoping for. It’s this carefree, danceable Pop music that made me fall in love with Gaga back in 2008, and exactly the kind of music we needed from her during the crazy, rather depressing year that was 2020. And I also really loved the video for this, especially after several letdowns previously.

Among all artists in the Top10 of my Year-End Charts 2020, Gjon’s Tears is probably by far not only the least popular, but Répondez-moi is even his only official single to date! A huge, but very deserved achievement. Gjon’s Tears would have been the Swiss entry at the cancelled Eurovision Song Contest 2020, an event that usually has a huge impact on my weekly chart and even though the contest was cancelled last year, it still made a splash. Following Victoria’s Tears Getting Sober (#99), The Roop’s On Fire (#98), Efendi’s Cleopatra (#82), Go_A’s Solovey (#68) and Ulrikke’s Attention (#38), Répondez-moi is the sixth and final song from the contest to make my countdown.

I have to admit I don’t know a lot about Gjon’s Tears, but the song itself just spoke to me and reached my heart. His voice is incredible on this, and even though French is far from being my favorite language (and there aren’t many big songs on my charts in that language), the song still has something that gets me every time I listen to it. It’s by far the most successful Swiss Eurovision entry ever on my weekly charts and I have to correct myself on what I wrote on Loredana & Delara’s Checka at #17; this here is by far the highest placed Swiss artist on one of my year-end countdowns.

Ever since her debut in 2008, Miley Cyrus’ music was always a hit for me and so I was very excited when she announced her new album Plastic Hearts in 2020, with Midnight Sky having been its lead single. This goes a similar direction like many other Pop hits from last year, such as The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights, or the stuff by Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga, so it also was less surprising to see this being a hit for her from the get go. While the song proved to be a hit as a solo track at first, it was the Edge Of Midnight remix with Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks that got nearly all of my attention once the album got released, so both are credited on this.

This makes 2020 already the sixth year where Miley reaches the Top10 of my Year-End Charts, following 2009 (with The Climb at #1, See You Again at #2, Fly On The Wall at #6 and Party In The U.S.A. at #9), 2010 (with Can’t Be Tamed at #1, When I Look At You at #7 and Who Owns My Heart at #10), 2013 (with Wrecking Ball at #6), 2014 (with Wrecking Ball at #5), and 2019 (with Nothing Breaks Like A Heart at #10), making Miley one of the most successful singles artists ever on my charts.

Swedish Heavy Metal band Amaranthe closes this group with Viral, their fourth entry on my countdown following Fearless at #74, Archangel at #20 and Strong feat. Noora Louhimo at #18. As the title of the song suggests, the song is a great soundtrack to what was going on in 2020, and its video fits perfectly as well.

As many may known, female fronted Metal music has always been very successful for me, mainly by bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation, and when I finally checked Amaranthe out back in 2016, they slowly also started to become a big hit maker on my weekly charts. And even though Amaranthe already scored six Top10 hits on my weekly charts prior Viral, this was their first song to score a certification, ended up as their biggest hit by far and 2020 was overall their strongest year ever for me.

                                      • Icy is alright, probably should have been Kim's big break.
"Répondez-moi" has all of the elements of a song I should like (beautiful voice, slow tempo, thoughtful lyrics), somehow I was not completely sold. It might just be the wrong timing (depressing year, we need something tto cheer us up; or maybe too soon after the success of "Arcade"), I also had some issues with the production.

I think it was overshadowed by Say So (which I prefer). And also really pleased to see Stupid Love in your top 10- it was my best performing Gaga song!

I do know the Gjon's tears song from Eurovision because Mainshow had all the songs that were supposed to compete listed. And that was one of the ones I enjoyed.

Below your top 20, I'm happy to see Ari, Ava, and Lindsey.
