In this thread I'm going to do a countdown of my top 200 songs (singles, album tracks, EP tracks etc.) released* in 2016. As always my Year End Chart is based on plays from 1st January until 31st December so I need the year to have ended before I can start this.

170 covers for 296 of the 300 estimated songs (as of 20th December) with the highest chance to end up in my top 200. (Last year's version of this image sucked but this one is awesome!)

The poll contains eight of my biggest favourite songs this year (as of 20th December) plus a trap song that I don't like much and won't appear on the chart at all.

*) In most cases, the meaning of this is obvious but there are a couple of special cases: 1) If a song was released as a single in 2015 (or possibly earlier) but is also included on an album or EP that was released in 2016 then I will treat it as a 2016 song if I didn't discover it until this year. Similarly, if a song was included on an album released in 2015 (or possibly earlier) but was also released as a single in 2016 then I will treat it as a 2016 song if I didn't discover it until this year. There will be a separate chart (possibly top 50) of my most played older songs during the year.

2006 Top 15

Because I've been making year end charts since 2000 but only started posting them here last year I thought I would post a "retro" chart and I chose to go back in time exactly one decade (can't believe it's really been a decade already!). There were 200 positions in that chart just like all years but I'll settle for just the top 15 here. Most of these songs are still amazing.

Sara Paxton (the mermaid) is better known as an actress but she recorded some songs in 2005-2006. This is not as good as "Here We Go Again" from the year before.

Unfortunately this song doesn't seem to be available anywhere these days so I can't post any links. Some of you may know the singer from the Danish ESC entry this year (i.e. 2006) and that song ("Twist of Love") is also on the album. "Son of Semmane" (a ballad that sounds nothing like the messy ESC entry) is the only song I really like on it though. The title seems weird but from the lyrics it seems she's singing about how her grandparents met ("This is the story my mother told me about her mom and dad").

By far my favourite song with the title "Wide Awake". Apparently she's from Iceland but was living in Luxembourg at the time; that's one of the coolest country combinations I've come upon .

I'm glad you like some of the songs from my 2006 top 15! "First Day of My Life" seems to be the most popular song... I actually chose to list 15 positions (rather than 10) specifically so that would get included. I agree it's amazing that it's already a decade old, and it's actually 11 years old as it was released in the UK in 2005 (but in Sweden it wasn't released until 2006 and I didn't discover it until that year).

Foxes - Cruel is brilliant but i prefer Wicked Love. Hoping to see it higher in your chart. It was my no.2

Carly Rae is too low! Nice for Zella Day making an appearance. The Colbie Goldmine song is nice.

Yeah, I LOLed a lot when I saw how people voted in the poll but maybe it was evil to add such a well known and popular song (despite the warning that one of the songs was a "trap"), and by coincidence it ended up on top due to the alphabetical ordering. I'm glad you voted for "Nirvana" though!

"Alone" got its first play on 7th December so it didn't have that little time, and I actually doubt it would have been much higher if it had been released a month earlier (i.e. I'm mostly over it already). There are newer songs in the top 200.

Also a bit surprised to see 'just' 18 songs being in german, as it felt like there would be a lot more...

That's more (I think) than all of the previous years (2000-2015) together and still people ask for more . Seriously though, I understand what you mean and the main reason is that Wolkenfrei who had huge success on my weekly chart don't have any songs from 2016. If songs from 2014 and 2015 had been included here the number would easily have been doubled. Also, Anni Perka got a bit unlucky with a lot of songs just below #200.

It took 49 plays to reach the top 200 this year, compared to 59 last year (but 49 is still the second highest so far).

The time isn't why i'm surprised, it's more than it didn't do that well on your personal charts so i thought it would be lower / not that high. But i guess i underestimated its chartrun...
