    Ridiculous.

Belgium will be not reaching the final 100% - seriously, all delegation will be hoping to end up with Belgium in the semi final when the semi allocation draw is about to take place.

This is "United Kingdom at Eurovision in the last 00īs" kind of bad.

I lowkey liked his performance, though, but damn... that song is so freaking dated and simply not competitive at all.

I canīt believe he smashed the televoting like that Oo

      • I can't stop laughing, sorry Belgians but this is hilarious. This is something that even the UK in their darkest days wouldn't send. It reminds me soo much of various 00s Eurovision entries.

          • What can I say. I guess those Flemish nationalists didn’t want to send a French song :’)! I have no idea, I am shocked. Even that rollercoaster song was better than this mess. Yes, he did well on stage but this song has zero potential. Like less than zero.

it was jury/public 50/50. He was third in juries and second in public vote. Cherine second in jury, and gala or what is her name 1st. Public first place was for the duo, cause they are are popular among the public. Whoever installed this format must be shaking his/her head. Next.

                • ngl the studio version is an ok harmless throwback tune, but the live version makes it very "Il pleut de l'or" (Switzerland 2009)

                  • whoever was responsible for Cherine staging, some choices were made...I think that ridiculous staging is what ultimately made the whole thing look like a joke entry.

                    • As I said earlier, it was a weak bunch of songs to begin with. At this point I’d rather Wallonia were to pick our entry every year.

I agree. I don’t necessarily mind the song itself, but he just looks ridiculous performing it.

I actually think this is even worse. But it's close.

True, the staging was horrid. But in my mind I’m like that you can change, the song you can’t.

The Starlings had an Ed Sheeran rip-off on their hands, Gala Dragot would have been an ok choice actually, I thought jury would give her a bigger advantage but anyway

                              • However dated this Gustaph song is, give it to Sam Smith and we have a chart hit (that's how basic Sam's music is now tbh).

Do only half of Belgium vote every year then or how does it work?

                                  • Belgium - oh dear, it’s bad. I could see the studio version being ok but it’s just so flat live. I liked the staging. It needs a major revamp to qualify

                                    • Israel 2022 was actually a contemporary pop song (with some draq queen vibes; musically) - Belgium 2023, however, sounds like a dated boyband song from the mid 90īs which would have been frequently played in a gay bar (also in the 90īs).

Itīs catchy (and not necessarily bad) but I have to laugh at fans saying that itīs got a 50% chance of qualifying and that it could sneak into Liverpoolīs Top 10 because "heīs such a great performer" (I have even read a few comments that Gustaph will be creating a Laura Tesoro moment).

Since our country is divided into two principal linguistic regions (Dutch-speaking Flanders and French-speaking Walllonia), they made the decision to take turns every year.

As far as voting is concerned, someone from Wallonia could easily cast a vote during the national final when broadcasted by the Flemish broadcaster (and the other way round).

                                        • Actually, Belgium is divided into three linguistic regions - Itīs a tiny minority but the most Eastern part speaks German and German is an ofifcial language in Belgium as well (even though only 1% speaks German as their mother tongue - but itīs the most dominating language in that part).

Just be lucky that itīs not bigger - otherwise, we would be seeing 3 different broadcasters meddling with Eurovision in Belgium and we all know how "successful" German-speaking broadcasters are at Eurovision

Actually, Iīm already quite afraid of our national final (and how our televoters will be voting).. I mean.. Gustaph ended up #2 last night! (I still canīt believe it!)

Everyone's doing the early 90s house sound these days, so I can't fault Gustaph, once again, it's basically Sam Smith's whacky uptempo cover of "I Feel Love"

lmao this, it sounds like a song that would win the UK national final

I understand now why belgium has been doing internal selections for years, you can't really trust the public. The last time they did a national final was in 2014 when a song called Mother won and obviously Belgium failed to qualify.

The artist is not well-known so I don't get how his song did so well in televoting.

Even though the Belgian national final was weak, Charine was clearly the better choice; a young and fresh artist with a catchy song in French.

Did the FR-BE broadcaster show the national final?

They don’t but they receive VRT so our Walloon friends are able to watch as well as vote.
