Disappointing. This is not the bop I was waiting for lol.

Happy to hear some lines in Armenian but the song goes nowhere. I can't remember the chorus and until around 1:30 it was flat.

Armenia usually gives us good performances so I hope this will look good on stage.

Her team will spend around 900k euros (?) for the entry and I bet the staging will be expensive and elevate the (mediocre) song.
it's got in their youtube trends at #4 or something hence the accusations

        Apparently, it's not trending anymore?

So bizarre that it's trending in Georgia, Malta and even n1 in Ukraine?

Anyway this is pure quality from Georgia, the hype was worthy of this.

                • Georgia is indecipherable w/o the subtitles. A whole lot of production, I liked their 2022 JESC more (same songwriting team)

                  • Georgia's song is great! Strong staging potential with that one I feel.

Happy we have all 37 entries now. Any new versions we're still waiting on or have all the revamps and whatnot been released already?

Still not sure about San Marino as the song is the only one (other than those released in last two days) that isn’t on streaming yet.

                      • Exclusive digital cover - Mae Muller takes on Eurovision 2023

Interesting piece about Mae's selection with interviews from Tap music bosses (Ed Millet, Ben Mawson), Modest! Management (Mae's management), EMI co-president (Mae's label) and of course Mae herself!

                        https://www.musicweek.com/interviews...on-2023/087587

I was mostly interested to read about the selection process this year and I'm adding here the Q&A with Ben and Ed talking about the 2023 selection process for the UK entry:

We went from not having a person to suddenly being all sold on her and the song. Part of the whole process this time around was wanting to have something that had tempo and lent itself to a performance with a dance routine, etc. But you can't be hellbent on that, because when you look back at Eurovision history as a guide, there are so many types of artists and performances that have won, so you can't let that totally dictate what you do. But there was a conscious effort to find something more uptempo.

Last year, Sam Ryder told MW that artists would soon be beating down the door to be Eurovision contestant. Has that been the case?

EM: “It still wasn't easy, but it felt like there were more people open to it.”

BM: “The process is still very hard, because some artists only want to write their own songs. They may be good songs, but they’re not right for Eurovision. You can't just have a good song and not be the right personality. It’s a bit of a jigsaw really and every year, you've got to get that formula right. But it was definitely easier this year in terms of reception. People didn't shut the door straight away, which happened the first time around.”
How did the selection process work this time?

BM: “We were very clear that you need, number one, a very good song. Two, an artist who can perform live. And three, the right personality to embrace the opportunity. We wanted to tick all those boxes and it's very hard to get all of them, so you end up having quite a small pool to choose from. That's not a negative; it automatically focuses you on the right kind of people. Ideally, we didn't want to have a male – that was important to us this year – then it's, ‘Do they have the song?’ Mae was on our shortlist of the top four or five people. And when [I Wrote A Song] came in, it felt like it was a really good option.”

I wish they could reveal the artists that were in discussions with them about ESC. I'm curious about Rina.... She had the bops and she could dance. Plus, she doesn't have mainstream success so I don't think there was a big risk for her career.

                        • Georgia is fantastic!

Ever since Artsvik's Fly With Me from 2017 (omg already six years) I've been craving another modern Pop / Ethno-Pop hymn and Echo is that!

Exactly that. It’s the music genre that I want the most from Eurovision ever since Sertab and Ruslana switched up what we knew from ESC

They should do it if Mae does well this year - but even this year they struggled to find 4-5 strong songs...

                                    • I think if the UK wants artists like Sam, Mae etc then a National Final wouldn’t work as I can’t see some of these being willing to compete/lose - possibly seen as damaging to their careers

I listened to some of the favourites - Norway is great, fun with a great voice; Israel was extremely generic and forgettable- I think a surprise NQ unless the performance is good

                                      • Israel is sure qualifier, they will have killer performance. The song makes no sense but they will have great performance and I expect great dance break routine.

Top 10 in final for sure.

I’m so excited, in less than 2 months we will
know the winner. My odd is on Sweden, Finland and maybe Norway. I expect them all to do very well.

Sweden might end up 1st w jury, while I can’t see Finland getting many votes by jury, but it will win the televote.

Others that might come close to top 3 are Israel, Austria, Ukraine, Czech Rep, Italy and Spain.

I think both Spain and Italy will end up in top 10 cuz they will stand out for sure. I wonder how Austria will look like in live, cuz the song is super fun and super catchy, I wonder for Czech and Israel.

I’m worring for Greece, Cyprus, Switzerland, The Netherlands cuz they all have the same Sherran vibe.

Georgia and Armenia are pretty good but will they stand out?

Croatia and Moldova might suprise us in televote.

It will all end up based on performance and the energy and the running order.

                                        My current prediction:
                                        1. Sweden
                                        2. Finland
                                        3. Norway
                                        4. Israel
                                        5. Ukraine
                                        6. Spain
                                        7. Austria
                                        8. Italy
                                        9. Croatia
                                        10. Czech/Moldova

                                        • Israel's entry makes more sense as a piece concocted in a lab specifically for Eurovision - here you have a start that immediately grabs attention, then a slower build-up with claps, then a chorus that allows Noa to showcase her vocals (for the juries in the final), then a progression to the second verse with slightly more beat, a "feminine-phenomenal" part to convey some sort of a message and at the end a Fuego-ish dance-break climax

Actually, the dance-break is giving Chanel vibes, not Fuego.

And yes, I agree with you, the song was written specifically for Eurovision and I bet they were making plans on the staging while they were finalising the song.

Why? Both Mae and Sam were not known to the general public before they were announced as UK entries. Sam released his debut album months after ESC and Mae hasn't released one yet (her UK entry is her first charting solo single). Why would taking part in a national final be a risk to their careers (since they didn't have a proper career break).

Just to clarify, I don't mean a national final in the form of 'Eurovision: You Decide'.... but something professional and big like the Nordic national finals. It would be a platform for new artists to perform in front of a big audience and millions of viewers.
