  • Dynasty [2017 reboot]

2017 reboot of the iconic 1981 series with Joan Collins.

This premiered a couple of weeks ago and I watched the first three episodes last night. They're actually really good.

Has anyone else watched this yet?
    ? Girls' Generation ?
    ? HyoYeon ? Britney Spears ?

Girls' Generation is the best-selling girl group of all time.

I started watching this today. So far I've only watched the first two episodes though, but it seems interesting and I'll continue watching it.

Love this series! I was initially annoyed by the portrayal of Crystle, reimagined as a Hispanic!? I mean, how cliché! I predicted how the plot of the first few episodes revolved around her identity and all, it was so unoriginal and uninspired!

I cannot wait for Nicole Sheridan to appear. As for Robert Riley as the chauffeur, it was not convincing. They could have hired a more attractive and clean-cut jock kind of guy, sorry I don't want to be offensive, but he looked sleazy from the first second of his appearance. :-? :-? :-? It's also impossible that Blake would be immediately accepting of him for his daughter as portrayed in the remake.

I am enjoying Elizabeth Gillies as Fallon. She is such a Lindsay Lohan deadringer! It makes me miss Lindsay, she would have been perfectly fierce and even better for this role had she still maintained her youthful look.

I was disappointed by the pilot, but I'm gonna give the show a second chance now that Nicolette Sheridan is in it.

I don't understand with all the revivals of 80s and 90s slhows that they couldn't just continue Dynasty with one of the Carrington kids in charge now that John Forsythe has passed away, much like what they did with Dallas a few years back. We've seen there's a Nostalgia for bringing back shows from the past but people will always prefer those old actors in those old roles versus then starting over from scratch and rebooting the thing.

I‘m not allowed to share streaming links, but you can find the original series online very easily.

[spoiler:3qgm48ks]‘Dynasty’ Surprise: Ana Brenda Contreras Joins the CW Series As “Real Cristal”

Dynasty fans were shocked when earlier this summer one of the stars of the reboot, Nathalie Kelley, who plays Cristal, announced that she will not be returning for Season 2.

It turns out that he exit was part of a soapy plot twist. At the CW executive session, it was announced that telenovela Ana Brenda Contreras is joining the show in Season 2 as a new character, revealed to be the real Cristal Flores.

Cristal, Alexis or Michael’s fates were left up in the air in the Season 1 finale cliffhanger, which ended with the three still trapped in a fire after Cristal also had been shot.

“We were a little surprised she spoiled the surprise,” the CW president Mark Pedowitz said of Kelley’s comments, noting that “we have plans for other characters too. (Showrunner) Sallie (Patrick) has fun twist and turns in store.”

Asked for the reason for the switch Pedowitz said, “it’s a wild soap, these are things you do on a soap.” He said the the plan to go into that direction with the character started in midseason.

I hear the decision started as a recasting, with the producers using the soap form as a creative way to do it.

Contreras’ casting restores the original setup of the reboot, in which the story of the feud between the Carringtons and the Colbys was to be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington (Elizabeth Gillies), daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington (Grant Show), and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal (Kelley), a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.

Cristal was a version of the Krystle Jennings character in the original series, played by Linda Evans, which was considered a female lead. It also was the case on the CW’s Dynasty, whose Season 1 key art featured Gillies, Kelley and Show.

The dynamic on the show changed in the second half of Season 1 with the introduction of Nicollette Sheridan as Alexis Carrington late in Season 1.

“Nicollette has been a great addition,” Pedowitz said. “She is a disrupting force, she is that diva.”

The decision to make the stepmom Hispanic was an effort to bring the 1980s soap to the 21st century and better reflect the diversity of America today as well as add a race/class dimension to the family conflicts, though fan reaction to the character has been somewhat mixed.

Asked about Cristal fate, Kelley, a Peruvian-born Australian actress, said, “Is it a coma? Is it death? … I actually don’t know. But I know that I’m not going to Atlanta in July, that I’m staying [in LA]…. I’ve got my life back.”

Nicollette Sheridan, the main reason why I watch this show, will leave it!

                                Nicollette Sheridan is leaving Dynasty

Nicollette Sheridan is ending her run on Dynasty.

The CW confirmed the news of her exit Monday. Sheridan had been with the show as the scheming diva Alexis Carrington since midway through the first season.

“Nicollette Sheridan will be leaving Dynasty in order to focus on some personal family responsibilities,” the network said in a statement. “She was a valuable asset to the show and we wish her continued success in the future.”

This marks the third buzzy departure from the CW series, following James Mackay and Nathalie Kelley’s exits last year. Kelley originally portrayed Cristal but was replaced in the second season by Ana Brenda Contreras, after telling fans she would not return for a second season and her character’s fate being left in limbo in the season 1 finale.

Sheridan was promoted to a series regular for the second season, bringing her catty matriarch (portrayed by icon Joan Collins in the original series) to the show on a more frequent basis. This marked her first major TV role since Desperate Housewives and her messy 2009 exit there, which involved a much publicized lawsuit.

According to TVLine, which broke the news, Sheridan’s final Dynasty episode will air sometime in March. Dynasty has already been renewed for a third season, but it remains to be seen if Sheridan’s role will be recast.

                                  Devastating news.

She is going to spend time with her terminally ill mother and says on her Instagram the role will be recast. I imagine they have already planned out the character's storylines for the rest of the season, especially if e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y they are bringing in the much teased Dominique Deveraux.

I would prefer they write the character out and see if they can bring her back in Season 3 sometime.

If Dominique turns out to be Vanessa Williams this will be a huge missed opportunity...

I've been busy re-watching all the old episodes on DVD. I bought all nine series on DVD and I've only season nine to watch now. After this, I will watch the new series.

Although I think it's hard to play Alexis as brilliantly as Joan Collins. Or Sammy Jo as great as Heather Locklear.
