Pretty good ratings for Holby, otherwise naff all round - IAC below the 8m mark again, the news almost popping a rating bigger than any of the soaps.

Those 3 episodes were their big return to TV though, after it originally ended in 1996. The 3 episodes were recorded to all be shown in 2001 across 3 nights, but the BBC decided to split it across 3 years instead.

Looking at the list, it’s nice to see that the BBC know how to pull in the ratings at Christmas and it’s clear what works - family entertainment. The BBC is always seem to pull out the stops at Christmas.
I have a bad feeling about this.

          Re: UK TV Ratings Topic

I get that it was their "big return" to TV but it's still the biggest regularly occurring TV program (non-soap) in UK television history - and for me, this just confirmed that. The ratings did fail to live up to the 1996 peak which had over 24 million viewers.

You're definitely right about the BBC, the only time of the year they properly justify the license fee - ITV seem to give up every year these days.

9 years since anything has cracked that top 10... I do feel in recent years the Christmas Day schedules have been pretty terrible though. It's nothing near the event TV it used to provide.

I'm A Celeb figures seem a bit lower than usual? I'm sure it's usually grabbing 8-9m a night quite comfortably?

2013 & 2014 were mostly fantastic, mostly above 8m - 2015 is when it appeared to dip, probably as the format got a bit tired.

I support it whole heartedly. I don’t think the BBC are perfect in how they spend it (too many services) but I completely support an independent, impartial, commercial free platform whose content informs, educates and entertains.

Hell, 10 years ago I wanted to be Director General

Provisional listing for BBC Christmas Day

                      3.10pm Film : Cinderella (2015)

                      4.45pm The Highway Rat

                      5.15pm BBC News, Weather

5.30pm Doctor Who : Twice Upon a Time

6.30pm Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special

                      7.45pm Call the Midwife

                      9.00pm EastEnders

                      10.00pm Mrs Brown's Boys

10.35pm 300 Years of French and Saunders

Poor choice of daytime movie with Cinderella in my opinion. Other than that, it’s pretty much identical to every other year’s schedule.

I think they literally just swapped Call The Midwife and EastEnders around but that’s it. We should do a little ratings game when the schedules are out with our predictions.

I'm A Celebrity loses a million viewers again, compared to last year - worrying trend?

Good ratings for Apprentice, holding up well!

I don't understand how Corrie can lose almost a million viewers in half hour.

I think they literally just swapped Call The Midwife and EastEnders around but that’s it. We should do a little ratings game when the schedules are out with our predictions.

Ah but what a schedule! Most of this will clash with my soaps so thank god for iPads and iPlayer on Boxing Day
I have a bad feeling about this.

I can understand a few people forgetting it’s on twice on a Wednesday now, but 1 Million people can’t be forgetting

Unless the first episode was utter tripe, it does seem weird.

When the hell are the soaps gonna pick up?! Mind you, I think they get better figures January-March generally as people are too busy at this time.

I thought soaps would’ve picked up by now. They normally do from Halloween onwards after the summer slump.

Blimey, I'm A Celeb drops a huge amount of viewers - almost in the 6m range!

This double whack of Corrie also proves that there was more behind the drop on Monday - less than 0.25m people dropped between eps.

I doubt SLFN will be back, the interest has been pretty non-existent.

I'm A Celeb actually loses a million viewers, compared to same day last year (but don't think it's the same place in the show).

Coronation Street is remarkably strong, YOY.

Not surprised Eastenders had lower ratings this year, it had quite a poor lead in.
