  • UK TV Ratings Topic

Digital Spy have a really good ratings topic that I often read - thinking we could start something similar here, as we're all (mostly) nerdy folks interested in the numbers.

I’m a sucker for TV ratings. Though I do think it’s an archaic system, almost as much as the US one.

Yeah I'm not sure how accurate they are but it's all relative I guess. Surely by now they'd be able to fit TVs/boxes with devices that record what people are actually viewing, or is that too invasive?

Apprentice is doing pretty well considering its age although the competition isn't very remarkable and apparently it adds about 1m on catch-up etc.

Bit of a slump for the second Corrie!

The news ratings are pretty high. So the people are not following Morrissey's advice about not watching the news!

I think with the amount of people who have more than one TV the ratings probably don't take this into account.

What this thread should really concentrate on is probably the big series ratings, rather than the soaps and others. Series such as Strictly, X-Factor, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead and so on...

I hate how we work out viewership numbers here. You’d have thought they’d have figured out an accurate method by now.

Do these figures include catchup services? I’ve heard EE regularly gets a million viewers on it, which is pretty impressive (oh how I wish they’d release every episode on iPlayer…).

Corrie’s dip in rating I assume is because of CIN. I think it usually gets around the 7m mark?

I just feel like he has the same guests every season. He’s still the best talk show host though.

CIN figures have held quite steady over the years, considering the length of the show it's not bad. I guess it's still a big national event and working in schools I know how much they get behind it every year.

I still love it. It does well with the younger audience which is what itv want. With the consolidated figures it should end around 7 mil which is still respectable.

I think consumption for X Factor is different - I personally don't watch it anymore but when I did watch the auditions, I caught up on YouTube. And I imagine there's a high-ish catch up rating for Sunday's repeat (we'll find out tomorrow!).

People can make all the excuses they want but it's a simple as this: X Factor is nowhere near as good as it was, Strictly is equally as good and arguably keeps getting better.

I didn't realise ITV's morning figures were so poor! Has that historically been the case, that This Morning and Loose Women have quite low viewers? I know it's peak work time but there's surely enough people in the country not working to push those shows past a million!

Apart from X_Factor I rarely watch ITV1 . It has lost much of it's appeal over the years. They just fill the channel up with soaps. To try and take the viewers from Sky services. Not that matters to me cause I ain't got Sky!
I find that from about 6pm there is something to watch on the other freeview channels or a just watch a film I have got.
The daytime TV can be fragmented among the other channels. There are plenty of free drama on the channel called that name. Film Four kicks in later, but it is run by a bunch of cowboys, since there is always the same westerns on it.
Recently we have got into Talking Pictures TV (81), which at the moment normal Freeview people can't get unless they have an HD TV. Though on the 30 November it will be made available to all. It's full of old pictures which largely have not been aired much. But there is some good stuff mixed in with all sorts of weird promo films.
Education for anyone aged 12 to 16 has made a mess of the world!

Did it start at 8 the last few years? The later start might help it, no Blue Planet clash either. I'm gonna guess an average of 9m with a peak of 10.5m.
