What is Bodyguard and when will it air on BBC One?

The official start date for Bodyguard has not been announced but it will air on BBC One.

The political thriller will focus on a heroic war veteran (Richard Madden) assigned to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes).

Tension rises as the pair clash over politics and Julia's bodyguard could soon become her biggest threat.

The series will be available to watch via iPlayer shortly after broadcast.

Who is in the cast of Bodyguard?

TV veterans Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden lead an all-star cast that includes Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders), Gina McKee (Line of Duty), Rowena King (Trauma) and Vincent Franklin (Happy Valley).

Show creator Jed Mercurio said: "I'm hugely flattered by the superb cast who've joined Bodyguard, led by Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes, both of whom I'm delighted to be working with again."

I think this looks absolutely breathtaking - so pleased that the man behind Line of Duty is writing this, bound to be gripping TV.

Looking forward to this - The Mother thought they had turned the movie into a TV drama. I started explaining it wasnít the same, but then I thought it possibly will be at some point down the line

The first 20 mins was gripping TV!

The latter 40 mins was less suspenseful but I appreciate that we're getting to know the characters.

Overall, really brilliant TV - slick, realistic and so watchable. It's shot in a similar way to Spooks, which was also outstanding TV.

Majorly fancy Richard Madden as well - I had no idea it was the same guy that played Robb Stark in GOT.

Just watched the first episode and loved it. It sets the scene well and has enough twists in it to keep you guessing - even in episode one.

Love Richard Madden - saw him as Romeo (alongside Lily James as Juliet) - and he was amazeballs. Odd to hear him using his actual Scottish accent after seeing him lose it for other roles

... which makes it more difficult for me as a non-English native speaker to understand him! :(
For a second I wondered why he calls his female boss 'mum', until I realized it's 'ma'am'.
And what did he say in the very end of the first episode in the car? I rewatched it 3 times but didn't understand a word.

                                        I'm really enjoying this.

The only (minor) gripe for me is how quickly they personalised the relationship between the two main characters - it's really weakened Home Sec's character.

Finally got round to watching the first four episodes! Agree with this, they did fall into bed together very quickly but I guess they did that because they knew Julia was to die in the third episode.

That bomb scene was amazing, but on the subject of her death - Iím not convinced she is either. I donít think the bomb ever went off in the suitcase either!

The first part of the first episode was one of the most gripping introductions to any drama series Iíve seen. The sniper shooting at the car too was brilliant television.

I'm intrigued by that man who visited her in the hotel and I don't trust either the senior police woman or the head of the intelligence agency at all.

I jut caught up and love this. I donít think they slept together too quickly - it was fairly obvious they would end up together one way or another to get it over and done with quickly is a bold step to take.

I donít think sheís dead, but I hope she is - I know this is fiction and the rules are different, but the show has made a good effort of trying to keep the plot within the realms of reality that to fake her death is a step too far. We donít have the PM paying tribute to a dead politician when the politican isnít actually dead.

I do think his wifeís new fella is linked to this somehow, as is the girl who got fired - why was she collected by that jeep?

I disagree, you don't have a present and available Home Secretary (which let's be honest is the third most powerful role in the country, behind the Queen and the PM) when there's a serious threat to life, one which is considered to be internal.

Maybe the PM paying tribute was a tad OTT but I think it's totally plausible that they'd announce a fake death until they're able to catch the sod who's after her.

Because the threat would never develop into something that serious - our intelligence services and our police are too good.

However, should that situation arise, who knows what would happen? Let's not forget that the UK hasn't had a cabinet politician assassinated since 1812 (I don't think - a few MPs have been murdered but I don't believe any were cabinet ministers).
