  • Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 | Gliwice, Silesia, Poland

After Roksana W?giel won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk last month, it was finally announced that Poland will definitely be the host of the next edition a few minutes ago!

    [youtube:14pfa0kz]tXwxJiGJNfM[/youtube:14pfa0kz]

I'm so happy for Poland. Even though it's "just" the Junior Eurovision it will be a nice opportunity to get a sense of meeting EBU standards and the Polish broadcaster TVP can already practice when it comes to hosting the Eurovision Song Contest someday.
    + it's a nice thing for kids.

Re: Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 | Poland

I hope it will have at least the same 20 countries competing.
This year's edition seems to be a success, ever since jESC youtube channel has gone from 133k subscribers to 190k already (the biggest monthly increase ever).
Roksana's performance has a good number of views (getting closer to 7M views), which is significant.
I guess, jESC now needs at least one of the Western countries to come back (maybe Sweden?) to balance out a predominantly Eastern European contest.
And also some tweaks to the online voting system might help.

It really feels like the Junior Eurovision Song Contest gets a bit "more popular", like people getting to know that such a thing exists.
Anyway, Roksana is quite popular in Poland... I am pretty sure that did help this process (at least among Polish people).

I don't like this Western VS Eastern European countries thing.... I mean, most people still count countries such as Poland and Czech Republic to be part of the "Eastern block" even though they are unmistakably Central European.
+ "Eastern European" countries do outnumber "Western European" countries (number of states, territories) anyway.. that's why I do think that a "balance of such factor" is highly subjective and misleading... but of course, a "well-received long-time player" of the Eurovision Song Contest like Sweden, Austria, Germany wouldn't harm.

Also I remember Spain being so successful on jESC before quitting, at least some sort of a retreat for all of the Spanish eurofans.

they would rock Junior Eurovision.. I mean the latest entries of Spain would have been more suitable for JESC anyway

my "prediction" was right. Spain even might receive some form of a payback for their current Eurovision misfortunes.

The abscence of Azerbaijan and the return of Spain means it's gonna be a bit more balanced between Western Europe and former Soviet Union States

Starting to really dig this Ukrainian entry, it's quite experimental for the jESC, and sounds inspired by some of Jamala's songs.

now you can watch the recap of all the studio versions
my faves are France, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine, Poland is also alright, Albania's ballad is good. Australia & Netherlands are sending fairly well-produced sterile pop.

it seems to be a three-way race so far with Spain, France and Poland being ahead of the field.
Carla managed to become kinda TikTok viral in France and the music video is getting close to 1.5M views (which is a relatively nice number even for the ESC). Viki's MV has just conquered the 4M+ views mark.

Poland did win again and it was so well-deserved! Congrats! The song could have slayed in real Eurovision as well.

I'm surprised that Kazakhstan won the jury vote! Personally, I didn't like the song that much but the kid had a hell of a fantastic staging and his vocals were on point! I would have loved to see Kazakhstan win so that they EBU would have been "forced" to let Kazakhstan finally debut in Eurovision.

Portugal was part of my bottom 5 (Wales and Malta as well) and therefore, I can totally understand their placings. Of course, getting 0 pts from the juries is very harsh.

It seems that juries tend to kill off childish and playful entries like France whilst going for vocals (Kazakhstan, Australia, Spain). I guess, Poland scored #2 with the juries because it simply had mass appeal.
That's Eurovision. Neither the best compositions nor the best vocalists win. The entry with the best production/melody/mass appeal usually do and Poland had, once again, the best formula.

I hope that Poland will bring that energy to the real contest soon as well!

Oh and how amazing was the production/hosting of the contest? Apart from the cringe-worthy hosts, I think that TVP did a fantastic job! The stage was innovative, modern, interesting and I love it that it was the first JESC in 5 years without any "international help" in terms of organising the event. It shows that Poland is clearly ready to host the real event if they will be lucky to ever get the crown.

Kazakhstan didn't have the best song, it was so Disney, but they did make the most of what they had with a powerful performance.
Poland had a Dua Lipa-esque (circa 2016-2017) song, the live performance wasn't the best on the night, but definitely it had the mass appeal.
France lost the oomph of the studio version in the live performance (tha background instrumental even felt a bit flat).
If I had been a juror, I would have probably voted for Ireland, North Macedonia, Kazakhstan, Spain
