  • Parasite (2019)

Parasite (Korean: 기생충; Hanja: 寄生蟲; RR: Gisaengchung) is a 2019 South Korean dark comedy thriller film directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also wrote the film's story and co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won. The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam, and follows a young man from a poor household who begins to tutor a rich family's daughter, leading to his parents and sister also infiltrating the wealthy lives.

Parasite had its world premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2019, where it won the Palme d'Or, becoming the first Korean film to receive the award and the first film to do so with a unanimous vote since 2013's Blue Is the Warmest Colour. It was selected as the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

The film was released in South Korea by CJ Entertainment on 30 May 2019, and in the rest of the world by Neon in late-2019. It received widespread critical acclaim and earned $114 million worldwide, becoming Bong's highest-grossing release.
I've watched this last July and now that it's coming to the US, y'all should watch it as well.

Watched it two days ago. Amazing! I loved Gwoemul also, but this one improves on every aspect. Okja was good too. I'll definitely check out the rest of the director's filmography.

Yes, best movie of the year! Saw this back in August, the poster above is from the exact cinema where I watched it.

I expected it to be some sort of a viral infection movie but I was pleased how it turned out. The shift from dark comedy to thriller is pure genius.

I honestly came to the theater now knowing what to expect. I just decided to go cause my friends were all raving about it and I thought it was gonna be a horror movie, and booooy, I was wrong.

I'm not sure if it's really the best movie I've ever watched but it's definitely the one that left me the biggest impression. Such a roller coaster ride of different emotions.

Yup, it's a roller coaster ride of emotions.

I like that after all the things that happened in the house party, there is an epilogue. Like you think it's over huh, here's a little something that will mess you up more.

                      SO GOOD!!

It's like a Tarentino movie. Lots of dialogue, lots of suspense and then an explosion of violence!

Saw it last week. Felt like they pushed it a little too far towards the end, but overall a very deserving 'Best Picture' winner.

If you have to see only one film from 2019, then you should only watch Parasite (2019).

Parasite is social commentary at its best. Joker (2019) tried to do it, Us (2019) tried to it, but Parasite does it. Here is a film that switched between social classes with such ease. It shows us how the rich sees the poor as parasites, how the poor see the rich as parasites, and also how the poor see eachother as parasites. Bong Joon-Ho’s story brings nuance to the subject which remained missing is both Joker and Us.

Parasite is funny, mysterious, thrilling, and tragic, all at the same time. Please do watch it and not just once. Every viewing is rewarding. Very deserving of all of its praise tbh, it is a movie that stays in the minds of its viewers long after they watch it.

Nice movie but a little over-rated!
