I've been to Egypt in 2014 (Cairo, Luxor, Marsa Alam), in 2015 (Marsa Alam) and in 2016 (Marsa Alam).

At the resort(s) at Marsa Alam they must have known me and my husband are gay. But everybody's very nice and friendly. The underwater world is amazing (swam with wild dolphins, a huge sea cow and turtles).

First time we also went to Cairo to see the pyramids and Luxor to visit the King's graves. Egypt is beyond amazing.

That the whole country is still In some emergency state for some more days (will be interesting whether or not it will be extended)
And overall strict laws

I won't get PyramidPeen since the penalty for homosexual acts in Egypt is life in prison ... 250km to the east (Saudi Arabia) it even is death
So yeah... trying to behave for once

All the negativity aside... I ******* love it so far. Didn't see anything of the beach yet since I just arrived today and my walk to the beach wasn't that successful because it was extremely dark already
But the hotel is excellent and pretty affordable
Only bummer is that you have to walk a street and through a sister hotel's garden to get to the beach but who cares

The food so far (dinner only since I just arrived) has been excellent...

I can highly recommend Egypt for tourists!
However, if you choose to book a hotel in the Marsa Alam region (for example the five luxury resorts at the Soraya Bay), make sure take a flight to Marsa Alam Intl Airport and NOT Hurghada. The transfer took me five hours... and the 'streets' in the desert of Egypt are rather unpleasant
