That was not my point. If you dismiss Mariah's talent just because her image doesn't fit your liking, it's obvious you care about image more than actual talent.

I just hate that snobbish attitude from some rock fans, and thinly veiled sexism and racism that comes along with it.

I do think Mariah is talented tho (or was) . . . I really have respect for all of these AC vocalits (Celine, Mariah, Barbra, Whitney, Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, etc) they are truly gifted and what they do requires talent. I never implied they were untalented (that'd be ridiculous from my part).

I just said that the AC / vocalist prototype is not my style, I don't feel identified with it, hence I doubt I had ever stanned Mariah if I was a teen back in 1990 (which was Serby's question).

I haven't watched the movie in at least 25 years and I don't really think there's a demand for a sequel in 2018, but it does annoy me that Kelly McGillis was written out of the upcoming Top Gun 2 for the mere crime of the fact that she, who was a sexy attractive 28 year old blonde in 1986, actually LOOKS like a low-key average 60 year old woman with grey hair, not the best figure or haircut, etc.... I know Hollywood is about looks, but it is even more annoying given that Val Kilmer was invited back despite him looking like hell today as well. I get it, she could pass for Tom Cruise's mother today with all of Tom's work that has made him look much younger than he is, but it shows the sexism and ageism of Hollywood that she was told that there's no place for her in the sequel just because of the fact that she has managed to age in the last 32 years and not tried to hold on to her youth or beauty.
