I know it was on 2.5 years... but I sort of missed it. Gutted because there was no excuses really!

              • All the time, especially the older musicals.

16 of my Top 25 are songs from musicals, mainly Sondheim. I’m gonna try and get a ticket for Follies in a couple of weeks.

Sondheim wrote some great music. Even Madonna's More and Sooner Or Later are among my favorite Madonna songs ever.

                  • I thought Andrew Lloyd Webber was better than Sondheim for the longest time, but overall Sondheim has a much stronger quality of work.

Iím desperate for a London revival of Sunday In The Park with George.

                    • I was hoping the Jake Gyllenhall rendition would transfer to the West End. I wouldn’t be against a new version of Into The Woods. I rewatched the original broadway production (available on YouTube) and simply find Joanna Gleason utterly divine.

                      • I was gutted Jake never brought it over. My bank balance isn’t. Same with Hello Dolly and Bette Midler. Rumour was it was happening... and then it wasn’t. Which is just as well as Madge is due to announce a tour soon.

I try try not to listen to cast recordings until I’ve seen a show but occasionally I’ve relented and gone in search of something new. Really enjoying the new London Company cast recording and Follies from the National Theatre. Also keep forgetting Come From Away is now in town... that cast album (I caved) was one of my most played last year - such a wonderful story.

Had to use the facilities mid performance and hand on heart, believe one of the theatre ghosts was in there with me. Someone was grunting and shuffling... and it werenít me.

If you aren’t a regular theatre goer and are a fan of the show, you should enjoy it. I don’t mean to be snobbish - and I’m a huge fan of the show - but don’t bother if you’re looking for a decent musical.

That said, I enjoyed it. The songs are good for what they are, the cast is incredible and it’s basically a greatest hits of the show - most of the popular scenes are in it. Uncle Albert, the van appearing and the bar fall get huge cheers.

It’ll do well for about a year then survive a second say. But it will live forever on tour.

                                • Saw Come From Away today, loved it. A little bit basic but heartwarming and endearing.

I’m hoping to see Company tomorrow but am having to use annual leave to do so as Comapny has all the same showing times as Hamilton.

                                    • I saw Come From Away last Wednesday and really enjoyed it. It’s simple but lovely. I’m shocked that it’s based of true events, it was so well done and Rachel Tucker was awesome in her song (just been nominated for an Olivier too). Great musical.

The following day I went to see Company which i thoroughly enjoyed. Rosalie Craig was brilliant as was the supporting cast by the staging was phenomenal. The gender-reversing worked really well for the most part. Patti LuPone was good, but I’ve never really enjoyed the character of Joanne, and this was no different.

                                        • I saw Company again last weekend and itís one of the best things Iíve ever seen. Honestly, it is an almost perfect musical and works so well with Bobbie instead of Bobby.

Keeping the Sondheim theme going, I attended a National Theatre platform with the man himself tonight. It was only 40 minutes long, but to hear him talking about his work was very special - he wonít be around forever and Iíll still be watching and listening to his work in 50 years.

Thankfully he teased something new had been workshopped and had about 7 songs thus far. I hope he doesnít take too long - heís in his 80s...

It was. He did a talk there a year or two back and I cancelled my ticket and I’ve regretted it ever since. Now I’ve seen both Sondheim and Lloyd-Webber in stage - my thespian side is very satisfied. In fairness I’ve been in Sondheim’s presence before - he was in the audience the night I saw Emma Thompson in Sweeney Todd, but could I buggery see him in the audience

As much as I want more Sondheim, I like how his shows are revived regularly but sparingly - there’s always a sort of event feel to them when they do. But I need to tick more off my list - I’ve only seen Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Company, Follies, Merrily We Roll Along and Road Show. Which isn’t bad listed like that

I desperately need Jake to bring his sexy ass over here and do Sunday In The Park With George, and I’m still not over Angela Landsbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones not coming over with A Little Night Music. Never mind, I’m young - I’ll get them eventually

                                              • Agreed that SITPWG should have come over here for a brief time, it got such good reviews. I love listening to the soundtrack - the Sunday finale is one of my all-time favourites. I’ve also grown to love Jenna Russell’s voice on the soundtrack more than Bernadette (especially on Children and Art).

                                                • I can’t warm to Jenna Russell’s singing voice. Unsurprisingly I listen to the Jake cast album. I really hope he’s cast as Joe in the Sunset movie. I really, really can’t see anyone else in that role.

Had an email advertising Mean Girls earlier, glad that’s coming over - the west end could do with something in the vein of Legally Blonde. Also had an email about Big! going into the Dominion which is a travesty - it’s a barn and it won’t sell (so hopefully it’ll be papered).

I forget Gyllenhall could sing, I kept thinking how good he’d have been as Hugh jackman’s character in Greatest Showman (not that Jackman was nothing short of amazing). Never heard of Big! but apprehensive about seeing Mean Girls.
