I loved mid 2000's r&b mostly for the great singles. The albums were not it in that period...so much filler or just boring plotting songs.

Favorite R&B from that time period? Ursher’s Confessions? King - Bible Day?

          • The biggest shift, however, occurred when Britney essentially came out as a socialist. Captioning a post “Communion goes beyond walls” with three red rose emojis, the 38-year-old singer shared some words by queer Chinese-Australian writer Mimi Zhu that seemed to endorse redistributing wealth and general strikes. Comrade Spears had arrived.

            • Goldmoney Just curious, what are Timberlake's most popular songs among Urban audience (without judging by the stats)? I have a feeling they might be "Cry Me A River" followed by "Until The End of Time" with Beyonce but I could be wrong.

I get you would postpone an album if you didn't film the video for the lead single (and didn't even release one yet) and with stores being closed it impacts your sales. Especially considering there's no telling when exactly things will get back to normal.

But for artists that already started an era, had singles and vids out, had some other videos already filmed I think it's quite sad to see them postpone. Both Weeknd and Dua proved you can do it because people are aware of your album coming out and will be there for it.

That King duet is completely forgotten. Whenever chocolate people think of JT nowadays, their first thought is

But then they’ll get a lil sentimental and the songs that usually come to mind first are: “Sexyback,” “My Love,” “Cry Me a River,” and maybe “Suit & Tie” because that was his huge comeback hit after 84 years. “Rock Your Body” wasn’t a big black airplay hit but it’s so synonymous with him that I’ll hear it every once in a while.

What’s sad is that at one point, he had more chocolate credibility than Feminem ever had.

                          A mess.

I remember "Until The End of Time" ended up really high on the R&B/Hip-Hop airplay of the decade so I figured it would've been remember. Not surprised with your picks although #justiceforMirrors.

JT is still one my top artists and I still think he's one of the best male performers in Pop music as well but damn, he needs to shut up sometimes. I remember he made an insensitive comment during that one BET Awards speech and then he tried to save himself. And then I was just watching his recent interview with SZA & Anderson .Paak on Ellen and he literally wouldn't stop calling SZA 'sis' and I was just like...

                          • I try not to keep up with JT news, because I’ve had more than my fill of appropriators for one lifetime. I don’t think he’s a bigot per se but for someone who’s supposedly identified with black culture for most of his life, he has a really poor grasp of the modern-day black struggle. I guess that’s his southern side coming out. Sadly, the culture as a whole (as in black culture) has had to find this out the hard way by weeding out all these MAGA supporters and right-wing embarrassments that were right under our noses the entire time. It’s going to take a really long time before we get back to a level of comfort with external entities.

And yeah, sometimes chart stats are a farce. G-Eazy and Post Malone had black airplay #1s the last few years but they’re complete jokes to everyone I know.

JT’s black airplay stats as lead ftr:

                            #53 Like I Love You
                            #11 Cry Me a River
                            #45 Rock Your Body
                            #11 Sexyback
                            #2 My Love
                            #76 What Goes Around...
#3 Until the End of Time
                            #6 Suit & Tie
                            #30 Mirrors
                            #33 Take Back the Night

                            • Justin Timberlake declined like a piece of solid rock ever since 2006 with every album he did but no one gives him sh*t for it like they do when female artists decline.

Only one of his albums (“Future Sex”) was truly global and the rest of his albums were local as f*ck, particularly the last 3 albums which even reached Jeanette’s levels of local. But no one calls him out for that in the same way people are behind Mariah’s ass everyday for supposedly being local.

His last album was a 50/100 metascore f*cking flop .... but somehow it is the end of the world when a Diva pulls these tragic numbers.

His performance at the SuperBowl is without a doubt one of the worst TV performances ever, he’s truly poison for SuperBowl considering he was also involved in Janet’s nipple incident years ago.

                              ——

Ultimately enough he is NOT among the best selling artists of all time and not even among the best selling ones from the 2000s decade. He doesn’t have ANY song among the Top 50 most streamed hits from the 2000s and his views on Youtube for most of his music videos are quite bad which makes me think he’s nothing but overrated specially when even Avril Lavigne has better stats than him.

Additionally he appropiated many cultures, ripped Michael Jackson, exploited his relationships and sings like a girl.

                              —-

Anyways ... his best song will always be “Cry Me A River” (which is a terrific pop song) and we can partly thank Britney for that piece, had she not messed up with him that song dedicated to her would have never been conceived.

                                      • 'Futuresex/Lovesounds' was an amazing album, indeed. 'The 20/20 Experience' was another solid effort for me. After that, he lost a bit of drive. I wish he'd evolve as a musician, so regarding 'Man of the Wood', it would've been a risky but necessary move to either go full on country or at least have some 'I Am...Sasha Fierce' type pf record with good (!) urban jams on one side and honkytonky country chants on the other.
