                • I had a truly horrible week. I'm coming home for holiday after 8 months now, and I can barely feel the relief.

                    • Working 5 days a week is such an outdated concept that never seems to get reformed. It's an open secret that literally no one gets anything done on Fridays

The same applies for working 8 or 9 hours a day. Only 3 to at most 5 hours are real productive work. The rest is just chatting or browsing the net

I totally agree. 8 hours a day is just not possible, especially during the summer period.

I also would welcome a 4 day working week. Would be sufficient enough.

No, people are already too lazy, a bit work doesn't hurt them and actually keeps them more focused in life. After the past year of ongoing lockdowns, we should cherish the side effects of work (=stability, structure, socialisation, adding something to society, having a task in life,...).

6 hours a day and a 4 day working week seems optimal. Productivity would increase (as most studies show) so the employer would also benefit while the employees have more time to actually enjoy life. A win-win for all parties and yet here we are...

I’m not lazy. I actually like to work and I do so seriously and efficiently. However, for me at least, during the summer period there’s just nothing / not as much to do. Everyone goes on vacation, business is generally quiet anyway so why do I need to be present for 8 hours anyway? There are days I have 1 hour of work a day in August, sometimes 2-4 hours. But never 8.

I really like going to the office and like to work in general but 8 hours a day for 5 days really doesn’t reflect the truth. Even during busy periods, people don’t work 8 hours a day

Yikes at those projections. Speak for yourself.

Also re-read again. We are saying that with the current working model there are countless hours where nothing gets done and are wasted. Decreasing the amount of working hours would actually increase productivity while decreasing costs.

                                • LotsOfLove : Haha, how funny that you have less to do during summer when it's the time of the year where I am busy as I usually do the holiday substitution and stuff ^^ .
aRat : I think the Left said something like that before, and I can't take that party seriously, unfortunately. Maybe we are talking about specific branches, but I don't see an increase of productivity by decreasing the amount of working hours when you work in service-oriented fields. I've met so many people who said that they were so happy when they could work again after this lockdown mess, that I can't imagine someone seriously wanting less at this stage.

                                    • Also managers who purposedly "work" extra hours just to seem like they are beyond busy and over-worked are the worst. Like most of our managers don't know how the simplest excel formulas or power point formats work for example yet they have the nerve to act like they are busy doing work on spreadsheets or presentations all day

Or maybe because they are so bad and inefficient it takes them extra hours coz they have to analyse information or calculate things manually?

Working less hours not working at all.

                                        It's a really simple distinction.

                                        • Yeah, I totally got you. I just don't believe working less hours to be more effective or benefiting to the individual worker.

                                              • Here is the thing... as a young teacher... like myself... you have to work for 7 hours a day in the school and when you come home... you can easily put in another 3 hours... so that's 9 hours of work per day... and if you have written a class test with a group... this work after school time can easily increase to 5 hours... = 12 hours per day.

That is why we deserve a 2 weeks holiday break every 8 weeks. <3

I actualy read about a company who implemented 4 working days, and the productivity actualy went up, so long hours and 5 days aren't that necessary.
No one truly works 8 hours.
