I met my ex boyfriend on grindr. Wasn't expecting it as I was browsing for the usual We ended up being together for over a year.

In general though I do agree. I also really, really hate grindr. I think it does more harm than good to the gay male psyche. But i'm trying to ween myself off of it. I find it to be really a toxic place.

    • On one of my dating apps, there are people who search for relationships and ones who search for something physical. That's OK for me. If they are transparent about it, I can filter them out without much effort. I would say that half of the users have got pictures of themselves in their profiles, the other half hasn't. I only communicate with people with pictures. Regarding my profile: I openly state that I search for an relationship, haven't got any explicit content in there, and my public pictures don't show any lower body features. The most I would show is my upper body as you could see that in e.g. public swimming pools as well, but my physique is not good enough (yet) for me to want to show it.
Anyway, I live in a small town environment, and so every time someone new registers there with their location either in my town or the neighbouring communities, I wonder whether I've actually seen them before ^^ . Yesterday, that new user (who deleted his account today, so probably was only looking for a sole meeting) wrote me a message that went like: 'We're in the same village. I'm alone at home. Do we want to meet?'. I denied. Today, another person from the same village sent me his pictures and simply stated 'hi'. This actually happened a few times before, so I'm slowly starting to believe that half of the village is secretly into dudes ^^ . As stated before, I'm not looking for anything physical, but even if I was, I can't imagine that I've never seen them in real life before; so if you want to get intimate with me, why don't you just tell me face-to-face?

      • I can think of several reasons.

        It could be social anxiety.
It could be they are closeted.
It could be they have a partner.
        It could be spam.

Thank you for consulting my Grindr expertise. That will be $200.

        • Is there a student tariff ^^ ? But yeah, thanks. I guess my online persona is too much like my offline one to understand how people act all confident online but don't get their teeth apart in the real world.

          • So there's a guy I have seen on grindr. I've wanted to hook up with him for a couple months now - he's often one of the closest people to me. He's really hot - lives at the gym, tan, incredible smile, that jawline....anyhow. I'd say he's in his 30s. I messaged him a couple times and got ignored, but then days later, he responded. Turns out he is in my neighborhood and is down to hook-up when he has time - which he says shouldn't be a problem. But then he ignores me again. Then last week, out of the blue, he sends me a video of him walking his dog around our neighborhood... occasionally pulling his shorts down and exposing himself. I'm like that's here? In THIS neighborhood?

So not a deterrent for me at all... we're all talking about meeting again.

THIS MORNING, I'm on my alt twitter and one of the thirst trap guys I follow retweets a video from this neighbor! I'm like, wait, that's him! I go to his twitter feed - A) he has SEVERAL videos walking around our neighborhood doing the same thing and B) he has an OF account. It would be stalkerish to see if I could track him down when he's walking, right? Or check his OF? yeah, I guess it would be. But if we do hook-up, I'm gonna have to let him know I can't be OF content.

OT - IF you were to namedrop his twitter handle it would not be the worst thing in the world

              • Yes, I use one! My feed is not all adult, but definitely all guys who I think are hot.

As for his account, it's all adult content, so I won't. But you can bet I followed it.

Slide into my DM's, I should be in your most used I rarely use twitter but sometimes i check out some hot accounts like that when im bored. Insta got very strict it seems so it pushed a lot of those sorts of guys back to twitter.

It's an alternate twitter account from your main one.

                              • Reading your guys convo it got me thinking how I hardly ever met with guys who literally sell sex on an app… super hot or not. It is nice for a swift solo wank, but I find it very unattractive to meet up with someone who shows off constantly. Like… I want to be excited (or disappointed) when I open the package. It is half the fun. Also to have sex I need some type of click with that person, not love or whatever. Just on a basic human level. I’m talking about deliberate meet-ups, not drunk sex. In summary, I do like teasing but not exposing .

                                • I know a lot of people (not personally, but people I follow on Twitter) who have alt accounts.

I've thought about setting one up myself - not for sharing my own dirty photos/videos but just so I can have a separate account for liking/following some of these accounts. On a related note, it's so cringey when other people "like" posts on Twitter that end up showing up on my TL that are basically pornographic - I wonder if everyone knows that happens when you like something...

                                  • Yeah, I don’t have an issue in getting into a dating app, seeing someone hot and then be f*cking 20 min later.

So if you write a comment on something does that also show up on the timeline of people who follow you? I would never have thought that liking something would make it show up on the timeline of people who follow me lol. That's so dumb tbh.

                                          • I finally got a new match on Tinder, and at first, it was a combination of positive aspects: He was really handsome, his community of origin is not far away, he even actually answered my first message. I asked early on what he's looking for as I primarily look for a relationship, am OK with a friendship but do not seek something solely based on sex. He approved that.
The first few message exchanges went well, but then his posts quickly had that 'I don't care' undertone (e.g. only answering in a short way, no questions in return). In the beginning, I still tried to come up with questions myself to keep the conservation going, but it gets lame when it only comes from one side.
I wrote him, as I had to head off to work, that I enjoyed the conversation and that he's free to reply to me if he felt the same. He wrote that he enjoyed it as well, but there's been only one more message which was a bit 'bla', to be honest, and none at all in a day.
This got me wondering: Why do people even bother to engage in matching with other people when their style of communication is so... passive?

Unsure at this stage whether it was her Tinder date who actually murdered her but totally shocking all the same.

I wondered that too. Instagram are so strict and yet literally anything goes on Twitter. It's like a free only fans.
