What irks me... is that businesses... want to return to normal, ie ending home office mandates... etc... so even IF people want to be cautious and protect themselves and try to avoid people during the pandemic... they probably can't. And that is frustrating...
I mean it could be worth a try to open everything and see if people can protect themselves on their own terms... But too many people are forced into crowded places... and that is not OK.
Honestly, I have no idea how we could win in this fight against Covid-19. I think we eventually won't. I've read that only a little of 1% of African populations have been vaccinated... and that means that over 1,2 billion people on that continent alone still aren't... and you know, with all the mutations going on... it is only a matter of time until we have one strain that is not responding to the current vaccines anymore.
Maybe this rather simple disease could become a trigger for another wave of evolution and wipe 90% of all humanity out and produces a stronger new-type of human... idk... but the situation is looking very grim at the moment...
The history books will also show that we brought this on our own... by not reaction, or doing too little too late. We are still putting economy over human lives... and that why we will always lose and can't have good things.

And yes, it is political, because most of the people who are demanding an end to restrictions will be Boris’ voters.

He may be smart, but his rhetorics are awful. He always assumes the worst case scenario and presents him in the most dramatic way. He is hardcore pro measurements. What also needs to be mentioned: He studied medicine and medical economics but has never really worked as either a medical doctor or a virologist, which is why the media refer to him as 'health expert'. I still don't know why he gets more media attention than the health minister or 'real' virologists. Oh yeah, and he loves the media attention. He was nowhere pre-Corona, and now can be seen in every 2nd freaking type of media discussing Corona in some way.
He recently said 'The UEFA is responsible for the death of people.'. Yeah, it was them who forced the people to get into the stadions. His views come across as a bit socialist, as if the people were too dumb to make decisions on their own and need to be 'rescued' by him. It's not as if Germany had a bad history with that...

Mr Lauterbach on herd immunity:
This correlates to what stevyy said the other day !
Like many others, Lauterbach is urging to intensify the German vaccination campaign. At least 85% of 12-to-59-year-olds and 90% of people over 60 would have to be fully vaccinated to create herd immunity. As of July 8, only 40% of the population is fully vaccinated in Germany. Among people older than 60, that number is 67%.Last edited by InFamous; Sun July 11, 2021, 01:01.

Seems like you know pretty well about who is vaccinated and who is not.
Anyway, just because booster vaccinations are discussed does not mean that there is political or even scientific consensus about them.

I think spiritboy showed interest in a 3rd vaccination, didn't he?
Experts suggest that a 3rd vaccination is not necessary any time soon, unless you've got a really bad immune system. Vaccinations are supposed to have a lasting effect and too much vaccination can actually harm the immune system. Pharma companies are, however, interested in earning money, and therefore are pushing towards a 3rd dose (source).

There's not any ultimate definition of a lockdowns; there are ones that are stricter and ones that are looser. For me lockdown is when infrastucture is forced to close. Then there's also quarantine and curfew - two different things. In this case: Clubs and properly other businesses are forced to close by state regulations. If I was a club owner or a bartender, hell yeah I would call that lockdown.
If everything was open but there's a limit of people allowed in, I would not call that a lockdown.
