  • Dame Vera Lynn dies, aged 103

Dame Vera Lynn, the Forces' Sweetheart whose songs helped raise morale in World War Two, has died aged 103.

The singer's family confirmed she died on Thursday morning surrounded by her close relatives.

"The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers at the age of 103," a statement said.

Dame Vera was best known for performing for the troops during World War Two in countries including India and Burma.

Her family said information on a memorial will be announced at a later date.
What a woman! One of the most recognisable British names when it comes to WW2. RIP.

Sadly it's impossible to see her posthumously on the top of UK singles chart in streaming era.

Her "Travellin' Home" is my favourite single of 1957 year from UK chart.
My celebrity crushes : Monika Sedziuviene, Kristina Ivanova (YVA).
In my head I like to imagine LastDreamer in the land of Lithuania right now with a suitcase of simcards, a box of chocolates and a wedding ring. It would be a great base for an epic Eurovision fan fiction.

Potentially the most famous song in British history? I mean this is up there with Happy Birthday...

What a total legend, who lived a long and happy life - she belonged to a generation of people that we have so much to be thankful to - RIP Dame Vera.

I don't know her, but it was great to see her return to No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart more than 10 years ago - at 90+ . Her music definitely has had major influence in the UK. Rest in peace!
Is it offensive to fall in love with you and everything you do
            and everything you stand for?
Could I break through your invisible wall, could I hide my pride for once,
just to tell you that I see more?

As suspected, her catalogue has seen some movement on iTunes - not huge movement as you wouldn't expect for someone of her generation, but pleasing to see nonetheless:

Apart from the "We'll Meet Again" song, I mostly know her from chart commentaries which were always full of praise.
Will catch up and definitely watch the BBC tribute!.
