It's a negociation, both sides will lose something and and win something. You can't expect the EU to lay on the red carpet for the UK to leave, when it's not a situation that benefits the union.
The UK had 3 years to negotiate a deal. To me it seems that the politicians don't want to leave and certainly don't want to be attached to any deal because it might damage their political aspirations in the future, in case things go wrong.

This is basically how UK comes off. May is pushing for her deal and nobody wants close to it, yet there aren't any other options UK is giving. They just want an exit with a deal, but not May deal. What kind of a deal they actually want, they're clueless about. I'm pretty sure if they got everything they asked they'd still reject the deal, just because they don't seem willing to man up, bite and go for it.

And the most hilarious thing is that referendum result wasn't legally binding as is the case in majority of other countries. So politicians themselves have put themselves in this position.

Ultimately the petition means nothing though. It isn’t reflective of the electorate, in that it’s open to all ages. Plus I very much doubt a debate on revoking Article 50 wouldn’t have been proposed by at least one MP anyway.

I think it’s a last effort from those desperately hoping we won’t leave that won’t amount to much.

LOL. OK. That might be the sentiment in the UK, but I just read a nice article here that ponders how a land of brilliant writers, scientist, etc. manages to be so stupid in 21st century. And I'm pretty sure the same sentiment is prevalent in the rest of the EU countries who are tired of Brexit and just want it to be over. 3 years is enough to come to an agreement, EU did have some leeway and made certain compromises, yet UK doesn't want to compromise anything. So who isn't negotiating there?

Why would EU accept whatever UK wants? What is the reason for that? Should 20+ countries bend over backwards to UK just because they're UK? They might as well build a wall around the island à la Trumps USA/Mexico.

And that is exactly why the EU is failing. Instead of solidarity there is bitterness and resentment which is perfectly expressed in your post.

Notice how it doesn't cross the mind of our democratically-elected leaders the need to respect the will of the democratically-elected parliament in the UK? Democracy? who cares? and that's exactly why the EU is in the state it is in right now.

Well I ended up there after I saw a matinee this afternoon, so I probably saw it when it was officially all over and done with, but Trafalgar Square was super busy, as was the road down to Parliament. Which is the walk I did and then hopped on the tube at Westminster.

So I didn’t do the official march thing at 12pm, but easily a couple hundred thousand people hanging around when I got there, chanting and drinking. It had a carnival feel - a few performers and speakers etc. Lots of clever signs too - got to love a good British pun (I quite liked ‘Brexterminate’). The giant head of May (above) was parked right outside the gate of Downing Street - I assume she hasn’t popped out for a pint of milk today

The amount of signs left on the streets though. Hundreds - if not thousands - just abandoned. Ironic, considering the protest was against the mess in parliament. Lots of hate for May, Rees-Mogg, Boris and Cameron, and frankly they all deserve it.
