My biggest worry now is the Conservatives promised a referendum on Europe in 2017 , that's 2 years of uncertainty about our position in the EU. Given how some people don't even know who the leaders of the main parties were in this election, I'm not sure I trust them to take such an important decision as UK membership of the EU. We could be on a fast track to exit which would be a disaster.

An EU referendum is what a majority of UK people want though isn't it?

However, a majority of UK people would also vote to remain according to a February YouGov poll.

I think we need to have the referendum to show Europe we're serious about renegotiating our place and contributions. But I do think when push comes to shove, most will make the sensible decision of choosing to stay.

It looks like the main story of the night will be the collapse of the Lib Dem vote and the Conservatives picking up those seats. Also Labour losing most of their Scottish seats to the SNP.

UKIP donor has said that he thinks the conservatives have won Thanet South. Such a shame imo...if anyone deserved their seat at this election it was Farage. He really shot himself in the foot saying he'd resign as UKIP party leader if he lost in Thanet South, looks like all the other party's have voted conservative there just to keep him out

That world-famous statistician that predicted perfectly the outcome of the US General Election, state-by-state, predicted on Panorama that the Conservatives would get 283 seats, Labour would get 270 seats and the SNP would get 48. Meaning that only a Conservative-SNP formation could form a majority government.

So many different outcomes to this, I can't wait until Thursday/Friday. So excited to go and vote!

Yes, I think it's becoming clear the Exit poll is correct The Conservatives held Nuneaton with a swing from Lab to Con , and this was one of the seats Labour really needed to win.

The country has basically split in two - Scotland is drifting away from us, and English voters have reacted in fear.

Greens have done well, though so i'm glad of that (nice to see them joint second here, too! ). And my local Stockton North denied our ridiculous ABBA murdering singing witch UKIP candidate her expected second place . I suspect there were substantial spoiled ballots by denied Greens like me that contributed to the difference.

And wow at Douglas Alexander getting ousted by the youngest MP since 1667. Amazing - the political story of the century!
