Labour are backing a second referendum but I read on Twitter that they're refusing to commit to "Remain" as one of the options.
I despise politics these days, it makes me irate just thinking about the sheer incompetence of our politicians and how broken our political system is.Comment

Corbyn should offer May support for her deal, but ask for a second referendum in return. And May should accept. She's not getting her deal through parliament with Tory and DUP votes alone. And the new independent group is also making no-deal virtually impossible. So let people choose between the deal and remain.Comment

Well deal or no deal Brits should understand by now that any benefits from Brexit will appear down the line, say in 5-10 years time. There will be no immediate benefits whatsoever. And that means that no matter what will happen, media will portray Brexit as a massive failure, the UK as a state close to failing and the EU the fountain of eternal wellbeing no doubt (ignoring of course the negative effects a no-deal Brexit will have on smaller EU economies such as Ireland's whose interests the EU is still supposed to be representing). But that is to be expected, the real interesting thing to watch is how the UK (and in comparison the EU) will be doing in 2030 or so and whether Brexit will be viewed as a story to inspire or a story to regret by that time...jio CHARTS NOW:3/10/2023: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...5#post11271015Comment

Well it is a huge change and it did come about for all the wrong reasons but people seem to miss the historical significance of it all. All the discussion is about what stupid thing politician x or y may have said or done or whether the british gdp will fall by 1 or 5% the next year or if the Slovene worker will be able to stay or not and forget that something much bigger is at play here and that is essentially the structure of the post-war order in Europe.jio CHARTS NOW:3/10/2023: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...5#post11271015Comment

That video however forgets a major point: that you start a negotiation with maximalist positions and gradually give up ground until you reach an agreement. The UK does not have to have an agreement identical to any of the existing ones with non-EU members. But it does have to give up on at least some of its opening positions and the same has to be done by the EU as well (since it is in the interest of at least a few members states not to have a no deal Brexit). So in that sense the above video's main message is flawed...jio CHARTS NOW:3/10/2023: https://www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-di...5#post11271015Comment
