  • So no one is going to remove Thombus' "Jimmy Savile" pic? Not only does it contain an f bomb (apparently forbidden on a "family forum") but it alludes to Graham being a paedophile.
Which is not what he was saying. Though his original sentence is rather messily written, i'll admit.

    "Uncounted"? Uncourted?
He meant he was looking to marry from then AS a 14-yr old then, not now TO a 14-yr old now. I think his history nugget later is all that is, not a justification for HIS practices.

    It's all rather off-topic, anyway.

What does he propose, home schooling from 12 onwards? A complete education gap until 21? Night time single sex classes only? You can't stop horny teens meeting each other and to exclude the most important aspect of teenhood from the daytime schedule is nuts. Part of the reason it's in the daytime and to a strict schedule is to prepare them for the schedule of a working day. Start restricting education to the home and outside of the norm and you end up with kids going off to the middle east to join ISIS. That's how cliques and cults start. There is talk of having sociology as a key part of sex education - because usually they only talk about the physical, not the emotional implications so things like issues of consent are being introduced. More of this kind of attitude in schools would lead to them being more ready for the adult world.
He also assumes that 100% of teens are only bothered about who they want to s*rew and don't bother actively seeking out a decent start in life. We are not ruled by our hormones, the planets or anything else more than we are our brains. We can choose what we want in life, most of the time. I hated most of my time in senior school but i wouldn't want to change the process at all. I am not the product of my secondary education, i'm the product of my pre-school infancy. Start with the home, not the school. That's where the problems are.

    • Cameron in a mess over "tampon tax".

      listen

Posted 18 minutes ago by Evan Bartlett (@ev_bartlett) in people

Forget Evan Davis, Andrew Neil or Emily Maitlis, David Cameron has faced his toughest BBC interview yet - from a group of young listeners on Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

The prime minister took part in a half hour Q&A with a group of young people where he was relentlessly grilled on issues like the LGBT community, the SNP and the “tampon tax”.

Presenter Chris Smith even offered Mr Cameron a £1,000 wager that he would not win a majority at the election (an offer he did not decide to take him up on).

However, his biggest problem came with the living wage. After a particularly heated exchange with April from West London, in which the prime minister was repeatedly pressed on whether he would like to see a living wage introduced and if he could live off £6.50 an hour (the minimum wage), he became really unstuck when Smith asked him about one crucial piece of information.

      Here’s a brief transcript:

You do know how much the living wage is don’t you?

      Chris Smith
Well it depends on different parts of the country. And we pay, and for instance…

      David Cameron
      Outside London then?

      Chris Smith
For instance, in Downing Street we pay the living wage and I want more parts of government to do so…

      David Cameron
Sorry, do you know how much the living wage is?

      Chris Smith
Well in… it’s different in different parts of the country.

      David Cameron
      Ok, how much in London?

      Chris Smith
I don’t have the figures in my head. But, it’s different to the living wage…

      David Cameron

What difference does it make if you post your vote or turn up?
Education for anyone aged 12 to 16 has made a mess of the world!

                • Well if it's a postal one, I'm likely to forget to bother, but I will make the effort to go to the polling station on the day.

                  • I go out and vote at the polling stations - it's like the ultimate stamp of approval in a democratic society. Probably sounds really cringey.

This will be only my second vote - I probably only have 11 more votes left in my lifetime! I want to actually go and vote as often as I can, not just post it.

                      • Hmm, afaik you don't need to register for voting if you're already on the voting list (which happens automatic when you turn 18).
be kind to every kind (also the unkind kind!!!!! )

Even in Serbia, you have to register to vote. How do you not know this, Serby? :-?

This confused me when that Dimbleby guy said it on the tv, I thought before we just got our ticket through the post if we were on the electoral roll, but I think it's changed?

Everyone over 18 has to individually register to be on the electoral register (and something called the open register which is optional) now instead of parents / head of household adding us to the electoral roll etc. etc. Everyone should've been sent a letter to the address they're registered at on the roll about it but the change didn't run smoothly and most aren't even aware of the change as you'd expect.

I think that's why they've sent a letter out to every address well before polling cards cofirming if we're registered or not.

I frogot to mention I was talking about Serbia, but now I'm confused. I think once you are in the voting base (actually, I think you get invitation to do this), you don't have to register every year. Or is biscuits not registred at all?

You only need to register to vote at an address once. Obviously if you move, you have to do it again to change address.

Don't you vote in local elections ? It seems like I'm voting for some new council member every year
I go down to the Polling Station every time and mix with the 'blue rinse brigade' , it always seems to be just old people there. Well, I guess it's like a day out for them This is my 6th General Election, which is pretty scary
It might sound like I'm an unapologetic bitch

However at any election they send out a letter to each address to say who's entitled to vote there. If someone doesn't qualify anymore, or someone new qualifies you have to send it back with the new information on. There's a certain time limit to complete the electoral register. Once the date is past, no new registrations can be entered.
From the number of expensively made adverts on TV, it's clear that getting people to register before the date set is a problem. Presumably a lot of people turn up at the polling booths who are not registered to vote, otherwise they would not need to run the adverts.
The Government also know who's registered to vote and don't. Since each person who has voted is checked off the electoral register, to prevent duplicate votes, or voting fraud, hence the time limit on registering.
