"UK pays more into the EU than we get back." That's the flawed logic which brought you were you are now thinking that in this day and age it's better to be off alone, leave the sinking ship just to discover it wasn't this bad after all. Sometimes a reality check is indeed needed. You're not going to be the next Greece and England won't burst into flames but the benefits of being part of the EU are much greater than getting money out if it.

Well this is a UK decision, not an English decision. I really donít see any advantages in remaining now to be honest now. To stay is the easier option but I donít believe itís the right one now. I donít believe in the EU. I support its original ideologies but I donít think the EU is the right body to deliver that now.

She wants to write history at any cost.
Of course I think that, otherwise why would I have posted it?

The reality is that she is doing something now that contradicts her stance during the remain/leave EU campaign - she has risked party unity and governmental stability to deliver the people's wish to exit the EU. So yes RayRay, I do "really think that".

The cynic in me wants to think she got a deliberately bad deal to force parliament's hand, but I don't think she's that conniving - did she possibly know this was coming all along and now wants to see how it play out?

      • UK is damned if it goes out and damned if it stays.
The existence of the UK as a whole can become a legitimate issue ever since Scotland's view on EU is different.

The existence of the UK is not up for debate. A United Kingdom in name and monarchy. There is no such thing as Scotland gaining independance simply because they want to be in the EU.

literally Germany / France / Italy et al... begged the UK to remain and change the EU together with them and make it better than before... But the UK said: NO thanks! You don't have to believe in the EU, but trust Europe to find a way. It is the first time since before WW1 that the UK preferred isolation over commitment.

I really wonder how that will play out.

I think it's naive to think she is just doing her job. There are not many politicians "just doing their job". Most of them are in it for power/money/fame. Even some that start out sincere.

I think she is very fake. First she is against Brexit than she gets the power and suddenly she is just doing her job...
Not listening to anyone, just goes ahead and all she says again and again she only does it because a few more voters wanted Brexit...

If the EU and Nato ever dissolve then Europe will go back to being in constant bloody wars just like it was for basically all of it's history. Some seem to forget that the current peaceful state of Europe is an anomaly and not the rule and directly dependent on the existence of the EU (& Nato).

The history shows us that some countries (namely federations and confederations) were dissolved via local parliaments, so don't be too surprised if one day UK goes the same Soviet Union route of mutual dissolution.

this is absurd in as much as European countries depend on each other... but it certainly helps against bullies like the US, Russia and China.

Those are gigantic countries... tiny France, tiny Germany, tiny Italy et al have no powers to keep them at bay. The EU, however, has.

The EU should now actively try to make Ukraine a member state despite their flaws. Imagine the 2nd biggest country by landmass in Europe becoming an viable economy. That would be the true middle finger to Russia.

We are divorcing the EU. We basically agreed in mediation how we would do the divorce in an amicable way... and when weíve gone away to think about it we (the UK) decided we didnít like the agreement (ie voted whether we like it or not) - and we decided we did not.

I mean we want the divorce, but after mediation we think weíre being screwed over. So weíre telling them where to shove it. Basically.

So you want the divorce but you want a special and unreasonable one, unlikely to ever come true. What happens then?

Whatís the likely thing to happen with this voting result?

We are divorcing the EU. We basically agreed in mediation how we would do the divorce in an amicable way... and when weíve gone away to think about it we (the UK) decided we didnít like the agreement (ie voted whether we like it or not) - and we decided we did not.

I mean we want the divorce, but after mediation we think weíre being screwed over. So weíre telling them where to shove it. Basically.
So you want the divorce but you want a special and unreasonable one, unlikely to ever come true. What happens then?
In a bitter divorce, who doesnít want everything their way?
