  • Absolutely horrible result, but not really shocking. Labour didn't even try. Don't get why they didn't form an alliance with the Lib Dems. How do you lose 4 elections in a row and manage to lose seats in the 4th? Surely that's unprecedented for any democratic country.

    Scotland winning tho.

    • The worst Labour result since 1935, if the exit polls carry through.

Labour went unapologetically to the Left, and got assaulted by the mainstream media and the in-party catfights left, right & centre. Plus those people ridiculously voted for Tories because of that moronic Brexit reason.

                                • Jeremy Corbyn has indicated he will not continue on as Labour leader.

Jo Swinson (leader of the Lib Dem’s) lost her seat.

Dennis Skinner, who has held his seat for nearly 50 years, has now lost it.

This is our “Trump election” in terms of shock and what this means for U.K. political change.

Exactly, people haven’t voted for the Conservative policies, they’ve voted for Brexit. Such a silly and dangerous mentality. To see the coverage of blue on the map on Britain is astonishing and heartbreaking.

They will all sorely regret this.

So many mistakes in hindsight - not having a stance on Brexit, focussing too hard on the working class/student demographic, Corbyn being so unpopular... their new leader needs to be Blair 2.0 or they have no chance for the decade coming up.

This result just goes to show how uneducated half of this country is and how much power the gutter press holds. Too many people don’t look beyond the headlines, have they not learned from the lies of the referendum?!

                                            • What a disaster. I voted Labour but with a heavy heart as I don't like the politics of Jeremy Corbyn. He's far too left wing for my liking and is stuck in the 1970s, wanting to renationalise everything. Time for him to go and to go now, not two years down the line. And he needs to be replaced by someone who is more moderate.

I'd love to know what people outside the UK think of our electoral system. The sight of Boris Johnson standing there giving his speech after he was re-elected as an MP is priceless. Not Johnson but the sight of the guy standing behind him, specifically Lord Buckethead of the Monster Raving Loony Party. He was dressed with, as you can guess, a bucket on his head- only in the UK can you get this!

Maybe if it was a pretty poster boy like David Miliband or even Tony Blair with a "New Labour" neoliberal tag attached to it.
But Corbyn (and his shadow cabinet, specifically Diane Abbott) were easy targets for the Tory Media militia.

Basically this. I've met Jeremy Corbyn, many years ago when I worked for what was then the DHSS (it's now the DWP), he was one of the local MPs who visited the office I worked in and he seemed like a thoroughly decent man when I was talking to him. But as a leader he's been an unmitigated disaster.
