What kind of misleading title? She hasn’t been found guilty of anything yet. It might be a foregone conclusion but it’s not official yet.

IMO while there’s evidence that she failed to pay taxes and she will be for sure guilty (there’s no escape). It’s hard to prove she was planning to hide, run or refusing to pay by claiming innocence considering she paid the full amount ($15 million dollars) the minute she was informed. The fact that the debt was paid in full and that she’s not looking to keep the money and fight in court for her innocence pushing the Bahamas narrative and that she didn’t owe anything is something that will reduce her sentence tremendously.

I literally think she’ll walk out of this with a fine and community service. I don’t see her staying a day in prison.

I’d be very surprised if she did go to prison, but according to the Spanish authorities she tried to defraud them by millions - does it really matter if she paid it all once found out? I don’t see the benefit in a prison term but I do see a significantly hefty fine incoming.

^ I think there’s no way she saves from this, once this goes to trial the verdict will likely be that she is guilty.

I don’t think she will serve jail time tho. The fact that she immediately paid the full amount ($15 million dollars) might reduce the sentence time to less than two years and she might be exonerated from jail time but will likely be fined and get community service or something like that.

Spanish court dismisses Shakira appeal in tax fraud case

MADRID -- A court in Spain on Thursday dismissed Colombian singer Shakira's appeal in a tax fraud case, paving the way for a trial after a judge previously concluded there was enough evidence to suggest the pop star may have avoided her fiscal obligations to the state.

The case first made headlines in December 2018 after Spanish prosecutors charged the singer with failing to pay 14.5 million euros ($15.5 million) in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

Shakira, 45, denied any wrongdoing when she testified in June 2019.

At the heart of the legal wrangling is the question of the singer’s residence: Prosecutors allege she lived mostly in Spain despite having an official residence in the Bahamas.

In its decision issued Thursday, the Spanish court said the evidence suggests Shakira was “a habitual resident in Spain,” adding that documentation failed to substantiate her residence for tax purposes in another country.

The court upheld a July ruling in which Spanish Judge Marco Juberías wrote that his three-year probe found there existed “sufficient evidence of criminality” for the case to go to trial.

Shakira’s public relations firm said Thursday that she had immediately paid what she owed once she was informed of the debt by Spain's Tax Office.

“Shakira’s conduct on tax matters has always been impeccable in all the countries where she has had to pay taxes, and she has trusted and faithfully followed the recommendations of the best specialists and expert advisors,” the P.R. firm said in a statement.

Shakira’s legal team will continue to “defend her innocence,” according to the statement.

The singer faces a possible fine and a prison sentence, if found guilty of tax evasion. However, a judge can waive prison time for first-time offenders if they are sentenced to less than two years behind bars.

Apparently the court is siding with Shakira on this? But the 14.5M trial is still pending.
Shakira's defence should have been that it's a common knowledge that "her hips don't lie"

If Messi, Ronaldo and countless others were able to commute their prison time for fines, so will Shakira.

It’s not even being reported by a reputable news outlet, so I’m not convinced it’s even real at this point.
