Taylor Swift tops list of 2019’s highest-paid musicians

Other names on the list include Lady Gaga, Fleetwood Mac and Kanye West

The singer made $185m (£148m) in pre-tax earnings from June 2018 to June 2019. The bulk of Swift’s earnings came thanks to a new record deal, an array of endorsements and the tail end of her recent ‘Reputation’ stadium tour, which is adjudged to be the highest-grossing tour in US history.

It’s the second time in five years that Swift has topped the list, the last time being in 2016 when her pre-tax earnings were calculated to be $170m (£136m).

It comes at a difficult time for Swift after she recently lost much of her back catalogue to Big Machine label boss Scooter Braun.

Elsewhere on the list, Kanye West came in second place having earned an estimated $150m (£120m), while Ed Sheeran came in third and is the highest-ranking Brit with estimated pre-tax earnings of $110m (£88m).

Rounding out the Top 5, The Eagles landed at four with $100m and Elton John claimed the fifth spot, collecting $84m in 2019 in the midst of his farewell tour.

Celine's been making sub $40m every singlr year since 2003, it's absurd.

Still, these lists are fun to look at.

Just shows how little control new artists have over their earnings when Billie Eillish and Lewis Capaldi were two of the biggest selling artists of the year.

As if anyone besides their accountants would know. But watch stans argue and throw numbers around as if they make a living of it.

it's weird how she tops this list with $100M+ every year, but her net worth is still lower than the other girls'..

spending too much on payola and to hire 'friends'?

I guess mom and dad market is really big in the US. And he didn't even have that many tour dates in 2019 from what I can see so the earnings must have been huge.

On the contrary, his profile has only been growing. Pairing up with Trump seems to have boosted his career. He is now a huge celebrity, more than anything else. His music is topping charts and everything he does appears to have a lot of visibility. It's a bit sad. Someone's values apparently don't matter.

I thought Kanye West peaked popularitywise with 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy', interesting to know that he's still got a market somewhere. In fact, he's even ahead of Ed Sheeran, whose albums stay in the worldwide top 10 for decades - impressive!

There's just no money in streaming; even with Drake numbers, it's nothing compared to what you could make as a big start from album sales.

Nowadays, the money is in touring - 90% of that list toured in the last 12 months.

He's not made his money because of music though, he's made it because of his other businesses - same with Rihanna.

Not saying that's a bad thing, just that the Ed comparison is not really valid.
