I think a more proper era in 2013, after Idol would've been more sucessful than MIAM but not that much more. IDJ pushed hard to make #Beautiful a big hit. It had a radio deal, multiple performances, a great director for the MV, the Idol push... and yet it only went as high as #15. I don't think a follow up could've done better than that. Maybe Thirsty or YDKWTD would've peaked higher than You're Mine during summer 2013, but it's not like they were top 5 material. People usually blame #B not becoming a bigger hit on the video. I've read countless times that it "killed the hype". I don't share that view. I think if a song is meant to be a hit it will be a hit regardless of a bad video. And the video wasn't even that bad. It had nice visuals and colours and Mariah looked fire. Sure, it could've been better and had one too many "vanity shots" but it's not like a disaster. Also the album was set to be released on July 27, 2013. Summer releases don't usually sell very good in their first week so it would've been hard as well to make a big opening. Maybe 80k-110k opening. Still much better than MIAM's 54k. And well, maybe it would've had less overprocesed vocals, but it would've been a rushed album anyway.
