Carey wrote Vision Of Love with writing partner Ben Margulies circa December 1988/January 1989 at his small studio in New York while in the midst of procuring a record deal with label Columbia after her demo tape had impressed studio executives. Mariah would note the particularly ecstatic atmosphere at the time of the recording, “I mean, that was a very good time in my life when I wrote that song, when I recorded that song, that was like — I wrote it right after I got, you know, first got signed — I don’t even think I was signed yet, I just first knew I was going to have a record deal and I recorded it in the back of this wood shed when I was still doing demos in this little studio.”
…
Carey would note in a 1991 interview how this experience would shape her next release, “My first album was a lot of experimentation. I was kind of scattered in a way. I had most of the songs when I signed my record deal, but it was so overwhelming for me to go from being in this tiny studio in the back of a woodshed up to working in these incredibly vast, big time studios. It was a big transition and I think that on the next album I’ll have more of a total picture mapped out before I go into the studio — I’ll have everything written and know exactly who’s going to co-produce with me.”
Here—for those sticklers out there
Except only four of the demo songs made it onto the album so 4 out of 11 does not qualify as "most" as it is in fact just over 1/3 of the tracks.
So its clear there are a lot of inconsistencies in her account.

I love how Mariah had to struggle so much in the very beginning which shows just how dedicated she was. Not even a wood shed in which she recorded most of her earliest music. No singing contest, no instant fame... but work and dedication, resilience and pure talent and will.
Most people would haven given up at one point. (And she was only a teenager at that point).
So here she says her demo was written in a studio in manhattan. Interesting.. she's generally claimed it was written in some woodshed.
I get why you'd think that, but I don't think she meant it that way. she said that her brother lived in Manhattan and there he got connections. it wasn't mentioned that she wrote or recorded her demo there too. also, in this interview she said that Ben & her wrote half the songs that went to be on the first album. these are the songs: Vision of love, Someday, Vanishing, All in ur mind, Alone in love & Prisoner = 6 songs and I think all were in the demo. + they also wrote together Love takes time. it was done after the album was already finished but they decided to include it.

Nope. She clearly says that her brother paid for her studio time in Manhattan, that Ben came in and from there they wrote half the songs that appeared on her debut album. She clearly said that the people whom she worked with in Long Island were unprofessional and made her do cheesy material. Theres no ambiguity to what she said in that interview. She literally says all this clearly before the 3 min mark

She was so confident and assured of herself in these earlier interviews. The way she speaks is also one of a confident person very clear of what she wants to do and say.
Awww, the song they “threw away” was Here We Go Around Again, so glad it wasn’t actually trashed!
Also, facts:
In an interview with Fred Bronson, Margulies revealed that their first collaboration, “Here We Go Around Again,” was recorded in the back of his father's cabinetry factory in Chelsea, New York City: "It was this real Motown thing. She wrote all the verses out. We were very excited because she sounded incredible. That was the beginning of the collaborating."[4]
So a shed wasn’t really that much of an exaggeration, just saying!
