Maybe she didn't buy them. Someone here said Mariah's contract specified that her masters would revert to her full ownership after a certain number years. If that's true, then it would make sense for her to wait it out and only pay for what she created when she was with IDJ.

When she says that she owns all of her old masters, I think she means all of them, not just her Sony recordings.

She already co-owns everything with IDJ from Emancipation to MIAM (check out the copyrights at the bottom in iTunes) which is already pretty unheard of. To have it in her contract from the 80s that the Sony masters revert to her would be the ultimate boss move.

I thought the general ‘masters revert to the artist after 35 years’ was still pretty untested. I’d love to know how she pulled this off. I really couldn’t see Sony giving up those rights easily.

Of all the fan bases to be highlighting perceived desperation or attention seeking from another artist.

Nothing wrong with Madonna or her music, especially the early years, but she has always come across as an attention seeker first and foremost.
