She's respectful. She stands for herself and her art. I follow her since her first album. Y'all need to stop talking about her and focus on Mariah. It's Mariah's thread here.
When we are looking at what the critics have to say about some of the pop girls today, you'd really think that they would be doing JonixDylan style of music which is so introspective and deep that only hipsters with moustaches would enjoy it and not the GP.
Over the course of Mariah's career, her music has or had been downvalued especially by RS magazine and the Recording Academy that I often think that it is a miracle that she wasn't dropped after her debut album. Caution is literally the ONLY truly acclaimed album that she has in her repertoire... and I find it ridiculous tbh that it took her 28 years to get remotely where some of the other girls have been from day 1.
I know that other pop girls have no fault in how MC was treated, but sometimes all the old wounds start bleeding again when I see what social media and our current digital age allows them to do and how Mariah's distinctive achievements are buried in some dusty old history books, forgotten and rotting away.
It doesn't help that pop music forums have grown extremely intolerant towards our aging divas and often use them as a punching back for quick laughs and the Swiftie community is more and more engaging in it. I often stand alone defending Mariah - as if her achievements would even warrant any defence, but I cannot not respond to nonsense bc I do not want to let it stand, so that some impressionable teen would think that it is okay to say these derogatory things about other artists.
That is why I found it so incredibly vile what Darlene Love and RS magazine said about Mariah Carey. When the industry incites untruths and slander against someone like Mariah whose achievements one could easily look up on the internet and it keeps standing unchallgenged than these narrative do become reality because they alter it altogether.

What's with all the hyperventilating over AIW's performance when it is clearly doing great and will likely continue to do so for the rest of our lifetimes. Maybe it is actually good for AIW and Mariah if some other artists slip into the top spot every now and again, might make BB less likely to change the rules.
Also, if Spotify is boycotting Mariah they aren't exactly doing a great job, because the track does huge numbers over there.Last edited by WEBofDESIRE; Wed November 23, 2022, 17:49.

I have nothing against her personally... her fans, the Swifties, however, claimed that Mariah's US sales are embarrassing and that Taylor Swift is now on the same level or bigger even than MJ, The Beatles, Elvis etc.
One Swiftie claimed that Mariah's entire career was a fraud and then they also always repeat the Madonna-Fans claim that Mariah was unknown outside the US.
A very toxic bunch of kids.
This is because Mariah definitely does not receive the credit she deserves
She’s an amazing songwriter with blooming musicality and creativity, and a profound sea of vocabulary
Any musician who has worked with her has praised her talent and skills as a songwriter (e.g. Walter Afanasieff, David Foster, Jermaine Dupri, Marc Shaiman, etc.)
The 2 major reasons, I believe, are her vocals and image.
Mariah’s image doesn’t promote her as a songwriter but more of a diva/vocalist. In every Mariah Carey performance, she always has a glamorous entrance, puts on an extravagant ensemble, stands there with her pioneering bedazzled microphone and stand. This presents her as a singer-singer, queen vocalist, songbird supreme etc. This leads people to believe that Mariah is just a great singer, like the other members of the Vocal Trinity. Again, someone like Taylor Swift, who’s usually seen strumming a guitar, is presented as a singer-songwriter, even though her songwriting quality is debatable, she gets the credit.
Rolling Stone magazine, Grammy Awards and most other award-giving bodies don't take her( Mariah's) artistry seriously, and would even rank Amy Winehouse, Adele, Norah Jones, Gaga above her, songwriting wise.
Mariah is a woman of color who makes Pop, R&B , Soul and Hip Hop music. She simply doesn't fit the mold of a white woman with a cowboy hat and a guitar, strumming it on stage through some country or rock cuts at any point of her career.
Her reputation as a vapid diva certainly help her either.
But fact is she has written more #1 hits and also produced more #1 hits than any other female singer-songwriter/producer, including 2 Songs of the Decade and 1 Christmas staple, which not everyone has.
I would not be surprised if Taylor, Beyonce, Amy, Adele, Alanis are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before Mariah. The fact that Eminem is inducted before Mariah can be an indication of how much they don't give her the credit she deserves..
They can not give her the credit she deserves, but they can't take that away from her.

Mariah's artistry has always been downplayed since the start of her career. The talent she possesses and display in all sectors of music is so important and other females with half the talent gets double the praise.
I always believe the love for her fans is so meaningful to mariah even before the book existed, she has shown a genuine connection to her fans that no other singer can match.Proceed with Caution

I understand what are you saying but i don't think it was only Mariah who's received big hate period, same and even hard hate campaigns were the norm back in the days remember Madonna in the 80s or Michael even Janet ... The thing that changed is time and thank God ppl are more aware of that with social media. Mentalities are changing for better most of time.
I got it that swifties are sometimes harsh but only a few ppl who doesn't reflect the fanbase and anyway this has nothing to do with Taylor a talented artist who works as much as Mariah and deserves respect for the energy she's putting in her art. Plus she praised Mariah many times and she's aware of how music industry is done. She's working on changing it for future artists and that very important. She really is a nice girl and there are a lot of ressemblance with Mariah. And Taylor is a big fan of Mariah.
At the end of the day I don't think she's a treat to AIW.
Love them both and I always separate the artist from the fanbase.
I'm sorry I cannot develop my arguments because my English is so bad. Hope you understand the general idea.
And by the way Taylor endured a lot of hate campaigns as well.

It's ok, Mariah is ahead on digital sales, radio, Apple Music (biggest streaming platform in the US) and Amazon Music (biggest platform for Xmas music) so 30k streams on Spotify (which is like 200 SPS units) is not important really
lets not forget YouTube streams
